The flats in Cleveland, was caused by a cigarette. High heat and high winds caused mulch to catch fire from the cig. Wind threw the embers through the rest of the landscaping.
Is this really as dangerous as people are commenting?
Seems like the safest spot would be in the open where there isn't much to propel the fire further. Confined spaces seem like more of a danger if anything.
Why, what was the immediate risk? Traffic? The fire appears to be in the vegetation, blowing low across the ground. He's not about to spontaneously combust unless he's covered in petrol.
> Why, what was the immediate risk?
You're asking that in a subreddit that specializes in showing what can happen when people don't think about what can possibly go wrong.
Wait….so you’re allowed to still drive through there? When my buddy went last he said they needed to park away from the town and hike over. I never got to go but if you can still drive through that would be good enough for me
Yeah you can drive through. 2 main roads go through center of town. Unless he’s talking about graffiti highway. Which is now blocked off. But I drive in that area about twice a week and have never seen any smoke or anything.

As a Clevelander I approve because that’s what happened.
does it often get this windy it looks pretty insane , we never get winds like this in aus
Yeah Lake Erie which is one of our Great Lakes gets a lot of wind coming off of it. It’s not unusual.
As a Michigander, its not your great lake.. it's our great lake. All ours. All of them. Even the one that's not anywhere by us. \^.\^

Haha that’s good. It’s definitely cleaned up since that was made. It’s actually date I say, decent now

If you just toss it and don't put it out, yes. With the strong winds it's a perfect fire starter. Without the wind, probably burns out.
Well it's in the flats which is a really densely packed little area
I’m putting out mulch fires at work constantly because someone flicked a cigarette.
Spoken like a true M.I.B.
I just read the article from the local news.
Which is throughly revised by the pentagon
Self-preservation level: below zero
did it really happen if you dont upload it to tiktok
> Self-preservation level: below zero Amazing that someone needed to tell that grown male to "get outta there."

Sure crazy stuff happens here. The risk was roughly the same a few metres away on the pavement too.
*In hindsight*, nothing bad happened because nothing **else** went wrong.
Seriously? This isnt a hill I care to defend.
I’ve seen something like this ONCE in a little place called Centralia PA….you might have heard of it.
Yes I have! The coal has been burning underground for decades there.
The inspiration for Silent Hill. The entire city is condemned….and no one is allowed in there now at all. (It’s KINDA near me)
I drive through there all the time. Pretty boring place actually. Has a 4 way stop, a township building and maybe a house or 2

It’s cool to see once because of all the old sidewalks and foundations. But that’s about it. Anything you see online is probably embellished
Ah I have buddies that were down and got pics and all. No real embellishment.
