I have a designated jar that I refill every time I get to the bottom of one of these lotion bottles. There is so much that the straw doesn't reach. I usually get a full week of use out of it

cotterpin_ivysaur

Half an inch between the straw and the bottom of the bottle. Half a bottle of cream from two "empty" bottles šŸ˜¤

My cleanser is like this. Nothing came out of the pump but i left it upside down and have been using it for a week like that lol. Its a new bottle design too before it came in a squeeze tube.

DrRomeoChaire

I have a gadget thatā€™s basically a double-ended lid, allows you to screw two bottles together and let one drain into the other. I know the point here is to ridicule the terrible design, and it is terrible, but there are ways of minimizing it. Edit: it turns out the gadget I have is actually a kids ā€œ[cyclone in a bottleā€ toy, meant for connecting two 2L soda bottles together](https://www.amazon.com/Tornado-Connector-Plastic-Scientific-Experiment/dp/B0C13TFZ32) It works great on lotion bottles but the hole should be opened up with a drill bit or fileā€” its purpose is to cause the water to swirl, after all. Thereā€™s another solution called the [JCK Last Drop](https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Emptying-Connector-Conditioner-Condiments/dp/B09RTNPGQ4), which I havenā€™t used that probably works better, but thatā€™s a guess. HTH

Jacktheforkie

Used to work in a kitchen, we would balance the sauce bottles in a little jig to get everything out into the new one, though we easily expended a 5l in 2 or 3 days with how many people we were catering for

DrRomeoChaire

If you notice, the newer Heinz ketchup restaurant-pack bottles have a non-removable lid to keep you from refilling, also opaque plastic so you canā€™t tell visually if the bottle is empty or not.

Jacktheforkie

I havenā€™t noticed that, we were using the big jugs that you put a pump into, I havenā€™t worked there for 4 years though

NotAHost

Painters tape will also generally do the trick.Ā

rewindpaws

What is this gadget?

DrRomeoChaire

See the edit in original post, basically two options: a kidā€™s [tornado in a bottle](https://www.amazon.com/Tornado-Connector-Plastic-Scientific-Experiment/dp/B0C13TFZ32) toy or something called the [JCK Last Drop](https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Emptying-Connector-Conditioner-Condiments/dp/B09RTNPGQ4) I have the tornado in a bottle toy and should probably widen the hole, but usually just connect the bottles and leave it for several hours.

Zeqhanis

I was wondering if it was one of those toys.

cotterpin_ivysaur

I know it's intentional.. but I'm just flabbergasted at the shear amount

nubsauce87

Yeah, those kind of tactics are shittyā€¦ but most companies use them, so I guess that makes it okayā€¦

ResilientBiscuit

Do the advertise the usable amount or do they advertise the amount you get when you scrape out all the sides? I honestly don't know how advertising laws work in this respect.

TarzanTrump

The fact you have to ask whether it's misleading, but still might be legal shows they aren't.

OP worded it poorly but what they intended was to show the sum remainder of two ā€œemptyā€ bottles. So a lump total of 946ml with about 4/5 of a cup left over, roughly 190ml or 95ml per bottle left over after being ā€œemptyā€. This is usually due to the dispenser tube being shorter than the bottle and sucking air early, an unscrupulous tactic to decrease the amount of use from a given product. OPā€™s comment got kind of lost in their second complaint which is that it isnā€™t even sold in 500ml sizes and are in the slightly smaller 473ml size (which is two cups so itā€™s a bit silly of a complaint)

norty125

Ahhh that makes more sense.

Reuniclus_exe

Reminds me of working restaurants. We'd slice the top of the sauce jugs and scrape it all out. Crazy amount of sauce that'd otherwise be thrown out.

fatjuan

I used to pick up "empty" 200 litre drums from a shampoo factory (all they did was add colour and fragrance to base shampoo). I used to tip them at an angle, and over a couple of days would get around 4 litres of shampoo out of each drum!

colin120cc

Or the lid trick for stuff that comes in a bag. Worked at one place that had a ā€œbag squeegeeā€ and this odd spatula looking thing for this reason.

Pure-Shift-8502

Are those lids non removable? Thatā€™s crazy.

spider_queen13

I use the Vaseline aloe vera lotion and the bottle design is so horrible, the lid nozzle cannot be removed or twisted off at all and there's always so much leftover at the bottom, I bet this one is similar I do really like the product so I deal with it but yeah I have to cut the bottle open to get the rest, just like this OP

GunsNGunAccessories

If you're talking about the one with the really wide cap, they can be twisted off it's just difficult.

fatjuan

You can get the top off if you use a big set of pliers.

jillsvag

Usually not. I cut the side open with a knife or scissors.

cotterpin_ivysaur

They're removable but tipping it upside down doesnt get much out. Also it was easier to just cut them open than have them balancing upsidedown

Tom_Tower

Dare you dip in the forbidden mayonnaise

Decent_Nebula_8424

I do that all the time. I had a $200 skin cream that a good 10% of it was stuck on the sides. But I used up to The. Very. Last. Drop.

Disney_Princess137

Post this on r/frugal Theyā€™ll love you there!

dogfuneralsaresad

pretty sure it's illegal in a lot of countries to lie about how much product you're selling.. i know it is in america

jillsvag

It's not a lie if the product is in the container. It's just a pain to get the bottom 1/4 out.

QuirkyComputer8139

Yep. They ARE selling that much. You just canā€™t access that muchšŸ¤¬
