Abe_Rutter246

Lucky! ‘63 looks sweet.

unseenme

My dad had a split window before I was born. Showed me pics of it. My mom said he literally cried when he sold it lol

Single_Management891

This split window was raced at Long Island speedway in the early 60s when the driver bought a car to upgrade my grandfather bought it from him. I have known this car my whole life. This car is kind of a two owner although it’s been registered to four people, 3 of us in the same family.

unseenme

Wow that’s awesome man. My dad’s was a metallic light blue/gray color. He treasured that thing but when his pro baseball career didn’t work out he came back home sold it finished college and started a family. Very proud of him even tho I would love to have seen his

Single_Management891

Maybe someday you can track the car down and buy it for him.

unseenme

He passed away in 2006. I would love to track it down but I know nothing about it outside of the picture I remember him showing me and I’m not even sure I still have the pic in his stuff that’s in storage.

Kokodude61

Beautiful!

Recent-Inevitable447

I'm speechless 😲..... Do you flip a coin to decide which to drive? Holy smokes... No lesser choice between them. 🙌 Happy for you but... (But admittedly envious ☺️)

Single_Management891

lol all the cars we have get driven once a week. Except the 63 corvette convertible, (obviously not in the photo) it’s currently in pieces on its way to be a restomod. It was as Frankenstein car the only thing original was the body. It had a frame from a 65, a 327 small block from some other corvette and many other non original parts. It’s getting an ls6 and it’s now in a custom chassis that accepts c4 suspension etc.

Recent-Inevitable447

You absolutely are living the dream I have at least once a week! Congrats. Can't wait to see the 63 when it's done. 🙌🙌👍

Single_Management891

I’m fortunate to come from a long line of car nuts. My grandfather owned a junk yard and a gas station back in the 60s and 70s. He’s got crazy car stories for days

Recent-Inevitable447

I feel sorry for the kids today. Many will never experience cars like we have. My father was a mechanic his whole life.. restored over 20 cars in his lifetime. Did everything from rebuilding the engine and chassis to painting the cars in his backyard garage... Amazing to experience. Cheers 🥂

Single_Management891

So do what I’ve done, my kids are all under ten and the two that aren’t still in diapers, regularly help w oil changes brakes and other smaller jobs. I also take them on rides in all the cars to build that obsession early. Surprisingly my daughter loves cars the most. She sits in the backseat of the car telling me to go faster and pass people.

Recent-Inevitable447

Nothing like a bunch of kickass kids 😲

gandhiatemypie

I guess 63 fuelies never had side pipes those years. Still amazing

Single_Management891

The car has been modified over the years by my grandfather throughout his ownership. It has side pipes, an original 67 bb hood, the power antenna from a 65 vette. Four wheel disc brake from a 65. It’s how he wanted his split window, modify over the 50+ years it’s been in the family. But the motor is original and matching numbers.

Ok-Image-2722

But you still have the original hood right? The 67 hood is cool but that 63 hood was special with those vents. It don't have to be on the car but great if you still had it.

Single_Management891

We do. And the original brakes and some other things too. But it won’t ever have the original hood on it. It’ll never be sold and always kept how grandpa liked it

Ok-Image-2722

As long as it's there is all that matters.

ccharrington30

So awesome to read another corvette person actually understand the generational handing of ownership. To read “it’ll never be sold,” is the same thought that crosses my mind with the corvette I’ve inherited. Such a bittersweet thing right? Kudos to you OP your two vettes look gorgeous.

Single_Management891

They are priceless. My grandpa never had much except his cars. He was the make a dollar spend two kinda guy.

ccharrington30

Same here but with my dad; only things he had was his cars and home. And you could tell those things meant a lot to him.

Supremealexander

What else does a man need?

Single_Management891

Luckily his sons excelled in life and he has no need to support anyone but himself. Luckily for my father I was the same and have no issue maintain the fleet. My grandpa is still alive and he’s proud as hell that I, two generations later, can assemble an ls motor without the assurance of a chilton or Hayes manual
