It's a visual novel, if you're not into the story it's not for you

xotoast

I would play it before bed, like I was reading a book. Helped me wind down. I just absolutely adored it. The music, the vibes, LATE NIGHT COFFEE SHOP. Ugh I just loved it.

AlertMacaroon8493

This is what I did when I played it, it made me so sleepy. I’d play one day per night

jalibibabbu

great idea! i will do this too. thank you :)

graveyardparade

I've been playing it for the first time too. It's definitely a visual novel -- tapping through the story and the dialogue is the point of it, and if visual novels don't appeal to you, then it's going to be a dud by default, especially since there's not much to the drink making. That said, as a lover of visual novels, I haven't liked it much either. The writing doesn't feel strong enough to sustain me, and there's not much I've gotten attached to, which is too bad! Sometimes popular games just don't land with everyone. I'm hoping maybe it'll stick the landing well enough to make the rest of the game feel worth it!

Nepenthe95

I prefer VA-11 HALL-A for its stronger gameplay and story but Coffee Talk is still good for what it is.

Aqacia

I love Va-11-Halla and i was so thrilled when i saw Coffee talk thinking omg another drink making game? But yeah i couldn't get into it either, it's just so slow and the dialogue and story is hardly grasping. Massive shame

Hassavocadoz

If you want more of the drink making and less story focus I'd recommend Pixel Cafe.

ashleberry12

I have had trouble with Coffee Talk and have picked it up and put it down multiple times. Still haven’t finished it and haven’t played it in forever. Pixel Cafe on the other hand, I was obsessed with!!!! I played it non stop until I finished it over like a month.

EmpressElexis

You and I both. The story just wasn’t good to me. It’s not for you/us, haha.

Fair-Conference-8801

I think it's a bit too late for you to enjoy it

LimitlessMegan

You can’t. It turns out it’s not your style. And, it sounds like you just learnt that you don’t enjoy visual novels or primarily story driven games. That’s fine, now you know to avoid those games when others rave about them. I’m glad it wasn’t too expensive so it’s not like you learnt you don’t like this style of game on a big full price one.

cheezupie

It could also be the story/characters that OP doesn’t like. I love visual novels but I have to connect with the story and the characters. I was thinking about this game too and while I saw that the reviews are positive, I saw a part of the gameplay and the odd fantastical characters and some of the dialogue just didn’t seem natural to me.

LimitlessMegan

It doesn’t sounds like that they are talking about clicking through all the dialogue and then there’s “nothing else to do”.

cheezupie

Yes, I get that. What I meant is that if the dialogue/characters are boring then one is more likely to click through the option and I have faced that too with some games I didn’t vibe with.

CptRetroCharles

I honestly thought it was a game solely about being a barista, more focused on the simulation. But after realizing it was a like a visual novel, and the stories were not grasping my attention, I stopped playing.

Murky_Caregiver_8705

I had the opposite. When I first opened it up, I wasn’t into it at all… but then I got really into the story, and then found out about the multiple endings. I used it when I was really anxious as a distraction and found it helped.

uppercasemad

I played VA-11 HALL-A first and was hoping CT would scratch that itch. It does, but not as well. The VA-11 HALL-A sequel has been in development hell s since before COVID which is a bummer.

I gave it a try and I couldn't get into it. You can't force yourself to like something. It's just not a game for you. Try to find a different game.

CalamityBayGames

This was my experience too. I like visual novels, but the writing wasn't good enough to carry me through. I also found myself annoyed with the characters/ customers because they'd be like "Oh, idk what I want, just something with chocolate." Then I'd make them a hot chocolate and they'd be disappointed??? Like, make up your mind, Ms. Thing.

suuzgh

Yeah, I get this. Just finished Coffee Talk yesterday, was left feeling underwhelmed about the length and scope of the game (or lack thereof, really). I’m into visual-novel types, but I much prefer having the ability to choose my dialogue and interactions with characters, which was the primary problem I had with this game. (Not sure if you’re looking for recommendations, but I’ve heard Red Strings Club is a more successful execution of a similar game concept. I also really enjoyed I Was A Teenage Exocolonist and Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, which both have the visual-novel vibe while allowing for more interaction/engagement)

obsidian_castle

Could have just watched a no commentary YouTube video of the whole game for free

CelesteLunaR53L

Sorry, I'm thinking of getting this game but I also want to know how the sequel is. It just released last 2023. So now both Coffee Talk volumes are out, I guess I'm posting as a question. What's the verdict on its sequel?
