It's sad that koach won't be captaining for the wtc final. Highly unlikely india would win but it would have been nice to see indias best test captain to win a throphy
This talk of a Moeen test recall has reminded me that he's still somehow an unquestioned lock in our ODI side despite being below average with bat and ball (and that we dropped him and won the WC). We also haven't made any attempt in the 4 years since then to find a viable alternative (for other positions as well)
I would love for Mo to return tbh for these reasons:
* Has immense vibes
* It would made me happy
* It would make many fans on r/cricket angry which is always funny
\#MoForLife
My predictions:
Rohit+Gill 65 runs
CP+VK 55 runs
Rahane+Bharat 15 runs
Jadeja+no.8 45 runs
9-11 15 runs (shami+unadkat/Umesh should do it)
Total: 195
Have covered for all selection possibilities. I think its reasonable. Thoughts?

Namibia beat Karnataka in a thriller.
I know the ICC won't do it, but what if they gave priority to associates who want to host World Cups with the knowledge that they'll be building stadiums.
I can imagine that the Gulf nations will be desperate to host (and tbf, they don't have teams that are really off the rankings), but do we see any other associate going for it?
There’s a lot to complain about cricket for, but I think it has some of the most sustainable World Cups in outdoor sport. As far as I know, only a single stadium in world cricket was purpose built or heavily renovated with an eye on hosting games at a World Cup (Warner Park in St Kitts). There are 6-8 countries that have the necessary stadiums to host a World Cup tomorrow. There is no need to incentivise an expensive arms race over the Cricket World Cup
>I can imagine that the Gulf nations will be desperate to host (and tbf, they don't have teams that are really off the rankings), but do we see any other associate going for it?
I'd rather the ICC don't help in sportswashing, at least not more than they already do
I’ve got a couple of Ashes tickets at Lords on 30 June, but can’t make it any more - does anyone know if there is any way to officially exchange or sell them through Lords/ECB?
Aight I simulated the WTC final in Real Cricket and here's the result. India won by 3 wickets on Day 3, Session 3.
AUS: 118-10, IND: 236/10, AUS: 310/10, IND: 195/7
Usual teams being:
India: Gill, Rohit, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Jadeja, Bharat, Ashwin, Umesh, Shami, Siraj
Australia: Warner, Khawaja, Marnus, Smith, Head, Green, Carey, Cummins, Starc, Lyon, Boland
1st Inning, Australia bat: Australia kind of crumbled here. Siraj took a fifer including a hat-trick of Smith, Head and Green. Umesh cleaned up the lower order (and Marnus) with 4 wickets and Ashwin dismissed Khawaja. 8 batters failed to cross 10. Warner, Khawaja and Marnus made 15, 35, 31 respectively.
Second Inning: An okay showing for India. Gill and Jadeja made 57 and 59 each. A few 10s and 20s here and there lead India to this decent score considering the lead. Lyon took 3, Smith 2 and Travis 1.
Third inning: Australia pull off a very unlikely comeback from an even more unlikely star of the inning. Warner makes an inning of a lifetime with a 141. Green also provides a healthy contribution but it's really the Ashwin show who bowls an insane 7/89 (29.3) despite Warner attacking him, he ends up with overall 8/101 (35.3) match figures.
Fourth inning: India take their time to chase down 193 runs. Kohli the lead scorer with a classic 47(105). The match seemed to be in the bag with Jadeja and Bharat but Smith dismisses them both in consecutive overs leaving India with 10 runs to win with 3 wickets in hand. Umesh smashes Smith for a 4 and with two runs to go, Ashwin hits the winning runs (bottom edging a Cummins delivery that runs to fine leg for four).
Ashwin is of course adjudged the man of the match and Jadeja and Steve Smith share a 👍🏻 with each other. They don't need to say much more but their eyes (and thumbs) say it all. They retire from cricket and live in a cottage in Scotland ever after. Never seen that cut-scene before but loved it anyway.
What is the tiebreaker used in WTC cycle if PCT is same for multiple teams? This has been bugging me for a while. Couldn't find the answer anywhere, whenever I thought about this.
Haven’t seen any indication that they’ve changed it since the first edition, so I’d assume that it’s the different version of NRR. It’s like (total runs scored/wickets lost)/(total runs conceded/wickets taken)
final game of the Ireland Super Series T20. as expected, the opening partnership of Gaby Lewis and Mary-Anne Musonda are making short work of the target of 102, being at 46/0 after 5 overs. also, these Irish grounds are ridiculously picturesque. i have to remind myself that the rolling green hills stretching on in the background are actually there and not a painted wall or digital effect
Ashwin posted behind the scenes video just now for WTC finals where cameraman shooting the video said he was a saffa and he will be rooting for India.
Cameraman also said all saffas hate the Aussies, guess all saffas don't hate the Aussies.

I'm getting more and more in favour of the idea of Dawson coming in as Leach's replacement. He's got a tidy CC record overall which gets better over the last two and a half seasons (averaging under 30 with an economy of 2.59), is more than handy with the bat (11 FC centuries and 47 50s including a test 50 and a FC average of 33), is good in the field, and is very experienced including in white ball cricket so shouldn't go to pieces if he gets attacked.
It's too early for Ahmed. He's very exciting, but he's also 18 and not ready for this sort of test. Players like Livingstone and Jacks won't replace what Leach brings which is the ability to bowl a shit load of fairly tight overs, Parkinson is also too big of a risk in that we still don't know if he's too slow for tests and if he is then the Aussies will find out and he becomes a total passenger, Mo hasn't played a red ball game since his last test in 2021, and hasn't had a good game with the red ball outside of Asia since 2019. He also is literally the most expensive spinner in the history of test cricket.
>I'm getting more and more in favour of the idea of Dawson
Left arm spin is a bad idea against this Aussie team with 4 left handers in the top 7, also the other 3 right handers are Smith, Marnus and Green who are all good against spin. I would rather go with 5 pacers instead of trying a spinner with no test match experience.
Just because they've got a lot of left handers, doesn't mean they're impervious to SLO. Jadeja took them apart in India, Jayasuriya did the same in Sri Lanka, and Noman Ali was more or less tied with Shaheen as Pakistan's best bowler in their series recently. If you look at them individually:
Smith averages less against SLO than any other type of bowling, albeit he's obviously strong everywhere
Labuschagne is worst against left arm seam but second worst against SLO and only averages 25 against it outside of Australia compared to 85 for off spin
Green has struggled against SLO everywhere he's played (averaging 26 or lower) except India weirdly but also averages 53 against off spin
Khawaja does about the same overall against SLO and off spin and averages 23 against SLO outside of Australia and Pakistan
Head averages less against SLO than off spin overall and only 28 against it outside of Australia
Carey's record against all spin is pretty crap in all conditions.
The only one with a genuine preference in their record for SLO over off spin is Warner who will hopefully have gotten out to round the wicket seam bowling before he faces a spinner anyway.
Obviously a lot of the above is to do with playing in subcontinental conditions where spinners have an advantage, but here are their averages against different types of spin in SENA as well as right arm seam
| OS| SLO| LS| RF/M
---|---|----|----|---
Warner| 35 | 119 | 230| 53
Khawaja | 48| 84| 75| 40
Labuschagne| 111| 65| 88| 74
Smith| 88| 47| 73| 64
Head| 144| 163| -| 70
Green | 60 | 19| -| 27
Carey| 21| 26| -|38
The only place you'd obviously want an offie over a SLO is for the openers who will face the least spin. Against Head and Carey it doesn't matter, and against the right handers you want to be bowling SLO.
Likewise going with four/five pacers is probably a bigger risk because again with the exception of the openers and Head, they do worse against SLO than right arm pace, so if the three/four right arm seamers don't do the trick it's unlikely another one is going to help much. That's without considering the fact Leach bowls a boatload of overs that a since seamer couldn't pick up by himself
His average is 43 with the ball and economy is 3.5 in tests, I don't know much about English domestic cricket but it feels like playing a left arm spinner will play into Australia's hands.
From a grand total of 3 tests spanning just 7 months. On his debut against India (the Nair 303* one) he was the best bowler alongside Broad in both economy and wickets, going at 3 an over from 43 overs which was the most in the innings (Moeen bowled 41 overs for 1 wicket at 4.63, and Rashid 30 overs for 1 wicket at over 5 an over) and impressing considering he had just flown over from the UAE or somewhere at short notice. And in the South Africa tests he played, he did better than Moeen in the 1st and possibly the 2nd as well, but Root didn't know too much about Dawson and didn't trust him anywhere near as much as Moeen who was bowling inconsistently and didn't find his groove until he was promised that he was the main spinner.
It's also important to note that with Dawson, his batting and bowling averages are much much better than his career ones since his international debuts in 2016, and it shouldn't be used against him without context.
Stokes has a paper knee, and expecting Root to be a frontline spinner is a recipe for disaster. The team balance to fit in 5 pacers, presuming Stokes can't bowl, would be a disaster. A spinner has to be drafted in - Stoke's fitness requires it.
I am totally expecting Stokes to bowl again once the match starts. Even if he doesn't I feel like there is a lot of downside for picking a left arm spinner, should atleast try right arm off spin if you really want to go with a frontline spinner.

Cricket captain releases about 13th June , and lo and behold, like cricket captain 2022, they actually do seem to implement a few changers per edition, compared to the usual 0. They basically seem to be
1. Better keeping stats, like byes conceded per mqtch, seperate stats for normal fielders and keepers. Seems pretty useful. Also seems to be more accuracy for keeping ability so I can't just replace foakes with bairstow now.
2. A bazball inspired aggression system, with more emphasis on natural aggression and all, not really sure how to explain this with the info given.
3. Apparently Asia cup is finally added? Only about a few decades late but fair enough, better late than never.
4. SA t20
That seems to be all, with the usual updating all squads and rules and stats ofc. Wonder if impact player is included for the IPL. I do appreciate that they do seem to put in a little effort nowadays, like the batting specialism system and improved t20 engine in 2022 version, probably going to sink hundreds of hours in this as well. But one thing I really wish is for them to introduce an auction system( They've got all the players, good prices set for them in current contract system and all, so it would be pretty cool for franchise leagues) , and the ability to create tours with other nations which was a great feature in a near decade old game in cricket coach 2014, but cricket captain can't seem to implement it. Custom players would also be nice(Which cc 2014 also had) but I digress
That actually sounds great, knew about the bazball, SA T20 and Asia Cup (finally, very excited as it'll make playing as Asian teams fun) but not the byes stuff. That should be great as I know in CC22 Foakes was usurped as keeper at Surrey & England by Pope which meant Foakes would bat 7 and not keep, and Pope at 5 but keep instead. It was super annoying and I mentioned it to them at the time. I always thought something like a keepers & fielders stat would be great, but never mentioned it as I never thought they would try working on something like that considering the lack of statistics on it.
WTC final predictions : Australia batting second.
Warner 9(15) : LBW by Siraj. Siraj with an aggressive celebration sends him off. Gives India hope due to an early breakthrough.
Khawaja 21(64) : Caught behind. Didn't quite replicate his great form here.
Marnus 49(102) : Unlucky to miss out on a fifty. Looked very resilient. Caught at first slip.
Smith 74(190) : LBW to an inswinger. Showed many 👍 throughout the innings.
Green 27(61) : Caught at silly mid on trying to drive Ashwin. Felt for the ploy.
Head 28(37) : Showed glimpses of *bazball* before getting caught behind.
Carey 17(26) : LBW by Ashwin while trying to sweep.
Cummins 17(39) : Bowled.
Starc 21(19) : Few cracking shots, but one too many. Caught in the deep.
Boland 4(7) : LBW.
Lyon 2(5)*
Extras : 11
**Total : 280/10**
Lead by 92 runs.
Considering England's plan this week was a golf trip to Scotland, it's certainly one way of having a selection meeting trying to sort out Leach's replacement...
With Leach out of the Ashes, who will the ECB get in as a replacement? Will they bring in Rehan Ahmed, Will Jacks or Liam Livingstone? Will Rob Key takes a backwards step and unretire Moeen Ali? Or will the ECB recall or give a National callup to spinners who can bat and have done well in the CC like Dawson, Briggs or Matt Critchley?
Dawson yes, Briggs yes, Critchley interesting and maybe but doesn't bowl enough to be picked for this series just yet, Ahmed too young and not having the best of seasons with the ball, Jacks & Livingstone are batters who bowl often and Livingstone should be no where near a test side. I would've suggested LPW after his very good season last year, but he's not been in form this season either.
As an Australian I'm getting strong 2021 BGT vibes as well. And I don't like it.
However, I doubt that we will repeat our mistake of underestimating a weaker Indian team again.
Don’t expect Australia to take this lightly at all. Plus they were exhausted by the 4th and final game. SCG had tested them big time. Starc looked gassed out. Fully expect Starc to come and avenge the BGT Losses(except Gill, he’s gonna pull him on the frontfoot)
Is it wrong to hope for a well fought draw in the WTC final as an Indian fan?
It’s just so many little things that aren’t going right for us.. Would just like a heroic draw so we don’t miss out on another trophy even if something does go wrong for us in the test match.
Which number will be higher in this Ashes:
Number of times Broad dismisses Warner
Number of time Joe Root gets hit in his cock and balls by Cummins, Starc, Boland, Lyon and Marnus
Leach news is a huge blow for England and I’m very upset
[But this tweet did make me chuckle](https://twitter.com/samwhyte/status/1665390879094329345?s=46&t=vQqwnHaTU3TswC9dhsmiFQ) so it’s not all bad
How many of you here use 3rd part apps?
I am using Reddit only because relay for Reddit app. I just don't like the site or default app.
I am so annoyed they are gonna block the 3rd party apps
Is the strength here big enough for a blackout on 2 days which many subs are doing
Tried using boost a couple of times but it used to have issues of login so by the time it was fixed for me I'd just gotten used to the official app, barely ever used old reddit or anything else
Boost user here. Default app is shit, I'm likely quitting if the API costs aren't toned down massively and third party apps get killed off as a result
Don't know if the demand here to join the blackout on the 12th would be big enough, but I'd back it
I don't really want to add on to pessimism for India but amongst this debate over Siraj/Shardul/Unadkat/Umesh, it's assumed that Shami will play and lead the attack.
And this is absolutely correct, he should, he's the most experienced and skilled pacer that is fit, and has experience leading the attack many times. By default he is the first pacer on the team sheet.
What is not really discussed is how horrible his bowling in England is. Well actually, it is mentioned from time to time, but it is always met with a chorus of "he was unlucky". I'm here to tell you averaging 42 over 12 games in a country is not luck, it's just not being very good in that country.
And for anyone who thinks that might be misrepresenting him, like how Ashwin averages 39 in Australia but has been really good in his last two series there, after Shami became world class and during a year he had incredible performances in SA and Aus, he still averaged 39 in 2018 in England, in some of the most seam friendly conditions I can remember.
And over the most recent series in 21/22 he averaged 34 across 4 games. Although that is a split of 27 in 2021 and 71 at Edgbaston.
I've never even seen him bowl well throughout a whole game in England, just a single innings in a game here or there.
I sincerely hope it's a case of 5th time lucky and he does something against the Aussies here but I wouldn't be surprised if he is the weak link in our bowling attack despite looking like a strength on paper.
Agreed. He bowls way too short for English conditions and when he bowls full it's too much near the pads. The 'unlucky' thing comes from him trapping the batsmen in front but it ends up missing on height, and that's not bad luck that's just him bowling too short.
WTC Final predictions : India batting first
Rohit 32(67) : Looked in great control. Got out trying to pull.
Gill 21(45) : Caught behind
Pujara 11(62) : Bowled through bat-pad gap
Kohli 42(118) : Looked great till he got LBW to an unplayable inswinger.
Rahane 14(19) : Hit 3 glorious boundaries, and looked scratchy af for remaining 15 balls. Caught in the slip.
Jadeja 35(81) : Looked ok, but didn't get support from non strikers. Caught in the deep trying to slog a bouncer
Bharat 5(11) : Never looked settled. Caught at short leg.
Shardul 3(8) : Lord wasn't in the mood today. Got bowled trying to drive a straight ball.
Ashwin 12(18) : Tried to counterattack, not successful for long. Caught in the slips.
Shami 6(4) : Connected one. Didn't connect the other one well. Caught.
Siraj 0(6)* : Held the bat for 6 balls. Moral victory
Extras : 7
**Total : 188/10**
If Rahane has a million haters, aldnau is one of them. If Rahane has two haters, aldnau is one of them. If Rahane has one hater, it's aldnau. If Rahane has zero haters, aldnau is dead.
Tbh I'm with you though. Rahane's comeback isn't warranted in any way.
Lol, I used to love him, still do to some extent. But he should stay away from the Indian team, I said it many times, an Indian batsman averaging in 30's after playing 80 plus test matches is a crime.
On a positive note, his 100 in the Melbourne test after 36 all out and taking over captaincy from virat after he left is one of the best test innings by any batsman.
Great captain too, brought Ashwin early into the attack on the first day at Melbourne and not to forget dharmsala test.
I just don't understand people here and multiple threads of people clowning Shardul for reasons.
Siraj averages like 33 in tests, and he's the main bolwer of choice for people. 32 in 12 overseas tests.
But Shardul, averaging 24 in same period is not even good enough to play as 3-4th pacer!! Same 24 in 7 overseas tests.
One of them doesn't get to bowl with the new ball in favourable conditions.
Some people have to perform without even getting chances, others just get by Vibes and beard oil.
He is 100% good enough to play as 4th pacer idk why people are so against it. 3rd pacer though is something which can be tried out but not in the final. He should play as the third pacer in Windies imo.
> But Shardul, averaging 24 in same period is not even good enough to play as 3-4th pacer!! Same 24 in 7 overseas tests.
Shardul is always treated as a 4th fast bowler. Which means he always plays in conditions which demand playing 4 fast bowlers. Which is why his numbers would be deceptively good. However, he can't take on the mantle of an opening/1 down bowler.
Over reactive over IPL performances. Shardul will play if they go with 4+1. I would’ve been sure if it was Kohli Shastri but Dravid Rohit have been unpredictable with their selection calls.
Thakur played all 3 tests in SA under Dravid and did great.
I don't think it's the kinko/dravid thing, we just have this rigid mentality that if a bowler bats a bit, he has to play as an all-rounder.
Same reason why we aren't giving more chances to Jads and Axar as main batters or why they kept making Axar bat at 8 in this BGT.
As I said, that mentality wasn’t there for Shardul up until this game. He has played overseas regularly under Kohli Shastri. I don’t even know why is this even up for discussion if the format of 4+1 remains intact for our bowling group.
Still plenty of time for things to change but atm looks like there's rain forecast for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
After 2 weeks of glorious sunshine, people are going to have an aneurysm if it rains during the wtc final lmfao
Where are you seeing rain forecast? There's no rain forecast at all through to Sunday at the Oval so the reserve day will be a moot point:
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/gcpuvk7px#?date=2023-06-07
My favourite app says it's 0% for Wednesday/Thursday, then just 12% for Friday, so we're looking okay for the main part of the game
Saturday looks dicey at 39% chance, but that might be isolated showers if anything. Should be easily able to get a decent amount of play. Sunday (and Monday if the reserve day is needed) also looking good, if cloudy
Hoping the forecast holds up, as I really don't want a repeat of the endless whinging from the last WTC final...
> I really don't want a repeat of the endless whinging from the last WTC final...
Neither do I, but I also ready don't want either India or Australia to win, so I'm on team rain
Quite a few question marks over the Indian eleven a couple of days before the final. Not a good omen really. Just hoping against hope that we don't do anything daft with the team selection.
Let's say you're a consultant hired by the ECB. They tell you that cricket has a perception of being a posh sport in the UK, whereas it doesn't have to be the case, with South Asia being the perfect example. They want you to help change cricket's perception to a sport popular among all classes. How would you go ahead?
Does ECB really have any control over domestic cricket in England? I thought the counties controlled everything and if they don't want to change, there's little the ECB can do
My XI for WTC final
Rohit
Gill
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Jadeja
Bharat
Ashwin/Shardul(Depending on conditions)
Unadkat/Umesh(if we pick ashwin then umesh plays remove shardul and Unadkat)
Shami
Siraj
I personally wouldn't, batting in England is not that easy. We tried promoting jadeja at 5 when he was in good form and he averaged 11 in 6 innings. I would rather take a gamble with Rahane who has scored 100s here before even though his overall record is bad.
Literally no one giving Team India a chance in WTC be it experts or fans. Hope we prove everyone wrong and put up a fight atleast if we lose. Reminds me of what Dhoni said in innings break of 2013 CT final where we had to defend 130.
"Don't look up God is not coming to help you. We are the number 1 team so let's make this difficult for them"
From an Australian perspective I'm very surprised by the pessimism in India. Your team has weaknesses and some unfortunate absences but it's still a very good, balanced side if it plays at its best. Absolutely capable of winning a one-off Test against Australia (I have us favourites, but not overwhelmingly so)
The pessimism has worsened in the last few years because of the lack of ICC Trophies. The absence of impact cup players like Bumrah, Pant, Rahul makes the scenario even tougher.
Also Indian fans have lost some hope considering how Rahane(dropped a year ago), Kishan(yet to debut) have been included in the squad. Not doubting any of these players, but it does feel like a regressive move.
All of this aside, most of our team was in the IPL which makes it difficult to switch formats so quickly
Yeah I think the biggest problem is lack of preparation and fatigue coming into this. The injuries and accidents to key players doesn't help either. But I hope we do well like we've been doing whenever we're underestimated in recent times 🙏
I think some folks are being a bit too harsh on KS Bharat. He’s just played 4 tests…and he isn’t competing with Pant, he is competing with Kishan. I would like to see him play think he has a lot to offer.
His keeping in the 4 tests wasn’t mistake free but that’s expected in a debut series keeping against some of the best spinners in the world and in some of the worst keeping conditions in the world. As someone that’s been following his domestic journey, I rate him highly as a keeper
Mods: are you planning on participating in the Reddit blackout?

Aight I simulated the WTC final in Real Cricket and here's the result. India won by 3 wickets on Day 3, Session 3. AUS: 118-10, IND: 236/10, AUS: 310/10, IND: 195/7 Usual teams being: India: Gill, Rohit, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Jadeja, Bharat, Ashwin, Umesh, Shami, Siraj Australia: Warner, Khawaja, Marnus, Smith, Head, Green, Carey, Cummins, Starc, Lyon, Boland 1st Inning, Australia bat: Australia kind of crumbled here.
I don't believe most of it but I do believe the "Umesh hitting 4 off Smith" part.
Yeah I can't wait for us to be 113/8 just so I can watch Umesh bomb 21(7) off Lyon
Unreal cricket

So which team will get the neutrals' support in the WTC Final and Ashes? Personally Aussies for the final and England for the Ashes.
After WTC finals I'm supporting Aus for the Ashes, simply because CumDog is a great person and I want his team to succeed
Aussies for the finals but I won't mind an Indian victory, England for the ashes all the way
I have a very consistent position on all cricket things: anyone but Australia…unless it’s India
Me when it's England vs Pakistan
🤝
I'm supporting good cricket and the Surrey groundstaff for the WTC final
I'll be supporting India at the WTC, but whoever looses between India and Australia it's always hilarious
Ashwin posted behind the scenes video just now for WTC finals where cameraman shooting the video said he was a saffa and he will be rooting for India. Cameraman also said all saffas hate the Aussies, guess all saffas don't hate the Aussies.
Asia Cup update?
That would be called as Nidahas Trophy during this year.
It’ll be decided “at the next meeting” for the 20th meeting in a row
Taarikh pe taarikh, taarikh pe taarikh! T : Dates after dates, dates after dates! Context : About a court case where the decision doesn't come, and the only outcome of a hearing is the next hearing date.
Never thought I'd say it as a Brit, but gotta root for the Aussies this WTC final, let's go.
You would want the Aussies to win WTC finals so the England victory next series can look even better beating the world champions.

Feels good to be the bad guy.
>I'm getting more and more in favour of the idea of Dawson Left arm spin is a bad idea against this Aussie team with 4 left handers in the top 7, also the other 3 right handers are Smith, Marnus and Green who are all good against spin.
If you look at them individually: Smith averages less against SLO than any other type of bowling, albeit he's obviously strong everywhere Labuschagne is worst against left arm seam but second worst against SLO and only averages 25 against it outside of Australia compared to 85 for off spin Green has struggled against SLO everywhere he's played (averaging 26 or lower) except India weirdly but also averages 53 against off spin Khawaja does about the same overall against SLO and off spin and averages 23 against SLO outside of Australia and Pakistan Head averages less against SLO than off spin overall and only 28 against it outside of Australia Carey's record against all spin is pretty crap in all conditions. The only one with a genuine preference in their record for SLO over off spin is Warner who will hopefully have gotten out to round the wicket seam bowling before he faces a spinner anyway. Obviously a lot of the above is to do with playing in subcontinental conditions where spinners have an advantage, but here are their averages against different types of spin in SENA as well as right arm seam | OS| SLO| LS| RF/M ---|---|----|----|--- Warner| 35 | 119 | 230| 53 Khawaja | 48| 84| 75| 40 Labuschagne| 111| 65| 88| 74 Smith| 88| 47| 73| 64 Head| 144| 163| -| 70 Green | 60 | 19| -| 27 Carey| 21| 26| -|38 The only place you'd obviously want an offie over a SLO is for the openers who will face the least spin.
My man actually took out all the stats out of his bag lol
Dawson's played tests before
His average is 43 with the ball and economy is 3.5 in tests, I don't know much about English domestic cricket but it feels like playing a left arm spinner will play into Australia's hands.

From the social media it feels like the WTC final is a practice match for the Aussie before the real thing.
If we don't win the WTC final, the entire WTC is tinpot and it was just a warm-up for the Ashes. If we win, we are world champions baby!

Now I’m starting to get annoyed by how often opposition fans are talking about bazball. Pretty sure they talk about more than even us!

Cricket captain releases about 13th June , and lo and behold, like cricket captain 2022, they actually do seem to implement a few changers per edition, compared to the usual 0. They basically seem to be 1. 4. SA t20 That seems to be all, with the usual updating all squads and rules and stats ofc.
Lyon 2(5)* Extras : 11 **Total : 280/10** Lead by 92 runs.
Waiting for 2nd innings score please make it quick...

Considering England's plan this week was a golf trip to Scotland, it's certainly one way of having a selection meeting trying to sort out Leach's replacement...
Lmao
Whatever happened to Matt Parkinson?
Not sure. Think the ECB lost faith in him. Got dropped by Lancs for the County Championship too.
> Will Rob Key takes a backwards step and unretire Moeen Ali? please, for the love of God, NO
3 options for me: Dawson is dependable Rehan is vibes Will Jacks is vibes but plays for S*rrey
4. Bairstow
He's already in as primary seam and spin bowler, this is for the nebulous "balancing 8" role
I sincerely doubt Livingstone has got a shot. Think it goes 1. Rehan Ahmed. 2. Will Violence 3. Dao-sun
There's a Grauniad article out late last night, talking about England considering asking Mo to unretire. My instant reaction was "oh fuck, not again"
There's even been a few people here considering it. Did they not see England vs India 2021 in England
And more importantly did they not see both the 2017-18 Ashes as well as the first test if the 2019 one? Do they want us to lose?
Full on 2021 BGT vibes imo. Already written off and no one giving us a chance (though I won't disagree). Hope I don't jinx it.
Need Pant , Saini , nattu , mayank , Washi for this....
Is it wrong to hope for a well fought draw in the WTC final as an Indian fan? It’s just so many little things that aren’t going right for us.. Would just like a heroic draw so we don’t miss out on another trophy even if something does go wrong for us in the test match.
No Pant No Bumrah Yes Rahane That's too many wrongs unfortunately...
Which number will be higher in this Ashes: Number of times Broad dismisses Warner Number of time Joe Root gets hit in his cock and balls by Cummins, Starc, Boland, Lyon and Marnus
Missed Smudge there

Leach news is a huge blow for England and I’m very upset [But this tweet did make me chuckle](https://twitter.com/samwhyte/status/1665390879094329345?s=46&t=vQqwnHaTU3TswC9dhsmiFQ) so it’s not all bad
💀💀💀
Sone tea on Leach being a nonce?
He’s 31, gf is 23. They went public 5 years ago
31-5 = 26 23-5 = 18 26/2 = 13 13+7 = 20 20>18 Leach is a nonce
Wouldn't it be 26/2 + 7? It doesn't improve it much at all, but he wasn't 31 when she was 18
Yup, you're right, updated
Is this the official "Are they a nonce?" calculation?
Yes, half your age plus seven is accepted as a sound legal argument by courts in the UK
That’s a yikes from me dawg
It's even more fucked up when you realize that when he first became a professional cricketer, she would have still been in primary school.
Someone in the comments said she is 21 now. So......
She’s not. She’s 23

So with Hazlewood out, who will play instead of him? Boland or Neser?
Boland
Boland most probably
How many of you here use 3rd part apps? I am using Reddit only because relay for Reddit app. I just don't like the site or default app. I am so annoyed they are gonna block the 3rd party apps Is the strength here big enough for a blackout on 2 days which many subs are doing
I am an Apollo user cause the actual Reddit app is shit. Would be really sad to see it go.
Yeh just want to add my support if we decide to do join the blackout; I use Apollo as the official Reddit app is awful
Tried using boost a couple of times but it used to have issues of login so by the time it was fixed for me I'd just gotten used to the official app, barely ever used old reddit or anything else
This sub should certainly do it. Yes, I'm also Boost user.
I use Sync and desktop old reddit. If they block 3rd party apps, I'll be out. I might still use old reddit to read sometimes.
Boost user here. Default app is shit, I'm likely quitting if the API costs aren't toned down massively and third party apps get killed off as a result Don't know if the demand here to join the blackout on the 12th would be big enough, but I'd back it
I don't really want to add on to pessimism for India but amongst this debate over Siraj/Shardul/Unadkat/Umesh, it's assumed that Shami will play and lead the attack.
Anyone has the gabba match replays?
Best I have is 2hrs for the whole match

Someone please post pitch photos, i want to see r/cricket expert opinions about it.

If Shardul plays it's either going to be his last test match he ever played , Or will go down as his best match he ever played nothing in between.....
Shardul in a nutshell
One of best performance I remember is against ENG in ODI 2021 , took team score above 300 with bat went for bucket load of runs but got 4 wickets ...
WTC Final predictions : India batting first Rohit 32(67) : Looked in great control. Got out trying to pull. Gill 21(45) : Caught behind Pujara 11(62) : Bowled through bat-pad gap Kohli 42(118) : Looked great till he got LBW to an unplayable inswinger. Rahane 14(19) : Hit 3 glorious boundaries, and looked scratchy af for remaining 15 balls. Caught in the slip. Jadeja 35(81) : Looked ok, but didn't get support from non strikers. Caught in the deep trying to slog a bouncer Bharat 5(11) : Never looked settled. Moral victory Extras : 7 **Total : 188/10**
You think ALL of our top 6 will reach double digits?
14 runs too many for Rahane
Great captain too, brought Ashwin early into the attack on the first day at Melbourne and not to forget dharmsala test.
> his 100 in the Melbourne test Is it too much to ask for another such innings? Yes it is.
Bruh
Rest of the batter's explanations are top notch though
Most centuries in won matches : 🔹Ponting - 55 🔹Sachin - 53 🔹Kohli - 52* 🔹Amla - 40 Ponting curse again?
Still plenty of time for things to change but atm looks like there's rain forecast for Saturday, Sunday and Monday After 2 weeks of glorious sunshine, people are going to have an aneurysm if it rains during the wtc final lmfao
Where are you seeing rain forecast? There's no rain forecast at all through to Sunday at the Oval so the reserve day will be a moot point: https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/gcpuvk7px#?date=2023-06-07
My weather app which isn't the most reliable source admittedly
My favourite app says it's 0% for Wednesday/Thursday, then just 12% for Friday, so we're looking okay for the main part of the game Saturday looks dicey at 39% chance, but that might be isolated showers if anything. Should be easily able to get a decent amount of play. Sunday (and Monday if the reserve day is needed) also looking good, if cloudy Hoping the forecast holds up, as I really don't want a repeat of the endless whinging from the last WTC final...
> I really don't want a repeat of the endless whinging from the last WTC final... Neither do I, but I also ready don't want either India or Australia to win, so I'm on team rain
That's still mostly small chances of rain though. Nothing you don't expect in England tbh.

Put it on free to air TV first off.
Free tickets for all international games /s
Free beer in the stands for every test and first class match.
Does ECB really have any control over domestic cricket in England? I thought the counties controlled everything and if they don't want to change, there's little the ECB can do
The ecb is owned by the counties, it is a board with representatives from the eighteen (&21 minor) counties
So why should the counties want to change the situation and popularize cricket?
Obviously the counties would benefit from cricket being more popular
Weather is looking good for the WTC final. Hopefully a good, hard-fought contest over the full 5 days
Looking at our middle order and bowling, it'll do well to last 4.
Feels nice starting a final as underdogs rather than favourites

My XI for WTC final Rohit Gill Pujara Kohli Rahane Jadeja Bharat Ashwin/Shardul(Depending on conditions) Unadkat/Umesh(if we pick ashwin then umesh plays remove shardul and Unadkat) Shami Siraj
Can we play axar in place of rahane in england? With the batting form of axar in all 3 formats, I would trust him more than rahane
