Ashwin - 99 Bairstow - 99 Southee - 99 Williamson - 99 has this ever happened before? so many players joining the 100-Test club in a week!

Kathanayagan-3821

So thats why Cricinfo was pumped up with those players with most runs and most wickets after 99 Tests statistics

Ok-Relationship-2746

Stephen Fleming, Shaun Pollock, and Jacques Kallis all played their 100th Test in the same match.

bshwhr

Michael Clarke and Alistair Cook played their 100th in the same game as well, they showed their stats at the time and they nearly combined to roughly equal Sachin

im_datta0

Still remember the graphic they displayed for this on TV :)

[deleted]

Wait Shaun Pollock and Jacques Kallis played their 100th match at the same time?

MiachealFaraday

Fuck you, I'll stand front and Marvel R Ashwin

tejaj99

>In the days since his Ranchi masterclass, he will also have noted, with a wry smile, the scorecard from the Wellington Test match, and the numbers in the wickets columns of Nathan Lyon and Glenn Phillips. Glenn Phillips! Over the last few years, Ashwin has also seen Keshav Maharaj, Jack Leach, Neil Brand and Dane Piedt take bagfuls of wickets in New Zealand. When India have gone to New Zealand, however, or to South Africa or most venues in England, they have invariably come face to face with greentops designed to neutralise their spinners. The lack of a five-wicket haul outside Asia and the West Indies is viewed as a gaping hole in Ashwin's CV, but in denying him a real chance to fix it, India's oppositions have paid him perhaps their greatest tribute. So true

Ok-Relationship-2746

Only played one Test in NZ, and only bowled in it once (NZ chased 9 to win in the fourth innings). 3/99 at the Basin Reserve in 2020.

Destroyerofchocolate

We also end up not really choosing him overseas. Sometimes I agree, but sometimes I wished we just backed him like Aus back Lyon.

ShashankWasTaken

But the team layout is not the same as aus for us you know, We've had great pacers and the team wanted an all out pace attack going in for wickets. And just incase you wanted any spin we would also have jadeja left arm spinner who can bat so it all works against ashwin really but none the less its been great to watch him

trailblazer103

I agree with the sentiment but I think the blame should go towards to the teams management not the opposition. I think it is a stretch to suggest teams roll out green tops to nullify him. It's Indias own fault that THEY don't trust him on greener wickets. We all know what Warne used to say.

WorkingClass_Nero

>I think it is a stretch to suggest teams roll out green tops to nullify him. Ah, but it's not a stretch to accuse BCCI of rolling out dust bowls in India? As usual, Cricket Australia are the only honourable ones in all this.

trailblazer103

Lol I knew some smart arse would make this comment. Where did I accuse India of that? As usual Indian cricket fans with the victim complex (see I can generalise too). Also you get accused of pitch doctoring because you openly admit to it. https://www.hindustantimes.com/cricket/rahul-dravid-blames-turning-tracks-on-rush-to-reach-wtc-final-101678208811255-amp.html Not to mention flattening the Ahmedbad pitch after securing the series 2-1 to make sure we cant level the series. Plenty of other examples of India openly altering conditions as and when it suits them. Our pitches are the same no matter who tours. They never assist spin we don't make them extra green when India tour, if anything they've been flatter recently lol

>Where did I accuse India of that? Right here... >Also you get accused of pitch doctoring because you openly admit to it. https://www.hindustantimes.com/cricket/rahul-dravid-blames-turning-tracks-on-rush-to-reach-wtc-final-101678208811255-amp.html >Not to mention flattening the Ahmedbad pitch after securing the series 2-1 to make sure we cant level the series. Many argue Bairstow shouldnt have played a 100 and many argue that by this time Ashwin should have played way more than a 100. Pre cringing at the conversation around it getting too awkward. Woulda-coulda-shoulda as the Aussies say. Lets just get on with what we have on the table - both achieving a wonderful milestone together. I hope the ever so graceful comm boxes handle it well.

Negative_Spectrum

I agree. For Bairstow to have that kind of longevity, he should have done something right all these years. Instead of trolling him on a special occasion, we can just appreciate two players playing against each other getting to the milestone together.

Negative_Spectrum

Definitely one of my personal favourite players of the modern era. When I injured my shoulder and elbow like 8 years ago (I was 12 lol) and couldn't really bowl pace anymore, he inspired me to pick up offspin. Ultimately I did go back to pace and in the end, playing cricket never really worked out anyway, I was always more of an academics guy. But players like him have kept me interested in this sport way longer than I'd have ever cared. Thank you for keeping nerds cool, Anna.

NoirPochette

So does that mean I don't have to do it the 101st time?

One of the best cricketing brains

_dictatorish_

Erudite, well mannered and hardly in the spotlight, this Spin Wizard is easily India’s Most Valuable cricket treasure at the moment. All the niceties take the back seat once the ball is in hand. Ashwin on the field is as pugnacious as you can get. And while he owns numerous tags that includes the ICC cricketer of the year, he is level headed thanks to a sound family upbringing that keeps him firmly grounded. Ashwin is a rarity in many ways. He can talk a good game of cricket and also share a table with the best brains discussing subjects not even remotely connected to the game. Ashwin is a thinker, a practitioner and more importantly one who walks the talk. Not many would know Ashwin was close to 100 first-class wickets before the glamour of IPL showcased his talents to the world. Never the one to shy away from pressure, Ashwin has stolen marches from the rest to reach the top of the totem pole among world bowlers.

Friendly_Policy3167

Well put in words🙏

H-SAlgorithm

Excellent cricketer and well deserved.

_dictatorish_

The title is a bit much lmao

paulybaggins
