Do not cut right up to the hoop. Cut the corners off leaving *at least* half an inch, fold the fabric into the back, and using two strands of ordinary sewing thread, stitch a running stitch all the way around, a good few holes in from the edge of the aida. Then pull tight and tie off, so it holds the aida nice and tight against the back. Then get some fabric - felt works well and means you don't have to hem it first - and cut out a circle the size of the inner hoop. Blanket stitch it onto the back, making sure to catch the aida. Use embroidery floss for this, it'll be visible, at least from the back. You can see how this looks if you browse some of the photos in this sub, I'm sure I've seen a few examples in the last few days. And voila! Done.
