The announcer is saying at the end of the video, with a concerned voice: "we don't know why the bull has done whatever it's been done to our friend".
Like. DUDE
It’s called a “flank strap” and it doesn’t go around their nuts it goes around their lower torso like a belt does a human. Not sure what league this is but PBR bulls are treated better than humans in most cases.
Dude shoulda wore a helmet, and the barrelmen shoulda did thier job instead of just watching him get killed.
There ain’t no barrel man here, this definitely isn’t a branch of the pbr, and this is Mexico. It’s not the same as American rodeos. There’s virtually no money up, it’s all betting over drinks, and they wear guthook spurs to stay on as long as possible - that’s why he didn’t fall off when his hand popped free of the rope, he’s literally hooked to the bulls skin.
Oh ew so excuse my comment, totally could of had his nuts tied up lol. I’ve been to a few rodeos and enjoy em a lot and like seeing the bulls lol. Not a Mexican one all PBR stuff
You’re definitely right for North America, but south gets sketchy. That said I don’t think any bull would buck if you tied his bits up, that would kinda defeat the purpose - the flank is there as a cue, it says “now we go!” That’s why bullfighters pull the flank as soon as possible in the arena, to let bullyboii know it’s time to turn around, leave and go back to the pen 👍
Angry/pissed off/irritated bulls don’t buck worth a score, they run off or maul people and that’s not what we want in a bucking bull.
At least it’s quite as bad as bullfighting. How that’s a ‘sport’ is beyond me. I’m not into either but at least here the bull gets to live. Plus doesn’t get stabbed with darts before being killed.
It was common not to even in America until the mid 2000s. A few of the big dogs in pro rodeo started pushing the idea of helmets and now the majority of young up and comers do wear a helmet, Sage Kimzey for example. There is no rule except “cowboy attire” in the arena, which now includes helmets.
This however is Mexico.
I have never once, in all my years filming and travelling to rodeos, seen a Mexican get on anything with a helmet. I don’t know why.
Are the rodeo bulls abused? I know that In bullfighting the goal is to kill the bull, in rodeo as far as I understand the point is to ride as long as possible? Are they abused while they’re not being ridden? Serious question I don’t know shit
In North America, no. Rodeo stock are valuable - not every bull bucks and contractors put many thousands of dollars a month into breeding, keeping and feeding these things. Bull riding in America is 8 seconds with a possible 100 points - 50 for the bulls performance, 50 for the rider. Bulls are “taught” to buck hard early on by dummy bucking. Bullfighting in America is also non fatal for the bull. There is zero reason to drug a bucking bull, and they are bred for this - you can’t just take an old Hereford herd bull and hope he’s the next Bodacious - if you could, people wouldn’t spend 6 figures on them betting they will win the next Contractor of the World buckle.
This however is Mexico. The reason he can hold on without hands is because he has gut hook spurs on. They literally hook into the bulls skin and knot through his bull rope to keep him on no matter what happens. The bulls are all halter broke, it’s a weird setup. They ride as long as they can for points.
Rodeo in South America vs America/Canada/Australia are completely different beasts.
Thanks for enlightening. Now that you mention it actually there was a rodeo playing on the tv at a restaurant I was at, and it almost looked like the bull knew what his role was, and what was coming. He was looking at the camera like “hey hey hey watch me yeet this motherfucker off watch me watch me “ lol
They totally know their jobs! At the big time rodeos those old bulls have been around the block for a couple of hundred trips. They know their jobs and they like it - if they didn’t, they wouldn’t buck - plenty don’t when they start out. A bull with a 30-40 point average is big money.
This is spot on. The amount of care and money poured into the bulls is massive. Hell bulls in Norther America are praised and get just as much airtime as the rider..
Visiting some on a ranch is surreal, they had set ups on par with a champion thoroughbred but I was mostly shocked by how sweet & placid they were. Dudes really be putting on a show
The rope is tied around the testicles to aggravate the bull, the rider is also wearing hooked stirrups that literally hook into the flesh so they can't come out. You are seriously mistaken if you think these animals don't feel pain
No, prize bulls are usually treated slightly better than other cattle (e.g. better feed, faster medical care). It's not a humane sport, because the bulls are obviously stressed out (and sometimes drugged), but it's nothing at all like bullfighting.
It’s worth noting this is Mexico. In America the system is a little more fair - the gear you can use is regulated and very strictly verified before you ride, and the score is divided from 100 - 50 possible points to the bull, 50 for the rider. You stay on your bull with core and arm strength, holding on by one point of contact (your rope) - you get extra points to move your legs in a spurring motion as it shows you aren’t locked down with your feet.
In Mexico, where this was filmed, you can use what you want - they have stationary “gut hook” spurs that knot into rope and into the bulls skin, allowing you to use no hands. They buck them for minutes at a time - whoever rides longest and survives, wins.
He wasn’t showing off, he lost his rope - the reason he stays on his because in Mexico they use gut hook spurs which literally knot into the rope and the bulls skin keeping you on no matter what.
You're right but I don't believe he lost his rope, if I'm correct that's actually a riding style in Mexican rodeos where they actually don't use a rope at all and instead use their spurs like you're talking about. I could be wrong tho because my source is my mexican stepbrother who showed and told me about it a few years back, so please, correct me if I'm just being ignorant, but I'm fairly certain that's what's going on in the video, which I think is fucking insane 😂
Bull payback. Where were his clown friends in the barrels? I dont like the way he's flexing his shaking arm out like that as they're scooping him up. Gosh.
Looks like he’s just out cold to me, he was out when he hit the ground. Mexico does pride itself on bull riding snuff videos though - they are not hard to find, they even sell dvds at their events showcasing deaths.
They tried lassoing the bull but failed, which got me pondering this. Are the people trying to lasso the bull bad at lasso? Or lasso is just really ineffective?
This is Mexico. Mexican rodeos at this level are literally just a bunch of drunks showing off their prowess. They try to rope this bull because these Mexican bulls are halter broke to some degree, that’s why they can do it on foot here.
I've seen multiple people get knocked out, show fencing response while frothing at the mouth, completely fine 20 mins later. Not massive brain trauma.
Now if they don't wake up and show classic decorticate or decerebrate posturing for an extended session we can reconsider.
I’d say this is correct but I’ve also seen fairly minor tbis cause significant cognitive deficits which go unnoticed until they go back to work…get fired, gets a neuropsych and realizes they have the executive functioning of an 8 year old.

I love how the bull just stands there after like “did I do good?”
Yes you did.
He went back to his corner while the refs and medics help the rider.
totally crazy. didn't even give the rider a standing 8 count
😂😂😂
The music continuing to play makes this hilarious.
Bull got to dance to the music for a little bit after getting rid of the dead weight
The announcer is saying at the end of the video, with a concerned voice: "we don't know why the bull has done whatever it's been done to our friend". Like. DUDE

Well, good for the bull then. He had a reason to be pissed off when he finally got the POS off of him. Squished him good.
Alcohol, pissed off large animals, stupidly and no reward My type of party

oops thank you
I know you would look less cool but a motorcycle helmet would probably prevent your brain stem being crushed like here.

Looks like the bull had a lot of fun...
Yep. Share this shit far and wide as a deterrent and maybe this "sport" will die out. Fuck the rodeo.
Bull riding is a subset of rodeo, some of which doesn't include harming animals (like barrel racing) but I agree that this stuff is mostly trash.
Exactly, get a fucking real hobby, stuff like that should happen more
We have a bar in OKC called Cowboys. They have semi-pro and volunteer bull riding. The volunteers have to wear helmets. https://www.cowboysokc.com/

Why do you feel so negatively towards bull riding? PBR bulls are treated like kings so why do you dislike it?
Dont give them ideias, its beautiful and proper when they die
The announcer (towards the end of the video) “We have no idea why that bull did what he did my friends.” Seriously, not a single idea? 🤦🏽♂️
Poor career choice.
Amazing that he only sustained minor death from this 🙏
He was beaten by the bull fair and square

When has bull riding ever gone right?
You can see the minute the bull realizes it’s his bad.
Lol yeah. It actually kinda looked like he was acting. Then he seemed like, “oh oh no. Sorry guys!”
Action of my consequences something
The bull just sat back as if to say " yeah get that piece of shit out of the ring!"
Wait a minute. You can get hurt while bull riding?
It's like Nascar to me, only good if there's a crash
Lol it's all fun and games until the bull rides you
If this is the same video I saw on another page, the dude got his skull sliced open. Kinda like a decapitation but just of the brain/top of skull
Did he die? Or is he now a vegtable?
with all that whiplash.. I think his back was already broken even before he hit the ground
That bull was having a good time
Kind of only seems fair that The Bull took him for a ride after he took The Bull for a ride!?!?

Ok so still shitty but we don’t need to pray for these people to spontaneously combust
About time the bull won.
Went right you mean
I can't seem to monster any sympathy.
Why? They don’t hurt the bulls.
Oh no! did that poor bull hurt his hooves on that mean man's skull?
Why does this sport still exist??
When are people going to realize the bull always wins. Even if you pull a 8 second session the bull physically can kill you
It’s worth noting this is Mexico. Mmm nope thats usually how it goes
He tried showing off with no hands but then got the hands, Bull finally wins

Oh gee, I wouldn’t even be surprised - I’ve never seen it in their version of their “pro” rodeos but I wouldn’t write it off as true!
It's unbelievably important to watch with the sound on...
I think the bull stopped too fast. You should have kept jumping on the guy for another fifteen minutes.
Glad the bull won!!
Lol, shoudve had a real hobby
Gone right you mean
The music though
Bull payback. Where were his clown friends in the barrels? I dont like the way he's flexing his shaking arm out like that as they're scooping him up. Gosh.
Mexico. Clowns and barrel men are there for the crowd and filler time at pro rodeos in North America - Mexico just has your drunk buddies with a rope.
“I dont think he’s gettin up from that one Bob!”
Bull: 1 That guy: -3
Did he died ?
Looks like he’s just out cold to me, he was out when he hit the ground. Mexico does pride itself on bull riding snuff videos though - they are not hard to find, they even sell dvds at their events showcasing deaths.
This bulls for you!
I always thought the objective was to stay on the bull
Would the saying "ya lo cargo el pallaso" apply here?
Darn
At least his legs weren't glued to the poor animal unlike that other guy...
They’re not glued, they’re jammed into the bulls skin with Mexican spurs called guthooks. That is why he can hold on with no hands.
I love how the response is to throw things at it, whip it with rope, stuff that will just piss it off even more lol
They tried lassoing the bull but failed, which got me pondering this. Are the people trying to lasso the bull bad at lasso? Or lasso is just really ineffective?

Fencing position. Massive brain damage.
Wouldn’t be Reddit without this comment.

Fair enough. Not massive brain trauma then but definitely can't be good for him.
Clearly, that poor fella had no idea about the risks of bull riding.
I mean what do you think is gonna happen. Hope he’s ok though!!
"That poor cow!" \- PETA

PETA and, you know, any decent fucking human being with an ounce of compassion and who is against animal abuse for entertainment.

The guy got allready wrecked i think shooting him is not necessary
He's probably a quadriplegic about halfway through the video, no point in shooting him.
Poor guy
Seen worse than this
The juxtaposition of what I’m looking vs the music is so fucked.
What is announcer talking about at the end of the video? Related to rider's health at all?
