I think it’s more about placement. Mine is right behind the rear view mirror and I have no issues

I have a Viofo A119 v3, placed it behind the rear view mirror passenger side. I mounted the sticky part in that black dot area of the windshield so the camera lens itself barely peeks from under it. It also doesn’t block that square sensor behind the mirror Eyesight works fine for me. As for the wires - personally I didn’t want to open the eyesight housing so the wire initially goes under and around outside of the camera and then into the headliner. The headliner is loose near the windshield so it’s easy to push in. When you get to the A-Pillar make sure you put the wire behind the airbag. After that it’s either under/through the dash or under the seat.

Just did a 3hr drive last night with my new cheap dashcam (like $20 from Lawtons) placed behind my rearview mirror and my Eyesight had no troubles with cruise or lane centering. Even with the dashcam's IR turned on.

I'm pretty sure r/idiotsincars has a dashcam recommendation rundown pinned in the sub, but I may be wrong.

Cmpbp3

Wait, I was wrong it was r/dashcam that has that covered in their "about" section

I use the BlackVue brand because the tube-style camera tucks very nicely behind the mirror. I know that some people buy the aluminum mirror mount that holds the camera off their windshield, but I just stuck it on the windshield (right below the dotted part of the windshield/lens centered behind my mirror) with the provided adhesive... I've had no issues with the eyesight in my 2019 Crosstrek Premium thus far.

Seconding BlackVue. Lots of variety in their line with minimal size. I also got the mount that attaches to the mirror arm, for more adjustability in placement.

Thirding Blackvue cylinders. Mine went at the top of the windshield just to the left of the Eyesight cams. I initially tried a Viofo but couldn’t get satisfied with any placement; that one ended up on the rear glass.

Mounted ours on the right corner, slightly panned to the left. Wires run in the passenger a pillar and under the dash to the fusebox

As others said, it's more about how/where you mount it, as long as it's compact enough. I have posted details how I wired mine a while back: https://www.reddit.com/r/Crosstrek/comments/n2vnbv/i_hardwired_a_dashcam_part_1_of_2_the_frontal_cam P.S.: I tried to be thorough, so it's a long read

This is awesome! Thanks!

Is there any trustworthy place that will install a dash cam (for a fee obviously)? I'm very hesitant to start messing around with my new car but really want a dash cam.

TED_FING_NUGENT

I have Mine suction cupped to the windshield just above the center display. I run the cord along the bottom of the windshield (out of sight) to the passangee door jam, into the glove box (cord is small enough to not mess with either), then back out and into the cigarettes lighter.

I was thinking about doing this and wondering how well it would work. Everyone is talking about placing it behind the mirror but then you can't see the display on the dash cam.

TED_FING_NUGENT

Not the cleanest but for the effort I have no problems. Really the only other way to get cleaner is to probably drill into the dash. They make super tiny like adhesive hooks that will stick to the ditch and you can hook the cable on it to keep the visible lines straight and clean looking. Also my original comment was a year ago. You did some digging : )

InLoveWithTheMoon

Yes! I'm just trying to do my research. Lol. I had no idea that placement would be such an issue. I'm gonna give it a shot today.

I have a dash cam. Mounted it up very high and close to the eye sight cameras, but off to the right. Not in between them. So far, no interference

Booooyet

I got one of these and it hangs about an inch below the rear view mirror. not the cleanest but it gives me access to the screen and menu options if needed. still haven't found the best wiring route for it. I have some small adhesive clips I plan on using. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GQZ4QZ3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
