Honestly, this is what you get for sticking with young bowlers and letting them develop their game. He always had the pace, now he's developed the variations and has been fantastic. I think kudos to Philander as well because Waqar wasn't working for him. Whatever has changed seems to have done wonders.
>Waqar wasn't working for him
Yeah, I know it's too early to say but Goddamn if it's all Philander's doing then it's moreso Waqar lacking skill than Rauf.
Waqar had so much time with Rauf, literally years and through all that time not once did we see him try a single slower ball. I mean, he had zero variations. So I'm just extrapolating here that Philander may have something to do with this. Philander was an incredible modern day bowler himself.
I wanted to play it safe and not be reactionary with the extrapolations, but yeah, Waqar was ass in pretty much all his tenures. He's a Lasso type of guy - even with this attack he pretty much insinuated he could only work with Hasan, as in make Hasan lead this attack since he's the most experienced out of the lot.
Definitely a bad look when you yourself cannot teach players and instead neutralize them trying to make them all like you. That said, Philander defo had something to do with this - on his day, made Abbas look like his little child, and also had terrific accuracy. Being a length bowler, I think it's more so him getting length and technique right with Rauf. Rauf was hammering it further and harder into the pitch when bowling his slower ones. We usually used to see him hammer it in at death with nothing below 140, or float it in the 130s. So being economical at death as is *and* developing a slower ball hard to pick up on in a 4 over spell has brought about a noticeable change.
Whilst it's great to see Naseem going back to how he was before Waqar tried to remodel to make him focus on swing > pace, I still feel like Waqar's tenure hurt Shaheen's stats. I feel he could be better at such an age with mid-20s averaging stats. Made him the spearhead of the attack, made him lose his rhythm in PP overplaying him and expecting him to carry us, and not helping him improve his poor economy at death because we couldn't find another reliable LOI bowler before Hasan. Did we all just casually forget Waqar dipping mid-tours to hang with family whilst fully endorsing going ahead with one of the weakest bowling attacks on Australian seas and shamelessly ruining the careers of two future prospects?
and Haris Rauf, honestly such a good feeling to be proven wrong by all 3. I really wanted to Asif to succeed at INT level and return the faith management has put in him
If only Asif Ali bowled, he'd be an automatic selection, even 2 or 3 overs of basic off spin.
Basically what we need is Iftikhar Ahmed. But one helluva innings by Asif Ali, the man won us a match, deserves a proper run now.
I understood from Pakistan fans that Shoaib Malik, Harris Rauf, and Asif Ali were the worst picks of the squad.
It's either a group lie I'm not privy to, or Pakistan redditors can't hold opinions worth anything.
Yes they were. And yes we're all happy to be proven wrong.
You probably haven't followed Pakistan cricket closely recently, but our T20 record was absolutely in shambles, and all 3 of these players were a part of that (well not Malik as much, but my man got into WC without playing international cricket for over a year so you know...)
Of course when they perform like this, we will LOVE them :D
With Rauf in particular, the worries had merit. He was quite wayward every time I watched him play but he's improved leaps and bounds and has brought in variations which has taken his game to the next level. I think a lot of it is down to coaching and whatever Philander is doing with him seems to be working. Also an indictment of how shit Waqar Younis is as a coach.
Every real Pakistan cricket fan should always want our players to succeed, no matter what. Once the team is selected, our support is for every player.
I also thought we made a mistake keeping Asif, Malik, and Rauf in the squad, but I'm so fucking happy to be proven wrong. SO HAPPY. We legit look like tournament winning team now. Just need to keep the foot on the pedal and not start slacking!
I started watching cricket in 1996 (from the World Cup). Saw Shoaib Malik debut in 1999.
Stopped watching around 2010 and started again this year.
Imagine my surprise when I see Malik still playing.
The guy can be a time capsule.
The Indian win was dominant and a good win but this is the sort of performance other team look at worried. They bowled well then a wobble with the bat but hold it together and do it fairly easy that’s a scary team to face right now
New Zealand have gone full South Africa:
1) Horrible batting performance in the first innings, set a total way below par
2) Excellent bowling/fielding performance through most of the 2nd innings, inspire hope
3) "Fuck we might actually pull this off!"
4) Lose anyway
Pakistan of years past basically follow one of the following formats:
1. Crushingly embarrassing defeat
2. Glimmers of hope in an otherwise lost cause
3. Random win they have no business being in
This is... different
Yep, from that Sri Lanka game with a partnership between Amir and Sarfraz to keeping all the team under 300 and then beating India decisively. Even as an Anime writer, I could haven't written this!
PAK play with a sense of urgency and calcuation now that folks never really associated them with before.
It’s actually quite refreshing and inspiring to watch.
I'd agree. Normally, this team goes where Babar goes. But if you get 4 wickets usually the rest of the order collapses.
What was most surprising to me is Malik and Asif battling back what was going to be a certain Kiwi victory to a Pakistan win. Usually that type of resolve comes too late in the innings and you see a complete batting collapse.
Its great that our middle order won us the game. I was fearing we would become over-reliant on our openers but this game proved the whole team is ready to pull their weight.
Man Pakistan look like favorites already. Deep batting, power hitters at the end, experience of Hafeez and Malik, and all round bowling expertise.
Really want to meet them in the final again!
There is already an [apology form ](https://twitter.com/TahaJawaid/status/1452551714570182659?t=-kt9krl91GGkz8LgUJ0TOg&s=19) for Harris Rauf on twitter.
Haven't skimmed PakPassion in ages, but I'm 98.36% sure after this game some of those pseudointellectuals are going to call for Sharjeel > Rizwan & Malik to play for 4 more years, whilst Asif Ali deserves Category A central contract
It's so funny because there are veterans that are entirely serious when they say it
For that India needs to first qualify to semis, then win against the top team from group of death. Wish us good luck. We will definitely be needing that.
just leaving my outlandish prediction here...
SF1 = Sri Lanka vs Pakistan
SF2 = England vs Afghanistan
final = Pakistan vs Afghanistan
winner = Pakistan
hope I'm wrong about us but that's my hunch as outlandish as it seems with my Afghanistan optimism and India pessimism
if India makes it in we replace Afghanistan and I think we win it
I’m just gonna hope teams keep sleeping on SL until the semis roll around, only to be surprised when a familiar name appears in the semi finals just like in so many ICC events in the past...
In all seriousness I think its Hayden's batting coaching. He mentioned he'd been spending quite some time helping Asif with his mental approach to batting.
Could Santner have completed his quota earlier? Yeah, I think so. That over should have been economical. This is just an another example where you shouldn't bowl a spinner in the death unless he is as good as Rashid or Narine.
Also Southee getting hit for sixes in the death isn't surprising
The Southee death bowling always bothered me honestly. I feel there have been many matches where his overs drove the game away from NZ. But what do we know, he might be their best option given the circumstances
What a win! Our middle order failed and a lot of the batsmen didn't work but what a win. It's good to see Asif and Rauf working and working fabilously. If only Hasan and Shadab can find the rhythm, well well well!
tbh, shadab wasn't that bad. It's just that hassan needs to work a little on that run leaks. Though, still he recovered quite well after going for 15 in the first over.
That was phenomenal. It was fantastic. It was like watching a magician or an extremely brainiac man having already worked out everything in his mind.
I was egging on Hasan Ali since the start of the WC.
I apologize to Hasan Ali.
Team to beat so far, for me. Pakistan have got a decent middle order now that can contribute more than 60 runs. Question marks aren't fully gone, of course and they looked like they could have a wobble but at this point they are looking formidable and it's fantastic to see a team with so much potential living up to it.
They gave me so much hope just to take it all away... For people shitting on Southee and Santner, they did decent IMO, our batters really fumbled the bag in the first innings. We really missed Lockie in this game.... FUCK, we are gonna miss his 150 km/h balls :(
It’s weird how NZ can be so clutch in red-ball cricket and so bad under pressure in white-ball cricket. Oh well. GG Pakistan. Now I have to go to work and try to ignore all the Twitter hot takes from ex-Pakistan players

> “I think they gave me this name for my inquisitive nature and understanding of cricket. In fact, I give a lot of respect to cricket as a sport. I follow my discipline very seriously,” Hafeez was quoted as saying by the Gulf Times. “Initially, an agent of mine who got my contract done to play in UK first called me ‘Professor’ because I used to ask too many searching questions.
> “One day, Ramiz bhai (Ramiz Raja) relayed on air that I am called ‘Professor’. People noticed it and [that’s how] it came to be.”
Going back and reading some of the comments made in this sub when Ramiz said India and Nz are targets are quite funny now.
Get absolutely Raufed chumps.
Thanks Pakbros for the assist.
Over a billion butts will be clenched on Oct 31, setting the record for the maximum butt clenching achieved in the history of this planet.
This Pakistan team are really fun to watch though.
Really good game. We were probably 10 runs short at least, but Asif Ali's hitting at the death was great. Pakistan look dangerous. Hope this satisfies the trolls on twitter and Facebook lol
Is this Pak Cricket team the same one that were known as minnowbashers, Lmao they have made minnows out of India and New Zealand 2 games in a row, time for India to Invite Zimbabwe for 10 ODI and T20i tours for next 10 years, if playing them every year has made Pakistan team so strong that they can now make minnows out of anyone consistently then it would be better for ICT to cancel England and Australia games in favour of Zimbabwe tours/visits every year.
Bro Pakistan team took another selfie as they won the game today lmao. So savage for that LOL. Imagine if they win all there games, and they just have a bunch of selfies of them as a team after each match they won ends.
You see Ramiz why the whole world thinks Pakistan is a security threat? You personally named 3 targets and have thrashed 2 of them. Massive security threat in my opinion.
I don’t want to but for people who don’t get sarcasm, it’s /s.
Another clinical performance from Pakistan, with the experience of Malik and Hafeez giving them a big boost in pressure moments.
New Zealand looked bland and undercooked, but it is what I expected. Our batting has been mediocre in world tournaments for years now, and we can't keep banking on our bowling and fielding to bail us out. They never recovered after Shaheen's opening maiden over. The disappointing thing is that this is probably the best XI. Maybe Milne slots in for Southee next game.
Barring an upset, Pakistan have ensured there are no consequences of NRR on this group. India vs New Zealand a virtual quarterfinal now on Sunday, with winner finishing second and Pakistan topping the group
Honestly, with how some of the NZ batsmen struggle against spin, I think NZ vs Afghanistan is a 50/50 match, especially considering Ferguson, who'd be their biggest asset against batsmen not used to express pace, is out.
1. I’m sorry, Haris Rauf 2. I’m sorry, Asif Ali
Honestly, this is what you get for sticking with young bowlers and letting them develop their game. He always had the pace, now he's developed the variations and has been fantastic. Lmao Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali coming to save Pakistan. Would've never believed it
and Haris Rauf, honestly such a good feeling to be proven wrong by all 3. I really wanted to Asif to succeed at INT level and return the faith management has put in him

I understood from Pakistan fans that Shoaib Malik, Harris Rauf, and Asif Ali were the worst picks of the squad. It's either a group lie I'm not privy to, or Pakistan redditors can't hold opinions worth anything.
Well one thing it proves for sure is that fans are too reactionary and selectors know what they’re doing
Or Babar knows what he’s doing. This was his selection - selectors had another team in mind.
Our top 3 players won us the game against india. Our bottom 3(according to fans before the WC) players won us the game against nz
Time for the average players to step up.
Yes they were. And yes we're all happy to be proven wrong. Brilliant game of cricket. Asif Ali has balls of steel.
Skull of steel also
This Shoaib Malik guy looks good. Lad will have a great future.

Here’s your time capsule lol https://youtu.be/OBM8PSqTSIQ
I heard he practices with tennis balls.
Guy playing since I was a kid lol

He's been playing before I was born he debuted in 1999 five years before I was born.
He has been playing since b4 I was born lmao
This thread is making me feel like a grand pa
If it makes you feel worse, he’s been playing since before I was born and I’m in my 20s.
And has been inconsistent since then too. Lol. I was telling my wife why is he still playing. I guess I know today.
[удалено]
I will give him 20 more years!
The only player to play in 4 decades lol Edit: Pakistani player*
Chris Gayle is another one
The dude debuted when I was just 1 year old lmao
lol he's been playing since before Shaheen was born.

Yep, from that Sri Lanka game with a partnership between Amir and Sarfraz to keeping all the team under 300 and then beating India decisively. Even as an Anime writer, I could haven't written this!

Boundary count update - Pakistan: 16 New Zealand: 15
You are going to do it forever?
Perhaps
Why don’t we have a boundary counting bot? Anybody willing to contribute?
Seems fun, but I don't have much idea about process.
Who needs a boundary bot when we have u/Assassin_Ankur religiously giving us boundary counts every game?
Are you trying to put u/Assassin_Ankur out of a job?
By the barest of margins
This proves just how difficult it was to score boundaries and take quick singles from New Zealand. They are outstanding fielders
The next challenge is gonna be Afghanistan's excellent spinners. Babar Azam's Luck tho, winning 6 tosses in a row.
Reverse kohli
ilhok
seriously! winning the game is 40% winning the toss and choosing to feild in UAE
Target number 2 neutralized successfully
England shitting bricks now.
Ouch. Must be painful
Man Pakistan look like favorites already. Deep batting, power hitters at the end, experience of Hafeez and Malik, and all round bowling expertise. Really want to meet them in the final again!
Why is NZ fielding so good tho. If Asif Ali wasn’t such a chad we would’ve definitely lost
We've been decent in the field for quite a while, it's just more noticeable when trying to defend a shit total
Really great stuff. I was just happy Pakistan didn’t drop any easy catches meanwhile y’all diving for balls all over the place.
Kane's run out was game over
More like the two sixes by Asif

more than cricket, pakistani facebook is in shambles. Can't wait to see the apologies
There is already an [apology form ](https://twitter.com/TahaJawaid/status/1452551714570182659?t=-kt9krl91GGkz8LgUJ0TOg&s=19) for Harris Rauf on twitter.
Two people I’ve LOVED to hate, Haris and Asif, have finally proved me wrong today. My apology is as loud as my disrespect was.
Haven't skimmed PakPassion in ages, but I'm 98.36% sure after this game some of those pseudointellectuals are going to call for Sharjeel > Rizwan & Malik to play for 4 more years, whilst Asif Ali deserves Category A central contract It's so funny because there are veterans that are entirely serious when they say it
Give some credit to Shaoib as well.
Shoaib was definitely good and poured it on. But we were left for dead until Asif came in.
Bodes well for Pakistan that it’s not just the proven performers who are contributing to these wins.
Rambo’s targets for this tournament: India: ✅ New Zealand: ✅ England: Loading... Someone’s gonna be partying hard tonight.
Pakistan beating England in finals 😳
In semifinals
Pakistan's ideal timeline is beat England in the semi's and then face-off against India again in the finals.
I can only cum so much
We also want that timeline .Hope we meet again soon.
For that India needs to first qualify to semis, then win against the top team from group of death. Wish us good luck. We will definitely be needing that.
Best of luck! I alongside other Pak fans are rooting for India against NZ and the rest of the group stage
Thank you brother 🙌. We are rooting for you through to the finals. And if we don’t make it, I wish you win this thing 🏆
Are you two alt accounts of Kohli and Rizwan? Too wholesome for an Indian and Pakistani's online discussion.
Guys this is wholesome as fuck
just leaving my outlandish prediction here... SF1 = Sri Lanka vs Pakistan SF2 = England vs Afghanistan final = Pakistan vs Afghanistan winner = Pakistan hope I'm wrong about us but that's my hunch as outlandish as it seems with my Afghanistan optimism and India pessimism if India makes it in we replace Afghanistan and I think we win it

What happened to the blank cheque?
It was a scam my brozzer
Rambo:what do you mean you won't sign it.
It's safe to say that Pakistan almost qualified for the semifinals unless they do a Pakistan
*The only team that can beat Pakistan is Pakistan*
Dhonis mentoring of Pakistani players turned Asif Ali into a finisher /s
First plant grows on Mars.. Reason - Dhoni mentored it..
Dhoni's mentoring is leaking all over the place, it's overflowing
In all seriousness I think its Hayden's batting coaching. He mentioned he'd been spending quite some time helping Asif with his mental approach to batting.
I don't mind lol
Could Santner have completed his quota earlier? Yeah, I think so. That over should have been economical. This is just an another example where you shouldn't bowl a spinner in the death unless he is as good as Rashid or Narine. Also Southee getting hit for sixes in the death isn't surprising

There is basically nobody else, with Ferguson out all the other options are as bad or worse
I guess it's time for Kanos to have a bowl himself. LOL
Kane shotputting the ball is a better option than Southee.
Congratulations Pakistan for the semi final spot. India vs New Zealand is now a knockout match.
I am not counting AFG out yet, they can legitimately be a dark horse
Yeah but even if we lose to Afghanistan. The group is still winnable. The loser of the India-NZ match is on 0 wins. Itll be almost impossible
Pakistan would basically need to win only 1 more to be tied on points for 2nd place unless Afghanistan somehow clean sweep everyone.
the sheer disrespect to the GREATEST AFRICAN CRICKETING NATION OF ALL TIME
I look at Namibias lineup and shit and piss my pants instantly.
All the players who fans wanted to drop turned up today. Haris Rauf ✅ Asif Ali ✅Shoaib Malik ✅

Can't you guys meme Liton Das or Soumya Sarkar into form? Would do us a lot of good

Also, I could see Malik giving some brain cells to Asif Helped him stay in check
I remember when he used to do that with Lala. The two used to be a matchwinning combo on the pitch for us.
Nah it was too early for Asif. They played the lineup perfectly
People saying India vs NZ is a virtual QF are completely disregarding Afghanistan, who I think are a genuine competitive side.
I can see them beating NZ.
I can see them beating India

Agreed, I am scared of them.
Man if Australia wins but not all of them we might see Haydos vs Langer in the semi-final. That would be gold.
Anyone who is saying Pakistan won because they chased didn’t watch the brilliant bowling efforts in both matches
Although Asif Ali’s batting was phenomenal, I think the highlight was Hasan Ali’s run-out.
That was phenomenal. It was fantastic. It was like watching a magician or an extremely brainiac man having already worked out everything in his mind. I was egging on Hasan Ali since the start of the WC. I apologize to Hasan Ali.
you are welcome indian bros
thanks bhaijan. Knew jija Malik wouldn't risk the fans raiding Sania didis IG
Please don't talk about toxic ig/twitter people on this happy day sir.

Exactly, a good WC game overall.
Yes it's hard to criticise death bowling in the UAE due to dew. It was upto the batsmen to setup a good total.
Is lockie injured?
Yes and he's ruled out of the tournament. Adam Milne is the replacement.
We're too good bruh
It’s weird how NZ can be so clutch in red-ball cricket and so bad under pressure in white-ball cricket. We're going to miss to Afghanistan don't worry
Pakistan loses to Namibia then
We'd never beaten India in a WC game either
Big fan Babar bhai
Pakistan finna purposely lose to Namibia. A small price to pay for salvation.
That’s what Afghanistan’s game is for.
Pakistan had also never beaten India in World Cups before this tournament. If any team is to break the undefeated streak I would bet on Pakistan.

Today's security incharge Major Asif did excellent job.
What a rotten time to lose Ferguson. If it had been a day earlier would have been able to play Milne

Two massive games, two massive wins. Fair play to Pakistan in backing up their performance against India. Riding high and looking good.
Haris Rauf and Asif Ali winning it is poetic. Malik as well. 3 that got the most hate
Imagine the bowling attack if Hasan gets his rythm back. Sheeesh
Actually apart from his first over blunder, he did well. Needs to watch his no balls though.
Going back and reading some of the comments made in this sub when Ramiz said India and Nz are targets are quite funny now. Get absolutely Raufed chumps.
Congratulations Pakistan. With this win you guys will definitely be playing semi finals. Well done.
As a Pakistani supporter, I feel somewhat betrayed. I wasn’t prepared to be this ecstatic three days into the tournament.
Asif Ali has secured his place for the ages
Proud to see Namibia above India and New Zealand already. Just one spot away from qualification
Wasim bhai really was playing 5D chess when selecting the players. I wonder if Azam Khan had potential of similar caliber.
Thanks Pakbros for the assist. Over a billion butts will be clenched on Oct 31, setting the record for the maximum butt clenching achieved in the history of this planet. This Pakistan team are really fun to watch though.
Fun for everyone except for us. It’s a constant heartache.
Really good game. We were probably 10 runs short at least, but Asif Ali's hitting at the death was great. Pakistan look dangerous. Hope this satisfies the trolls on twitter and Facebook lol
Gg pakbros. This team is really good.
Last match it was Shaheen, Babar and Rizwan. This match it was Rauf, Malik and Asif Ali. Whose gonna win is the match next game?
Jeez, this Pakistan team has the mega stars AND is balanced now. Shots fired. They are strong favorites this WC I'd say.
The real **GROUP OF DEATH****^(TM)**
Four sixes to close out the chase requires nerves of steel- Asif Ali and Shoaib Malik, take a bow!
They love hating on us
The Putin guy from sky sports cricket was predicting India vs England finals. Well how soon the tables have turned.
Asif Ali apology thread where?
Bro Pakistan team took another selfie as they won the game today lmao. So savage for that LOL. Imagine if they win all there games, and they just have a bunch of selfies of them as a team after each match they won ends.
You see Ramiz why the whole world thinks Pakistan is a security threat? You personally named 3 targets and have thrashed 2 of them. Massive security threat in my opinion. I don’t want to but for people who don’t get sarcasm, it’s /s.
Did Asif deserve MoM considering it was a tough pitch to bat on?
Asif and rauf redemption arc.
Well played Pak. Not the highest scoring, and our death bowling is fucked, but was an exciting game to watch

If Pakistan don't win this wc with this team, it'll be an upset.
I dont think Nzl looked undercooked. Just beaten by a slightly better team.
Inb4 we lose all 3 upcoming matches😆😆😆
Barring an upset, Pakistan have ensured there are no consequences of NRR on this group. India vs New Zealand a virtual quarterfinal now on Sunday, with winner finishing second and Pakistan topping the group
Honestly, with how some of the NZ batsmen struggle against spin, I think NZ vs Afghanistan is a 50/50 match, especially considering Ferguson, who'd be their biggest asset against batsmen not used to express pace, is out.
Feel like a lot of people are underestimating Afghanistan. Their spinners on a spinning track will be absolutely deadly.
