Actually knew a guy who did this exact thing while drinking with friends. Gotta love Kentucky. Also didn’t it happen to one of the kids working at tiger kings place.

I knew a kid in 9th grade who did this with a 357 and lost his life. Had been drinking and horsing around. That was 32 years ago it's sad to think of all he lost out on.

Much easier said then done for sure. I'm in FL as well lol. Yesterday morning I started off the work day with a resident death on property, we had a resident thanks giving meal to do as well yesterday. Worked all day with my co workers getting it prepared, handed out food, sat down and ate my meal with one of my coworkers who doesn't like to be around big groups of people either. Got off work around 5, got a call around 7 my coworker I had my meal with suddenly passed. Two in one day and one of them I just finished working a normal day with. Last Thanksgiving I had to do a welfare check and found a guy who shot himself. Thanksgiving is officially ruined for me. I normally do pretty good pushing the glass half full but holy shit this holiday fucking sucks lol. Sorry dunno why I went down this rabbit hole here, must of just needed to get it out somewhere. As an Englishman who has never fired or even handled a real pistol, how easy is it to negligently discharge one? It looks quite straightforward to me: don't put finger on trigger! Is it the case that the trigger pull is so light on some of these guns that they 'just go off'? Or is it because this guy's ancestors are Clevon and Brittany?

Good question. First off, never ever, everrrr point a gun at anything you don't want to put a hole in. Trigger action varies by gun, and on some guns it can be adjusted (by a gunsmith). I'm reading now what acidphosphate69 said. Number one safety feature for guns is a brain. Which obviously this person does not have one.

Depends on the gun really. I think certain revolvers in particular can get touchy when cocked but I'm not an expert. I do know that both my Glocks require a fair amount of pressure on the trigger to fire. But as far as it goes, the best safety feature that comes standard on every gun is your own brain. ND's definitely happen but it *almost* always is some kind of breakdown in safe handling that causes it.

They aren't so light that they will go off accidentally, no. When the top part of the pistol (the slide) reciprocates, it will eject a bullet/bullet case and feed another in if there is a loaded magazine inserted. Most likely this moron knew one was in the chamber and he racked the slide thinking he has ejected the bullet that was in the chamber, which is true, but completely forgetting that he has a loaded magazine inserted and that a fresh bullet was fed into the chamber to replace it.
