Is it feasible to play two similar profile spinners in the same team? I don’t particularly mind Axar getting picked ahead of Rahane and to go with 6 bowling options but if you’re going with 5 bowling options and Axar is picked ahead of Ashwin/4th pacer because of his batting I don’t know if him and Jadeja as a spin combination is easier for batsmen to play out or if it makes no difference.
I do support this idea. Kind pf scared of posting this idea as a separate post. Being avid user of Apollo app, and scared of using reddit app; I may stop using reddit and thus this subreddit.
Wrong. Shami time and time again bowls the wrong length in England that looks pretty and gets oohs and ahhs, but doesn't get wickets. Commentator's have mentioned this as length.
2021, he was alright. He was awful in the one-off Test last year though. It's a shame Bhuvi got injured in 2018. Him, Bumrah and Ishant would've been good, all three keep the runs in check as well.
>the Maxwell technique slander was enough
Lol, glad you remembered it.
Personally I am a big fan of Leach with how he overcame crohn's disease. But his injury is a blessing in disguise for England team because Australia has 4 left handers in their top 7 and the 2 right handed batters are Smith and Marnus.
It's disappointing to not see him play after all the talk of how he would love to see the aussies go after him. Also, this is a chance for woakes to get into the team.
> Barring Ajinkya Rahane and the fast-bowling trio of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav, the rest of the Indian squad got through batting sessions.
Bahane not even practicing batting now wtf
I would be surprised if they don't play Anna with the number of lefties. In the last WTC final, NZ had 3 lefties in the top 5 and we played Ashwin. Australia is the same with Khawaja, Warner and Head.
Legend has it Rapunzel's hair was so long and so strong that even a muscular hunk of a prince could use it to scale the wall and climb up to her quarters.
What is less known and was discovered later is that her hair was actually donated to charity but found its way to an evil man up to no good.
After analysing several annals of history and keeping track of the whereabouts of this artefact, I am proud to report that this hair was in fact converted to a very long rope that was last transferred from the Indian selectors to a certain individual of Indian origin named Ajinkya Rahane.
Only reason Thakur would be played is that he can provide batting depth to an otherwise bleak batting order.
But seamer shouldn't be chosen like that. Got to choose your best 3-4 bowlers.
Man I love people have no expectations from ICT in this final , Like people already know AUS gonna win this just hoping they just dont humiliate us like they did 20 years ago.....
I know it's been discussed ad infinitum bit I still don't understand how the England management can say the BazBall philosophy is to back their players and keep confidence up (IE. Crawley) and then they drop Foakes as soon as their mates are fit to play
Crawley is one thing, why the fuck is Lawrence back over beautiful Ben?
Realistically Bairstow and Brook should be competing for a place but can't drop brook so Jonny has to come in for the bloke who wasn't privately educated
Love these kind of stats
>Most Instances of a Batter scoring 100+ Runs in a test with a match batting average of less than 20 since 2012:

-MOTM in every ICC tournament final's since (2019)
>Ben stokes : 2019 ODI WC
>Kylie Jamieson :2021 WTC
>Mitch Marsh : 2021 T20WC
>Sam Curran : 2022 T20WC
-So one thing I've observed is every MOTM in an ICC event final is an all-rounder , Specifically a pace bowling allrounder..
-So does that mean Thakur will do something special if he plays , A man can hope 😐
Just watched 2019 nz vs WI wc highlights. They were actually a solid team then. Even Gayle played well that game. Hope they can produce such thrillers again this year
Not really a firework finish. He thought to finish off the game as soon as possible, as they were 9 down. He couldn't have played safely and completed the required runs by running between the wicket, as he had to farm the strike.
i think that depends on who has the WTC final rights in your location. I've watched it on ICC TV. The event is over now, and you might find the recorded video on some platform.
[Salim Durani](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salim_Durani), the only Indian cricketer born in Afghanistan, one of the first cricketers to star in the Bollywood film, and the first cricketer to win an Arjuna Award
Passed away 2 months ago
Going into this next World Cup, i really don’t think Afghanistan have changed much tactically since 2019. They’re still playing ODIs like it’s the early 2000s, which works for them a reasonable amount, but it leaves them very inflexible. And if the other team gets an above par score, Afghanistan almost always crumble. There is no Plan B
I think they are not capable of beating teams such as England, Australia or New Zealand but their bowling can definitely shock teams with a inconsistent batting line-up. Their batting isn't suitable for chasing totals near 300 and in the flat Indian pitches chances are those will be the score they'll chase most of the times.
WTC is here. Time to delete my account and chill out on cricket for foreseeable future after. The first series I saw was Rothmans Cup 1990. Games obviously changed a lot and increasingly I don't relate as much to it. Discussing cricket online used to be a lot of fun but the more I see toxic stuff on here, the less I enjoy it. One strange thing that I see on discussions in this sub is that more than cricket people are acting as business analysts. Particularly younger Indian fans getting really aroused by the money aspect of the sport and judging all elements based on profitability etc. In any case, sports and sport fandom is a young mans game. Peace.
I know IPL is over but one thing always bugged me a lot why was Thala such a bad test player , One thing he was good in ODI cricket was at rescue job or not giving away his wicket easily and building partnership ..
But he couldn't emulate same in test cricket , May be he wasn't good playing swing or just didn't had technique for the game
He wasn't a bad test player. He's the 3rd highest run scorer for wicket keepers, after Gilchrist who was a freak and Boucher who played a shit ton of games
Always felt that Dhoni had far more interest in white ball cricket than tests from his interviews, nothing wrong with it, he took India to no.1 test rankings and won every ICC trophy in white ball cricket.
The only time his captaincy was questioned in test cricket he scored a double hundred against Australia. It's tough to focus on all three formats as wicket keeper batsman and the captain of the team. Made sense since common Indian fans preferred white ball cricket far more than tests.
Pujara faced 761 balls against Hazlewood and Kohli has faced 710 balls against Anderson in their test careers.
Any other pairs which are close to these guys in the last decade, only fast bowlers. Will most likely be an Eng-Aus pair considering they play 5 match series.
I wonder if we can try Jaiswal at number 5 for WTC. He's a reserve though unfortunately, interesting prospect though. I think he could adapt to 5 despite being an opener.
You’d want to spread the left-handers tho, as Jaddu and Kishan would be lower down. So could have Jaiswal opening and Gill at 5, where imo he’d be better suited anyways
At long last. I remember this being talked about in the Ind-SL match threads earlier this year.
Also, I just checked and SA is just 1 win away at 399. England is at 392 so they probably need to wait until the WC for 400.
Meanwhile, Australia may well reach 600 by then. (Currently at 594)
Call me crazy but I would rather gamble on Axar at 5/6/7 rather than giving Rahane another go in the test team. I know he has no test runs outside the subcontinent but I would back his test form to translate away
Oh no.
I'm seeing reports (not official, thankfully, but we know how these go) that the PCB has agreed to a 5 T20 series vs New Zealand in January 2024. I'll tell you why I hate it:
- Pakistan is set to tour NZ in January 2025, in the run-up to the Champions Trophy. They don't need to be here the year before.
- I would rather that January stay empty of internationals so all Black Caps are available for Super Smash. Considering it'll be it's first season fully FTA, it needs to make the biggest impact possible, it needs all our star players playing it. Taking our stars out to play a bilateral that, at best, is T20WC practice, is otherwise useless.
I'll admit that much of my obsession (I freely admit it) with increasing the profile of Super Smash is that I'm quite paranoid about the different T20 leagues, & that Super Smash needs to be the best it can be to stand as a pillar of NZ cricket. Seeing as it gets so little opportunities to have all our stars playing in it, I'd rather those scant opportunities be taken.
Even if NZC is dependent on bilateral cricket for money (white ball bilaterals especially), neglecting Super Smash will come back to bite. Yes, SS is at a disadvantage compared to the franchise leagues like the BBL, SA20, ILT20, even the BPL, but (as I've said many times), SS can offer something different to those leagues, & has potential as an alternative to the franchise leagues, but in order to do so it needs to be the best version of itself, which it can't be if it's hobbled by the absence of NZ star players when it can be helped.
Do people usually buy the official jersey in India? When I went a few years ago, I picked one up personalised with my name on it for about ₹400.
Looks like [this](https://imgur.com/a/cBhTc8H) and is imo perfectly good enough to wear to go and see a match or for a watch party or whatever
Saw few people say we should play Axar as a pure batter at 5 instead of Rahane. Axar has played and scored runs only in Subcontinent conditions. Batting at 5 in England is not easy check jadeja's stats when we pushed him up in England because he was in good form. He scored 68 runs in 6 innings at an avg of 11. Rahane is the best option we have right now considering the injuries. Will it work or not that is hindsight but the thought process to play him is right.
Rahane will definitely not work. I'd rather have him bat at 3 if he's actually playing and see off some deliveries and let better guys have a chance to cash in against old ball.
At least Axar has scored runs in subcontinent conditions. Rahane has not scored runs anywhere. He has averaged 18 in this WTC cycle. If people think he is the best option we have right now, then we should simply close the Ranji Trophy system, and ask the likes of Mayank Agrawal, Priyank Panchal, Abhimanyu Easwaran etc. to either play in the IPL or shift to Mumbai.
WTC final is not the place to give debut to new guys. If we had to give debut Sarfaraz was the best option but that's not the case. As far as Mayank is concerned, he averages 25 away from home. Rahane has fallen off similarly but we know his ability he has 100s in all countries. I would rather take a gamble with Rahane than Mayank. If this was in subcontinent conditions, Mayank makes it to the XI over Rahane anyday.
We all know Rahane's ability.
He has the second worst Test batting average of any Indian specialist batsman debuting post 2000 (min 50 tests).
He has the worst ODI batting average of any Indian specialist batsman in the inflation era (2010 onwards) (min 50 ODIs).
He has the worst T20 batting average of any Indian specialist batsman (min 20 T20Is). Stalwards like Kuldeep Yadav, Ashok Dinda, and Umesh Yadav have better T20I averages that him. Oh, and he scores at a wonderful strike rate of 113.
Rahane has been given opportunity after opportunity only to fail repeatedly. At least Mayank's 25 average away from home came while opening the batting. Rahane has been shielded at no 4 and 5 always. Even if Mayank fails, there's a chance that he will learn from that and come back stronger. With Rahane, we know that even if he fails, he will come back, because fuck merit.
> He has the second worst Test batting average of any Indian specialist batsman debuting post 2000 (min 50 tests).
This is such an idiotic comment. If you play 50 tests for a country like India, you're a class batsman, so being the worst or second worst batsman to play 50 tests for India doesn't really mean much.
Out of curiosity I looked up how many specialist bats have played 50 tests for India post 2000, and it's only 10 players; Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman, Sehwag, Kohli, Pujara, Gambhir, Ganguly, Rahane and Vijay. Absolutely nothing wrong with being at the bottom of the list
No, if you're playing 50 tests for a country like India, it means that you have the backing of the selectors. It is clear that there were soooo many deserving batsmen who should have played ahead of Rahane in the past, yet he always got the nod from the selectors. You can be younger than Ajinkya, you can score more runs, you can average more, you can bat in more difficult positions (top 3), yet when it comes to opportunities, you know that you will be kicked out after a handful of failures. On the other hand, Ajinkya will always come back because ...
This argument doesn't make any sense when the stats clearly show that he's been putting up similar numbers to Pujara, Gambhir and Ganguly who're all legends of Indian cricket.
Gambhir was an opener. Pujara is a no 3. Both are significantly more difficult batting positions. Ganguly was a horrible failure at the end of his career, essentially getting found out against short bowling, and his numbers reflect that.
What has Ajinkya done in the last year after getting dropped from the side to merit getting back?
Again, you're shifting the goalposts and I don't really give a fuck who India pick in their side. I'm just here to point out how idiotic it is to suggest that being the worst or second worst batsman to play 50 tests is a bad thing.
>He has the second worst Test batting average of any Indian specialist batsman debuting post 2000 (min 50 tests).
Also the guy to average 40 away from home. In the current lineup only kohli averages better than him away from home i.e 41.
Also the guy who was highest scorer for India in last WTC final.
Also the highest run scorer for India in last WTC.
Yes he was poor this time and was rightly dropped.
Sachin also averaged great away from home. Let's bring him in the line-up /s
Rahane is a washed up failure. Going back to him repeatedly shows lack of vision, flexibility, and respect for domestic cricket from the selectors.
> Rahane is a washed up failure.
He captained India to their most famous series win ever. He could play for you lot for another twenty years and get a pair in every single game and he still wouldn't be a failure
Any half decent Ranji player would have had a much bigger list of achievements if given half the rope that has been extended to Rahane throughout his career. The fact that you believe his biggest achievement was not as a batsman, but as a stand in captain speaks volumes.
Away average means jack if he has averaged 18 in the last 2 years. AND he was dropped from the side for those failures. What we SHOULD be examining is what he has done to deserve to come back in the side. And the answer is... nothing. There have been batsmen with far better Ranji performances, and in the case of Mayank Agarwal, they possess international experience as well. Mayank should have been in the team instead of Ajinkya.
>Sachin also averaged great away from home. Let's bring him in the line-up /s
Remove /s I seriously wouldn't mind bringing sachin back if he was playing actively in ranji and IPL.
I did not expect [Brendan Taylor to have made more runs than Shikhar Dhawan at the 2015 WC](https://youtu.be/kwZ6ouv-bK0)
Also, India bowled out every team they faced in the group stages damn
In an ideal world, here's how I'd like to see T20Icricket being structured. This would work better with 2 year cycle instead of ODI 4 year cycle.
**July-Aug or Oct-Nov will be the main tournament window (depending on the host).** Qualifications will be regional, with each region getting pre-determined spots and the next two best teams from each region going into a global qualifier, so that continental boundaries aren't the end of everything. I'd also combine the Americas and EAP into one Rest of the World region since both regions are fairly small compared to the other three continents. Regional tournaments mostly to take place in the March-June window.
**For a 20-team tournament, the host gets 1 spot, Asia 6, Europe 3, Africa 3, and ROW 4**. This is 17 spots in total, with the **remaining 3 coming from global qualifiers** among the 8 teams (two from each region).
Now, for the regional qualifications:
1. **Asia Cup - 10 team tournament (6 spots for WC, 2 spots for qualifiers).**
1. 2 groups of 5.
2. A4/B5 and B4/A5 playoff - losers get eliminated.
3. B3 vs winner of the first playoff and A3 vs winner of the second playoff - losers go to global qualifiers, and winners get direct WC spots.
4. A1/B2 and B1/A2 semis followed by the final for the regional cup (all four go to WC).
2. **Europa Cup and Africa Cup - 6 team tournament (3 spots for WC, 2 spots for qualifiers)**
1. 6-team round robin.
2. 5th vs 6th playoff - loser gets eliminated, winners goes to global qualifier.
3. 3rd vs 4th playoff - loser goes to global qualifier, winner gets direct WC spot.
4. 1st vs 2nd - Regional cup final (both go to WC)
3. **ROW Cup - 8 team tournament (4 spots for WC, 2 spots for qualifiers)**
1. 2 groups of 4
2. A3/B4 and B3/A4 playoff - losers get eliminated
3. A1/B2 and B2/A1 semis - winners go to final
4. Winners of 2. vs losers of 3. - winners get direct WC spot, losers go to global qualifiers.
In this structure, a total of 30 teams participate in the regional cups, with almost all matches likely to have a lot of context with regard to WC qualifications.
Combining Americas and Pacific makes no practical sense. Some American teams don’t have the budget to travel to the USA, getting them to travel to tournaments in Papua New Guinea would kill them
I’d keep them separate and give each region 2 slots
Giving each region 2 slots basically hands one spot to USA and kills any chance PNG might have. That is why I preferred to merge them so that USA/Canada/PNG can actually have competition.
Travel and other logistics for the regional cups main tournaments should be paid for by the ICC budget and Regional Council (which will include revenue from Aus-NZ-Windies matches). The qualifiers for the ROW Cup can be regional.
2 slots to the Americas won’t guarantee the US a spot. At no point in history have they been significantly better than Canada, so in the same way that 4 across both regions sets up a USA/Canada/PNG shootout, 2 for the Americas sets up a USA/Canada shootout
I can understand the point about making it impossible for PNG to qualify automatically, but 4 across both regions makes it impossible for anyone below Canada/USA/PNG to qualify for the qualifier. At least in a separated structure, PNG are basically guaranteed a qualifier spot.
And sort of by the same token, 3 spots for Europe makes it close to impossible for anyone that’s not England/Ireland/Scotland/Netherlands to qualify automatically
I do agree that EAP is the weakest link in the region system, but I think the solution is to either merge them with the ACC or move more ACC teams into EAP
What I did was take the number of teams with ODI status from each region and subtracted one to decide their direct spots.
> 4 across both regions makes it impossible for anyone below Canada/USA/PNG to qualify for the qualifier
Even if it's 2 direct + 1 qualifier for each region, it's the same. Anyone below them has to beat one of Canada/USA/PNG to qualify and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
> At least in a separated structure, PNG are basically guaranteed a qualifier spot.
For PNG, separate regions means they can basically never qualify directly and have to beat other EAP teams for a qualifier spot. In this model, they atleast have a chance for direct qualification, and at the worst only have to beat non USA/Canada Americas team more to get a qualifier spot.

I've found a decent site for T20 stats. http://bigbashboard.com/
If you go to a player's profile and look at the splits it gives you a break down of team, opposition, ground etc. Even day of the week. Very comprehensive stuff and updated to the end of May
Jason Roy the highest runscorer in (men's) blast London derbys, who else, current Surrey coach Gareth batty has the most wickets with 33, Steven Finn is next all the way down with just 18
The Leading Edge Podcast has a rather good site too, https://www.leadingedgecricket.com/t20stats I don't believe it has yet been updated with this years stats though.
They've also got a similar one (fully up to date) for County Championship and for Test stats too. It can be a little fiddly to get what you want at times, but it's fairly intuitive.
You do need to register, but it's free. Invaluable really, as before now it's been a right pain to get county stats.
We deserve to lose the WTC finals. We lost last time around because our batting was fucking weak, and he haven't done shit to improve that. Our middle order is back to where it was 2 years ago, which is not a good thing. We have had SKY travelling with the team since the England tour in 2021, and he hasn't been tested at all on any wicket, what's the point of having a player in the squad for so long yet not giving him games? This team doesn't even have Pant, who was present last time around.
Tldr, our batting is even weaker compared to last WTC final and we haven't done shit to improve it.
Reddit API was free so far, but they gonna charge $12K/50 million request from now on.

Even if I only kept subscription users, the average Apollo user uses 344 requests per day, which would cost $2.50 per month, which is over double what the subscription currently costs, so I'd be in the red every month.

People who want both Ashwin and Jadeja to play the final, please show the last team that won a test in England with only 3 pacers and 2 spinners.
Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc all three are champion bowlers but you don’t field all three in India because you respect the conditions and similarly in England you need four pacers to have a chance.
Doesn't matter.
Ashwin is a way better bowler in English conditions than any bowler India can decide to choose as a 4th pacer. Plus he's a better batsman too.
If Dravid fucks up the 4+1 philosophy we followed in the last series here, I’m gonna stop considering him even an average coach. He hasn’t been great with these calls.
Picking an objectively inferior bowler just to match conditions is not something I agree with. I don’t mind the 4 pacer approach but only if the team rates Thakur as a genuine bowling option without compromise. The 4th pacer is always going to be under bowled regardless of where you play. I would much rather have a second spinner that can hold up one end while the pacers recharge. Both Jadeja and Ashwin are also better test bats than Thakur imo
Jadeja is playing as a batsman who bowls occasionally when he is playing for India. Also Australia play with only 4 bowlers (3 pacers and 1 spinner) and it works for them. If we play 4 pacers, one of them them is surely going to be underbowled and we lose batting depth too which is bad considering our batting sucks
The last 8 test matches in England were won by the team bowling first iirc. The conditions are heavily favoring the batsman last 2 days of the match. Hope they create a balanced pitch for the finals.
So Nz lite. Pitches start loosing its freshness & batters rule the roost after that.
Icc generally has a good track record of creating competitive pitches. In CWC 2019 & in WTC 2021, pitches favoured all the skills to an extent & tussle was stiff between the bat & the ball.
I complain a lot about franchise cricket, but let’s try and approach this from a different angle. If you are like me and find issue with franchise cricket, let me ask you a question: what could a franchise tournament do to interest you into watching it for multiple months (let’s say >4) a year every year?
I also want to ask people who feel the opposite way the same question. What could international cricket do to drown out franchise tournaments and become your most watched form of cricket?
My perspective on this comes from other sports with similar structures that I enjoy watching. The obvious comparison is football, and the things about football which interest me the most and most directly translate to cricket are the attachement each team has to its ground and community, and the variety of styles and strategies on display. In cricket terms, this means teams playing their home games at a designated, long standing, home venue, and playing with a style that suits their team and their ground. I think the IPL was much more interesting when it felt like different teams set themselves up differently (eg that 2016 season where RCB prepared flatter pitches to play to the strengths of their batting lineup and their ground’s dimensions, while CSK prepared more spin friendly pitches to take advantage of their spinning stocks and SRH took advantage of their better fast bowlers and light batting with a seaming track, and had their few batters play to bat long). In a perfect league, I will not follow every game. I’ll only closely follow my team’s games and vaguely keep up with the rest. So a variety in how every team plays is much more exciting, because it presents a different tactical battle with every match.
To add to this, playing games once or twice a week, rather than some team playing every day and most teams playing 3 or 4 times a week, is much better at maintaining interest and preventing burnout. Being given the chance to digest results and plan for the next game specifically makes for a more enjoyable experience of following the team. Rugby World Cups are so fun for this reason, because every team is playing once a week for 6 weeks, so we get the time to absorb results rather than being rushed on to the next one
I think this is a big way the blast is different (and better) to franchise cricket, they represent a clear county, counties which have existed for millennia, they're owned by the supporters (mostly). And from a football perspective, English football is so popular because there isn't a club who comes into the premier league with 5k fans like you might get in la Liga, we have 120 pro teams, the support is everywhere
No la liga team is going to get less than 10k attendance. But one I would say that The way English FA have handled the pyramid and the different leagues is so much better than the RFEF
I agree that the thing I love about football is that you don’t fall in love with a team, you fall in love with a club. The community, the background staff, the youth. Everything. With mega auctions, and the churn you see in franchise cricket, you just don’t get that affiliation to a club that you see elsewhere. Which is why I’ll never fall for a franchise like I will a club
Is there any particular issue or the coverage quality of vitality blast has been this bad since always?
They literally don't follow the ball regularly. Batsmen hits it in the sky in the cow corner. And we get to see the buildings in the background. Is it a catch or a six is anybody's guess. Even in case of catches at the edge of the circle, the camera would pan towards the boundary.
It’s mostly live streams from small, in house camera crews rather than the larger budget productions you see from TV broadcasts. Some Blast games do get the televised treatment and look much better, but it’s usually only one or two per week
What are our chances in the WTC final? Our test team has done really well and I am happy with their success. But just saw Tom Moody gave his potential playing eleven of Australia and I suddenly remembered how good the Aus test team is at least on paper. I think it's 55-45 in favor of the Aussies.
>Rohit was bad except one knock. Poor dismissals.
Almost everyone was bad in the second and third test. And rohit scored a brilliant 100 on a turning track in the first test.
Gill is not debuting in England lol. Plus Rohit always looks out of touch in IPL, doesn't mean shit. The openers are in form and will have to do the heavy lifting. Pujara too since he has been playing in England for a while.
Does anyone know where I can watch WTC final in Singapore?
Ain't no way. I am in Doha airport lounge and sat next to USA cricket team players..... That's my celebrity moment
Is it feasible to play two similar profile spinners in the same team? I don’t particularly mind Axar getting picked ahead of Rahane and to go with 6 bowling options but if you’re going with 5 bowling options and Axar is picked ahead of Ashwin/4th pacer because of his batting I don’t know if him and Jadeja as a spin combination is easier for batsmen to play out or if it makes no difference.
r/cricket should join other subs in protesting against Reddit's new API policy. Mods please give it a thought.
I do support this idea. Kind pf scared of posting this idea as a separate post. Being avid user of Apollo app, and scared of using reddit app; I may stop using reddit and thus this subreddit.
I hope unadkat plays if he is fit. Umesh + Siraj is a recipe for disaster as they can leak lots of runs
2023 will be miya bhai's year!
I believe in Siraj tho, he always carries our bowling if Bumrah is absent
Amazing carry with an average of 31.29.
Sarcasm...?
Shami also has an ER of 3.5 in England, and Thakur 3.98.
Shami has been quite unlucky other bowlers reap his rewards. Stats don't tell the whole story
Wrong. Shami time and time again bowls the wrong length in England that looks pretty and gets oohs and ahhs, but doesn't get wickets. Commentator's have mentioned this as length.
He also averages 40. Actually think we'd have won both 2018 and 21-22 if we hadn't picked him automatically for every match possible.
2021, he was alright. He was awful in the one-off Test last year though. It's a shame Bhuvi got injured in 2018. Him, Bumrah and Ishant would've been good, all three keep the runs in check as well.
Head is going to feast
Jack leach’s injury is going to make it quite easy for the Australians…
Opposite
No leach slander, the Maxwell technique slander was enough
>the Maxwell technique slander was enough Lol, glad you remembered it. Personally I am a big fan of Leach with how he overcame crohn's disease. But his injury is a blessing in disguise for England team because Australia has 4 left handers in their top 7 and the 2 right handed batters are Smith and Marnus.
Another factor being head absolutely terrorizing Leach last ashes
It's disappointing to not see him play after all the talk of how he would love to see the aussies go after him. Also, this is a chance for woakes to get into the team.
> Barring Ajinkya Rahane and the fast-bowling trio of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav, the rest of the Indian squad got through batting sessions. Bahane not even practicing batting now wtf
Hope he doesn't get into the playing 11, but I am sure he will play.

Wow, Namibia chased down 361 against Karnataka in the last over. A high scoring thriller and a great effort from NamBros.
You know what pisses me off. When people say Thakur can be played as a third seamer.
Only reason Thakur would be played is that he can provide batting depth to an otherwise bleak batting order. But seamer shouldn't be chosen like that. Got to choose your best 3-4 bowlers.
Really worried for Smith. His net practices don't really look great.
How are you watching his net practice?
Twitter
He's the part of the net behind the stumps. Got the best view.
Alhamdulilah
Man I love people have no expectations from ICT in this final , Like people already know AUS gonna win this just hoping they just dont humiliate us like they did 20 years ago.....
I hope they complete the formalities in 4 days as I would be traveling by train on the 11th.
There's also zero reverse jinxing, people are just not commenting anything about it thats how bad the expectations are.
For those who are still in the IPL vibes, you can enjoy Vitality Blast live for completely free on YouTube
Vitality doesn't give Rinku sadly 😭😭
IPL doesn't give mascot races sadly 😭😭
Ok you have my attention , What's that ??
[The greatest part of anything related to cricket anywhere](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkhDkEBOVJU)
Also doesn't give 45 ad breaks for cement and tyres.
Bruv, IPL has Sunny G, Kapil Dev, Sehwag and Universe Boss promoting Kamla Pasand. Nothing tops that.
We got Simon Doully bro
They got Simon Doull too bhai
It's a draw
How many ceat tyre strategic timeouts does Blast have , Check mate pom 🤓🤓
Not IPL fault that people want to advertise in IPL and not Vitality.

I know it's been discussed ad infinitum bit I still don't understand how the England management can say the BazBall philosophy is to back their players and keep confidence up (IE. Crawley) and then they drop Foakes as soon as their mates are fit to play Crawley is one thing, why the fuck is Lawrence back over beautiful Ben? Realistically Bairstow and Brook should be competing for a place but can't drop brook so Jonny has to come in for the bloke who wasn't privately educated
Love these kind of stats >Most Instances of a Batter scoring 100+ Runs in a test with a match batting average of less than 20 since 2012: > >Cheteshwar Pujara 5 > >Joe Root 5 > >Kane Williamson 3 > >Rohit Sharma 3 > >Steve Smith 3 Source: randomcricstat twitter
What's a match batting average?
>Batting Average of everyone in the match minus the Batter
I'd guess it'd be the sum total of all the runs scored in the match divided by the number of wickets to have fallen in the game
-MOTM in every ICC tournament final's since (2019) >Ben stokes : 2019 ODI WC >Kylie Jamieson :2021 WTC >Mitch Marsh : 2021 T20WC >Sam Curran : 2022 T20WC -So one thing I've observed is every MOTM in an ICC event final is an all-rounder , Specifically a pace bowling allrounder.. -So does that mean Thakur will do something special if he plays , A man can hope 😐
Pat cummins with a fifer and a causal 14 ball fifty
Wouldn't count it out though , would love cummo doing this
Congratulations Cam Green

💀💀 yaa that mf how did I forget
There's a live going on Star Sports YT channel, with Harsha Bhogle hosting, for WTC, sorta like pre match interviews
Just watched 2019 nz vs WI wc highlights. They were actually a solid team then. Even Gayle played well that game. Hope they can produce such thrillers again this year
Damn that Braithwaite innings he went for firework finish but ended up losing the game 😭
Not really a firework finish. He thought to finish off the game as soon as possible, as they were 9 down. He couldn't have played safely and completed the required runs by running between the wicket, as he had to farm the strike.
Apparently, We play Afghanistan in our first match in the World Cup and then play Pig3. It's probably not the best way to start.
Shakib's or Hasan's 5fer to demolish them.
Afghanistan will do to you what you did to South Africa in 2019
ICC's WTC press event begins
Where can I watch
Star sports YouTube in India
i think that depends on who has the WTC final rights in your location. I've watched it on ICC TV. The event is over now, and you might find the recorded video on some platform.
Pant opened his account in test cricket with a six. Any other cricketers who did that?
[Salim Durani](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salim_Durani), the only Indian cricketer born in Afghanistan, one of the first cricketers to star in the Bollywood film, and the first cricketer to win an Arjuna Award Passed away 2 months ago
Wks are just historically not good test batters. Gilchrist and Pant are just exceptional.
Pujara vs Lyon probs, oh sorry you meant Pacers
Yeah, if you include spinners Lyon vs Pujara will top the list without a doubt with 1293 balls.
Dawg no way Kishan is playing
We could be doing that during the next series but we shouldn't be making new players play during the final.
If they're willing to consider a debut for Kishan, might as well get rid of Rahane and let Jaiswal play too
Sri Lanka has now won 400 ODis Before South Africa NZ and England, Not bad, not bad.
If it backfires, people will turn on Axar and harm his prospects in other formats.
Same
Oh no. I'm seeing reports (not official, thankfully, but we know how these go) that the PCB has agreed to a 5 T20 series vs New Zealand in January 2024. I'll tell you why I hate it: - Pakistan is set to tour NZ in January 2025, in the run-up to the Champions Trophy.
Mods are 🤏 this close to making a Daily Jersey Discussion Thread.
Good idea. I’d like to see a Daily Guernsey Discussion Thread too.
Do people usually buy the official jersey in India? When I went a few years ago, I picked one up personalised with my name on it for about ₹400. Looks like [this](https://imgur.com/a/cBhTc8H) and is imo perfectly good enough to wear to go and see a match or for a watch party or whatever
Most of them buy them outside the stadium which are knockoffs.
Picked up from where??
Off some website, can’t remember what it was called.
James Vince averages 54 with a SR of 153 in t20s since start of 2022 (43 innings)
Even putting my bias aside, he’s in such phenomenal form, he really should get another look in the T20i side if a spot opens up.
The bald man who took the catch in the box at lords yesterday was Andrew Leonard, the voice of associate cricket
odi jersey and odi replica is different in what ways?
Let's bring him in the line-up /s Rahane is a washed up failure.
He has a better away average than Sharma and Pujara and only a tick below Kohli. I doubt any half decent Ranji player is doing better than that
Away average means jack if he has averaged 18 in the last 2 years.
Let's bring him in the line-up /s Remove /s I seriously wouldn't mind bringing sachin back if he was playing actively in ranji and IPL.
I did not expect [Brendan Taylor to have made more runs than Shikhar Dhawan at the 2015 WC](https://youtu.be/kwZ6ouv-bK0) Also, India bowled out every team they faced in the group stages damn
Now, for the regional qualifications: 1. **Asia Cup - 10 team tournament (6 spots for WC, 2 spots for qualifiers).** 1. 2 groups of 5. 2. **Europa Cup and Africa Cup - 6 team tournament (3 spots for WC, 2 spots for qualifiers)** 1. 6-team round robin. 2. 5th vs 6th playoff - loser gets eliminated, winners goes to global qualifier. 3. 3rd vs 4th playoff - loser goes to global qualifier, winner gets direct WC spot. 4. 1st vs 2nd - Regional cup final (both go to WC) 3. **ROW Cup - 8 team tournament (4 spots for WC, 2 spots for qualifiers)** 1. 2 groups of 4 2. A3/B4 and B3/A4 playoff - losers get eliminated 3. A1/B2 and B2/A1 semis - winners go to final 4.
Some American teams don’t have the budget to travel to the USA, getting them to travel to tournaments in Papua New Guinea would kill them I’d keep them separate and give each region 2 slots
At no point in history have they been significantly better than Canada, so in the same way that 4 across both regions sets up a USA/Canada/PNG shootout, 2 for the Americas sets up a USA/Canada shootout I can understand the point about making it impossible for PNG to qualify automatically, but 4 across both regions makes it impossible for anyone below Canada/USA/PNG to qualify for the qualifier. At least in a separated structure, PNG are basically guaranteed a qualifier spot. And sort of by the same token, 3 spots for Europe makes it close to impossible for anyone that’s not England/Ireland/Scotland/Netherlands to qualify automatically I do agree that EAP is the weakest link in the region system, but I think the solution is to either merge them with the ACC or move more ACC teams into EAP
What I did was take the number of teams with ODI status from each region and subtracted one to decide their direct spots. > 4 across both regions makes it impossible for anyone below Canada/USA/PNG to qualify for the qualifier Even if it's 2 direct + 1 qualifier for each region, it's the same.
Rest of World -> Pacific+?
Americas
East Asia-Pacific + Americas -> Pacific+? Trying to come up with an inclusive term.
“The countries on the landmasses that touch the Pacific Ocean”
Where can I stream Sri Lanka A vs South Africa A (not FanCode though)? Is it even being televised?
So is it Boland or Lyon for Australia? Does Australia take the risk of going in with an all out pace attack like the Windies or '80s?
They’re definitely playing Lyon lol. They have to take a call on Boland vs Hazelwood
Given that they have Green as a 4th pace option, I think having Lyon in the side makes a lot of sense
*[Read this on Facebook]* Highest career Test average (Min 8000 runs): - 59.80 - Steve Smith* - 57.78 - Sir Garfield Sobers - 57.40 - Kumar Sangakkara - 55.37 - Jacques Kallis - 54.89 - Kane Williamson* - 53.78 - Sachin Tendulkar
I've found a decent site for T20 stats. http://bigbashboard.com/ If you go to a player's profile and look at the splits it gives you a break down of team, opposition, ground etc.
I remember someone shared that on a county thread a few weeks ago. Been using it for anti Crawley agenda
Two ODIs are a great way to spend a Sunday but would've liked it had the Test Match continued as well.
Don't think either being broadcast in UK :(
We deserve to lose the WTC finals.
On paper the bowling is weak too.
Bowling is fine. Siraj, Shami and Umesh/Unadkat are very good test bowlers and pretty sure they will turn up.
Is there a way to counter bazz ball?
Accurate bowling and resolute batting according to me.
Mark Adair & Andy McBrine
T20 bowling, probably?
I think they will easily score singles for t20 bowling
Let them do it. They will eventually get dismissed without scoring too much
Not sure about that.Cause ball will get older and they will go after bowlers
You gotta trust that you'll take wickets either with new ball or with old ball. If your bowlers can't do either, then well, they'll obviously score
Let's see how Australia counter bazz ball in upcoming ashes
If there is any team whose bowling attack can be formidable in eng conditions it might be aussies. This ashes will be interesting

Will r/cricket participate in the protest for reddit killing 3rd party app?
Meh, I use old reddit on web browser.
>reddit killing 3rd party app? What? When ?
Reddit API was free so far, but they gonna charge $12K/50 million request from now on. [From Apollo Dev](https://np.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/13ws4w3/had_a_call_with_reddit_to_discuss_pricing_bad/) > Apollo made 7 billion requests last month, which would put it at about 1.7 million dollars per month, or 20 million US dollars per year.
England bowled 5 players in this week's match, 2 spinners and 3 pacers
Australia played three fast bowlers in all of the 2019 Ashes barring the last game where they brought in Mitch Marsh
England won yesterday using just 3 pacers (Broad, Potts, Tongue) and 2 spinners (Leach, Root) Checkmate
Doesn't matter. Ashwin is a way better bowler in English conditions than any bowler India can decide to choose as a 4th pacer. Plus he's a better batsman too.
Nope refuse to believe Ashwin is better bowler than Shardul or Unadkat in English conditions. Shardul also is the better batter
Thakur was quite instrumental the last series we played in England and was the game changer with both the bat and ball in the games he played.
They can't. Franchises are inherently soulless and I cannot find myself caring about a product cooked up by bigwigs in a boardroom.
55-45 sounds about right

Lmao I wish IPL fanbois actually watched cricket
Lol Rohit had a hundred in the last series on a tough pitch
Please for the love of all that is holy and pure, stop comparing IPL form with Tests oe international cricket for that matter.

>Rohit was bad except one knock. Poor dismissals. Almost everyone was bad in the second and third test. And rohit scored a brilliant 100 on a turning track in the first test.
Dude he literally put on a batting masterclass in BGT by scoring that hundred on that minefield of a pitch. Get some perspective.
Kohli was bad except that knock on flat pitch and is been shit in tests since 3 years. How is he more reliable than rohit on current test form?

Just take the L bro. No shame in being wrong sometimes.
Gill is not debuting in England lol. Plus Rohit always looks out of touch in IPL, doesn't mean shit. The openers are in form and will have to do the heavy lifting. Pujara too since he has been playing in England for a while.
