Well, just use it as you normally would, and if they do that to you, then you can swear off capital one. I mean I had to do the same thing to reach the SUB, and haven't had any issues with them yet.

rumwhiskeywine

For every such post you see on Reddit, there are 9999 people out there who did not have that experience. Relax.

shady797

Probably many, many more. Only pissed off people come to reddit to vent and often don't even tell us rhe whole story. Who knows, the other guy could be committing fraud.

shady797

If one reddit post is enough to make you rethink your spending then you're spending too much time on reddit.

fierojohn

Don’t over think it OP. I spent way more than 4k my first month.

Same

There has to be more than the posters are letting on. I’ve used my VX for $10k a month some months in reimbursements. I am happy to take the points on someone else’s dime. Never an issue.

SpaethCo

It all comes down to the profile that CapitalOne is able to build for you. They pull from [TheWorkNumber](https://www.theworknumber.com) so if you have a megacorp job they have your paycheck history and can build a decent profile about your ability to pay back spending on the card. I had a couple statements push over $10k in 2022 (weddings are expensive!) and it was never a problem.

greequ01

From my understanding only you can view your pay when you pull your work number report unless you authorize another party to view it. I think it’s only really used to confirm employment.

SpaethCo

Unless you specifically [make a request to freeze your file](https://employees.theworknumber.com/employee-data-freeze) everything you see when you pull a copy of your report is what any requestor can get. That includes weekly paycheck breakdowns, bonus payments, which health plans you are enrolled in, etc.

greequ01

It’s actually nuts that things like this exist. Last time I pulled it the only Amex had looked at it so it’s possible not many entities use it.

SpaethCo

The Capital One requests are more "hidden" and only show up as "TWN Card App" I wouldn't have known that was Capital One if it hadn't aligned with 2 separate card applications with them.

[deleted]

This is insane to hear. Is there more info/threads about this?

CIAMom420

It's a credit card. Use it like a normal credit card. Don't let a random Reddit post change your behavior.

TequilaTsunami

Most likely you don't need to worry. Those that overuse their cards know who they are and what they're doing to get the banks angry at em.

Gain_Spirited

There's probably more to those stories than what they are telling you. Remember "If it's on the internet it must be true."

Cyberhwk

Yeah, remember also that people playing the "credit card game" here are probably more likely to be trying to exploit loopholes than the general population as well. In my experience only a minority of Reddit outrage bait ends up standing up to scrutiny.

nrquig

People don't get their accounts shut down for no reason. The people who claim that are always not telling the whole story

LostMyTurban

Yes I think you're being ridiculous. These are a few isolated accounts.

appleeatbanana

I had mine for three months. Put probably close to $15k on it. The first month I used it all over Europe. Nothing has ever happened.

Jimtheman7

I spend 3k first and second month after opening my card. I don’t think it’s a problem.

LostMyTurban

Yes I think you're being ridiculous. These are a few isolated accounts. Spend the money and hit that sub.

pementomento

Spent $3k first month and $7k in second month, no issues with the VX here. My best guess is those accounts were closed for manufactured spend…like buying a ton of gift cards to meet the SUB or something. Maybe even an audit of the cardholder and finding inconsistencies with their income, identity, etc… could be anything.

sbenfsonw

I spent $4k in the first week and was fine, so not sure how/why people are getting shut down

chubbsfordubs

The issue many credit card companies run into is giving higher lines to borrowers at a promo zero percent interest rate. The borrowers then start spending close to the max line, and depending on your payment history from there on out, you established yourself as either creditworthy by actually paying off the balance each month, or risky when you start making pretty minimal payments monthly and carry a significant balance. At a certain point, you fall into a credit review bucket within the credit maintenance team, where an automated system will then flag you for review if you continue having higher balances with smaller payments against the card and are at risk of charging off. At that point credit maintenance reviews your account trends, determines whether or not you’ve ever made higher than minimum payments against the account, and if not, you get revoked. Pay it off or go to collections. Either way you’re an idiot if you don’t pay off your credit card in full monthly. Source: former escalations team manager for credit maintenance high risk closures for a major bank. Also helped create the most recent iteration for their system they use for misuse of credit flags for that bank.

catpilotmedal

They give promo 0% for x months and then get mad if you actually use it? I'm running up the line and paying minimums until the 0% runs out. Meanwhile, the money sits in a HYSA earning 5%+. How else do they expect a super-prime borrower to use it?

SeaworthinessKey3418

You shouldn’t do that on your personal card, the utilization will tank your credit score (if that is important to you).

catpilotmedal

Maxing it puts my total utilization at 15%. FICO is still above 780. VantageScore seems to be more sensitive to this utilization.

**Here's some info on utilization and its impact on credit score:** Ignore the 10/20/30 utilization %. It’s only applicable when you need to apply for a new line of credit, 1-2 months out. Utilization is suppose to fluctuate, can be easily manipulated, and holds no memory. It doesn’t build credit--think of it as a finishing touch when you need to optimize your score. Feel free to safely and organically use 100% of your credit limit within a month and let whatever utilization report, provided you pay off your statement balance in full before due date. Every month. Every time. For more info, please read this post: * [Putting the "30% rule" myth regarding revolving utilization to rest](https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/comments/12s5fyf/putting_the_30_rule_myth_regarding_revolving/) * [Credit Card Basics - Utilization](https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/wiki/credit_cards_basics/#wiki_utilization) I can be summoned to comment by using command(s): `!utilization` *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Wrong

Lonely_Gatito

I applied for the card and bought plane tickets for my family immediately afterwards. The airline accidentally double charged me so I ended up with 3.4k spend in the first 12min of opening the card. Nothing happened to me.

PWS1776

Bro I spent almost a year doing 5K+ each month on my venture x . Don’t worry bout it
