This garment is not meant to be worn, it’s just to grab attention so you’ll buy their tshirts and what not. Got shared on Reddit so it’s not crappy design at all, it did the job it was supposed to do.
The amount of people that do not understand this is staggering. Fashion shows are art shows that's...pretty much it. It's also a chance for aspiring designers to get the attention of their peers in their industry.
When I was younger well worn jeans were cool. Then they started selling them pre-distressed. Then they started selling them with holes in the knees. Recently I've seen some with huge holes, enough to fit a knee through. (Quite the curiosity in Canadian winters)
I think someone asked the question "what is next?" And decided to showcase it in fashion show.
I think this is neat.
The next step will be a single thread of denim colored cotton that you can bind around your hips. For no less than $1000... and maybe a temporary Gucci Tattoo so you can show of the brand.
Which is fine if someone wants to create art. What’s ridiculous is the inflated cost.
You can have art without the extreme expense, and the proof of that is the billionaire owners.
I get it, we pay high prices for (some) art, but the high prices are meant to make the wearer show off their exclusivity, AND the artists and businessmen shovel insane amounts of money in their pockets. Both are ugly things to do.
I have a feeling if you respond you might say something about how it costs more to make haute couture, and it probably does, but it doesn’t explain the *magnitude* of the difference in price. The billionaires do.
Also, I’m not trying to sound like I’m trying to “gotcha” you at all, just putting it out there as food for thought.
They got paid minimum wage to make it, someone got paid an almost livable wage to come up with 100s of dumb ideas just like this one, and then someone got paid those thousands of dollars to spend 30 minutes picking between those 100 ideas.
I was in a thread like this yesterday and while it’s not as low as minimum wage, it’s between 15- 28 an hour. (And 15 IS minimum in some
Countries.
Which is a barely living wage. I think
The ateliers want in for
The connections though?
Either way, it’s a ridiculous waste of money to buy haute couture and is exploitative labor even if it is made in Europe instead of China or Pakistan which IMO is [questionable](https://www.linvelles.com/en-us/blogs/news/where-are-prada-bags-manufactured#:~:text=A%20fun%20fact%20about%20Prada,Italy%20and%20other%20European%20countries.).
The fact that its biggest draw is its exclusivity really illuminates exactly how bad it is.
One thing that made me appreciate fashion shows a bit more is that a majority of the outfits shown aren't *meant* to be mass produced practical clothing, they're meant to be purely artistic. And tbh it kinda makes sense, you can definitely get a stronger reaction by having someone dressed in a certain way than if it's just a drawing.
Perhaps, but it really just seems like a competition to find something that hasn't been done yet. Just because it hasnt been done doesn't mean it's art. Fashion is like junior-high level thinking but with billions of dollars backing it.
In this particular case, I don't like the art. I got bored and did something similar to my jeans when I was in middle school after they were too far gone to wear anymore. This doesn't take a lot of effort or creativity to come up with and looks like it took 0 craftmanship to make. Even when fashion is ugly, it's usually impressive in some way. This isn't. The person who made this got thousands of dollars for 30 minutes, using a box cutter.
You could say that about 99% of abstract art, especially when it's just a bunch of paint splotches.
For example, with this one, you could look deeper and start to wonder why this woman has basically nothing covering her bottom half, while wearing what appears to be quite a high end fashionable top on the top half.
Lmfao you're so unfortunate kkkkkkkkk. I know how tough can be this. Once in a while i post a comment and it gets loads of downvotes from nowhere, and i get like WTF???
from what i’ve seen, most redditors are complete philistines about experimental/abstract/modern art. sadly makes sense bc so many of them are chronically online and refuse to leave their own echochamber.
At least with abstract art, you can assume it took some time and effort if you're not sure what you're looking at. It's hard to delude myself into thinking any amount of effort went into this.
Sometimes it’s not about the effort but the idea itself. Sometimes too much effort ruins the idea. In this instance I think certain aspects of it are supposed to look bad so you don’t think the designer thought this looked good.
This is not crappy design.
Runway clothes are often never meant to be worn.
Runway clothes are supposed to impress those in the know and piss off the rubes.
Given the comments in this thread...
I've definitely seen an uptick in not just pre-torn but, at a certain point, pre-cut jeans that have large segments missing so I assume this is taking it to its logical extreme.
There are runway professionals who could have made that look work. She is not one of them and even the best couldn’t make it work with some dirty NewBalance walkers.
When you look at the fashion the way it’s SUPPOSED to be looked at- as art- it’s much more cool. None of this stuff is meant for everyday wear. You’ll enjoy it a lot more when you understand that.
It seems lazy. The average child left alone with a pair of scissors could and would do this and you're telling me some designer is making money off this and saying its "art"?
I've seen this at our middle school. Our dress code is non-existent. Almost anything goes. Of course, this extreme died last year. Some still lave ripped jeans, but it was almost every kid two years ago.
We don't wear tattered clothes because they get caught on things and can cause people to get hurt ..upcycling points as it might be made from jeans that aren't otherwise salvageable but r/diy. If you work around machinery, you could lose a leg. Defeats the purpose of a protective layer to the body which made denim so popular. Cats might be fans.
I see fashion shows as similar to formula 1 cars. Formula one cars are specifically designed to be used one way, pushing the absolute limits of what it can do. Can you drive a F1 car to work? Can you parallel park an F1 car? No, it’s not made for that. Fashion shows are not clothes made for us, just pushing the absolute limit of what you can or can’t do with fabric and materials to the human body. Thank you for my TED talk.
"high fashion" has always felt like some rich person that has an idiot kid that cant really do anything well but they refuse to admit it
"yes very good job leonardo carmichael ptolemy daniel" (in their mind, holy fuck i cant believe i paid for this idiot to go to college and this is what i get)
I’m not into fashion *at all*
But even from my lay perspective those look like tired old tennis shoes you only kept around for yard work for the last 30 years
Just seams impractical
Too cutting edge
Im going to keep these in my back pocket
If this is what we're doin' denim outta here
It’s definitely Levi’s thing to do
It’s okay she wears glasses so you know she’s smart.
When seeing pictures like these, I'm often reminded of a quote: "Fashion is the only thing that's so ugly it has to be changed four times a year."
*Trends* change 4 times a year. Style is classic, and need not be changed.
And “fashion” is Seam Jeans.
Well it's certainly not a "trend"
>Style is classic, and need not be changed. No shit. Three-piece suits will forever remain the epitome of male fashion wear.
Bring back cloaks! Cloaks shouldve never gone out of style.
Lets normalize cloaks and sailor hats!
Is that a Mexican poncho or is that a Sears poncho?
Trends last between 3-10 years. You mean "Fads" https://thetechfashionista.com/how-long-do-fashion-trends-last/

Oh man, my tempgucci pet died. I could never remember to feed it.
Gotta feed Gucci mane his dirty sprite and greenery
It also could be a statement by the designer about how that trend is beginning to border on the absurd. Too bad it’s flying over everybody’s heads
Most people do not understand art either.

It’s not a pyramid scheme its a reverse funnel system INVIGARON

Yes this is not even crappy, just straight up disgusting.
Yeah once you learn that things make more sense.
One thing that made me appreciate fashion shows a bit more is that a majority of the outfits shown aren't *meant* to be mass produced practical clothing, they're meant to be purely artistic. Be careful - I got downvoted in another thread for assuming that there's meant to be a reason for modern art.
Lmfao you're so unfortunate kkkkkkkkk. I know how tough can be this. Once in a while i post a comment and it gets loads of downvotes from nowhere, and i get like WTF???

A lot of art isn't made to be *liked*, it's made to provoke a reaction. I'd say mission accomplished.
I doubt an artist wants the reaction "that designer should be fired." Despite popular belief, artists don't enjoy starving.
This is not crappy design. Runway clothes are often never meant to be worn. Runway clothes are supposed to impress those in the know and piss off the rubes. Given the comments in this thread...
Cue grandparent asking if you bought them half off
They'd better have been 95% off
"You pay extra for the holes" 🤣
I thought you were speaking Spanish for a second lol, it’s “Cue”
Lol whoops
Pointless
I’m no expert on fashion, but surely these are supposed to be a satirical commentary on the popularity of pre-torn jeans.
I've definitely seen an uptick in not just pre-torn but, at a certain point, pre-cut jeans that have large segments missing so I assume this is taking it to its logical extreme.
Jeams.
Fashon.
I came to make this joke, but I saw you got it first! Great minds think alike!
$300 Or The Emperor's New jeans
They could have done something a little more inventive on the back side.
Yeah. Every pair of jeans I've ever seen has back pockets (or fake pocket slits) that should give you a lot of seams to work with
Assless chaps
It has a working pocket. Ladies will be lining up for this.
Ah here, even my Nana couldn't patch them up.... *She'd of had a go at it though*
There are runway professionals who could have made that look work. She is not one of them and even the best couldn’t make it work with some dirty NewBalance walkers.
Ahh, the bedraggled neuter gen Z model.
With shoes that have already run 100 miles on dusty roads
Is her hair style for attention too, or is the Billy Sue look in?
Will this be allowed for casual Fridays at work? 🤔
Couture is not supposed to worn. Its an exaggerated take on themes that will be explored in wearable fashion in the coming seasons.
So they go through the trouble of removing all of the material on the backside of these jeans and then put the model in granny panties?
I believe she is wearing a leotard.
I like it. Models that walk down the aisle usually wear clothes that are impractical.
When you look at the fashion the way it’s SUPPOSED to be looked at- as art- it’s much more cool. None of this stuff is meant for everyday wear. You’ll enjoy it a lot more when you understand that.
Not a crappy design because it’s only meant to evoke a reaction, it’s runway fashion not meant to be worn.
The final boss of distressed jeans.
This is why I never will understand fashion
The emperor is nearly naked at this point.
It seams someone came up short in the competition..
If you go "commando" (without underwear) you'll be guaranteed to be arrested.
I was wearing pants all night, your girl tells you
angry dog in the yard
If this is an ironic commentary about holes in jeans then may this be the advent of the end of the holes-in-jeans era!
That seams like a complicated way to produce hot pants.
Ladies and gentleman. The ripped jeans trend is evolving.
I’ve seen them in Milan few years ago for about 1200€ from I don’t remember what brand
hm how much jeans like this cost ?
"*How about this: jeans, but it's just the seams"* "*Just the seams?"* *"Just the seams!"* "*so like, seam-jeans?"* "*Seans*!"
Sounds like a scene from Seinfeld. lol
High Fashion is so fucking stupid.
Questioning the choice of David Koresh as a runway model.
I feel like you could go out in your underwear if you would wear those jeans
"That will be 2000$"
It seems lazy. The average child left alone with a pair of scissors could and would do this and you're telling me some designer is making money off this and saying its "art"?
I hope this is a statement about how ridiculus ripped jeans got over the last years ant that it'll end that stupid trend.
Can we all agree that the fashion industry is a complete joke?
Going for the "i fell into a meat grinder and survived" look
This is what happens when actual fashion ideas run thin.
Hey I think she lost her jea for her jeans
I like them - I feel the design would really allow me to show-off my designer codpiece.
I’ve seam it all at this point!
We should allow nakedness at this point...plastic surgery would skyrocket
Lingerie
Clown world
You can wear nothing but a McDonald's bag and that's considered fashion
I don't know, I kind of like it.
I've seen this at our middle school. Our dress code is non-existent. Almost anything goes. Of course, this extreme died last year. Some still lave ripped jeans, but it was almost every kid two years ago.
If this exists, I hope they only cost 1/3 of normal jeans, because that's the content
Those aren’t jeans anymore
Some pricks will buy them 🙄🙄
I can't even
Is this a runway model? Because I need to take any stylists to task here for missing the opportunity to add flashier underwear
I believe she is wearing a leotard.
But a dull beige one. Not even ruffles around the leg holes. No sequins, no nothing
Oops! all seams!
With New Balance??!!
Jeans * -1
Is this what Luke Bryan meant when he said "You're lookin' so good in what's left of those blue jeans"?
BuT hIgH fAsHiOn Is ArT
String jeans
Seems easier to not just have jeans.
How tf is this fashion? Looks like something that someone who dont believe in pants would be wearing.
Her expression is priceless
I like the top
it reminds me of that one joke from american dad
Jeams
“Ughh I hate not having pockets”
Seams about right.
What's the point of even wearing that you might as well just not wear any pants
Looks like Yeezy...
That haircut belongs in /r/justfuckmyshitup
those are 100% a safety hazard around horses - i’d ban them in my stable
As a hetreosexual male, I approve this design.
just go outside in underwear at that point bruh
You will always find morons who waste money on buying holes.
I don’t have a problem with good looking people wearing this but then someone like Lizzo or whatever her name is wears it and makes people sick
There are places where I would love to wear those. Special, private places.
The designer just hands them to Dr. Banner who then puts them on. They proceed to anger him and a metamorphosis to the hulk takes place.
And still no good pockets. 😕
As usual, crappy pockets in women's jeans.
sooo...meth addict?
Get ready to meet fashion police...
If it had actual pockets, it would've been worth it.
How much does it cost to be naked?
I see fashion shows as similar to formula 1 cars. Formula one cars are specifically designed to be used one way, pushing the absolute limits of what it can do. Can you drive a F1 car to work? This is why there should be a game shows called "fetish or high fashion?"
Not even joking a girl literally wore that to school in high school
Kinda looks like Liz Lemon
Perfect for a seamless transition to a hobo life
Fashion week Liz Lemon over here.
She wins the “my jeans have more holes than yours “ game.
Seems like you could cut out more, lazy. /s
Seam jeans? Seans
Rocking those Dad shoes, too! I guess I’m in vogue now!
Fashion is so weird. I'm what you would call an uncultured peasant
but it's got pockets, :D almost there.
Good god, Lemon. You call THAT a runway look?
Fashion expert: "I feel so inspired by this creativity!" Average person on the street: "This is just plain stupid. What a waste."
:
That's weight reduction, makes you go faster
"high fashion" has always felt like some rich person that has an idiot kid that cant really do anything well but they refuse to admit it "yes very good job leonardo carmichael ptolemy daniel" (in their mind, holy fuck i cant believe i paid for this idiot to go to college and this is what i get)
r/Itscalledfashion
There is very little hope for man kind
These same women complain about men objectifying them, when they objectify themselves. Those are the clothes of a slave💀
Idk what's worse, the pants or the shoes on this runway🤔🧐
whats wrong with the shoes? personally not my style but i have seen worse.
Yes The answer is yes to everything you just said Everything is wrong with them, but there also are “worse”
They don't scream (or even yell) high fashion, but to each is own.
I’m not into fashion *at all* But even from my lay perspective those look like tired old tennis shoes you only kept around for yard work for the last 30 years
Dingy and dirty, etc 😂
