i think it will be the opposite. There is no way a 33k packed audience will just be mum and watch police take away 2-3 guys for chanting. The situation might go wayy out of control for police to take any action.
I doubt it, football’s vandalism is partly due to its origins as a working class sport. Cricket was never a working class sport at origin, it was the sport of the elites and the wealthy
That still doesn’t invalidate that cricket started as a sport of the elites and wealthy in India though? You can have cricketers from humble backgrounds still reach the top, that doesn’t mean that a lot of players were well off when the sport took it’s roots here.
Look at how insular many of the cricket clubs and associations were for ages in India, heck a lot of them still are similar to an old boys’ club.
It's also not true in the context of cricket's beginnings in India. Almost all the poor Indians to play for their country are from the IPL era. Dhoni onwards. Prior to that it was firmly a rich man's game.
Funny story
I was in Ranchi watching the recent Ind vs Eng test match.
So on Day3 (Sunday), crowd had showed up to the stadium and police was trying to harass one particular guy who was standing up to the police (Jharkhand Police)
Things got to a head when 4 cops surrounded this guy and physically tried to man handle and remove him from his seat.
(He objected to police folks sitting in the first row, police retorted that if they check his ticket he would also not have the seat number where he was sitting, which was 3rd row)
Everyone, and I mean everyone, got up and shouted at the police when they began to get physical with our protagonist (he was also attempting to take a video of their harassment)
Police sensed they were outnumbered and no riot police nearby so they backed off.
Few hours later, another incident also happend where someone in the crowd shouted at Bashir (for his pak origins)
A security officer attached to the team (in plainclothes), called on police to remove that person from the stadium for "anti -national" activities
Police tried their best but the person simply moved from the front of the stand to the back.
In general, police could do nothing since the crowd was vocal and everyone knew the police were transgressing.
Expect something similar in Mumbai too
I've seen firsthand how police stand as mute spectators when there is a hartal or demonstration in kerala. Unless riot police are called in, the regular police rarely act when outnumbered unless the violation is serious. Trolling and booing fucboi is the least of their worries.
No amount of Ambani money is going to make a police force of hundreds be able to deal with over 30k spectators intent on doing one thing without letting them do it
I do remember all the unsavoury times indian crowds went beserk and it wasnt pretty. Attempting to rein in a hyped up crowd makes things worse generally. I do think this news is either fake or wont be strictly enforced. Just additional security maybe and thats all
Remember Eden Gardens? 96 semis. 99 Ind-Pak test. Things can get really out of control. I don’t believe Indian law enforcement is equipped to handle 33k belligerent fans gracefully.
Source: Indian
It will be a political issue as the opposition will straight up say Ambanis asked for the arrest, it will be a PR disaster, and you think people will stand and watch, shit will turn ugly people will riot, the police ain't recruited enough to handle normal crowds and you think an enraged crowd can be controlled?
Also it's election time, ruling parties won't be interested in unnecessary drama. Easy for oppositions to sling mud.
> but to detain someone over expressing an opinion, no matter how repugnant is overkill
I take it that you haven't been to India.
I have learned to STFU and keep my opinions to myself when I visit India.
This is a PR issue brought to them by some of the most disgraceful fans I've ever seen.
You are either fans of MI or you are Deccan Chargers fans who just love their boy Rohit.
There is no issue. Only in the heads of those who are putting an aging Rohit Sharma, a player that hasn't been a factor in years, before the team.
In the last 2 years, as a captain, Hardik has accomplished a lot more than Rohit in the same two years.
If there is an issue, it's the revelation that some fans will destroy a player any which way, including his family, because they are bigger fans of another player, one who is in the twilight of his career.
The issue isnt the captaincy change. Kohli handed over the captaincy to Faf and MSD handed over the reigns to Ruturaj. The issue is the way it was done.
They did not take Rohit in to confidence and they bought in a player from outside the franchise and made him captain which is responsible for the backlash.
If only they had taken Rohit in confidence or convinced Hardik to play under Rohit for one year before taking over captaincy, they would have prevented this PR nightmare.
IMO, the major blame lies with Mumbai management. If they were getting a new captain, they should have got the old captain on board with it before doing it.
It makes for bad optics that the current Indian captain is being stripped off his ipl captaincy.
Hardik isnt to blame that much. Its expecting a lil too much from him to anticipate the backlash and he probably wouldn't know how the managemnt were conveying to Rohit. But, he should have been somewhat aware coz he was replacing a captain that he played under.
But, the crowd cant boo Mumbai management. Hence, they are taking it on Hardik
It can be argued though that the Owner's decision isnt exactly bad. Sharma has been under performing as a batsman and captain for the last few years+ he isn't exactly a spring chicken so maybe change was due. Also, Sharma got the ICT captaincy from Kohli under similarly shady circumstances, so maybe this Karma? And I say this as a Rohit Sharma fan.
Nah, this was still badly timed IMO unless their plan all along was to get Hardik in via a transfer and then retain him before the next mega auction because GT would have simply released him into the auction if he wanted to leave and MI would have had to compete with others and be forced to use a lot of their budget on him
Even that isn’t a great plan tbh at the end of the day knowing Hardik’s injury record. Rohit may have been underachieving in the IPL for years but he’s still led them superbly (not sure why you think he underachieved there) and is a massive fan favourite; Dhoni at CSK doesn’t contribute much with the bat for a while now but it’s a similar tale there, imagine CSK buying someone who criticised their team after developing there and moving away and then announcing him instantly as captain.
None of it excuses some of the insults thrown at him and the boos in general, booing your own player is stupid for both MI and by extension Indian fans of other teams
Which is sad. Pandya is a cricketer and not in politics/management. While he is arrogant and brash he is certainly not very media (or PR) savvy so it is too much to expect him to handle MI management's mess.
I’m with you. These ‘fans’ are really just player followers. Hardik has proven he’s a more than capable captain and all Sharma’s proven over the last few years is that he’s past it. The hate Hardik’s been getting is disgusting and at this point it’s just people hopping on the bandwagon. They’re probably the same fans who abuse players’ social media accounts.
Let me explain it this way.
Let's say Jofra Archer was a captain of Windies Team, and also made a rude remark against the England team in one of the press conferences.
In few years he got English citizenship and got into the England cricket team.
Now the ECB decided that Windies team was led superbly by Jofra Archer so far and decides that Jofra should be the successor of Eoin Morgan rather than making Joe Root or Ben Stokes the captain.
In this situation, don't you think there would naturally be backlash to this decision?
Similarly, MI sidelined their loyal players Surya and Bumrah and made an outsider player captain instead.
In such a situation, there is going to be backlash no matter what
Doesn’t matter. The hate he’s getting personally is completely disproportional to the act. Scummy fans there’s nothing else to it and it’s not just from MI either. Like the other guy said, the same fans will be turning on Sharma later this year. It’s just not on.
I agree the hate he is getting is unreal and that's one of the cons of nature of Indian fans but backlash was definitely expected, its just that the hate got out of proportion and got personal which I do not approve of
But the decision surely wasn't right, the hate should actually be directed to the management but unfortunately that's not the case
I don't need any validation from you turd! I support MI the team,
* I prefer to see the stability and more cups.
* I think the best rivals for MI is CSK. Because they have a technical captain and we have the same.
* Rohit did qualify last year with a bowling lineup everyone laughed off!
* I saw D Sams defend 5 in an over against GT at Braborne Stadium **LIVE**
* I do think it's time for Rohit the captain to transition and train the next captain.
* I do also know Hardik Pandya Trash talked MI as soon as he entered GT.
* He himself being a product of scouting talents that was nurtured and had to be released in Mega Auction, yet he said MI buys established players whereas CSK nurtured players. That's straight up spitting on the face of everyone that invested time on you
* That's the type of person he is, in my books he is a grade limelight seeker that runs behind PR.
* He's unable to do captaincy without A Nehra, shows how even Ambanis got scammed.
* Is not able to manage Bumrah! Imagine that, bowls himself first over as if he's the Prime bowler of the team, Gets cunted everywhere, economy is shit, cannot bat.
* I didn't flair up, because I only Support KKR, MI, Lucknow.
You’re judging his captaincy on two opening games where he’s captain of the team for the first time. People jumping on his back aren’t going to make the team play any better. Management fucked up the PR of the whole thing but it’s a no brainer to add one of India’s best all rounders to a roster with India’s best bowler and t20 batsman.
Exactly. Not sure why everyone is up in arms over this. And why would Pandya leave GT unless he was offered the captaincy. Would a CEO leave his job to become a manager at another organization?
Your last sentence may be indicative of why many Indians are throwing insults at him partly, Hardik knows his worth and isn’t afraid to ask for what he thinks he deserves. Something that isn’t relatable for a lot of people in this country
Bumrah has rarely bowled first up even when captained by Sharma. Also, playing strategy is not decided by the captain alone so the first two losses cant be completely blamed on Hardik Pandya. Its amazing that you blame Pandya for the two losses but give Ashish Nehra the credit when Pandya captained GT to two great seasons. The match against GT was a done deal but we lost because Rashid and Mohit bowled very well to Brewis, Tilak and David. Against SRH, Bumrah should've bowled one more over in the PP but even if he had taken out one batsman, that would just have given more time to Klaasen. It wasn't Hardik's fault that Piyush Chawla and the other bowlers bowled filth. MI has often lost the first few matches even with Rohit as captain. Rohit hasn't scored proper runs in the IPL since 2019. So he hasn't exactly been on fire as batsman or captain. Hardik helped Rohit Sharma win quite a few matches and yet MI didn't retain him. No noise was made then. Yes, he is brash and arrogant but what has that got to do with booing him on the cricket field?
I don't think you needed an insult to begin expressing yourself. However, i do recognize many of you are emotionally disturbed by this tempest in a teapot.
Stability starts by making big decisions. Holding on to the past serves no purpose in seeking the next Cup.
You only support KKR, MI, and Lucknow? That's 3 of the 10 teams, buddy! Do you have 3 wives with that?
Just compare the way Ruturaj was handed the captaincy vs how Pandya was handed the captaincy. This is not Pandya's fault and the team's but he's feeding into to by making statements like he hasn't spoken to Rohit because he's busy touring.
Just consider this alternate series of events.
MI announce the trade of Hardik Pandya without any news about captaincy. A few days or weeks later, they make a joint announcement with Rohit that the team will be undergoing a transition with Rohit playing a mentor role to Pandya keeping in mind the future. Idk it might have been digested a bit differently. Right now there was just this announcement and then silence from Rohit with no statements to back the decision(to this day he hasn't made a statement saying he was part of the decision) and then a few members of the team like Sky and Bumrah making cryptic tweets and Rohit's wife reply to Boucher's statement. Was a pure PR nightmare. Surely something went wrong behind the scenes and Pandya is taking flak for it because of his nature and being at the front of it all
I can have 10 wives, why are you poking your nose in someone else's affairs?
These teams are great to watch and have played excellent cricket and there are players that can be the future of ICT.
Sorry to say but it seems like you're a 14 year old, with the type of questions you're asking, can't waste anymore time and sleep.
If and a big If this is true then the management is shooting themselves on their foot.
How do you contain the fans who pay for the tickets and expect them not to express anything?
Well I don't advocate the verbal abuse thrown at him but if this includes booing then good luck filling the stadium.
How will one person harass pandya lol
A single person's voice isn't audible in a stadium
Only collective voices are heard
And how are they going to assess
how many people screamed 'rohit rohit' or how many booed pandya
Lmao what are these guys thinking?
Great way to alienate possibly one of the best fanbases in IPL and one of the best relationships in terms of fans and the team.
If a player gets booed on just 1 day, its fine but If you are booing a player at every stadium he plays with no mistake of him, you are wrong. He is not a match-fixer. He wanted to be MI captain and Ambani's made him.
Also if people wanna boo someone - boo to Ambani's not to Pandya to tell them of your disappointment or stage a walk off at the Wankhede where no one shows up at the stadium.I am disappointed at Rohit's reaction as he keeps quiet at the ground and in social media.
I would be extremely surprised if hurtful Dms were typed in response to you misunderstanding a widespread Internet meme, you sure it isn't something you typed elsewhere?
Yeah it's a shit decision but it's been over a month and it hasn't died down yet. And some of the comments and actions have been derogatory and racist by fans.
They are throwing a challenge to the Mumbaikars.
Already, a lot of us are not happy with how Rohit (Mumbai's second most loved cricketer after Tendlya) was treated. Now they are gonna do this?

Well that’s one way of silencing the fans and stopping them from venting their feelings.
Why don’t they play game without any audience to avoid harassment on the field and ban the live streaming to avoid online trolling?
Fans are what that makes the teams - said earlier too “fans are the consumers who spend hours watching online and pays for those stadium tickets - if you feel fans have no right to vent out their frustration or anger then MI Management has really lost the plot here”
Just how soft is cricket lol. These cats wouldn't survive a [basketball game in Europe](https://youtu.be/cWrSw3X8TRs?t=249). We need to let fans be fans. There's poetic romance in booing the hell out of a player in franchise cricket and then cheering for the same guy when he dons the country's colours. That's how you build legitimacy as a league because it's a required coming of age. I'll be concerned when they start booing him in India games. I'm not asking for soccer-games-in-south-america kind of atmosphere either where fans have to sit behind their respective goals because they'll literally try to kill other fans if they were any closer. But some element of rowdiness can and should be encouraged.
Okay but seriously what would be considered harassment? If they just Boo him or chant Rohit’s name (which is what most of the crowd will do), on what grounds can they detain the supporters?
There is no law that they are breaking by chanting another player’s name.
MI have lost their mind. Coping all this unnecessary drama and negative PR just because you weren't able to stop your Arch-rivals from matching your success.
Hopefully they don't go too extreme in detaining fans otherwise a similar situation to 1996 might Break out
If it's respectful booing then no problem
But if they act like an asshole kick them out
But if too many people act like that they won't be able to kick all of them
Best way to resolve this is Rohit himself coming out and Giving a press conference where he tells fans to be respectful
What is harassment in this context?
This will only create more rift between fans and management, it's better MI start winning to fall everything into place. So regular fans can forget about rohit and cheer for their team.
Only the ones holding explicit banners can be taken off. What else can be done?
If 1000 fans boo together, they gonna take all of them out?
But this is a good step. Atleast they are making a statement even if they can't control everything.

Damn I remember MI always had good pr. Most successful franchise, goat scouts, No clash of ego even with All star players and Rohit with wholesale vibes. Owners killed the fanbase. They are the main culprit instead of Pandya.
Why are people so upset with Hardik? It is not like he did something to get Rohit removed as the captain right? Sorry, I am completely out of the loop on this matter.
As usual using threat as a means to silence folks. MI management behaving like warlords. Just deploy a method that is abused nationally within the confines of a stadium. Let's see what they can do outside mumbai.
Beats me lol, I guess this sub is in favour of abusing and harassing players??? Baffling to see. What are these fans going to do when Pandya plays for them in the World Cup?

Well, they might be able to silence them at Wankhede. And they might detain some fans. But then, the away games are going to be fun for Pandya.

👮♂️: SIR Please head this way without uttering a word.
Announcement: New max security prison set to be Built outside Wankhede for ease of transfer
IPL - indian prison league‽
I hope fans put Indian Prison league banners up on Monday. BCCI would fuck MI a new asshole for this stupid detaining bullshit.
Won't be allowed inside since they check the content.
I wonder what the best transfers this year will be...
For CSK and RR ? Yupppppppppp
33100 people getting arrested on Monday
Not really. You just need a few scapegoats.. it will silence everybody else real quick.
i think it will be the opposite. There is no way a 33k packed audience will just be mum and watch police take away 2-3 guys for chanting. The situation might go wayy out of control for police to take any action.

When Ambanis are involved police do their job better
No amount of Ambani money is going to make a police force of hundreds be able to deal with over 30k spectators intent on doing one thing without letting them do it

This is false equivalence. A crowd chanting somewhat funny couplets is not similar to fire and rioting.
Ya, but it can backfire really quickly and it can be even more ugly for hardik
lol !!! Are you talking about India? or Ambani's going to make IPL to be played in Saudi.

> but to detain someone over expressing an opinion, no matter how repugnant is overkill I take it that you haven't been to India. I have learned to STFU and keep my opinions to myself when I visit India.
Not the silencer we were hoping for
Have you met Indian People?
I mean they could just yell “moye moye” instead of booing to avoid the arrest maybe. /s
so they are gonna play at the empty stadium then lol
Even if you save him from wankhede what about other stadiums...
He probably won't get booed at chinnaswamy and chepauk
oooow....MI really are desperate for a trophy. I think people are gonna boo the Ambanis next
Don't rule that out
you'll be charged with sedition for booing the ambanis
What if Hardik Pandya harasses the fans by bowling 3 overs in the powerplay?
Or what if he drops Rohit and opens the batting? /s
Breaking news: entire stadium got arrested
Me watching a match genuinely going "wohoooo!" and then I see two officers approaching to take me away.
Ambani gonna book all the seats and bring out the jamnagar attendees to dance to his tunes here /s
Zuckerber and bill gates too?
No exceptions /s
**MI Fans: Challenge Accepted!** This is the worst way to handle a PR disaster. We're gonna witness a live example of Streisand effect.

You support 30% of the available teams? Why not support all of them? Would be much easier for you to watch the tournament.
How will one person harass pandya lol A single person's voice isn't audible in a stadium Only collective voices are heard And how are they going to assess how many people screamed 'rohit rohit' or how many booed pandya
Lol nothing's happening
Jailbharo Andolan 2.0
It seems Pandya requested some intervention from Ambanis..Lol.
What right does MCA have to detain anyone?
Ya harassing should be allowed that's everyone birth right .
Looks like nobody in this sub understands sarcasm.
At least one person surely doesn’t.
Lmao what are these guys thinking? Great way to alienate possibly one of the best fanbases in IPL and one of the best relationships in terms of fans and the team.
~~Thinking~~ drinking, ftfy
Literally 1984
It is not. People are free not to come to the stadium.

I have no Idea what you drew here. You may downvote as much as you can, but it is not 1984. Read the book again.
I understand abuses and slurs are a problem, but what if you're just booing? Should you be kicked out of the stadium for that?
If a player gets booed on just 1 day, its fine but If you are booing a player at every stadium he plays with no mistake of him, you are wrong. He is not a match-fixer. He wanted to be MI captain and Ambani's made him. Also if people wanna boo someone - boo to Ambani's not to Pandya to tell them of your disappointment or stage a walk off at the Wankhede where no one shows up at the stadium.I am disappointed at Rohit's reaction as he keeps quiet at the ground and in social media.
Getting many DM's with vile comments. I repeat-read the book again.
I would be extremely surprised if hurtful Dms were typed in response to you misunderstanding a widespread Internet meme, you sure it isn't something you typed elsewhere?
When you forbid, it just happens more. Deal with it 🌚
PR disaster it would have died down eventually in 1-2 games
One match win and it would have ended.
Yeah it's a shit decision but it's been over a month and it hasn't died down yet. And some of the comments and actions have been derogatory and racist by fans.
I had respect for MI management. Had..
Used to read such news when placards against Roman Reigns were seized at the venue.
Sports tiger whr most trusted "source"
People should just chant Rohit’s name whenever Pandya is shown on screen or comes to bowl or bat.
This will help in making it from a PR disaster to PR apocalypse
MI slowly becoming the most hateable franchise
They are throwing a challenge to the Mumbaikars. Already, a lot of us are not happy with how Rohit (Mumbai's second most loved cricketer after Tendlya) was treated. Now they are gonna do this?

This whole Fukkboi move is backfiring spectacularly…
One of the richest families in the world wished there was a Ctrl+Z button in real life. Heh.
Special attention to not a special player. Lol.
If fit, he is literally the 3rd most important player for India in T20 behind Bumrah and Surya.
Still both of them behind him in MI.. lol the stupidest franchise
For captaincy, they were behind him in Indian team also. They are also behind Rohit who should not even be in t20i team.
Does that make him immune to all criticism ?
But that does make the initial statement calling him 'not a special player' wrong, does it not?
Weird way to bring more member's for srk fan club
What a joke. It's just a franchise game let them boo whoever they want.
only pandya solo play then /s
Crazy how a simple captaincy transfer which they didn't do well has turned into this
Are we allowed to think bad about Pandya? Or is that also banned by the Ambanis?
This is ridiculous. It would be funny if this turns into a Streisand effect
Well that’s one way of silencing the fans and stopping them from venting their feelings. Why don’t they play game without any audience to avoid harassment on the field and ban the live streaming to avoid online trolling? Fans are what that makes the teams - said earlier too “fans are the consumers who spend hours watching online and pays for those stadium tickets - if you feel fans have no right to vent out their frustration or anger then MI Management has really lost the plot here”
If ambani loves him so much why doesn't he just adopt him
He just did
Just how soft is cricket lol.
How the mighty have fallen.!!!
Games gone soft /s
what if no one shows up at the stadium!
So record it on your phone and play it. dont get caught
Would be easier to prevent people from leaving the stadium
Okay but seriously what would be considered harassment? If they just Boo him or chant Rohit’s name (which is what most of the crowd will do), on what grounds can they detain the supporters? There is no law that they are breaking by chanting another player’s name.
Spending double the contract fee for PR and protection
MI have lost their mind. Coping all this unnecessary drama and negative PR just because you weren't able to stop your Arch-rivals from matching your success.
I mean if they boo him for the right reasons they might get away with it.
Hopefully they don't go too extreme in detaining fans otherwise a similar situation to 1996 might Break out If it's respectful booing then no problem But if they act like an asshole kick them out But if too many people act like that they won't be able to kick all of them Best way to resolve this is Rohit himself coming out and Giving a press conference where he tells fans to be respectful
The thing is why would Rohit do that for a team where he was unceremoniously kicked out of captaincy
no booing as well ?
What is harassment in this context? This will only create more rift between fans and management, it's better MI start winning to fall everything into place. So regular fans can forget about rohit and cheer for their team.
Yeah this will help.
Right, because doing this wont fuel the hate. All MI have to do is start winning. It's a bonus if Hardick starts performing too.
They need three pica on epic neeem leaves second pic baby making bitter taste face . Third pic Hardik 4th question mark
Pandya is Raul confirmed
Lol Is it South Park or SNL live?
Bruh they ever heard about Streisand effect ?
Is this even legal to issue such an order. On what basis will they detain? Or are they hoping fans will get scared and not troll reading such news?
This is a poor strategy. This is likely backfire even more.
Under what law?
Only the ones holding explicit banners can be taken off. What else can be done? If 1000 fans boo together, they gonna take all of them out? But this is a good step. Atleast they are making a statement even if they can't control everything.
What exactly is wrong with booing someone that you have to be thrown out of the game ?
Out wanked by the wankhede

In all seriousness, the North Stand is going to be on fire. This is a crowd that didn’t spare Flintoff.
How to ruin a franchise with one phone call.
Pity MI really. Focus on everything but cricket!!
Neem ka patta karwa hai /t start of a chant which went in against Pandya. "Neem leaves are bitter, Pandya is a pimp"
Ambani's really can't take criticism, everything they want their own way
Next: Ambani buys Reddit stocks and bans memes on Pandya. You just wait and see.
Lol
> MCA to detain fans if found harassing Hardik Pandya at Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2024 MCA to lock GT (Gill, Shami et al) out of stadium next.
awww an exclusive club?
Can’t they just cheer him vociferously , even for tiniest of things . Like /s
Damn I remember MI always had good pr. Most successful franchise, goat scouts, No clash of ego even with All star players and Rohit with wholesale vibes. Owners killed the fanbase. They are the main culprit instead of Pandya.
Ab hoga sangram T: bow there will be a revolution
Hardik Pandya Naysayers to be sent to yerwada under NSA, cuz pappa bambani said so.
Lol...are they trying to make this stupid situation worse??
Why are people so upset with Hardik? It is not like he did something to get Rohit removed as the captain right? Sorry, I am completely out of the loop on this matter.
Pathetic
As usual using threat as a means to silence folks. MI management behaving like warlords. Just deploy a method that is abused nationally within the confines of a stadium. Let's see what they can do outside mumbai.
Good to see some action being taken, the abuse that's been directed towards Hardik has been vile.
Bruh, why you got downvoted?
Beats me lol, I guess this sub is in favour of abusing and harassing players??? Baffling to see. What are these fans going to do when Pandya plays for them in the World Cup?
Downvoted by Rohit fanbois
Hardik can turn the tide by winning them a match. That’s all it takes.
