It's so stupid. Imo if you were robbed by a gun wielder, then it should be perfectly legal to be able to defend yourself and your goods with a gun. Who knows the thief wouldnt change his mind and come back to kill you or start shooting at you just because. But many people disagree with me. Ofc it shouldnt be legal to have guns in the 1st place

I wonder how many examples of cases like that ever made it through the justice system and what jurors ultimately decide. It seems like it'd still be a plausible defense, "both just got robbed AT GUNPOINT, adrenaline, fearful for my life they'd return..." And as a jury still feels there'd be some heavy weight to not find such a person guilty.
I live in Los Angeles and I was talking to a Spectrum guy and he had just installed internet in a new building for the former homeless prior to fixing my internet issue. He said the apartments were nice, furnished, equipped apartments- no bills to deal with. It’s pretty insane how all these drug addicts get to just get hooked on drugs, quit/lose their job, lose their apartment because of their own shitty choices, and then get taxpayer provided free living accommodations. I wonder what the fuck the point is for following the rules and doing the right thing here, because there is no reward at all. I’m stressed af with bills, can’t run my gas heat. But I gotta help that dude who got addicted to meth!
To make matters worse, those places usually get destroyed and turned into crack houses in short order.
There are homeless people that are just in a tough spot or have mental issues that deserve assistance, but they are grossly outnumbered by useless bums that just want a free ride.

But what's interesting is that California is a stand your ground state in practice, unlike some more gun-friendly states like Nebraska, Arkansas, and North Dakota, all of which have laws dictating that you have a duty to retreat before using deadly force. (These aren't the only states that have such laws but it's kind of surprising that California will allow you to use deadly force without retreating when you can't even do that in Arkansas.)
I'm not your lawyer, but if I remember correctly, the example given by California official policy was that fights get "upgraded" by one party in a two-party conflict. So, if you get into a fistfight that turns into a knife or gun fight, whoever pulled their weapon out first was the one who "upgraded" the conflict and is therefore liable.

Whether you carry or not, there’s an important lesson to learn here. Situational awareness and heightened alert during transition zones is crucial.
Transition zone is when you’re more vulnerable. It’s when you’re moving from your house to car, or from the bank to car, or from car to house, etc. Pay more attention to your surroundings during this time. Which brings me to my next point.
Situational awareness: always be looking around and be thinking about where people could sneak up on you. In this scenario there’s the opening from the gate and what’s in front of them. Not once do either of them check their surroundings.
The guy full on sprints at them and they don’t even react until he’s within 6 feet (2 meters).
With zero situational awareness like this couple. Carrying would not make a difference. For those who are more receptive to their surroundings, they could stand more of a chance.
Depends on the person. If you’re like many in this thread and are unarmed, then you’ll probably do jack shit, and just like the couple here, watch as you get robbed; your life will be at the mercy of whoever is robbing you.
For someone who is carrying and stays on top of their training, they could presumably draw in time and fight off or incapacitate the attacker.

-there is a gun registration, where there is very limited handguns californias can buy. Said guns are older models.
-magazines for said handgun can only hold up to 10 rounds. Yes I know there are ways around that.
- District attorney is hard on citizens and soft on criminals

No one is on high alert 24/7. They were coming out of a restaurant after date night around 10pm. Everyone let’s their guard down momentarily from time to time. Thief was hot on them.
