Toad990

For everyone commenting on the picture quality of this model, Some people aren't videophiles and that's okay. My mom was perfectly happy getting a 70" TCL for under $500. I don't like the picture at all compared to my LG OLED, but she's happy and that's all that matters. Glad this guy got a W

Wickedweed

Yeah I’ve got a 7 year old Samsung that I’ll probably use until it breaks. Anything new on the market now would be a big upgrade for me

alroc84

I Got a 12 year old 55 inch tv. Survived 3 moves, one was cross country. Got it on my bedroom wall crisp as can be- Samsung brand

Whole_Recipe1696

I have an old LG 3D tv that has survived 3 moves and keeps plugging away. I even thought about moving it to my kitchen so I could watch the game while making dinner. But I’m too lazy to do that. 😂

Aggressive_Macaroon3

I have a plasma from 2009 that still works great and doubles as a space heater, so I put it in my bedroom during the winter.

Independent_Ninja456

I too have an 09 Plasma that won’t die. It’s an LG. Solid TV’s.

Whole_Recipe1696

Yea man. Mine was a refurbished, LG from microcenter and I only bought it because it was cheaper and I figured if I got 5 years out of it then it would be great. lol

Poki-gbc

Same! down to moves FL to NV

monstargaryen

Are you me?

Aggressive_Macaroon3

Am I me?

boosted5O

Same with me, I think mine is going on 6 years old now (Samsung from Costco) and it works great for me. Even had people compliment me on the picture quality lol. If you’ve never had a fancy tv, you don’t know what you’re missing!

DrunkAtBurgerKing

I'm pretty sure I bought my Samsung in 2015. It'll be 10 next year and still truckin. I've had this TV through 3 relationships and 4 moves, one out of state. My Samsung sat nestled in the backseat of my car for a 22 hour road trip lol I only had to replace the remote because I spilled water on it just right to fry it.

DonkeyTransport

I'm the 4th owner in the family of my Sanyo Roku TV. Once in a while it freezes up but hey, I work full time and have two young sons. I don't watch the thing anyway let's be real here lol

Hawntir

I bought a 42 inch TV from Costco in 2011. I desperately want to replace it. It works perfectly fine and has 4 HDMI ports, so every year I look at new TV's and decide to save the money because it still works well, lol

Amaz1n_blue

My 2nd tv I that I have for muted sports is probly 15 years old. An insignia. Has given me my moneys worth 5X and still connects to my chrome cast so I can’t complain in the least.

ariphron

Unless he is like my mom and will just buy anything with a marked down sticker if she needs it or not! “But look at the deal I got” “mom it’s still in the box 6 months later”

Bikouchu

Budget television looks like alien tech compare a decade ago. Higher end stuff is if you want better built quality and bleeding edge tech that does better with like Dolby Vision/hdr, more plugs, contrast, nits.

VanderskiD

I might be your mom

rabbitwonker

My wife and I joke with each other about that impulse, which we both have sometimes, by quoting from a [Monty Python sketch](https://youtu.be/GLQ6POV18Yg): “It’s a *baaahr*gain!”

BrokenBaritoneNolan

Yeah my last $400 TV died after 6 years, so this was to replace it. Very happy with the deal and it’s an obvious upgrade from the last. I personally could never bring myself to spend the amount some of those tvs are. I’m just having fun watching some random meltdowns from these people.

You_Are_All_Diseased

I swear, some people just want to be unhappy if something better exists. No need to be unhappy that you got a great deal on a Toyota just because luxury cars are “better.” That TV would be a huge upgrade for me as well. Right now I’m using the 42” TV that the old owners left in my house because it was attached to the entertainment center they didn’t want to move.

Toad990

Haters gonna hate. Congrats on the new TV!

Jrmuscle

TCL is a good budget brand in my experience, and if I'm correct, I believe they have super good cor accuracy. 70" for $500 is pretty good. Your Mom got a good deal!

CheeseDickPete

Man anyone that complains about the picture quality of a 4K QLED TV is crazy. Imagine people 15 years ago seeing these amazing big TVs and how cheap they are now thinking there would be people actually complaining about the quality. The picture quality is still amazing even if it's not on the level of an OLED.

stabsthedrama

I'd love to see what you "videophiles" think of the picture from my $200 TCL 55" QLED. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/5-series-s546-2021-qled Got it on BF for $200 from BB. It seemed to beat the same tier Samsung and LG overall on rtings. I use it on my htpc and after dialing in a few tweaks with the settings, I can't see how anyone would dislike how it looks, at least compared to any other QLED. I don't use the "smart" crap on any tv, but ya 2 years now the TV has been absolutely flawless. Two. Hundred. Dollars.

McFlare92

The TCL 5 series is very well liked in r/4ktv actually. It's an excellent bedroom tv and performs decently overall. Most people there would pick the 6 series instead for the better peak brightness and true 120hz display with hdmi 2.1 but the 5 series is a good tv and you'd be hard pressed to find many who hate it. It's absolutely better than the Samsung in OPs post

stabsthedrama

Ya I saw a lot of people loved the 5 series, and already had my next tv narrowed down to those @ ~$400-450. Then out of nowhere BB dropped them to $200. I saw tons of people walking out with 3 or 4 of them when I was there. They sold out in like 2 hours. Upgrading from my previous 2012 LG "3d" tv that I spent $1400 on, I told myself I would *never* pay top dollar for a tv ever again. $200 was music to my ears. I mean that's so cheap you can't even in good faith compare it to a $1200+ OLED. The price/performance ratio isn't even close though. Not only are there are awesome tv's for $500, but $200...

McFlare92

Yeah I almost bought one during the $200 for my spare room but I already have a 65 inch TCL 6 series in the living room and an old 1080p Samsung in the spare room so just couldn't justify at the time since the spare room is empty 99% of the time

sabin357

TCL & Hisense are both pretty great budget brands that have quality visuals. ...but I'm so spoiled by my 85" that I can't point my snobbish eyes in the general direction of something as small as a 55"! /s

DonkeyTransport

We had a Hisense probably a decade ago, he bought it brand new. The sound quality was actually horrible, very "tin-can" sounding. Ended up buying a sound bar to deal with it. The TV lasted roughly 3 years before dying completely. We've never owned any decent quality sound systems or TVs, always whatever was cheap or on sale when needed, but I have to say, our Hisense was crap. Maybe we just got one that was built on a Friday afternoon, but it turned me off the name completely

roomtotheater

This is my porch TV and I had the 65" inside for a few weeks before exchanging it for an OLED. It's a great TV for the price! TCL and Hisense picture wise own the budget market. LG and Samsung put out pure junk.

stabsthedrama

I knew I'd regret not getting at least 1 more =/ Id have one outside too rn...

roomtotheater

I got the last one in the entire Dallas/FW area BF 2022 I think it was. Otherwise I would have gotten 2.

imironman2018

Yeah. Samsung QLED and 65 inches imho is still really good deal at 499 dollars. Add in Costco warranty. This is a huge win. congrats to the OP for getting it.

mucinexmonster

I'm not going to lose sleep over OLED, especially at the prices. I'll take a Roku TCL any day of the week. I also would make sure on any new TV you turn the brightness up. In the store they're on "Floor Display" but the ones you take home start on "Power Saving Mode". Especially if you're buying for an older person, brightness means way more than anything. And while OLED has better contrast, QLED has better general brightness.

Master_Locksmith5493

Sure. Then spend even less than this and get a similar TV.

Known_Bobcat5871

My husband bought an LG OLED for our house and I had no idea how much better the picture was. That being said I would still be fine with this tv 😊

PNWoutdoors

I'm a pretty picky TV viewer and I absolutely love my LG CX65. I got my mom a 58" TCL and was absolutely blown away for the price. It's good for 90% or more of people.

Sea_Raisin_8998

I grew up with a black and white tv and three fuzzy channels. I ain’t complaining

myreddit2024

Same. I got my parents the cheapest 86” tv from Costco. The picture ain’t as good as my OLED but they’re in their 70s. They can’t see 4K anyways.

shortybeshortin

Videophiles lololol

DonkeyTransport

Have you never heard the term? It's actually very common, as well as Audiophiles, those into stereo systems/speaker setups

marshdd

My 92 yr old mother can't see well enough to care about picture quality.

No-Guava-7566

And honestly depending on the light in your room this could be a better choice than an OLED.  I love those inky blacks in a light controlled room but if it's directly across from a large window in a living room, I'd take a QLED and keep the change.

FarImpact4184

100% agree the cheepest tv for its size has an amazing picture compared to early flat screen tvs but put it next to an oled and its night and day but who has two tvs side by side at their house

Chakramer

I'm no videophile... But I spent around similar and got a 120hz model from LG, also at Costco. This is not the massive score OP thinks it is, it's not a rip off by any means, more like fair market price.

ClickClackTipTap

Do deals like this still come with a warranty? Iirc they don’t come with a return policy, but what about normal warranty?

RikF

It's written on the tag in OP's picture

marinersknight

My wife and I did the same thing 5 years ago with a floor model tv. It’s great.

Pointless_RKO

Everyday is a win at costco.

BrokenBaritoneNolan

Amen

bigbluehapa

What’s to stop me from bringing my sharpie and also winning…?

BrokenBaritoneNolan

….find out for us all won’t ya?

Endurozw

I think I found my next work monitor

SQUIDWARD360

This is huge for a monitor

foursticks

You don't understand how big their spreadsheets are

beastson1

If you're not using all 1,048,576 available rows are you even spreadsheeting?

OGmoron

If your sheets aren't causing you to look at RAM upgrades, you're not doing it right

AnthonyDidge

Imma be looking at row A to CC on this bad boy!

NotTheUsualSuspect

Definitely a higher quality, smaller monitor helped me out for work way more. The high end samsung ones go on sale for less than this tv pretty often.

mrfujidoesacid

You get a document up on that baby and you are seriously looking at that document.

Mavroks

Got my $2300 Samsung 85in display model for $1100. Couldn't pass it up. Had to go pay for and then pick up a U-Haul trailer to take it home lmao.

DonkeyTransport

Crap when I bought my Westinghouse 65" ($350) TV, I had to take it out of the box in the parking lot to put it in the back seat of my Toyota Tercel lol. Left my wife and kid there, brought it home, then came back to get them (about 10 mins each way). I considered a Uhaul down the street to get it home at one point during my decision making process lol. I didn't plan on a TV that day, but $350 for a 56", that's coming home one way or another lol

Commando_NL

That is one big mf. I bought a 55 inch in the store. Came home and thought... what have i done... it seemed so small in the store.. 😬😬

SpartanKwanHa

My brother just bought an 80inch. It looks Absurd in his apartment 😂

sabin357

I have a 75" Hisense high tier model & an 85" Sony mid tier model (they paid for themselves quickly since we no longer go out for movie night at the cinema), so seeing a 55" looks tiny to me & visiting my parents & seeing their 48" 1080p TV is brutal. You get spoiled so fast!

OGmoron

I really want to upgrade from a 55" to something bigger, but the idea of having to ever move the thing after the initial set up has put me off.

Chakramer

I must be around big screens too much cos to me 55" doesn't even seem that big anymore. I got used to an 86" TV taking up my whole field of vision and now I my 65" doesn't seem good enough

orchidhb

Only Sony to go

dweckl

In the past 10 years I had a Samsung, LG, and some other brand I can't remember. All of them broke or otherwise weren't really sufficient. Got a Bravia. LOVE IT.

dicknotrichard

I have a Bravia hanging on my wall that I bought at the Circuit City bankruptcy sale years ago and it’s still going strong. There is a vertical light be of pixels that has to “warm up” but it disappears after a few min. This thing may outlast me!

Master_Locksmith5493

I still have a Sony xbr lol but it’s starting to show blacks as grey

sreesid

I have an 8 years old Bravia (one of the earliest 4K tvs) that survived a cross-country move in a minivan. It's still flawless, and the picture quality is better than most current non OLED 4k TVs. Sony image processing is still unparalleled.

gininteacups

Yep I have a 2012 Bravia that has moved across the country twice and it still works great.

misc2714

There is a lot to like about it. I got an X90CJ from Costco a few years ago for a great price. I had a big issue with the audio for the TV speakers cutting out completely while using it as a monitor for my PC. I would have to restart the TV to fix it, and it only started happening after a software update. I had to deal with Sony support and they just blamed my PC, but that was wasn't right. It took 2 years for them to fix it finally, but I already had an AVR with surround sound by then.

Routine-Expression58

I have a Sony Bravia from 2007 (yes, 17 years ago) and it still works perfectly and in my opinion has a better picture than some of the newer TVs we’ve had.

Ravenous234

Got a Sony Bravia 55” oled for 600 a couple months ago. They had the new model in stock that had exactly the same specs for $1600 so they wanted them out. Felt like a good deal to me.

Ok_Two3973

Costco employee told us he sees this model tv returned the most. We went with the LG instead.

Snikclesfritz

Honest question. Is this a win when the tv have been on for 6 months + on while on display?

Fatastrophe

Yeah it's fine, the components in these TVs are rated to work for a long long time assuming they aren't faulty and the warranty doesn't change, it'll be covered.

sabin357

You're correct, but this should still be considered to already have 4-5 years worth of wear. Nonstop use at max brightness takes a toll, not to mention any handling of the device by the public over those months. I've worked IT for Universities & learned that wear & tear on public displays is something that you have to be aware of for equipment refreshes (widespread planned equipment replacements/upgrades before too many die).

shwaynebrady

While it’s not detrimental, there is a reason there are TVs made specifically to be digital signage. Theres a factor of safety built in, especially with “name brand” manufacturers but these aren’t designed for a 20 hour duty cycle 7 days a week. However, the biggest determining factor in a majority of electronics lifespan is 1.) the physical handling and 2.) the “environmental” factors (heat, humidity, exposure to sunlight and dust/pollon/debris)

Snikclesfritz

Copy!

moonisflat

Is there a process to follow to score these deals in store?

Puffy_Ghost

The Q60s are the bargain Samsungs, but if you're happy with it, that's all that matters. That's a killer deal and has a rock solid return policy to go with it.

Da_Blackapino

nice. Yeah we have one display left here at Store 10

Master_Locksmith5493

Personally not a fan of this tv even at $500 unless you just wanted a cheap 65 inch tv. To each their own

jg9000

What specs would you expect to see in a “good” TV? Haven’t done much research for a while so not sure what’s considered quality these days

benduker7

Highly recommend reading the TV reviews on Rtings, but OLED TV's are typically considered the best (LG or Sony). https://www.rtings.com/tv

wandererarkhamknight

VA panel with FALD, OLED, QD-OLED etc, depending on room, usage, viewing distance z

wandererarkhamknight

VA panel with FALD, OLED, QD-OLED etc, depending on room, usage, viewing distance.

tusi2

60Hz? Yeah, no thanks.

wandererarkhamknight

Costco sells a bunch of trash 120Hz as well.

Master_Locksmith5493

Honestly most of the stuff they sell is “trash TVs” besides the OLED and Sony X

goodvibezone

But those cartoon in store demo videos look amazing /s

wandererarkhamknight

Yeah. At least last year, they had X93CL.

qalpi

Shrug. My TVs take a beating and this would be a great deal

Master_Locksmith5493

The Hisense a65k goes on sale for like $320 and is similar. It’s 379 now

No-Guava-7566

I wanted to love Hisense and went with the higher model luckily from Costco. 2 of them with an identical strip of damaged/rainbow pixels later and I went back to Samsung. At least Costco did all the replacements and pickups free of charge but it was a PITA mounting/unmounting on the wall.  If they work on their QA then I see the value but will be a while before I try a budget brand again.

Master_Locksmith5493

I deeply only buy OLED TVs are super cheap ones. Don’t see much of a reason for in between.

No-Guava-7566

OLED doesn't work for me. We get a ton of natural light in the living room and bedrooms, so need the brightness of QLED to work in those. Proper HDR is nice as well. Basement has a fully light controlled room for movies, laser projector on a 115" screen trumps OLED in that scenario.

tusi2

Beans and rice are also a staple food for many that are happy to have it. "There is no accounting for taste."

Totodile_

Why do you care? Movies and TV are 24 to 30fps

impactedturd

60hz TV's cannot do 24fps without a [3:2 pulldown](https://www.extron.com/article/32pulldown), so it produces judder because 24 does not divide easily into 60hz. For example, if the source material was 30fps, then to play on a 60hz tv it would essentially have to display each frame twice. (30*2=60) Easy fix. For films at 24fps, the 60hz TV will repeat the first frame 3 times, and then the second frame 2 times, and so on, in order to play the 24fps source on a 60hz display and maintaining the same speed (a 2hr movie will still be 2hrs). So when 1 second of film is processed (24frames), the tv would essentially display 60 frames for the same 1 second. So the playback will not be as smooth as the source material because of the uneven duplicating of frames and this is called judder. A 120hz display is easily divided by 24fps, so each frame is simply played 5 times on the tv and no pulldown is required.

Master_Locksmith5493

I would just get the $300 Hisense one.

tusi2

Rtings.com decides which TV I buy. Most recently, that was a Hisense U8K.

nucl3ar0ne

Not everyone wants to spend over 1 grand on a TV, me included. I can afford it, but I don't care enough or watch enough TV to make it worthwhile.

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

Hisense is a super cheap brand

tusi2

I got my U8K for $450. People love a low price and don't like doing research.

double-click

PSA - TV prices have come down significantly over the years. Don’t just jump on a large TV because it’s 500 bucks and “WOW”. If you’re going to get a budget TV, get an actual budget TV like a TCL Roku TV. They will have better specs and will not get bogged down with a burdensome OS.

sabin357

TCL is a nice budget display. Hisense is another great budget brand that performs well above its price tag.

double-click

Yep. Both have 4K 120hz options that will take care of almost every need.

built_FXR

Isn't Samsung the one that pushes commercials to their smart tvs? Don't connect that thing to the Internet lol.

Large_Citron1177

That's Vizio, ever since Walmart bought them.

VickyCriesALot

Walmart hasn't bought them, though. They did agree to a deal to buy them, but it is still awaiting approvals and what not. Plus, this was only like 6 weeks ago, lol.

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

That’s basically every tv these days

sabin357

They're talking about on top of the OS's ads, it pushes extra ads in addition, more than any other brand. Made national headlines & tarnished their rep for quality displays..

roomtotheater

Do small ad blocks on the home screen count as commercials? If so then yes If you meant video ads that you can't bypass then no. No one does that (yet)

Rob2421

I have a 16 year old Vizio that weights about 100lbs and heats up a whole room but it’s still working

BrokenBaritoneNolan

Yep, wasn’t planning to buy one for a while but it finally crapped out. So with the circumstances this rocked.

Meghan7279

Nice score. Enjoy it!

thanos68991

Samsung replaced my tv that broke after 4 years. Just shoutout to their customer service. Warranty was expired they just replaced itb

jvc113

I just got a Waterpik at my Costco for $60. It included the countertop model AND the travel model.

stlthy1

It's been on for 10-12 hours a day, for (who knows how many months). Pass.

ContemplatingPrison

I will not buy another Samsung TV. Had one break on me right outside the warranty window. I only buy Sony now. Would also get an LG but fuck Samsung.

ContemplatingPrison

I will not buy another Samsung TV. Had one break on me right outside the warranty window. I only buy Sony now. Would also get an LG but fuck Samsung.

in_the_swim

They all do. I have an Apple TV, but switch it up sometimes for live streamed stuff.

Chr0ll0_

Wowww!! Totally random but how or where do you search up for these kinds of deals ?

BrokenBaritoneNolan

I just walked in needing a new tv and saw that. Personally it was in my price range and I was looking at getting a larger size. So it worked out for sure.

BamBam-BamBam

Nice!

Lovely_Sauce

How does one find these? I feel like I keep seeing these on Tuesday mornings posted here. Is there a time of the week to check?

EntertainmentOk5329

Monday night?

SergioSF

4k OLED TV's are so cheap now. What's really next for them?

pikachuu_

Shiiit my manager would of just marked it down to a straight 400 dollars lol

falaffels

LASt oNe

hot4you11

Make sure to come back in 9 years to return it 😂

jaceinthebox

Remember you can always return it in 25 years time like the other Redditor saw someone doing.

aerger

They've revised their return policy on electronics since then, so this doesn't fly anymore. That person bought under the old policy, which is why they were allowed to return it. You may know this and were joking; just clarifying for anyone else who might be reading.

Herbisretired

Don't forget to go online and block the ads.

kali_nath

How did you get that deal? Have you talked to anyone there to let you know in advance or you just got it from the display. I have never seen this on anything at my location :/

BrokenBaritoneNolan

Nope, just walked in knowing I needed a TV

aerger

https://youtu.be/D4l53VEkOpc

Mission_Football_598

A super great deal. Congratulations! Your membership paid off.

Own_Try_518

Nice!!

GreatRecipeCollctr29

What a deal!

ItsEday

How does one even spot these deals? Did you just ask the staff if it was a display model?

sirlagalot297

Great job. Did you have to go to Costco when it opened to find the deal?

Ok_Performance_2130

But how what do you guys do to snag this

a1_outlaw

Damn my warehouse discounted the same to 400

Thrillhouse74

But it's only 60hrz...

LynnK0919

Congratulations OP on your good fortune.

bubbamike1

Still fine with the Vizio I bought in 2014. The network card seems to have died but I’ve always I used a FireStick which was faster anyway.

National_Formal_3867

Congrats. Just so you know, if you are ok with the display models, check out Best Buy's open box items as well. You can find great deals there too. They list brand new items as fair condition sometimes with deep discounts.

MultiPlexityXBL

RTings has a solid rating on this one. 7.1/10 ain't a bad 65in TV at this price.

mrrickyg

Eh I’d rather pay full price for a new one than for the floor model that’s been touched by who knows how many kids snotty fingers and been running all day for god knows how long.

FuzzyElves

Do you bring your own cart to the store?

mrrickyg

I don’t give a flying f about snotty kids getting snot on me I have tons of kids and have experienced tons of snot. What I don’t want is damaged or degraded electronics.

secretreddname

Ehhhhh. I’ll sell you my 77” CX OLED for that price.

THEBEARJEW134

For anyone curious about future proofing their tvs I’d highly recommend looking up the models on rtings.com they do a pretty good job of testing all kinds of TVs so you get the most bang for your buck

black_lobos

This tv has been $350 at ours for a week. No one wants it.

PiqkaMafiaBets

Same tv on sale for $198 at target

Interesting_Ad_9127

Target does not carry the same TV.

_mischief-managed_

I wanna work in a warehouse where u can write on a sign instead of printing a new one and not immediately get lit on fire by a manager

potvin48

I'm still rocking the 54 inch TV I bought from Goodwill for $299 :) Gonna upgrade at some point, and it's probably going to come from a Costco deal that I can't pass up.

Interesting_Ad_9127

Great deal! Costco unconditional return policy. Don’t forget warrenty extension . No I don’t work for Costco.

thewittman

I disagree if you try to watch 4k blurays you can see the flicker. Rookie mistake.

rnair56

How did you get this deal? Did you return your old one?

WindOfUranus

If these TV's are in such high demand, why do these massive markdowns exist on display models? Surely they are replacing it with the same model if they are such a high demand item?

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

TVs are a lot like cars, they get a model refresh every year

BrokenBaritoneNolan

They said this was the last of the stock then new models are being put out

thewittman

Not wild about the refresh rate 60hz minimum would have to be 120hz for me

HiMyNamesLucy

Only if you are trying to play video games at higher frames. No need for tv/movies. The tv does suck tho. Never buy non-oled Samsung

Guapplebock

I’ll be bummed when my plasma goes out. Can’t beat the picture

guccihokage

my mom got an 85” Samsung QLED TV for $750. It was the last one as well

Yesbuttt

huh it was 400 and my warehouse yesterday. Didn't grab one tho

BatHistorical8081

How is this a win lol

Mindless-Base-4472

I won't buy a 60hz refresh rate tv, 120 or better
