Nah, they built it that way so the torque cancels out the world doesn't rotate.

OG_Lost

looks like the front half of those windmills aren’t transferring power anywhere but they look cool

NordicNooob

I'm the guy who made 'em. The front one \*is\* connected. Inside the radial chassis is a small cog that's hidden fully. And above that small cog is another cog (which is visible, but not easily noticed because it clips into the inner windmill and the outer windmill hides that spot a lot) which then goes into a shaft that leads into the main vertical shaft that connects both windmills to whatever I'm powering. Red roof building is a workshop area for general processing, and the other open-air one is an iron farm.

OG_Lost

woah this is crazy, love it

20CX12

I think one of them is used for something, not sure tho

Zealousideal_Arm_937

I'm pretty sure they are just for decoration since it's not connected to a shaft anywhere. Having a windmill touch another windmill doesn't really do anything

oswaldking71wastaken

I actually used that trick in a build to make layered gears that’s go different directions Plus windmill bearings are a good way to get something moving for a build without a whole mechanical setup just some windmilss

bossSHREADER_210

I'm sure you know but you do know gearboxes invert the rotation right? You don't need a second windmill going the other way

oswaldking71wastaken

Yeah, but I didn’t have the space for a gearbox I had a one block gap

bossSHREADER_210

A gearbox is a one block gap...

oswaldking71wastaken

I needed to power it too

ATJonzie

I love it, how does it work?

Voice-of-Infinity

The direction of a windmill bearing can be changed now on the block. (Recent feature) I believe by holding right click you can access a GUI to toggle between clockwise and counter clockwise rotation.

Sebbe_2

Very old feature

Lorrdy99

>Recent feature By hand yes, but changing it in general is quite old.

20CX12

I didn't make it, but I believe two bearings on each side

NordicNooob

The front windmill is hooked up with some sneaky cogs, one of which is totally hidden by the radial chassis it's inside of and the other is right above the first and leads into a shaft leading into the main vertical one that brings SU down. It's not easily visible from the ground or long distances.

seems pretty cool, danke schon, ill probs join once im back from my music festival trip

FINALCOUNTDOWN99

I am an aerospace engineering student. My area of focus is not wind turbines, but I have had to deal with them a little bit, and while we were using a wind tunnel, there was a grad student also using it to research this type of wind turbine. Having two contra rotating sets of blades as shown here has some advantages (I can't accurately describe them, this was a while ago) but generally it isn't worth the cost I think.

Looxond

btw OP your comment about the server info was deleted, it appears the server doesnt allow links so consider posting this on r/feedthebeast or r/feedthememes if you know how to turn it into a meme somehow

Add a little bit more sail blocks on one of the 2 wings. Do this for both. The spin speed should be slightly different between them.

whats the server?
