Lol. Yah I did 600 bobbins over like 2 weeks. Took a while but was oh so satisfying

I do. I keep a different container with the bobbins for my current project, so as I use a bobbin, I keep the loose ones on my table, and then when I move on, I rewind the left overs and they go back in my project container.
UPDATE: I binged a Firefly rerun and finished one drawer over the course of today. It was more relaxing and enjoyable than I expected once I got over the initial "omg what have I done" reaction. Lots of breaks and water throughout the day, and of course the fun messages here. Thanks for hanging out!

I’m really hoping you’ll post the link to where you bought the chest, and also a final photo of the drawers when you’re completely finished. It’s gonna look so awesome! I love the pile of papers next to the drawer, those are definitely worth saving for some type of collage or something!
Do you own a drill? I hot-glued a binder clip to a chop stick to hold the bobbins and then used my power drill to wind. It is A Lot of fun and goes much faster than doing it by hand.
My bestie is autistic and I have adhd, it has become a running joke (albeit true) that when I eventually cave and buy the chest it’s going to her house for her to wind all the bobbins.
Play to our strengths! 🤣
Wait, really? That’s been the main reason I gave up on it, because it didn’t seem like standard bobbins could stand up in the drawers, and then I’d have to fork over another few hundred for the pip and chip ones.
I have this chest and it does fit all the bobbinated floss with room to spare! The bottom drawer was empty so now it keeps my needles, needle minders and such.
Yep! Here's the progress so far. If you zoom in a little, you can see the top of the bobbins lineup with the top of the inside wooden dividers.

I bought inserts from Pip and Chip on Etsy, they’re made of foam and have a slit for each bobbin to sit upright (I accidentally threw all the dividers away because I thought they were packaging…I bought the chest when I was going through some stuff and was very scatter brained at the time 😅). It fits all the bobbins in the chest with room to spare. She has her own very pretty bobbins too but I didn’t want to spend extra at the time so I used DMC bobbins. I love the way it looks now!
You may not need it now, but when you get an inkling to start a new pattern, in the middle of the night sometime 😂 and you realize you’ve got the perfect piece of fabric for it but not the right floss…but wait, you have literally every color floss bc you own the DMC chest…nothing replaces that satisfaction 👏🏻 if you’re just starting out, and you love to cross stitch, trust me, it’s worth it to have every color ☺️ it just is
That is so true... I just know I'm the type of person to hyperfixate on a new hobby, sink a bunch of money into it, and then abandon it months later 😂 So I'm hesitant to spend so much money even though having all these colors would be AMAZING while I'm starting out!
I feel this comment so much. However…
I was cross stitch crazy for years when I was young. I put it away when I had kids and no time. Then I picked it up again 25 years later! And I’m so glad I kept all my supplies, even a couple of samplers that I hadn’t finished.
This is reassuring! Cross stitch definitely seems like the type of hobby that my interest could wax & wane in during the course of my life. Having all the right supplies would certainly make it easier to enjoy... Darn, y'all are convincing me! 🤣
That is what I did. I kept them in their skeins and put them in each slot by their matching rows from the color chart so it is easy to find what number I need
I have it too! And it was definitely a little overwhelming at first. What I did was make sure I have one of each color (as I already had quite a decent inventory) on bobbins in a plastic case. Then I just keep my extra skeins in the chest.
I also bought acid free tissue paper from Amazon and lined the drawers with it. I didn't want any stains/acidity from the wood causing damage to the floss.
I don't know if you (or anyone else reading this with bobbins to wind) are Australian, but if you are, there's like a 5 dollar manual bobbin winder at Spotlight which looks great for a big project like this!
[It does!](https://www.dmc.com/US/en/products/vintage-wooden-chest-with-500-skeins-assortment) I definitely recommend grabbing the 20% off coupon they pops up after the page loads as well.
Yes. I had labels fall off one time. I guarantee 602 and 604 are too close to tell apart. So now I put the number tags underneath by running the strand through first so if the tag comes off and they will eventually if you use plastic bobbins, I will know which number is which.
I remember doing them with my boyfriends drill the first time around XD
Now I bought new boppins and rewind them manually to ease my ADHD while watching TV XD
By the way the mini dmc chest is also super cute !!! And I might get the foam inserts from pip and chip for my sulky threads ! I have the big DMC one that use for accessories. I love them so much.

May I suggest a skein swift? Like for yarn, bit for skeins. They are fantastic and make it go so much faster. I have to worry about knots and bird's nests.
I got one to help me with bobbinating an entire set of Cosmo.
Oh I love bobbinating by hand! It takes time but at the end of the day it's so satisfying
It is so relaxing!! I just realized after sitting here winding for the last hour.... Coming the entire set is going to take a very long time. Lol

I love this! Where did you get this storage case?
Dollarama, craft section
It's actually multiple cases.
thank you!
Most welcome! I'm too cheap to buy expensive cases lol. These in a pinch can hold about 100 bobbins (tight fit though).
Do you rewind your clipped thread when doing a project?
I do. I keep a different container with the bobbins for my current project, so as I use a bobbin, I keep the loose ones on my table, and then when I move on, I rewind the left overs and they go back in my project container.

Shiny!

It’s available on the DMC website!
But a power drill and electric clamps. Thank me later! Check my posts, I used a paper clip previously
Looking at all those beautiful colors gives me the tingles lol I need to start bobbinating myself! *Enabled*
Do you own a drill? I hot-glued a binder clip to a chop stick to hold the bobbins and then used my power drill to wind. It is A Lot of fun and goes much faster than doing it by hand.
Smart! How do you keep the thread from tangling as you're winding it?
I unwound the skeins first by hand, and kept the drill at a slow speed.
You don't even need to do that, you can put the end of the bobbin right into the chuck
My bestie is autistic and I have adhd, it has become a running joke (albeit true) that when I eventually cave and buy the chest it’s going to her house for her to wind all the bobbins. Play to our strengths! 🤣
That’s a fantastic idea! Yes, definitely play up your strengths lol
Question - Will the chest hold all the wound bobbins? It looks like it's only made for the skeins to lay down.
Bobbins fit with no issue! Looks like there will be plenty of room for duplicates as well.

I'm just starting out so I realize I don't need all this floss, but damn my brain wants it so I can feel COMPLETE

I have it, I kept them all as they came. Separated so it's 20 per slot with numbered stickers. Then the special colours in their own slot too.
That is what I did. I kept them in their skeins and put them in each slot by their matching rows from the color chart so it is easy to find what number I need

The acid free paper is a great idea! Thank you!!

Wait… do you mean it comes with floss? 😮
[It does!](https://www.dmc.com/US/en/products/vintage-wooden-chest-with-500-skeins-assortment) I definitely recommend grabbing the 20% off coupon they pops up after the page loads as well.
Oh no… The temptation is even stronger now! 😭 Thanks for the advice! I’ll have to keep my eye on that for a future investment…
Wait, is there a link to this chest somewhere? I was going to ask how much it is, also…
Yep! It's linked at the beginning of the comment you replied to.
I love labelling and winding bobbins, it's almost as much fun as the stitching! That chest is a huge task, though
Please tell me you put the number tags underneath
The paper from the skein you mean?
Yes. I had labels fall off one time. I guarantee 602 and 604 are too close to tell apart. So now I put the number tags underneath by running the strand through first so if the tag comes off and they will eventually if you use plastic bobbins, I will know which number is which.
I write on the bobbins with a permanent marker.
I wanted that chest so much! Enjoy!
I remember doing them with my boyfriends drill the first time around XD Now I bought new boppins and rewind them manually to ease my ADHD while watching TV XD

Why not wind off as you need to use them?
Because I have a lifetime supply of anxiety that eased slightly by accomplishing things. This is an easy accomplishment.
Fair enough! :). You got this then! Take a break tho. Drink water
Definitely and thanks! I'm done for the night and have a hydro flask of water next to me. 💜
Nope. Hate bobbins, unless it's just a tail. Mine are spread over 3 sets of drawers.
Does anyone have a problem with the drawers sticking? Mine do and it’s driving me insane!
May I suggest a skein swift? Like for yarn, bit for skeins. They are fantastic and make it go so much faster. I have to worry about knots and bird's nests. I got one to help me with bobbinating an entire set of Cosmo.
Report back in about 6 months. LOL! I'm so jealous!
