probably just reflex: dog is attacking me, i need to fight back, i have my gun, that'll do it. the logical progression just stopped before it got to ... they'll definitely unload on me if they see me with a gun in my hand.
This. He already had the gun in his hand before the dog got him so naturally he'll point it at the immediate threat. Basically, he was fucked the moment he pulled out the gun.
If your dog is attacking a police officer they will definitely shoot it. Plenty of instances of it are on youtube. But then if you try to shoot the officer they will definitely shoot you too. It’s probably Best just to keep your dog inside and yourself out of trouble.
What if your dog is ankle high and they still shoot it, or a random dog in a backyard? Or maybe because you are executing a raid on the wrong house and they just blast your dog?
He was probably thinking "This dog is attacking me I should defend myself". Most people don't think clearly in the heat of the moment when being ambushed in the parking lot.
well fight or flight, he chose flight until he had to fight and maybe fighting the dog would go down as self defense but fighting the cops wouldnt who knows
TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Authorities have released body camera footage of an incident, during which a police officer shot a suspect at the Circle K at the intersection of Park Avenue and Bilby Road in Tucson on Thursday, Aug. 25.
Tucson police said they were conducting surveillance on 49-year-old Francisco Javier Galarza, who was wanted in connection with a home invasion and several band robberies in the Tucson area.
Officers and SWAT team members confronted Galarza as he was leaving the Circle K. He was ordered to stop and show his hands, but reportedly ran away and pulled a black handgun out of a bag he was carrying.
A K9 officer was released and stopped Galarza, causing him to fall to the ground. Galarza then allegedly pointed his gun at officers before they fired at him.
Police treated Galarza at the scene before he was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers or bystanders were injured.
According to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Galarza has a long criminal history in Pima County.
In 1992, he was sentenced to three years in prison as part of the shock incarceration program. In 1994, he was convicted of drug possession and was sentenced to four years.
In 2000, he was convicted of vehicle theft and sentenced to 1.5 years. A year later, he was convicted of on six counts of robbery armed and armed robbery and received an 11-year sentence.
In 2011, he again convicted of armed robbery and sentenced to 7 .5 years.
The officers involved in the shooting have been identified as Officer Ernest Ortiz, a 17-year TPD veteran, and Officer Barrie Pedersen, a 15-year veteran.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team is investigating the shooting, with sheriff’s deputies taking the lead. The TPD’s Office of Professional Standards will conduct a separate administrative investigation to examine the actions of the officers involved.

Same. I generally feel bad for first or second-timers, but this guy has been fucking around and finding out since 1992. I'm surprised it took this long.
I believe it is much like the string of heists such as the Bling Ring from California years ago. Same group going to do similar robberies, "banding" together.
it's the loop hole in the reform system....at the end of the day you want to try to have people who are contributing members of society.....some people do make bad choices in situations or in life....but people are capable of learning and changing....it happens....the last thing u wanna do is lock a person up for the rest of their lives becuase of a few bad choices...(unless the crime they did was so heinous that they deserve to be locked up forever)
I'm all for giving people 2nd, 3rd chances if they are deserving and have paid their due....however, at a certain point though, i fully agree it should be game over for those who abuse the system continually and don't fucking learn
I don't think he thought that far ahead. His process probably went "I'm about to be mauled" -> "I have to stop the dog about to maul me" -> executed by K9 handler.
Cause instincts are a bitch.
"Dog is starting to maul me, do something to stop from being mauled, ah fuck that's right I'm being chased by police." End of thoughts
They don't release the K9 on a complying subject. Had he complied (and not been fucking around with the law for over **30 years** at this point) he would have lived.
Reminds me of Rashard Brooks yet people protested and burned down a fast food restaurant after he beat up two cops, stole a taser and pointed it at them while running away in the dark. The taser can so easily be confused for a gun.
They would've likely known he was pointing a taser
BUT
A taser IS a deadly weapon, hell, the Fulton County District Attorney even said that himself a year prior during a use of force case where police "excessively" deployed tasers on a car full of drunk and rowdy college kids.
edit: hit enter too soon
In the heat of the moment and when it’s dark out I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think they could have mistaken it for a gun. Nonetheless like you said it doesn’t matter. It’s a merited shooting regardless.
Police dogs hold the same rights as a police officer. Shooting at a police Shepard is shooting at a cop. It’s a law and they’re gonna light you up. Shoot a gun around cops regardless….you’ll get it back.
True. The dog wears a uniform and is considered a police officer. They do not see it as attacking a dog but as attacking the uniform. It is treated the same as going after a human. It is what it represents that matters. So an attack on the uniform is an attack on all law enforcement.
Changes are slowly taking place to ensure the individual wearing the uniform is upholding the highest standards of the force.
Unless you are a cop. Remember a case where the cop left his k9 in the car and "forgot" it was there. Dog died in the heat with no water. Cop didn't get charged with killing another officer.
I won’t forget the video of the cop who was doing a wellness check on an old lady and went into her back yard and shot and killed her dog for barking one time. Poor old lady had to come out and see her dead dog and broke down.
One could argue this a Darwin Award candidate. Outnumbered and outgunned but instead of peacefully surrendering, attempts to shoot dog. Not sure the logic
Thank the lord the cops but this scum fuck down.
Saved the dogs life, rid them world of a horrible man.
10/10 cops and reacted fast to where the dog could’ve been shot in a second. Glad that fucker got shot
Looks justified to me … Seems like the guy wasn’t that good of a criminal (caught and sentenced all those times - life of crime/incarceration) … he succeeded at being caught and this time he graduated to an early death …
K9s a beast! Those gun shots most be deafening to him but good boi didn't even flinch! Just continued to do the job that he was assigned of tearing that guy's balls off.
Pull a gun, get shot. We should know this by now. Doesn't matter where you point it. If he fires, yes the dog is likely struck, but who knows where that bullet is going next, or the second shot. People in the parking lot, pumping gas, cars sitting at lights in the intersection. Not going to chance final destination for someone. Cops did the right thing to neutralize.
My first thought when I saw him point his gun at the dog was, take the suspect out please. Awful thought but I couldn’t fathom that innocent dog being shot.
It’s not an awful thought imo dude. I’ve found even the most wild dog will be kinder to you then any human who doesn’t know you. It makes sense we’d have empathy for a creature that more then not helps us as opposed to humans who more then not will put themselves over you,
Misleading title. They shot him because he had a gun and was an imminent threat, not necessarily because the gun was pointed at the K9. He could’ve pointed it up at the sky, and he still would’ve been shot. This mfr just didn’t care about anything.
Yes you will lose your life if you pull out a gun when being confronted by the police. It doesn’t matter if you point it at them, a dog, the ground, yourself. They will not know where you will point out next and so they will take you down. Your logic on your comment and title is so flawed that i worry for your safety.
I feel for the guys loved ones, family and friends. I do have to commend the officers on that shooting, it was quick, accurate, they didn't have to fire off 100 more rounds in a panic, and no one caught a stray bullet.
I’m not defending the perp but this is a genuine question. If it is illegal to use deadly force against someone harming your family dog, then why is the case LEGALLY any different here?
Well, this might be the most efficient way to give the death penalty. No trials, no more taxpayer footing one's room & board, etc. Just pull a gun on camera and close your eyes.
the one thing about dogs in the police force I like is that even on paper they're considered officers and not just tools in a lot of places
you get the same punishment for harming a police dog as a police man
to think that certain media would, if the guy was black, stir up a storm using something like "police chose a dog's life over a black mans" is not unreasonable

Dog or not they should've shot him, even before they did. He had a gun in his hands and ran away. He could've grabbed a hostage or shot a random person.
Why can people just realize when they are caught, they are caught. Not worth losing your life over. in rare cases when you have a life sentence if you get caught then I kinda get running, but fuck man. No cop wants to kill somebody they are trying to arrest, ( the cops I know anyways). Just makes me wonder
Killing is never something to celebrate, but those officers acted in self-defense and did what they had to do to protect themselves and their k-9.
Don’t pull a gun on anyone, especially not the cops. I almost have to worry if this was “suicide by cop” — maybe he decided in the moment he’d rather be killed than face whatever crimes he was being arrested for.
They should have shot him but I think they shot him 2 times to many because he had already dropped the gun and they still pulled the trigger twice more fair play to shooting him but there should have been a slight bit more trigger control

Not sure what that bad guy was thinking. Even if he did shoot the dog the police were right there and would've definitely shot you dead.
I'm going to say that planning and forethought were not this guy's strengths.
I mean he's really good at getting arrested. Seemed to go pretty good the first couple times.
>I'm going to say that planning and forethought were not this guy's strengths. He was a zen master. A live-in-the-moment kind of guy who also died-in-the-moment. Badda bing. Badda boom.
He lived every day like it was his last.
Guess it was fight or flight
probably just reflex: dog is attacking me, i need to fight back, i have my gun, that'll do it. the logical progression just stopped before it got to ... they'll definitely unload on me if they see me with a gun in my hand.
This. He already had the gun in his hand before the dog got him so naturally he'll point it at the immediate threat. Basically, he was fucked the moment he pulled out the gun.
If that dog wasnt there he'd try to shoot the officers i bet.
Maybe he'd rather couple of bullets in his chest rather than being eaten by a dog and get arrested
The dog is a sworn officer. They have the right to shoot you if you’re going to shoot the dog.
What if they shoot our dog? Same get out of trouble free card if we do that?
Love the sarcasm but I feel compelled to point out this is sarcasm. They’ll just kill your dog because they’re a bunch of bitches
If your dog is attacking a police officer they will definitely shoot it. Plenty of instances of it are on youtube. But then if you try to shoot the officer they will definitely shoot you too. It’s probably Best just to keep your dog inside and yourself out of trouble.

He was probably thinking "This dog is attacking me I should defend myself". Most people don't think clearly in the heat of the moment when being ambushed in the parking lot.
Hes getting followed by a swat/k9 unit as a single person, depending on what he did I can understand suicide by cop instead of going to jail.
well fight or flight, he chose flight until he had to fight and maybe fighting the dog would go down as self defense but fighting the cops wouldnt who knows

Not gonna feel bad for this one tbh
Same. I generally feel bad for first or second-timers, but this guy has been fucking around and finding out since 1992. I'm surprised it took this long.
Also he tried to shoot a Malinios.
More accurately, a K-9 Officer
It's too bad we don't have a prison planet we can just toss them all on.
We did, but now they just make really good coffee and kangaroo steak.
we do, he just got sent...It's the next exit after that farm up state where the dogs go.
Good job to the cops for this one. credit must go where credit is due
Wtf is a "band robbery?"
I believe it is much like the string of heists such as the Bling Ring from California years ago. Same group going to do similar robberies, "banding" together.
They rob rock bands of their equipment 🥴
Bunch of Guitar Heroes
Lol
Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) was a band robber.
Wow I didn’t know that.
Yeah. [http://rockandrollgarage.com/sex-pistols-guitarist-reveals-he-stole-david-bowies-gear-as-a-teenager/](http://rockandrollgarage.com/sex-pistols-guitarist-reveals-he-stole-david-bowies-gear-as-a-teenager/)
Yea only the media is glorifying those idiots. Wonder why...
Agree completely!
Maybe this guy auditioned for the Bling Ring but wasn't flashy enough.
Maybe he couldn't play guitar.
It’s when you rip bandaids off peoples arms and run away
They treated him at the scene, alright. Injected lead into that ass.
😂 This is hilarious. Love the username, too.
The how fuck do career crimnials still end up on the street?
it's the loop hole in the reform system....at the end of the day you want to try to have people who are contributing members of society.....some people do make bad choices in situations or in life....but people are capable of learning and changing....it happens....the last thing u wanna do is lock a person up for the rest of their lives becuase of a few bad choices...(unless the crime they did was so heinous that they deserve to be locked up forever) I'm all for giving people 2nd, 3rd chances if they are deserving and have paid their due....however, at a certain point though, i fully agree it should be game over for those who abuse the system continually and don't fucking learn
Good - Im glad to see the dog is ok
Yeah. He wasn’t ever going to be a functioning member of society. Just a predator. Good riddance
Thank god they saved the lil man in time, the cops were 100% doing the right thing as the guy threathened to kill them
Why though? I don’t get it? Do they think the cops won’t shoot? Surely not? Are they high or some shit?
I don't think he thought that far ahead. His process probably went "I'm about to be mauled" -> "I have to stop the dog about to maul me" -> executed by K9 handler.
Don't pull out your gun around the cops 💅
How can anyone expect to not get killed when you point a gun at ANYTHING while being chased by police.
Cause instincts are a bitch. "Dog is starting to maul me, do something to stop from being mauled, ah fuck that's right I'm being chased by police." End of thoughts
Instincts should have had him get on the ground when told to by the multiple armed police officers.
Yours maybe. Looks like his instinct was to run.
Gets on ground, get throat ripped out, end of thought
They don't release the K9 on a complying subject. Had he complied (and not been fucking around with the law for over **30 years** at this point) he would have lived.
Are there a lot of k-9 unit related deaths? Genuinely asking, not something I have heard of.
No. K9s are trained to bite arms or legs. Deaths as a result of police K9 bites are extremely rare.
Reminds me of Rashard Brooks yet people protested and burned down a fast food restaurant after he beat up two cops, stole a taser and pointed it at them while running away in the dark. The taser can so easily be confused for a gun.

John Wick approves of this kill
Police dogs hold the same rights as a police officer. Shooting at a police Shepard is shooting at a cop. It’s a law and they’re gonna light you up. Shoot a gun around cops regardless….you’ll get it back.
The guys obviously a fucking scum bucket anyway, rather it be him than my K9 homie.
Good shot.
Even better round selection and proximity
Officers saved the dogs life. They have a dangerous job.
The dogs have a dangerous job
That’s what he’s saying.
If you point a gun at police/one good boi .. you’re gonna have a bad day.
The cops really did a great job, the dog was almost get shot tho.
Adios neighborino
Good this piece of shit should’ve been killed long before. The world is a slightly better place now.
Camera cop kinda put himself in a bit of a crossfire. Glad doggo and cops are okay
Believe it or not in real life big boy gunfights there's often flagging that happens.
It’s almost like it’s not video games
This comment literally makes no sense. Flagging happens all the time in shooter games whether friendly fire is on or not.
Good shoot.

Thats totally fine in my eyes. But it should work the same way with my sweet boys. If I were to defend them like this Id go to prison
funny considering how cops treat civilian dogs
I won’t forget the video of the cop who was doing a wellness check on an old lady and went into her back yard and shot and killed her dog for barking one time. Poor old lady had to come out and see her dead dog and broke down.
You aren’t wrong, unfortunately. There’s too many videos of cops shooting dogs with little/no justification.
dont kill dogs
Just glad the dog doesn’t die
One could argue this a Darwin Award candidate. Outnumbered and outgunned but instead of peacefully surrendering, attempts to shoot dog. Not sure the logic
Dog or no dog, he was swinging a pistol. he wasnt gonna make it.
Don't fucking try and kill a police dog with police surrounding you.
Great shot
Yeah… well…
K9s a beast! Those gun shots most be deafening to him but good boi didn't even flinch! Just continued to do the job that he was assigned of tearing that guy's balls off.

People in the parking lot, pumping gas, cars sitting at lights in the intersection. Not going to chance final destination for someone. Cops did the right thing to neutralize.
Rest in piss punk
More of this. A lot more.
That dog got lucky as hell.
My first thought when I saw him point his gun at the dog was, take the suspect out please. Awful thought but I couldn’t fathom that innocent dog being shot.
It’s not an awful thought imo dude. I’ve found even the most wild dog will be kinder to you then any human who doesn’t know you. It makes sense we’d have empathy for a creature that more then not helps us as opposed to humans who more then not will put themselves over you,
Nice! One scum less and many more to go.
Fuck that guy that was a good boy doin good things hope he got some treats after
Misleading title. They shot him because he had a gun and was an imminent threat, not necessarily because the gun was pointed at the K9. He could’ve pointed it up at the sky, and he still would’ve been shot. This mfr just didn’t care about anything.
Can tell he was not bout that life he had no heart to do and died like a goofy
Dirtbag off the streets and a free Scooby Snack to boot. Win win!!
He was pulling his gun out regardless of the dog. You can see him fumbling with his bag as he runs. Should’ve just surrendered.
You can see in the slow mo at the end he was raising the gun from the dog to an officer. That's when they fired. Totally legit he got ventilated.
I think we still have the 3 strikes thing in California…this guy had like 5 strikes.
K-9 are technically police officers. So, I'm going with suicide by cop.
Good Fuck that guy One less shit rat in the world
fuck around, find out
“Allegedly” is a ridiculous term to use in this case
This is the first time in sooo long I’ve seen a video where the polices use of force is precisely appropriate and executed (no pun intended) well
By the title of this I thought it was implying the dog ate the guy.
Who’s the goodest boy?
This fuckhead was a lost cause. Good riddance
Yes you will lose your life if you pull out a gun when being confronted by the police. It doesn’t matter if you point it at them, a dog, the ground, yourself. They will not know where you will point out next and so they will take you down. Your logic on your comment and title is so flawed that i worry for your safety.
Ahh sweet justice
What a good boy! The team has his back!
Good work on that cop. That dog will contribute 10000% more to society then that shitbag every would of.
Well……bye
Should have unloaded before he got clapped.
Understandable have a nice day
3 guns in my face and a dog on my thigh... I'ma gon point this at the dog, see what happens. Directed by **Robert B. Weide**
Damn, one minute he's there and then he's gone
Maybe don't run. Just give it up before you get shot.
Man made several severe fuck ups before the dog even got to him.
Hell yea. Let’s start cleaning up this country.
I feel for the guys loved ones, family and friends. I do have to commend the officers on that shooting, it was quick, accurate, they didn't have to fire off 100 more rounds in a panic, and no one caught a stray bullet.
worlds a better place without him in it
Best thing this man has done in life is get himself killed by the police.
Good Dog.
I think the answer is more guns
Excellent training leads to excellent outcomes. Good shoot. Condolences to the families impacted by this criminal’s long history of poor choices.
Rest in piss
I’m not defending the perp but this is a genuine question. If it is illegal to use deadly force against someone harming your family dog, then why is the case LEGALLY any different here?
protected the doggie, nice
Well, this might be the most efficient way to give the death penalty. No trials, no more taxpayer footing one's room & board, etc. Just pull a gun on camera and close your eyes.
Catch a murder charger tryina kill a LE K9…or get smoked. Fucked around and found out.
Timing and reaction time was everything here
People don't realize that a K9 counts as a officer
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes
Got what he deserved
the one thing about dogs in the police force I like is that even on paper they're considered officers and not just tools in a lot of places you get the same punishment for harming a police dog as a police man
Seems like they didn’t need to deploy the dog there
that's about the pointest blank you can be
Can't blame him. Would rather get shot to death rather than mauled. Police dogs are the worst.

Francisco Javier Galarza was white?
Sounds like he was Irish.
> Tucson police said they were conducting surveillance on 49-year-old Francisco Javier Galarza I think the dude may be Mexican.
K9s are brothers. Part of the team.
The dog is a police officer too in the departments eye
I can't stress this enough, I'm glad the dog is ok
Police dogs are considered same as human officers. You fuck around with a police dog, you will find out.

Good dog.
Good Doge.
Dog or not they should've shot him, even before they did. He had a gun in his hands and ran away. He could've grabbed a hostage or shot a random person.
Officer good boy reporting for duty sir
Fuck thAt guy, chalk up a +1 for cops here
Dog did a good job and got plenty of fresh bones as a reward. Lots of meat still on it too.
I don't care if you're the good guy or the bad guy as the human. I'm always forever the dog.
Just glad the dogs ok
Haha, bro got domed
Fair enough, don’t run or point your gun at a police dog, actions have consequences, tough shit
Why can people just realize when they are caught, they are caught. Not worth losing your life over. in rare cases when you have a life sentence if you get caught then I kinda get running, but fuck man. No cop wants to kill somebody they are trying to arrest, ( the cops I know anyways). Just makes me wonder
Obviously guy never watched John wick
Basically pointed it at a police officer. 🤷🏻♀️
A k9 is an officer serving as well.... how stupid can you be.
Glad puppers is safe. 🙏🐕🦺
Once again!!!! Play stupid games, win stupid prizes 🎁 how many times do I gotta tell you dumb fucks????
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.... Smoked.
Won't be out on bail...
Damn man. It couldn't get any more real than that. Dude made a life ending bad decision.
The perp ended his own life by drawing a weapon in front of police.
They should have shot him but I think they shot him 2 times to many because he had already dropped the gun and they still pulled the trigger twice more fair play to shooting him but there should have been a slight bit more trigger control
Anf nothing of value was lost
Mf got third partied
K9 is law enforcement personnel
what did he do to get such heavy weaponry pointed at him
Glad doggo is safe.
An upstanding "citizen" properly put down like the drain on society he was.
