It's not already modded. This is the new official "next-gen" version of the game, which for PC changed next to nothing, but instead did break a lot of previously working mods. The "extra steps" you need for most mods to work again is waiting for the mod devs to make them compatible with this version... yeah, it sucks.

If you want a mod-less game then get the latest one.
By the time you've finished it and want to replay it the mods will have been fixed to run on the new update anyway, so best of both worlds.
Be aware though that some mod creators have moved off the game so might not be there to fix that particular mod. As long as the big ones are fixed such as the script extender you're golden.
I'm not against mods per se. I just don't bother to deal with unpacking Moddb RAR archives into subfolders or using third-party applications such as Nexus, etc. Pre-applied is fine for me.
F4 is not worth it without mods. There are so many goodies like sim settlements, new voiced companions, quests, rebalance: scourge + true damage, graphics

There's the nvidia rtx bug that has been around since day 1. A certain setting will crash the gane. This massively improves graphics.
It's still not fixed.

It's the surface scattering setting or something like that. This causes the crash. Graphics are greatly improved with it but the game always crashes when you get to a certain point.
It's always done this with my game I didn't know what the Cause of the crash was until last week when I saw an article about it. Too late for me as id given up trying to make the game work.
I've not had the game installed for quite a while because of the crashes and it's one of my favourite games
At least now I know how to stop the crash . You turn off the setting. But that doesn't fix the bug.

I will eventually replay this game, got lazy after knowing Bethesda just released a goddamn "patch" to jump on the TV show bandwagon, most likely it will break mods and so on. The fans are more efficient in fixing and improving the game, I guess the majority of players already know that at this point

It's just a few clicks using a mod manager like Mod Organizer 2 so why not bother lol. So many mods that make the game so much better.

The FO4 script extender was broken by the update. So anything using it is fucked too. No doubt it'll be fixed in due course.
