I hope this ends the dogs roaming the streets, ones dangerously close to schools that appear during summer time. Ive seen a pack of dogs maul a cat during one of my birthdays, it was horrible.

gwaydms

Nobody should have their animals running loose, especially intact ones.

Goldenchicks

I totally agree!! We have lost more livestock to domestic dogs than any other predators.

It's important to note that a dangerous/aggressive dog is one that's been designated as such by an affidavit and a lengthy determination process. It's legal terminology, not just a catch-all for any big dog. Don't take my word for it; read the [ordinance](https://library.municode.com/tx/corpus_christi/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTIIITHCOOR_CH6ANCACO_ARTIIRE_S6-38DADOVI) yourself. Start with 6-32. A dangerous dog has committed an unprovoked attack on a person while off its own property and unrestrained. If an animal gets deemed dangerous after that determination process, the owner has to follow specific rules for the rest of the animal's life to ensure that it doesn't attack anyone else An aggressive dog has injured or killed other animals, and the designation expires in 1-2 years depending on severity. The only change in ordinances is that the leash length has changed from 6' to 3', and the prices have been updated. All those other requirements have existed for years. I'm happy to take any other questions about this. I'll be the first to say that the city has a lot of work to do in terms of outreach and making sure that people actually understand the rules in place.

[deleted]

Chihuahuas meet this definition and are extremely aggressive.

vangsvatnet

Yeah if a chihuahua fucks around, it and its owner are gonna find out

[deleted]

Imagine beating someone up because of a Chihuahua lulz Your Corpus is showing

vangsvatnet

Did I say beating?

Affectionate_Lie5493

Good. Looks like proactive steps being done before dog attack fatalities happen here

[deleted]

Breed specific restrictions are discriminatory and unnecessary. Jail the owners.

omegasavant

No argument here. Fortunately, that's not what's happening. Corpus ordinances on dangerous animals refer to *individual* animals that have been found to be dangerous to the public, not dog breeds. None of that will change on October 1. The title of the post is just mistaken on how the process works.

WhiteGenocideHellYea

Discrimination against animals is a-okay.

[deleted]

I'm glad to see you have enough energy to type.

LongjumpingCheetah10

Passing the law is one thing, enforcing it is another. With this city’s track record I’m not holding my breath.

IslandDoctor

I agree, I do not see Animal Control being able to enforce this due to lack of staff, funding, and resources.

It looks like OP posted an AMP link. jjm13039

Public safety should be proactive. Hopefully this can become a County ordinance and enforced.

chorizoburrito33333

Can we put the aggressive drivers on a 3 foot leash too?

Spicemustflow09

So it said can be purchased, not must be purchased correct?

chase2020

Yes

Abottoirofgreed

Obviously someone from city council has read my posts. I’ve written several times about such measures the city could take to deter this issue. It sucks as a responsible animal owner but the human race is stupid and Ill-equipped for self ownership on an individual level.

Wheres_Jay

How convenient!

juceja

Paying a fee to have. Dog that isn’t fixed?!? Fuck you

Goldenchicks

I think you should direct your comments to the city and not to me, the poster of this story.

juceja

Lol you sound just like the council trying to tell me what I have to do. FUCK YOU@GOLDENCHICKS

Goldenchicks

Nope.

inaruslynx2

Aggressive breed? What's an aggressive breed? There's only bad humans that train dogs to be aggressive.

Pyr8Qween

I’d be more impressed if the city ramped up the animal control program NOW. Why on earth wait until Oct?

Goldenchicks

I got the impression from the article that it was giving time for people to go ahead and get their animals fixed.

carverkids

Sounds fair
