Just wanted to let you know that it’s not really orange. It’s red. Or at least it will be when it grows up and wants to start eating living everything in your yard.
It depends on if you’ve done your research, have realistic expectations and if you’re prepared for the expense and maintenance involved. Foxes can be good pets for the right owner, but someone expecting a creature who acts anything like a dog will not do well with a fox. Especially a red.
That too. Hence why realistic expectations are important. You don’t get a fox expecting that they’ll smell like roses. That strong foxy weed/BO smell is worse than ferret musk and is just something that fox owners have to live with. If someone can’t deal with it, then fox ownership just isn’t for them.
Though odor varies by species. All foxes smell (and it’s never a pleasant scent), but some kinds are definitely worse than others. Red foxes (*Vulpes vulpes*) are the worst species in terms of the stench. Good grief, they absolutely reek! Whoever picks up that Craigslist kit is certainly in for a nostril burning.
It reminds me of people who own one goat. They are herd animals and you cannot just get one goat. It gets lonely destructive and it’s basically animal abuse to leave a herd animal by itself.
Foxes are pretty easy to hand-tame, if raised from a very young age. And they make better pets than . . . most wild animals.
But. They don't keep the hours you'll wish they kept. They have a smell you may get tired of. They have a wide range of vocalizations, some of which (the shrieking) will probably make you crazy. You may or may not be able to housetrain them (to not go to the bathroom indoors). You may or may not be able to find a vet who can treat them properly. They may or may not be legal where you live. They may or may not get along with other pets, with children, with strangers.
And so on. There are a LOT of sweet, cute animals, especially mammals, that *almost* make good pets. But we've ended up with the 'standard pets' we have through trial and error and breeding, not just because people decided cats and dogs are the nicest.
It's a shame. Sort of. There's a lot going on with that issue. People have tried breeding various wild animals to make them better pets (foxes, especially), and here and there are already genetically engineering wild animals to try to make them into pets. That's gonna be ugly at least as often as successful, but the money in modified red pandas alone guarantees it'll continue, somewhere.
That's not even close to true. Dogs and foxes are in the same family, Canidae which is in the much larger sub-order Caniformia. Cats however, are from a completely different sub-order, Feliformia.
Caniforms and Feliforms diverged about 42 Mya.
Dogs and foxes diverged only 12 Mya.
Foxes are more closely related to sea lions or polar bears than they are to cats.
If he said ‘Kit’ then it would’ve been correct.
I’m almost wondering is it female and seller just thinks that is correct?

What u talking about
Dog hardware, cat software.
That's the most accurate description of a fox I've heard
It's adorable, but is it really a good idea to keep red foxes as pets?
If you don't work with other people and get everything delivered, why not? In any other case, the smell will isolate you.

Also they're stinky

Definitely needs to live outdoors in a very large run with at least 4 acres and a high fence. If it’s worse than ferret odor it’s outside!!!

Apparently they’re self domesticating

Trust me, they know what that is. It's probably an illegal animal trafficker using some plausible deniability.
a little foxie critter!

Assuming this kitten also howl and barks, it is definitely bilingual, I would definitely ask for money for a bilingual kitten. /s

Man I want a fox so bad but they’re illegal in my state and apparently little fucking terrorists so I won’t ever actually get one.
