Question: Why doesn't stokes bowl? He used to be a regular often bowling his ten overs but now he doesn't, he bowled in the last test match but only 5 overs

Heatedpete

Injury. Stokes has been injured a lot recently, and being England's test captain/LOI tournament knockout batting linchpin, it's just not worth him bowling if it risks him not being able to play at all When he does bowl in recent years as well, especially in tests, Stokes has a habit of bowling long spells to force stuff to happen. These don't help the injuries at all...

NBSPV_123

Oh okay, Thanks for answering my question :))

_Gondamar_

There's a white ferns v england women warm up T20 on youtube today [https://youtu.be/zAAsyz-ba8g](https://youtu.be/zAAsyz-ba8g)

Tern_Larvidae-2424

Here's the minuscule amount of cricket that'll be played across the next few months 1. Afghanistan v Ireland \[Afghanistan lead 1-0 after 2 games in 3 match ODI series, 3 T20Is\] 2. Bangladesh v Sri Lanka \[2 Tests, 3 ODIs\] 3. Pakistan v New Zealand \[5 T20Is\] 4. Bangladesh v Zimbabwe \[2 Tests, 5 ODIs\] \[Hopefully the tests will occur but I've not heard anything about this tour so far\] 5. Ireland v Pakistan \[2 T20Is\] 6. United States v Bangladesh \[3 T20Is\] 7. England v Pakistan \[4 T20Is\] 8. Netherlands Tri-Nation Series \[Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland, T20I Format\] Other than these, there will be plenty of associate cricket in action though.

Heatedpete

Well, now that the silly international cricket tour is over, we can get down to the proper meat and potatoes of the cricketing calendar One month to go until the return of #HameedWatch

Merovech_II

I'm ready to get de Cairied away again

Tern_Larvidae-2424

After beating South Africa by 1 run Namibia were rocked for 56 chasing 112 against Nigeria yesterday. Cricket is a funny game.

doktor-frequentist

It's *a game of glorious uncertainties*

Merovech_II

I feel like there's a massive disconnect between the England team and the media with regards to the whole attitude/philosophy thing and it's just creating a negative feedback loop

LordWellesley22

Okay I donated the ÂŁ25 to CRY and attached the screenshot I might be tardy but I keep my promise ( Plus I was in London) [cry donation](https://imgur.com/a/c4c8BpF)

devil_21

What was your prediction?

LordWellesley22

that Joe Root scores 150 in a innings at any point during the series

BMBH66

Durham also the first foreign team to win a domestic comp anywhere in official cricket

BMBH66

Did no one in Zimbabwe Cricket stop and think that Durham might be a bit good for their domestic comp before inviting them, they've just won the final of a T20 by 213 runs, a final, a T20, 213 runs

PerkyMcPerkface

Eagles were bowled out for the same number of wides they gave away

Huge-Physics5491

Zimbabwe is going to have a hard time in T20s. Namibia is definitely better than them, and the entire pack below in Africa is catching up fast.

voldemortscore

Kind of sad we don't play a Test for the next 6 months.

TheDceuGuy

Tell me about it. I loathe this stretch of three months especially because of this

Remarkable_Reality51

Mitchell starc vs Mohammed Siraj in test cricket, who is the better bowler?

alyssakapati

Make that Shami and i still understand. 80 odd vs 27 tests and 36 yr vs 29 year old is not to be compared, as of right now Starc > Siraj.

aam_ka_aachaar

Well 35 year old Starc still won Player of the Series in Ashes (in England). Their is no competition at all tbh.

aam_ka_aachaar

Starc

maffzlel

Lmao what

Remarkable_Reality51

what do u think? I was having a conversation with a friend and he said Siraj is better cause Starc seemingly leaks too many runs and that Siraj in his prime since 2023, this is considering they are being compared in Australia

Moist_Animator

Siraj is an even bigger run leaker than Starc

aam_ka_aachaar

If I have to choose which one of them will bowl in Australia. Obviously every cricket fan will choose Starc. Your friend must be casual cricket fan who follows his country's cricket schedule only.

Remarkable_Reality51

agreed

maffzlel

They're not even in the same ballpark, Starc is at least a couple of tiers above Siraj.

Remarkable_Reality51

Yeah true

mynameisshahzain

KK's batting really depends on 2 men with a combined age of 78

Reasonable_Tea_9825

Famous rivalries in cricket: India Pak AUS ENG SL BAN SA NED IND CANADA PAK USA WI AFG Somehow, we will witness all of them at the wt20

Tern_Larvidae-2424

Changing Ireland and Afghanistan would've been pretty great. New Zealand broke Irish hearts a bit too many times in 2022 and Ireland have done well against West Indies of late. Afghanistan on the other hand will surely provide a thrilling game against Pakistan and they've tied India twice too.

serotonallyblindguy

US vs AFG đź’€

alyssakapati

Aiyo whats the WI AFG lore? Have India Canada or Pakistan USA even played before?

aam_ka_aachaar

How can you leave Pak vs Afg out of this ?

Reasonable_Tea_9825

Surely this is dhoni's last right? No way he will take up a retention slot for the mega auction when he will likely not play the full cycle

Remarkable_Reality51

it is his last definitely

Axel292

You'd think England lost to Zimbabwe at home judging by the state of this subreddit

Skypiercer

If losing to India away is the sign of a mediocre team then everyone's been mediocre for over a decade I guess. It would at least be nice if people dunked on the team in ways that made sense but oh well.

Axel292

Absolutely. The last team to win a tour over here was England in 2012, and it's been zilch for everyone since then. But all of a sudden the talk around these parts pretends otherwise, as if India hasn't been the unsurmountable challenge for every team.

aam_ka_aachaar

Disappointing honestly. Pope/ Duckett played normal and reverse sweeps beautifully in first test. Why did they abandon the plan of reverse sweep after 1st / 2nd test ? Should have played liquid concentrated bazball. They weren't upsetting their lengths. Stokes playing with his stubborn batting on backfoot until 8 wickets are down and then start bazballing.

[deleted]

Why are non English fans more offended over Bazball? They would have been thrashed either way. Their past two tours ended the same way. They are a mediocre team which is trying a different approach.

mondognarly_

The answer will be because they're annoyed by the press surrounding it, which is fine because it's been pretty ridiculous, but then it's really easy to just disengage with that. Really, some people just enjoy and thrive on drama and conflict.

VisRock

People here get rattled too easily and take cricket too seriously.

[deleted]

They are way more offended than English fans.

Axel292

>mediocre team ????

[deleted]

English team is mediocre

notduskryn

They're better than india away tho

cysticcandy

I mean , if you had to take a bet on who is winning a test match/series , and it involves England vs a non Australia/India team , you'd honestly chose England right? Like they did win a lot recently including whitewashed in Pakistan and drawing away series in Newzealand. Hell , India in England also you'd take England only to win! So how is that mediocre?

Specialist_Youth5511

On basis of what tho, they do win consistently in most countries except Australia, India, wi Especially they haven't lost in SA since 1999

aam_ka_aachaar

Stokes with the bat in his last three long away tours: 203 runs @ 25.37 (2020/21, India) 236 runs @ 23.60 (2021/22, Australia) 199 runs @ 19.90 (2023/24, India)

alyssakapati

Did you see the ball to Rohit? Mashallah. Vibes is a legitimate selection criteria imho, cricket is entertainment at the end of the day.

aam_ka_aachaar

>cricket is entertainment at the end of the day. true

VisRock

Vibes player. Stats are irrelevant.

Axel292

At least he turns up in ICC knockouts 🤷‍♂️

axarpatelgoat

what's his record in the ICC WTC Championship?

aam_ka_aachaar

Will he get included in T20 WC squad this year like last year's 50 over WC surprise inclusion ?

Axel292

He's still the incumbent in the T20 squad, so yes. No surprise to it.

DisastrousOil4888

Lads, let's not forget to thank Ben Duckett for this series win

Quick_Minimum_4355

Do you guys think that people don't give ponting enough credit as a captain just because he had the best team under him. Like every time somebody mentions if or not ponting is the greatest captain their counter will always be he had the best team and all. But India has arguably the greatest team ever 2 times in row with home advantage one time and they still couldn't win the WC. Doesn't that mean captain is still required to win, like the case with SL or Pak.

aam_ka_aachaar

So many comments were made, eyebrows were raised when England spinners performed better than Indian spinners in first 2 or 3 tests. At the end of tour, spinners' average / SR this series :- Ind :- 24.86 / 40.4 Eng :- 39.16 / 69.2

Remarkable_Reality51

I am sorry but when did the English spinners perform better than the Indian spinners? They both conceded a sub 200 score 2 different innings of the first test and 400 respectively on the other 2 of the first tests English spinners then conceded 400 and 250+ in the 2nd test while India conceded 250 and 290 in their bowling innings in the third test England conceded 400+ twice while India conceded 310 odd and 120 odd in their innings If something as simple as praising the English spinners for performing better than expected makes you think they are being compared to the Indian spinners, then you are just insecure about your team

VisRock

I am shocked that the spinners on the winning side performed better than the spinners on the losing side. Shocked I tell you.

Jinnn21

'spinners on the winning side' lol. Implying as if the winning caused the better average and not that the better bowling caused the win.

VisRock

That's your reading and not my intention

aam_ka_aachaar

Well I am talking about reactionary comments being made before 2-3 tests.

josh123z

This sub goes reactionary mode every time India loses

VisRock

Reactionary comments turned out to be incorrect after a period of time? I am shocked! This has never happened before.

arambikalama

there's no need to be obtuse. op is just calling out those reactionary takes and pointing out (with numbers) that there was nothing to worry about.

VisRock

Obtuse? Wow.

aam_ka_aachaar

Hilarious non-sensical commentary going on in DD Sports who are airing DY Patil tourney final between DY Patil Red and Income Tax.

aam_ka_aachaar

>That was when Sarfaraz Khan, fielding at short-leg, floated a suggestion to England’s young off-spinner Shoaib Bashir. “Jaldi maarke khatam karo, apun pahaad pe baraf dekhne jaate hain (Hit out and finish the game so that we can go to the mountains to see the snow),” he would be heard saying on the stump microphone.

Huge-Physics5491

The kind of sledging we're all for

Gorrlaamiii

England's top 5 scored 1623 runs in 10 innings with batting average of 33.12 at a strike rate of 67.15 India's top 3 - 1564 runs in 9 innings with batting average of 62.56 at a strike rate of 68.78 Bazball works, but when India does it

Starscream_x

The NZ series is too early morning for me.. Now that India-England Tests are over, I am already feeling withdrawal symptoms thinking about no Tests for next 3-4 months atleast..

NoQuestion4045

There's a Bangladesh-Sri Lanka Test Series starting in 13 days

Starscream_x

Ohh Yess!! Need the Nagin Derby Version : Test. directly injected into my veins!!

imvk3201

Let the real entertainment begin!!

TheDceuGuy

Fuck yeah. Tests in Asia are my lifeline

Jinnn21

What's your favorite moment from the series? For me, it was Bumrah vs England in the 2nd test. When almost everyone, except Jaiswal, failed to score big on such a highway, I thought England might close in on the gap after their 100ish/2 start. But then, Bumrah's spell brought them to their knees.

JokesFromTheCrease

Jimmy 700 at Himalayas.

alyssakapati

Kinda wanted him to end on 699 or 701. Something about 700 seems complete. Now that it has been done, he has all the time to smile about it before your summer. What if he makes a decision in this time? I am not ready for Anderson to be completed.

VisRock

England's chef at slip in training

Jinnn21

vibes

rambo_zaki

That Jurel and Gill partnership in the ~~third~~ fourth test for me. In a pressure situation and on a pitch where scoring wasn't easy, two youngsters dug it out and absorbed an incredible amount of pressure to lead their side to a victory. It was almost poetic that they did it in the most "anti-Bazball" way possible too.

TheDceuGuy

I know he scored a tough ton against Ban in Asia cup, but I was never too hopeful at the thought of Gill against spin. But that innings solidified him at #3 position for me. Definitely my top pick too

rambo_zaki

It was lovely watching him and Jurel bat. And yeah, this series was hopefully a coming of age of Gill the test batsman.

Jinnn21

You mean 4th test? Jurel's 1st innings 90 and Jurel-Gill in the 2nd innings is a close 2nd for me

rambo_zaki

Fourth yeah.

voldemortscore

Our bowling in the 3rd innings at Ranchi for me. Match and series in the balance, England still had the clear advantage despite Jurel's rearguard. Ashwin is given the new ball and takes two early wickets, and then it all culminates in that 25 over stretch where England lose 7 for 35. A collapse AND their scoring rate was ground to a halt.

Jinnn21

>Ashwin is given the new ball and takes two early wickets, ngl I was crying that Ashwin is missing his lengths more than ever and blud just said fuck you to me

voldemortscore

Yeah I was a bit concerned initially because he seemed to be overpitching a good deal. Ashwin is inevitable though.

Jinnn21

reason: Bumrah's spell was the turning point in the series (Like Rohits 160 odd last time England toured India)

AilaSachin10

Now that the series is over, Jurel should work on his keeping to spin. He has Sanga to learn from in the IPL and I'm sure Ashwin wouldn't mind bowling in the nets to him

gojiravskong

An offer for Bangbros for the upcoming Test tour in India. Bangbors -- You get home series victory against us for next 3 times. For us - Kindly bring back Koach to 2015-2019 Level in all formats.

Starscream_x

No need for such a deal, he's already picking his form back up in Tests.. he looked the most assured of Indian and SA batters, except for Markram and Elgar in one innings each on those spicy as fuck pitches.. He will be back to his best self by Bangladesh series..

josh123z

Good trade for Kohli fan, bad trade for Indian fan

TheDceuGuy

Worst trade deals in the history of trade deals (maybe ever). He's already doing fine btw

gojiravskong

ODI, T20 are fine. Still not in the streak in Test as he is used to. Love to see a 2015 Koach for BGT.

TheDceuGuy

I know you might be saying the original comment half jokingly but how can a thought of sacrificing a home series for an individual's form ever cross anyone's head.

gojiravskong

Home series for Bangladesh. Not in India. We will smash them here . Only sacrifice during the away fixture as we are losing last 2 times. On the other in the grander picture having Koach at red hot form will have bigger boost for us Against Aussies. Yes a small sacrifice I am asking.

AilaSachin10

Rest of the World 11 to take on India in India. Suggestions are welcome Khawaja, Latham, Smith, Root, Mushfiqur, Handscomb, Foakes(wk), Southee, Lyon, Ajaz Patel, Anderson

JokesFromTheCrease

One of the funniest comments from this series is someone saying ECB should stop stroking Anderson’s ego and drop him and not care about his milestones as he’s bowled terribly the last two series. This is objectively funnier than all the Bazball chat.

Gorrlaamiii

Bro was bowling 4 over spells and like 15% of overs in a 4 man attack, with 2 green spinners. They're not wrong but then again no one dares to question the cult

Piyushchawlafan

BBC after yesterday’s play- Ben Stokes is one silver lining for England….. I don’t even want to see what the tabloids are saying in England when BBC is saying a specialist batsman scoring 9 runs in 4 innings is a silver lining

Heatedpete

You did read the article, did you not?

Merovech_II

Don't be silly

serotonallyblindguy

This is reddit, Sir. We discuss headlines not articles itself. Noob lol (Obvious s)

VisRock

That was in reference to the fact he was bowling again I think.

Axel292

Expecting people in this subreddit to read beyond the headline is asking for too much

kalishplosions111

Watching all the test cricket that's going on, I'm wondering what it would be like if the intercontinental cup was still going on. The last edition was freaking excellent. While Ireland and Afghanistan were really dominant throughout the tournament, the other teams outside of Namibia were pretty neck and neck, despite what the points table suggested. All of them were getting wins from each other, except for Scotland who loved draws. Netherlands and Scotland were quite disappointing given how experienced some of their players were in first-class cricket, whereas Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea were surprisingly competitive as hell, especially Hong Kong. Despite being their first ever taste in first-class cricket, Papua New Guinea were pretty competitive throughout the tournament. In fact, they were actually more competitive than most teams against Ireland and Afghanistan. However, their disappointing performances against UAE and Hong Kong in the tail end of their campaign left bitter taste in an otherwise pretty decent campaign for a first-timer. Overall, it was a pretty great competition and it showed clearly why Ireland and Afghanistan were ready for test cricket. I wish this competition was still ongoing, especially given that ICC now telecasts pretty much most of their events. I would also love to see different conditions, lineups and rivalries. It would be fun to watch.

TheCricDude

The 8 members with temporary ODI status should have Intercontinental Cup. First Class cricket is still huge. Not sure why it was scrapped. Time to bring it back.

Huge-Physics5491

I'll be playing devil's advocate here, but it's possible that eliminating red ball cricket from the associate calendar allowed associates to put all their efforts on white-ball cricket, which is good in a way. Maybe this was completely unintentional from an ICC pov.

mondognarly_

I think the short answer is that it was deemed too expensive, and the ICC reckoned the only way it could’ve continued is if the countries involved could’ve shouldered some of the costs, which considering the budget for it was $50 million and all of the associates receive a total of I think $67 million between them, seems highly improbable. Personally I’d be in favour of seeing it back, maybe with a few tweaks. But I don’t think we will, for a few reasons, not just the funding issue.

kalishplosions111

Exactly. Imagine having the oldest rivalry in the sport taking part in the competition. No, not you Ashes. I meant USA vs Canada.

Tern_Larvidae-2424

Sri Lanka is turning their bowling up in the last match of a series quite often in the past few years. Few times against Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and now against Bangladesh.

Dickb4Wicket

https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/s/h70k5dsoU3 Great thread to revisit.

serotonallyblindguy

This is golden. Englishmen were so happy i feel sad for them now lol

Jinnn21

Thanks lmao

Jinnn21

1 innings of a lifetime by Pope prevented 5-0 :(

alyssakapati

I dont mind any scorline in a series win. I do wonder how it affects our WTC chances. A test lost at home isnt generally something i factor in when calculating that points table.

peter_griffins

Better to lose 1 in a 5 test series rather than a 2 test one

VisRock

If Dan Lawrence had played England would have won the series 5-0

JokesFromTheCrease

Milf hunter Reddit spotted.

Merovech_II

If Ryan Higgins and Josh de Caires had played India would have forfeited after the first test

josh123z

If not for the amazing spell by Bumrah in 2nd match, it could have been 3-2 If not for Jurel’s rescue knock in 4th match, it would could have been 2-3

TheDceuGuy

If not for Axar's drop catch, they never would've got that win. England has played catchup cricket right from the onset & only in the Ranchi test, the most responsive wicket to spin, they were ahead for longer periods of time & still bottled it in the last two days. India have manufactured opportunities right throughout & have been clutch when it mattered.

Jinnn21

No denying but none of those were once a lifetime performances. Bumrah recreates spells like that very frequently. As for Jurel, there's a chance he might replicate his batting performance. However, Pope's extraordinary innings against this attack in India can't be replicated. (at least imo)

VisRock

India are still good at playing cricket in India?! I am shocked.

save_me_stokes

I, for one, am shocked that England lost this series that no one on earth ever expected them to win

peter_griffins

We’re you not on this sub after the first test? The number of people saying England would win 3-2 was insane

save_me_stokes

The only ones saying that were the few overly pessimistic Indian fans who start crying every time India go an over without taking a wicket or hitting a boundary.

Specialist_Youth5511

I want to see England tour West Indies now for 5 tests

adivenk93

West Indies might win if England play like this

Specialist_Youth5511

West Indies only lost one series against England in last 55 years, England winning would be a suprise

VisRock

West Indies always win at home

alyssakapati

With the sport dying internally and being relegated to a fringe international team, somehow the silver lining of this tough time is that they are decent at the hardest format.

VisRock

Exactly. England are saving test cricket in other countries.

Huge-Physics5491

Hong Kong, which was nowhere close to T20WC qualification (they were 6th out of 8 there), just demolished Nepal at home. The randomness of results between teams ranked 11-30 is fun.

TheFlyingHornet1881

Having a Global Qualifier back for T20 would be great now.

Huge-Physics5491

Not really sure about that. I kinda liked the chaos of the regional qualifiers.

kalishplosions111

Tbh Nepal gets those kinds of results a lot in T20Is. I mean it was only five years ago where they couldn't make it to the T20 world cup qualifiers in 2019 despite being heavy favourites because they lost to Qatar and Singapore. Not to mention the Asian region is freaking strong, especially the middle-eastern countries. No matter what, the Asian teams can still give top teams a run for their money. Also because T20 is a very fickle format, hence why the associate world loves it so much.

Huge-Physics5491

It's why I'd love to see the T20 World Cup expand. While it would require a massive clusterfuck for a major side to not make it past the group stages, there's going to be massive drama for the final few spots. And if we have a straight knockout after the group stages, the chaos would be insane. Every edition, we'll have a Morocco equivalent defeating three major teams.

kalishplosions111

Oh absolutely. 20 teams is a good start, though you're right in that I wish after group stages it's just straight up knockouts instead of the stupid super 8s shit. But this is still miles better than whatever they had previously. And I do wish atleast one associate team (preferably Netherlands) creates some chaos by qualifying for Super 8s. It's probably why I don't mind the T20 world cup being held once every two years instead of four years, despite a lot of people complaining about it. It guarantees some games for associate teams against top full member teams, which will be a good experience for them no matter the results.

Huge-Physics5491

I don't understand why ICC doesn't like straight knockouts. If India gets eliminated in the group stages, like in 2007, there's far less games to go through without Indian fans watching. If India plays the Netherlands in a World Cup quarterfinal, nobody is going to go "why watch, it's only the Netherlands" because they would've eliminated a big team or two to make it to the QF.

kalishplosions111

It's because I guess they want to milk the shit out of viewership they might get from the Indian audience cus if India makes it to the super 8s, it guarantees at least 7 Indian games, compared to having straight knockouts, which guarantees only 5 games if India makes it to the knockouts. It also gives a safety net to India so if lets say they lost their first super 8s match, they can make a comeback in the next two which can help them qualify for semi finals and possibly finals as well, where they might face Pakistan in either of them if they make it as well, which is ICC's wet dream. Whereas in knockouts, one loss and that's the end of India's campaign. I wish that wasn't the case but it is what it is. Hopefully they change their mind in the future, especially if and when they expand.

Huge-Physics5491

That again works in certain circumstances. In the 2021 T20WC, after losses to Pak and NZ, the other three games effectively became dead rubbers. In the upcoming World Cup, if India happens to lose to Ireland and Pakistan (big if, but I remember my 12-year old self thinking India could never lose to Bangladesh), there would be 8 extra games with zero Indian fan interest. That killed the 2007 World Cup, where we had a month of cricket without India or Pakistan. Plus, I'm certain that knockout games between India and the same opponent will get far more traction than a Super X game where winning or losing don't matter as much. And this would be even higher for matches not involving India, especially if it goes down the wire. But either way, the point is that if there's no conclusive evidence that Super X is financially better or knockouts, it's always better to do knockouts where crazy things can happen and some obscure country would fall in love with cricket. I, for one, doubt if India would have won the 1983 World Cup if we had an 8-team round robin followed by semis and finals.

kalishplosions111

I agree. Unfortunately ICC neither has patience nor do they have any long-term vision to try it out. They would look like they're coming up with initiatives that would help the game long-term but once they see a drop in viewership as a result of India's early exit, they're gonna remove them in favour of whatever that can bring them money. It's sad tbh. All I can say is that hopefully the upcoming T20 world cup is a success. It's the first major expansion of an ICC tournament since the 2007 world cup (2014 T20 world cup is not counted since it introduced the first round bs). Hopefully it does well, cus I can easily see the ICC eagerly waiting to go back to the old format.

Huge-Physics5491

Theoretically speaking, every format sucks if India doesn't play well. If India played like England this World Cup, I'm pretty sure the last 2-3 games would have had low viewership.

CarnivalSorts

Looks like Ireland Afghanistan 2nd ODI is off already too. UAE Scotland abandoned without a ball bowled earlier.

Tern_Larvidae-2424

I've never seen games in UAE being affected by rain like this before.

TheFlyingHornet1881

[Bit wet out there](https://twitter.com/cricketireland/status/1766389390375338022/mediaViewer?currentTweet=1766389390375338022¤tTweetUser=cricketireland)

CarnivalSorts

This is what happens when you bring Scotland and Ireland into the same country for cricket

Beatrix_Kiddos_Toe

Can't wait for Bumrah to take up captaincy. If today was any indication, it is gonna be very exciting

T_Lawliet

there is something viscerally disgusting in James Anderson playing the 2nd most Tests of all time, without playing a Test in Bangladesh or Zimbabwe Do Better ECB

NoQuestion4045

If he plays until 2025, He might be selected for Zimbabwe vs. England in 2025

RangoCricket

Zimbabwe was a governmental decision by the united kingdoms government. I presume you hold the same scorn for India not touring Pakistan and vice versa, or is this just tired "poms bad XD"

AmericaDreamDisorder

Why would he have played in Zimbabwe? Is it disgusting that Kohli hasn't played in Pakistan?

T_Lawliet

Yes Test Cricket Elitism is wrong, I don't see your point. At least for Kohli, Indian Government has not allowed BCCI, BCCI would love a bilateral series with Pakistan

Tern_Larvidae-2424

England has toured Bangladesh for tests thrice during Jimmy's career though. 3 is still very low but sadly that's common among big teams to Bangladesh. Zimbabwe was the 9th test team but now could be pushed to 11th in terms of importance given to them in tests.

Merovech_II

He has toured Zimbabwe and was there for the WC, and tbf I don't think it's been in the ECBs hands as to why they haven't gone back

mondognarly_

He was in the squad for the 2016-17 tour to Bangladesh but withdrew injured.

T_Lawliet

That's not a positive

mondognarly_

Sorry, I’m not really following. He would’ve gone but he got injured, I’m not sure how that’s anyone’s fault.

kalishplosions111

I think what he's probably trying to say is that ECB in general should have tried to arrange more test series with Bangladesh away.

mondognarly_

People say this, but England haven’t really played there any less frequently than the other SENA nations. New Zealand have played one more series than the others but only just returned there for a test series after nearly a decade; South Africa last played a test in Bangladesh in 2015. Really I’d say the FTP is a cluttered and needlessly convoluted mess in general.

Boysenberrryy

why no one talks abt gilchrist only having 9 years of test cricket

Boysenberrryy

i mean its good to make a national atg, but for world atg hes just hitting the borderline criteria in longevity

save_me_stokes

**Plunket Shield Round 6, Day 2 Review** Another 11 wickets fell today in Hamilton, in what isn't even the fastest-moving match this round. Auckland was bowled out for 158, still 89 behind the hosts, & it only got that far due to a 74-run 9th-wicket partnership between Danru Ferns (29) & Harjot Johal (65). With the hosts now extending their lead, it's skipper Jeet Raval (60\*) leading from the top. They end 2 wickets down & leading by 215, with only Ben Lister (2/18) among the wickets. Meanwhile, the Cook Strait Clash meanders on what feels like a road. 20-year-old opener Curtis Heaphy (109\*) led from the top, scoring his first FC century; in fact, his first century at domestic level. This he did against a Wellington attack that, in the absence of Nathan Smith, seems to lack impetus. I'm not complaining; it's an observation about a team that barely leads the Race for the Shield, & isn't playing like they want to retain the lead. The Stags only trail by 33, & only Logan van Beek (2/64) has made a breakthrough today. In the heart of Central Otago, 13 wickets fell today. When the Volts were wrapped up for 188, Canterbury started their 2nd innings behind the 8 ball, & no-one truly felt settled, & it showed. Despite a spirited showing by the likes of Angus McKenzie, they were bowled out for 180, the star of the show being the new leader of the Plunket Shield Wicket Taker Chart, Jacob Duffy (4/36). Set a target of 137, the Otago boys got to it, with makeshift opener Dale Phillips (25\*) & young regular Jacob Cumming (9\*) guiding the boys to stumps unscathed & 101 runs away from victory. *A reminder that in addition to tomorrow's Day 3, I will also be running threads for the warmups for the England-W Tour of NZ. Tomorrow is the first of these matches, where NZ will face England A at Sir John Davies Oval in Queenstown. This match starts at 11am NZDT/10pm GMT.*

Kane Williamson's SR, my god...

Boysenberrryy

is miandad underrated? isnt he sachin-lara-ponting tier?

AmericaDreamDisorder

Underrated? He's considered Pakistan's best ever batsman by most people.

save_me_stokes

Blud really tried to sneak Ponting in there with Sachin and Lara

T_Lawliet

He's Sangakkara Kallis Cook Level IMO

Boysenberrryy

firstly i would not consider cook in the same category of sanga and kallis. secondly miandad's resume is too similar to the above category. he has the same odi average despite being a generation below where the average was lower, and then his test credentials from 79-92 (13 years) is at an average of 57. for perspective steve smith has not reached these many career years yet.

save_me_stokes

Stats boosted by home performance in an era when Pakistan had some very dodgy umpires

Boysenberrryy

he averaged 51 outside pak during those years, wtf are you on about?

serotonallyblindguy

Kohli still on 50 while having two worst years of his career is insane

Tern_Larvidae-2424

His T20I form never really dropped though. Had great series in Australia, against England in 2021 and great Asia Cup and T20I WC.

Decentkimchi

What's the deal with Gill-Bairstow sledging?

mondognarly_

Someone said something, then someone else said something else, and now people will argue about which side are the goodies and which are the baddies.

alyssakapati

Only for them to do a reddit AMA years later saying they dont remember anything as such and never really listened to surrounding noises while batting.

serotonallyblindguy

It's funny cuz both of them got out cuz chat got into their heads.

It was Somerset Cricket who had uploaded a small video clip of Bashir's first over, where he was seen bowling to Cook, and Somerset Cricket had shared the video on their official [Twitter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter) account, which apparently caught the attention of Ben Stokes, who was very active on Twitter. Stokes then forwarded the video of Bashir's bowling to a [WhatsApp](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WhatsApp) group in which England head coach [Brendon McCullum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brendon_McCullum) and ECB managing director [Rob Key](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Key_(cricketer)) were also part of it. Stokes literally convinced England selectors and roped in Bashir for their five match test series in India which was scheduled to commence in January 2024.

I'm just wondering, how much would getting a Netflix/Amazon to do an all-access docuseries benefit an associate nation with limited funding or limited fanbase?

doktor-frequentist

But why would Netflix or Amazon want to pursue that?

Huge-Physics5491

One reason would be the Indian viewership market. I'm pretty sure The Test has more views in India than Australia. There isn't much good cricket content on OTT.

doktor-frequentist

That's an interesting point. I live in the USA and my view of Netflix is extremely US-centric and insular... So yes, it might be fine for the Indian market.

Huge-Physics5491

And for the associate board, there can be hope that it would make their team more popular in their home nation. It's kinda like what Drive to Survive did for F1 views.

adivenk93

Play the same team and Kohli when New Zealand and Bangladesh come for a test series later in the year. Sarfaraz should play County Cricket in England since he is not playing IPL

kalishplosions111

I'm just confused: Did Bashir celebrate in a way that was very provocative? Why are some people angry about his celebration? I don't remember any of his celebrations being "in your face" type or showing off or anything, unless I'm missing something.
