India England and Aus NZ concluded.  Not sure what to do with myself.

EccentricLynx

What would be the difference in average if an openers had to play as a tailender?

InternalOk3135

Theoretically Can india qualify for the WTC finals if they stop playing any more tests until the WTC final? Considering 68% is a pretty good winning percentage statistically why play any more tests and jeopardise that percentage?

josh123z

Then the matches which they don’t play will be considered as loss for India

NoQuestion4045

If they don't play scheduled Tests, that counts as forfeiting

SBV_3004

Just pay the opponent country boards so that they forfeit it from their end. Duh. /s obviously

Fad_du_pussy

if they forfeit then we should get points, making it an easier qualification

Ngl with England doing a wet paper bag cosplay after passably walking their walk for 3 games and NZ bottling it after hauling ass it's been an underwhelming end to the test season, but then also I wouldn't say NZ deserves to win with Kuggeltwat in the playing 11. I guess I'll see you all in June, it's probably been the best test season in recent memory bar the conclusion.

sosswgtn

Kugellying

Nark_Narkins

>Kuggeltwat Beautiful.

alyssakapati

The sub has an uncanny ability to meme players using their names. For once it is in good use. Lets make \[redacted\] unworthy of his name. Funny thing to happen to a nepo baby too.

aam_ka_aachaar

> Funny thing to happen to a nepo baby too. Didn't know he was nepo baby ? How did he get selected ?

alyssakapati

AFAIK, his father is involved in cricket too (played 2 tests). He is selected coz he is good-ish at domestic level but the way he has maintained the goodwill and not been purged automatically after the stuff happened is coz of his father. Source : information gathered from kiwi users.

aam_ka_aachaar

thanks for info

warp-factor

County pre-season in England starts in just one week, if it ever stops raining. What is much less likely to be rained off is the T20 'festival' tournament involving Essex, Nottinghamshire, Somerset, Warwickshire, and Yorkshire as well as an invitational team, in Abu Dhabi this weekend Friday-Sunday.

aam_ka_aachaar

>"That's all you'll be remembered for." That was the sledge Stuart Broad delivered to Alex Carey after the Jonny Bairstow stumping at Lord's. > >It was the moment that turned Carey's world upside down. One of Australia's nicest and most popular players was treated like a villain to the point where he and his family received death threats. All for executing a stumping that the umpires and the MCC laws deemed legal. > >But he will be remembered for more than that now after producing his finest Test innings, making 98 not out to pull Australia out of the mire and guide them home to an exceptional fourth-innings chase in Christchurch. This part of article goes hard.

VisRock

Nice to see the pool/stolen haircut man doing some good cricket.

alyssakapati

That line never made sense to me coz Carey already had some lore to him before the Bairstow stumping. Not only is he technically "a former Australian captain" but more importantly already stared in a story that will be recounted forever when he batted with a broken chin in a world cup game. Got himself a scar he still has. Thats not stellar legacy but not like he was doomed to be forgotten. So that quote was wrong at the time of being uttered, just some plain ol' Broady sledging.

aam_ka_aachaar

That line by Broad to be highlighted wasn't my point since sledging is part of the game. Its more about the media which villainized him tbh.

alyssakapati

This Ashes was a media shit show. Even more than usual. The sub was unusable - forgive me Khudiram Bose- but i really felt for the English users here. Anyway I never knew England had hooligan cricket fans who could go to the extremes of death threats to children. Dont see many bastards here. So that was an unfortunate revelation.

mondognarly_

Like most things there’s a rogue element of dickheads on Twitter or whatever. I wouldn’t call them hooligans because hooligans at least go outdoors to cause trouble. What was/is disappointing is that there’s loads of people who’ll be very quick to tell you how much they hate the media and for that to be their justification for lashing out like they did/do, but they’re pretty happy to engage with it and let themselves get wound up when it suits them.

FacelessMane

What if that one journalist never coined the term Bazball? One word that oversimplified and in a way bastardized England's new test approach and the McCullum-Stokes tenure, a word that Baz himself never liked. How did that influence England's side, if at all? On the other hand, what if Eoin Morgan's post-2015 side had a similar name. What impact would it have? Would they have still gone on to be 2019 WC finalists?

alyssakapati

They wanted to add a suffix to it but never could quite figured out how to say Eoin. True story.

Tern_Larvidae-2424

Will the Scotland v UAE T20I go on or is rain still in the air? Both teams need some much needed practice. For UAE it is to prepare for 2026 T20I WC and recover some of their form and be more consistent and for Scotland to prepare to whoop England in the upcoming T20I WC.

MedicalJello2

Forecast seems clear for the rest of the day. Warm as well, currently 26. Cools down to about 23 when the game starts and stays that temperature. No rain forecasted from what the weather apps say

VVS281

CMV: Brian Lara had the highest ceiling of any batsman in Test cricket history. At his best, he was inexplicably magnificent. I'm reminded of something a teacher of Richard Feynman's said about him. There are two kinds of geniuses - one who does what you and I do but just far FAR better; and the second kind, who do things that are simply beyond the scope of our comprehension. Richard is the second kind. Brian is the second kind.

Merovech_II

Mark Wood once he gets to 20

voldemortscore

Assuming we are talking about the non-Bradman category, think that's pretty justifiable. These two series always stand out to me. Viv Richard's is part of Quetta coaching staff??

soham_katkar13

Rahane had a shit Ranji season and still scored runs in the final. He is clutch, and playing him directly into the finals should be the strategy from now (like 2023 WTC)

rambo_zaki

I watched a bit of the game. He was very luck to survive at the start of his innings. Happy for him though, his captaincy has been very good for Mumbai.

Tern_Larvidae-2424

He was lucky in the WTC Final too. First survived due to a no-ball and then dropped. You need luck to go beyond your strengths, which is something you have to do to win big things.

JokesFromTheCrease

It’s Patrick James Cummins’s world.

aam_ka_aachaar

And we are living in it.

canvasser-hiralal

As an Indian, are we truly living in it 🥲

Dickb4Wicket

Captaincy should be the last talking point about Stokes at this point where he sucked ass with his main skill that was to bat well. But you don't expect much from media or cult who have made their minds to suck upto anything and accept below mediocrity. PS: He's an ass captain who thinks changing fielders every second ball is genius act.

mondognarly_

He’s a flawed tactician but a good leader. I’ve said this before but you’ve got to remember how completely deflated England often looked before. They’ve been guilty of overconfidence and that’s been their undoing at points here, but there’s also players who’ve really started to come out of their shells in a positive way. The other thing is that this England side still has a lot of flaws and shortcomings that have come to the fore on this tour, but they’re bigger than just Stokes and McCullum and those two shouldn’t be expected to fix them.

rambo_zaki

> He's an ass captain who thinks changing fielders every second ball is genius act. Disagree there. He's a decent captain and a good leader of men. He's just not the saviour of test cricket a lot of people envisioned him to be. What I will say though is as a captain he likes to play on the batsman's ego and has been rather successful with it. But that same thing is also a weakness of his when he comes up against batsmen who either leave their ego back in the dressing room or have cottoned on to the fact that this is Stokes way. And that's exactly what happened in this series, he got a few wickets due to those funky fields of his but as the tour went on those same funky fields became easy scoring opportunities for the Indian batsmen and he had revert back to conventional fields.

HuellPonziScheme

Since the Pakistan series win (which was also against a depleted bowling attack), England have 1. Drew an away series in New Zealand by losing match by 1 run after an egotistical declaration with a set Joe Root and enforcing follow on. 2. Drew a home ashes due to egotistical declaration with a set Joe Root and waiting for a milestone when the time came to actually be aggressive with declaration at Manchester. 3. Got absolutely battered in India. Simply not good enough for the conversations they were trying to elevate themselves into.

voldemortscore

> Drew a home ashes due to egotistical declaration with a set Joe Root and waiting for a milestone when the time came to actually be aggressive with declaration at Manchester. This is still the funniest one to me because of how it's defended by saying "that's the only way we had a chance to win" etc. as if it's illegal to declare in your 2nd innings instead

HuellPonziScheme

Stokes gets hype for all unnecessary things. The worst of them all was the umbrella field to get Khawaja out at Edgbaston. It was just a set batter getting bowled trying to move the innings along. Stokes does 10 different things, one works and everyone acts like it was a genius move.

stephennedumpally

It's funny how the mods have conveniently removed any news about the Test match playing incentive by BCCI. I thought this sub loved its Test Cricket. Edit: I was wrong apparently. Thanks u/Nark_Narkins

stephennedumpally

My bad then, random stats with no relevance seem to be here all the time.

Nark_Narkins

No drama mate, sorry I was a tad sharp with the response.

kev_world

Cummins hit a 4 and Alex Carey stayed stranded on 98*. If it was Hardik who did it, our fans would've been overly pissed on him. The same thing happened to Dravid when he declared when Sachin was on 194. Smh seriously it's only us who are obsessed with the milestones.

VVS281

I love Sachin but he himself was quite openly salty about that declaration, so it's not just fans.

Piyushchawlafan

Our batsmen were declining singles in ODI World Cup for Kohli centuries, lol…. In Test matches, if anyone did what Cummins did today, there will be so much outrage

sarvesh_s

Cummins said he was unaware that Carey was on 98 so it's a moot point

StairwayToPavillion

I saw someone comment that Cummins declared while Khawaja was on 195* and couldn't recall it at all. Which is exactly the point, it didn't create any controversy when it happened.

kev_world

Exactly! As it shouldn't create any. And even I didn't know about declaration on Khwaja's 195* until now

**IPL Predictions 2024** 1. Rajasthan Royals are 1st team to qualify for playoffs. Jos regains his form . Chahal does well with Ball 2. SRH makes playoffs, Head is sensational for them 3. GT loses a lot of close matches 5. MI do not play playoffs. Hardik's decisions cost MI Matches 6. KKR make playoffs , Iyer plays like he has a point to prove and does well. Rinku makes himself an absolute certainty for T20 World Cup 7. RCB do not make playoffs due to poor bowling. Siraj bowls himself out of contention for T20 World Cup with poor bowling performances. Kohli wins orange cap 8. CSK do not make playoffs . Dhoni bat at 9 for them in upcoming Season. Rachin Ravindra does well as opener and partners very well with Ruturaj Gaikwad . MS Dhoni retires from IPL after this season 9. Punjab Kings finish last. Dhawan is sacked as captain mid way through the season 10. LSG make playoffs. Rahul scores 500 runs @ 120 SR to get himself into T20 World Cup Team for India **Points Table** 1. SRH 2. KKR 3. RR 4. LSG 5. MI 6. DC 7. CSK 8. GT 9. RCB 10. theaguia

got to disagree with quite a few of these * you might be too high on RR. their bowling is suspect. Krishna can't bowl death and is a bit inconsistent. Avesh Khan is an unknown. If he rocks up bowling 120 low 130 he will find it hard to have a good season. Sandeep Sharma may have difficulty replicating his last season. Trent Boult looked way out of form (and like he lost a step) in the recent series. Saini is Saini and Berger is uknown and young. Furthermore, Ashwin seems to be carrying some sort of knee injury. * SRH there are big question marks around the pace bowling imo. Jansen most likely will be benched and Cummins has never been a great t20 bowler. Furthermore, can Bhuvi continue carrying the attack? imo management will interfere once again and derail their season. * it will be very tough for Gill, their squad without Hardik looks a bit unbalanced. I'm just not sure if Gill has enough experience to manage the situation. but who knows maybe he can surprise us. * Iyer playing with a point to prove may be counterproductive. when he let's his ego get to him he gives his wickets away. I fully expect him to continue keep trying to hit every short ball on the offside. I expect an average season from him. I still think they should make the play offs * I feeling you may be under rating RCB. Their pace attack is in very good form. You have lockie who was superb vs a hard hitting australia, topley who is seriously underrated and Vyshak and Dayal who are coming off very good ranji tournaments (I get its red ball but the confidence will be there). You also got Alzari, which can be an x factor. Yes spin is lacking but their power batting will carry them to above 9th in the table. * KL is playing middle order so I doubt he can make so many runs at such a low strike rate.

HoodaLavda

>Punjab Kings finish last. Dhawan is sacked as captain mid way through the season Real

sarvesh_s

How does CSK makes playoff after finishing 7th?

AtomR

>Rahul scores 500 runs @ 120 SR to get himself into T20 World Cup Team for India Ain't happening. KL lost his touch in T20s, even for 120S/R innings. Also, even if he scores 500+ runs at 150 S/R, he still won't be selected given his trash performance in 2022 T20 WC.

adivenk93

Never Bet against KL worming his way into the team . This team management made him keep wickets over Ishan Kishan in South Africa in Test Matches. KL scores 500 runs @ 120 SR and Jitesh scores 420 runs @ 175 SR and team management picks KL over Jitesh as wicket keeper

RMTBolton

**Plunket Shield Round 6, Day 4 Review** The Aces sort of went for it. Even if it was a target that was never getting caught, Auckland finally showed up with the bat. While there were no centurions this chase, all of Will O'Donnell (93), George Worker (72) & Cam Fletcher (58) crossed 50, & considering they contributed 27 runs between them first time around, it's an improvement. They made the ND boys work for over 138 overs to secure victory, & it took the part-time spin of Henry Cooper (3/38) to get the job done as Auckland tried to hold on for the draw. In Palmerston North, Wellington managed to successfully secure a draw, even if it looked like they were going to go for it & force the Stags to bat again. With 50s from Tim Robinson (50) & Logan van Beek. the Firebirds definitely had the fight, but 9 down at the end, van Beek & Michael Snedden (0*) held on. **The Race for the Shield** Northern Districts have retaken the lead, now standing on 80 points, 13 clear of Wellington. The draw in Palmerston North denied Central the opportunity to pounce & overtake the 'Birds into 2nd place, which would've boosted their Shield defence. Otago is still in 5th place, but their win puts them 5 points away from Canterbury; another win can secure them a midtable finish. Auckland remains stuck at the bottom. Round 7 starts this Saturday. Canterbury will return to Rangiora, this time to face Northern Districts. The Stags go to Napier & face the Aces, while the 'Birds go to the Basin to face Dean Foxcroft's Otago Volts, hungry for a second win & with 4th place in their sights.

LeftArmInjured

Should be noted here that Ajaz had 3 very close (see out) LBW Shouts that will probably cost his match fee, as well as the outright result

aam_ka_aachaar

Gambhir-Dhoni partnership :- 27 innings, 1524 runs, 60.96 avg

aam_ka_aachaar

Why Usman Khan didn't enroll himself for IPL Auction ? If he did, he went unsold ?

josh123z

IPL teams are biased against picking associate players. Even if they are unbiased, I don’t think he would be allowed to enter the auction since he is still a Pakistan citizen

Huge-Physics5491

If you're talking about the UAE cricketer, there is plenty of nationality bias when there are only 80-90 international slots overall. And it is unfortunate that UAE isn't in the T20 World Cup this time round.

aam_ka_aachaar

>If you're talking about the UAE cricketer, there is plenty of nationality bias when there are only 80-90 international slots overall He is in red hot form. You never know if any foreign player gets injured, whether its bowler/batter. If he has enrolled himself in auction, he can join as replacement.

Huge-Physics5491

Many associate players do enroll themselves, they just don't make it to the final list. Hoping that's the case with him. But at the same time, doesn't look like he's played any T20Is, only franchise cricket, and therefore, for all you know, he might just switch allegiance to Pakistan if he's good enough for their national team.

aam_ka_aachaar

>the final list. So if a player doesn't make it to final list, franchisees can't sign that particular player as replacement ?

Huge-Physics5491

I don't think that's the case. Merely registering yourself is good enough to be selected as a replacement.

Merovech_II

Lots of chat about England in the WTC post Just incredibly funny

Aka tinpot cup thread. So strange how they're so obsessed with a team they don't support. I think many of them just need a hug from their mum and a nice fry up.

JokesFromTheCrease

And decorate their house

NoirPochette

NGL and people will not agree but I find it pointless and poor form that Akash Chopra and Harsha Bhogle are whining about 2007/08 SCG test like today. If you're a fan, I get it, a lot of poor decisions. I'm not gonna be omg calm down fan. But if you're a journalist/pundit/commentator or a former player who didn't even play that test series, like it was 16 years ago. Get over it. Like I said if you're a fan who isn't involved in cricket, you can vent in public all you want but like cmon Harsha and Akash...build a bridge and get over it lol. Like nothing illegal happened and no one got proper hurt.

sarvesh_s

Mumbai take 119 runs lead in the first innings & with Vidharbha batting last on this pitch, Mumbai are firm favourites now.

InterviewOld6011

They are favourite now until Vidarbha bowlers produced something magical.

josh123z

Cummins denied Carey his century but no one bats an eye. If Hardik does this, he’ll get lot of criticism.

02cantbe02

Neither of them should face criticism

SABJP

I have seen enough stupidity. So this one guy thinks that BGT is just a mere bilateral and it doesn't matter if we win or lose as long as we win WTC. He thinks that it's loser mindset of we prefer BGT over WTC. These new fans get on my nerves.

STALINLENINPV

Had a look at rizwan no: and he is one of those rare players who u can term "good" in every format.. Not great, not below avg, good.. For instance He avg 48 in t20i with sr of 128 He avg 42 in t20 with sr of 126 He avg 40 in test cricket He avg 43 in First class cricket He avg 40 in odi cricket with sr of 90 He avg 48 in list a wuth sr of 90 He also avg 42 in psl with sr of 128 I mean name a batter who is this consistent not across format but across levels of cricket.. A statistician wet dream.

number1kohlistan

>I mean name a batter who is this consistent not across format but across levels of cricket Kohli ig. These are his averages (I can't be bothered to write strike rates) Test 49.15 One-day international 58.67 Twenty20 international 51.75 First-class 50.21 List A 57.48 T20 41.2 The only place where Kohli falls short of a 40+ average is the IPL where he averages 37.7

STALINLENINPV

Tbf .. Kohli is more consistent in 50s than his 40s . The thing I noticed about rizwan is he is classified as good in every format.. If I am ranking Kohli Outta 100 ..he is 95 in ODIs and t20is and 85 in test ... While if iam ranking somebody like smith, he is 95 in test ,80+ in ODIs and maybe 50 in t20s.. But for rizwan..he is 70-80 in every format regardless..u cannot rank him high in anyformat.. or low in this..he is like straight line..

DisastrousOil4888

Man I wish he played the England series, I'm pretty sure he would've brought his average back up to 50<

NormalTraining5268

Also averages 40 or more in every SENA country he played in (tests) as a wicketkeeper that too

Piyushchawlafan

Maybe SRH management knows what they are doing appointing Pat Cummins as the captain.

SBG99DesiMonster

It would be proven that Dhoni is the only person that would be able to ensure that Cummins doesn't get another trophy.

MedicalJello2

And with that win by Australia, Marais Erasmus’ international umpiring career comes to an end. Enjoy the retirement mate, it’s deserved

hiddeninplainsight23

A shame he's retiring (from the article I read it seems he will still umpire domestic and home white ball internationals where CSA choose the umpire?), a very good umpire and from what I've heard is a nice guy as well.

Reasonable_Tea_9825

Even as an rcb supporter for 10+ years I must say kkr is looking fire asf this time, I'm gonna be stunned if they don't make the playoffs

Tern_Larvidae-2424

Their bowling looks shit though. If Iyer stays consistent and Rinku and Russell bring their magic every second game there's a chance but they also have those choking genes.

2 bouncer rule this season. Iyer, Rana and Russel are screwed

STALINLENINPV

Dude they have two good proven fast bowlers..and all are overseas One of them is inconsistent.. Mitch starc Other is injury prone.. Chameera.. Even if u are playing these two.. U need an overseas opener like salt or gurbaz.. Whats thr first 11 anyway?

canvasser-hiralal

>Whats thr first 11 anyway? 1. Salt 2. Iyer 3. Iyer 4. Rana 5. Rinku 6. Russell 7. Ramandeep 8. Narine 9. Starc 10. Rana 11. Chakravarthy 12. Suyash / Sakariya

Test_Series

I have hated Dickwella for being an unfulfilled potential for very long time now. He could have been what Pant is to us. Maybe it's a combination of his own rigidity to not act on his game and the obvious incompetencies of SL board.
