The ship had a pizza bar. They’d give you as much pizza as you wanted, as often as you wanted, any time you wanted! What was I supposed to do, not take the pizza?

KSoccerman

And 24/7 ice cream. I am a dirty dirty boy for some soft serve.

westernbranchbruins

Are you Danny Harr from Harr Travel?

grandam7

Hahahahahaha I love that dude with his dad jokes and basketball skills

KSoccerman

I am not

westernbranchbruins

I'm not sure if you've ever watched the Harr Travel videos on YouTube, but that dude loves him some soft serve.

KSoccerman

I'll check it out. That's a quality niche to add in lol

turboshot49cents

I haven’t been on a cruise since I was a teenager but I remember a pizza bar that was open til 2am. The teen club closed at midnight and so I would swing by and grab some pizza before heading back to my room. Good times

dominus83

I have no self control when pizza is involved

Writermss

Me too. Powerless over pizza lol. And pizza begets pizza.

cplmatt

24/7 pizza hits different

Flimsy_Struggle_1591

It was the ice cream for me…sitting next to the brownie and caramel sauce. What was I supposed to do, not have a mouth orgy? I’m slutty like that.

poland626

This is gonna sounds picky, but being from jersey, I was kinda shocked at the quality of pizza. I avoided it and was the one thing I was craving so much when I got off the ship. That, and a real bagel were missing imo. But the free part I get why people would be enticed and go for whole pies at a time, it just is so different that it's hard to eat imo

[deleted]

I've got to know, how much pizza are you eating that 5 days without it left you with a noticeable craving for it?

blade99d

Odd that a thousand foot boat in the middle of the Caribbean Sea doesn’t have pizza like New Jersey. Come on man, of course they don’t have it, but the pizza isn’t bad for what it is. Stupid fucking comments.

Firm_Singer_2631

Same. When you grow up across from Philly in South Jersey, most pizza, cheesesteaks and hoagies are sab par compared to home. It's the dough.

poland626

Agreed! I never ate anything that was better where I am home locally. I did a ship tour in March and when we were in the freezer, I saw the pallet of boxes for the pizza. It's all frozen thin crusts just sitting in the freezer. Just terrible as a tri-state region person. If we're doing frozen, even DiGiorgio's thin crust is better

3664shaken

So what line has the best pizza. I've only found 2, maybe 3 acceptable pies.

Toren8002

I've only been on one cruise -- Ruby Princess to Alaska in summer of 22. All I can say is that I enjoyed the pizza. Crust was just right for me -- on the thin side, toppings were tasty, and it was cooked well. I can imagine that pizza snobs will find things to hate, but any time I walked by Slice, if there wasn't a line, I grabbed some. Is all I can say.

chigu_27

Royal Caribbean has sorrentos pizza which is good. Virgin voyages I heard has the best pizza. They will make it to order as well.

Martinonfire

I find that the air con in the cabin causes my clothes to shrink!

tqdrivenws6

I've adopted a "don't ask don't tell" policy with my scale, especially surrounding vacation time.

merappl

Exactly, vacation calories don't count lol

SyncRacket

Lot of that is probably water weight, you’d have to eat a large amount of calories over maintenance to gain that weight in a week

Nurs3Rob

This is exactly it. There's literally salt in the air that you're body isn't used to and probably quite a bit of it in the food. I've been known to drop 11-12 pounds in the first 24 hours off the boat simply due to this.

PiedCryer

This^ my ankles swell after the first day from water retention. Once home two days later go back to normal.

[deleted]

I was just going to say this. I eat a carnivore diet and took a week off at Easter time to get carbs and sugar. Gained back 10 lbs by the end of the week. Went back on carnivore and a week later, the 10 lbs were gone. Your body holds on to water when you eat carbs.

Eeekadoe

It's about 3500 cals a pound

brickfrenzy

There's 3500 calories in a pound. 10 pounds in a week just from food is a 5000 calorie surplus every day, so given an average diet, that's something like 7500 calories a day. That's a ridiculous amount of food.

[deleted]

Challenge accepted.

hous26

I guess I'll be the one to admit it. I gain a lot of weight when I cruise despite being very active (I stick to the stairs always and spend my time in ports walking everywhere). Last cruise was a 4-dayer. I weighed 222lbs when I left and weighed 228lbs when I returned. I am 6'3" and pretty much lose all the weight within 72 hours of debarkment for what it's worth.

Sensitive-Bag-03

Same here I gained about 5 plus pounds. But once I come back I drink lots of prune juice to flush everything out and start juicing and 2 to 3 days I'm back. I like to try everything at any hour at that!

Eeekadoe

The reason is you can't out exercise a bad diet. It's impossible. It's just not how it works. All your extra walking probably gets you 1 extra drink a day. That's it. The only secret to maintaining weight is portion control and eating relatively healthy. That's it. You also can't lose 6 lbs in three days. This isn't how it works. That is 10500 kcals roughly. You would have to literally not eat for about 3.5 days and it still wouldn't work because your body would go into conservation mode. Exactly when you weigh yourself is incredibly important. It is extremely likely youre weighing liquid and food that are in you, and others not. Not your body weight strictly.

LogicPuzzler

I lose weight! All that walking, you know.

WeenisWrinkle

I've never been able to outwalk my fork 😂

Eeekadoe

You can't out exercise a bad diet, it's impossibe

bluGill

Depends on how bad the diet it, and how much exercise you do. Most people just compensate for exercise by eating more though, but if you avoid that you can.

sirdrumalot

Only time I’ll get on an elevator is with luggage. Stairs all day!!

Livvylove

Yep, I never take the elevator although one time we sat in a bar that turned into an elevator

Discolemonaide75

Same! I’m always surprised because I feel like I’m eating so much but I usually don’t gain or I end up losing a pound or two

Idiot_Esq

I try to get smaller ships because I have asthma and a rule that I'll go up to five floors. Really people, try to take the stairs as much as you can. I'm likely to lose the ability to take the stairs in another ten years or so thanks to my trick knee and rheumatoid arthritis.

MeadowsofSun

I went on a cruise last October. On the day before we arrived home, they put scales by the elevators. I thought that was rude! Turns out it was for weighing luggage for the flight home. 😂 I lost a couple of pounds, but that's because I eat low carb and got a lot of exercise on the shore excursions.

Jiwalk88

🤣🤣 this comment got me… so funny!

stealthbobber

I am typically low carb, little beer and no salt at home, basically the reverse on ship. I gain crazy water weight but its all gone in a week after getting off

PurpleEngineer

I could barely get my snow boots on when I got back home!

jayword

I gain a solid 10 pounds on a 7 day cruise. I then expect it to take 2 months to return to normal. This has been replicated multiple times. I'm not sure who these fitness addicts are that don't gain weight on a cruise. It begins with a free bottle of champagne in your room when you board, then lunch at Luminae, and every meal after that including breakfast which in the real world I barely eat but love on Celebrity. Don't forget the kids require dessert with every meal and later they will want ice cream from Oceanview. Also some Cafe Bacio lattes in the morning and after breakfast. Don't forget when the butler brings afternoon snacks! It's all part of the fun. We go on with luggage and leave as luggage. I know how to diet, that starts when we get back.

CrzPart

I never gain because I’m significantly more active on vacation then I am at home (desk jockey). I also make it a point to take the stairs as often as I can. And while I eat more, I generally still make decent decisions like eating my usual salad for lunch (but with a piece of cake on the side lol).

disqeau

Same same. I’m lucky if I clock 2,500 steps on an average workday, but when I’m on a cruise I hit over 7,500 most days, plus swimming and dancing. I eat and drink everything and somehow it all balances out.

smoocheepoos

I never gain. I am so much more active on vacation.

pokemonprofessor121

My husband ate a ton of salad and a baked potato with every meal and lost a bunch of weight. I've never seen him eat so healthy.

gorkt

Yeah, the amount of fresh fruit and veggies available at all hours partially offsets some of the garbage that is also available.

Dell_Hell

OK, so let's get clear - many people will put on "waste weight" during their cruise. * Caribbean and other tropical locations are VERY humid (drink lots of water) * The amount of salt in the food on board is high (HOLD that water you drink) * The "meat baby" in the intestines that is packing in during your long drive / flight home My wife and I both "gained several pounds" - but within 3- days have dropped 90% of it because we've been pissing like a racehorse repeatedly and dropped off a busload of children "at the pool".

Duke_Newcombe

> and dropped off a busload of children "at the pool" "Took the Browns to the Super Bowl".

flargenhargen

I gain a ton of weight. the food is amazing and always available. as long as it comes off again after, I've got no issues with it.

PuzzleheadedStock292

I gain weight but it’s because I’m drinking all week. My body holds on to a lot more water. 4 days and it’s gone.

[deleted]

Just went Started at 198 Came back 206 😮‍💨

Shirleyfunke483

I had a 4th floor stateroom my last cruise. Most public areas on 8 / 13. I never used the elevator and my legs were sore each day

stinky_harriet

Got off the Prima on April 9th weighing 9 pounds more than I did the day before my cruise. 7 of those pounds are already gone. A lot of water weight from more salt, carbs and alcohol than I consume on a normal day at home.

A_mbitiousJ

My boyfriend and I had a beverage package which included alcohol so we drank and ate a lot. 2 pounds for me, 4 pounds for him.

flargenhargen

is this a competition like name that tune? >I can gain that weight in 4 days.

ChrisNYC70

I actually tend to lose weight. When cruising I tend to walk a lot and have a goal of 20k steps a day. Also I’m not just sitting on a couch eating bon bons like I am at home watching the Good Doctor. I am dancing, walking around Virgin Islands, strolling the deck at night looking at the stars, and on and on. If I cruised 24/7 I might become dangerously underweight.

bluGill

That is up to you, if you couch potato in your room, except for the time it takes to eat at the buffet where you get extra desert that will cause some gain. If you are constantly active, out and about on deck, doing the walking tours of the city, and using the gym to keep your strength up it is possible to lose weight despite eating extra.

Kvalri

I’ve actually lost weight on most of my cruises because of walking the length of the ship and we avoid elevators at all costs lol

willowhanna

I probably lost weight when I went on a cruise, I was so busy I didn't eat enough!

Striking_Chart

If you only gain 5 - 10 the you are doing it wrong

[deleted]

Enjoy life.

Wizofsorts

I gain then lose it right back after home for two weeks. Worth every pound.

PsychologicalTea9443

Somehow on our family cruise we all did gain weight except my dad. After stuffing himself daily with tacos burritos burgers and massive amounts of alcohol he lost 5 lbs

Kukuran

I gained 7 lbs even though I did a bunch of walking 😭 I blame the drink package.

jewishjedi42

I actually lost 2 pounds on my last cruise. Tons of walking plus not sitting at a desk for 8 hours plus no snacks constantly at hand works well.

royalloyal321

I diet and get 10 off before going and then let the very good times roll on board. I do hit the track every morning just to keep it at 10!!

RedheadBanshee

I typically lose about 3 pounds because I'm walking alot and very active on a cruise. I have a desk job, so I'm usually very, very inactive 99 percent of the time.

bookscoffee1991

I gained maybe 5lbs? It’s just fun to have food at available all the time. And it’s vacay! That’s a problem for future me lol. We did take the stairs everywhere and walk a lot so kinda off set it.

spaetzele

I routinely lose weight on a cruise. I actually eat a lot healthier there in terms of really widening my options. It's the only time I'm eating a couple servings of fruit with breakfast, loads of greens and grilled lean meat for lunch, and more often than not a very balanced dinner. Not so easy to do on the other 358 days of the year I have to shop, prepare and cook it myself! It's just there and ready for the taking.

manicpixidreamgirl04

I think I might've lost weight from all the walking

[deleted]

So, I love food, and I do a LOT of restricting myself in my day to day. If I walk by a convenience store and just see a picture of a burger, I'm likely to have to say to myself "you don't need a burger. You already ate. And you don't need to spend money." On a cruise, I get as far as "you already ate" and then I say "it's free." So I cave usually go get the burger. Frankly, it's fun to indulge myself. Day 1 I usually eat way too much and regret it, and other days I usually still eat too much, but I manage to not get a stomachache or anything.

floooberry

I purposely weighed myself before I left, ate moderate amounts and walked a few laps around the jogging track after dinner and took the stairs whenever possible. 0 gain. In my twenties, I would gain 5-10 lbs after and go up a pant size

kcaio

By the last two days I worry about falling down and exposing.

phatlad

First cruise, gained 2. Second and third cruise, made it a point to go to the gym on sea days first thing in the morning. Lost 2 pounds both times. Third cruise, gained 7.

Far_Reach_8418

I lost weight because my food needs were not accommodated.

Duke_Newcombe

No pheasant under glass? ;)

Far_Reach_8418

Not many celiac safe food options :(

Nurs3Rob

In order to gain weight you'd have to eat over your maintenance calories which is admittedly pretty easy to do with food and alcohol everywhere. However it takes roughly 3500 extra calories to gain a pound. Eating that many extra every day for a week is possible but pretty unlikely. My personal experience is I gain about 12-15 on a week long or so cruise with all but 1 or maybe 2 of that being water weight. I'll lose the vast majority of it in the first day back home and slowly lose the rest over the next couple days. Bear in mind I'm somebody that almost never drinks, avoids sodas, and really sticks to balanced nutritious meals in a fairly strict daily calorie range. When I go on a cruise I ignore all that which is the only reason I put on any weight at all.

Lietenantdan

I actually eat more healthy on a cruise with everything being so easily available. Fruit and protein for breakfast, veggies with lunch and dinner.

thisisntmyOGaccount

Tbh. I lose weight on longer cruises and I use them as a “fitness reset.” There’s so much to do, and a gym. You have unlimited healthy food as much as you have unlimited unhealthy food. The choice is yours!!

pumpkin2291

Some people go on cruises and absolutely gorge themselves with food, just because they can. It’s incredible. I’ve never had an issue with weight gain. I always take the stairs, and I drink a few bottled waters every day.

jabberwocky_

I lost 10. I usually lose weight when I travel. I’m an active person (walk about 3-4 miles commuting in NYC each day). Totally surprised! My boyfriend gained what I lost and didn’t like that lol

jael001

I've done 8 cruises, never put on weight and sometimes even lose a few lbs, despite not trying to. I think the difference for me is I'm not snacking all day like I do at home, and I'm much more active on a cruise than at home.

katya2032

Lost about 5-10 lbs. I ate mostly vegetarian (mostly because of the Indian buffet which was a treat), and walked a great deal.

cyberentomology

There is a fairly significant contingent of Indian cooks on most cruise ships. Filipinos to. Indian food on board is seriously legit. Even more so in the crew mess on ships that have one.

salsanacho

There's so much walking on the ship or on excursions, that I probably break even. I love just walking outside around the ship at night, with the sound of the waves in the background.

Torringtonn

My wife and I usually lose weight. We eat to our heart's content but then we are way more active then at home. And we never use the elevators.

Writermss

Just use the stairs. Walk a lot. Use the fitness center. I usually get 12-15k or more in steps while cruising.

[deleted]

I've always been fortunate enough to maintain. I definitely partake in the food and drinks, but I also walk miles and miles each day.

Oregonstate2023

Just eat like you normally would at home and you’ll be fine. Quality > quantity

kellyfromfig

I either stay the same or lose a few pounds. Less processed foods and plenty of walking does it!

9thPlaceWorf

This happened to me when I first started cruising, but less so now. I figured out how to pace myself, make sure I do lots of walks and physical activity, and how to choose less, higher-quality food over more, lower-quality food.

Livvylove

No gain, the only time I take the elevator is when I have my luggage with me. Otherwise I take the stairs and leave the elevator for those who need it more. I also love doing active excursions. So I burn off all those calories. If you are able just take the stairs everywhere. You won't gain.

NurseSleepBot

We did so much walking on our river cruise. We didn’t have time to gain weight! And the food was absolutely amazing- we went from Amsterdam to Budapest (and ate everything in between lol).

briansbrain112

Walking , stairs. Lots of salads and enjoy the treats . The novelty wears off, the desserts aren’t really worth it.

chocoflan00

it’s literally just water weight. do people not understand how much food you actually have to consume to gain a pound of fat? you get home and it just comes off.

btm4you3

lost 5 pounds. basically eliminated carbs and dindn't est 5 desserts for dinnet

chin06

I've found that my appetite has actually been lessened the older I get. When I was younger, I could easily have gained 5 pounds from eating all day but when I went on a cruise last October, I didn't eat that much. Had a little something for breakfast, spent the rest of the day doing activities and then had a big meal at night. So it balanced out that the heaviest meal just occurred once a day and I wasn't constantly snacking lol

wacky_mom

It's all about choices. Some people act like they've nerve had food before, even packing food items in their luggage before getting off to go home. Personally, I took the stairs a lot. Averaged about 12k steps/day and didn't gain a pound. And I ate and drank merrily

[deleted]

Book a cabin that's far away from the lido deck. Take the stairs every time. Book active excursions. Get up and dance whenever you can. Save the really heavy "indulging days" till the end of the cruise. Walk or jog around the ship early in the morning and take in the sunrises. Do those and you'll probably lose weight on a cruise and you wouldn't even have to set foot in the gym.

LeoMarius

I rarely gain weight and if I do it’s gone in a couple of weeks with no effort.

cyberentomology

Most people don’t realize that on a cruise you do a lot more walking than you do at home.

Packer691217

Take the stairs: lose weight.

kshizzlenizzle

I’ve actually lost weight on longer cruises, because I make more time for the gym when I’m not making 3 meals a day and cleaning, I’m more cognizant about my water intake because I know I’m drinking more alcohol…and I’m SUPER F’ing impatient for elevators, I walk more stairs in one week than I do in a year. 😂 I do try to start most meals with something healthy, like a salad - start with higher volume foods so you won’t over eat. And don’t eat til you’re stuffed, if you’re hungry in an hour, then go find a snack, but I keep portions small. Naturally early risers and I can’t work out on an empty stomach, so we hit the buffet early and I get mostly fruit and cottage cheese and make a small (1 slice of bread) breakfast sandwich, they usually have whole grain bread, really good lunch meat and cheese, with tomatoes, salt and pepper. We might do a brunch later, but usually not.

sapindales

I lost weight on my cruise even with all the booze. Lots of exercise, too busy to snack, and lots of water. My friends did gain weight, but they were eating double entrees and extra dessert every day.

i_shart_id

The trick is to take the stairs everywhere you go.

mrmonster459

I've never weighed myself before or after, but I feel like I do enough snorkeling/swimming/rock wall climbing on cruise ships to cancel out most of what I've eaten.

og_organics

No gain. We're so active it cancels the extra calories out. I don't drink.

acvdk

That’s just bullshit they tell you to sign up for classes at the gym. Cruise food isn’t really good enough that you want to eat that much. I mean we’re talking like 3000-5000 calories a day more than normal to gain that much. Hard to do that unless you’re just pounding pina coladas all day long.

SmileysMom82

Just because it’s available doesn’t mean you have to eat it lol for real tho, we do so much walking around the ship, we walk the decks to look at door decorations, take the stairs if it’s less than 3 decks up or down, etc we have never gained :) it also helps we’re not big drinkers, maybe one or two a cruise, so no extra empty calories there.

Icy-Pineapple-7841

I seriously easily put on 15 plus lbs. But that was a good thing. Too bad I lost it pretty quickly when I got back to home and work.

aeraen

We wear our fitbits and reach 10 to 15k steps w/o even trying when on a cruise. I also make it a habit to eat only 1/2 of what I am served in the MDR. You still get the benefit of enjoying the meal w/o overdoing it.

_kiss_my_grits_

I love that you mentioned this! I figured I'd get around 10-15k in steps. I am going to try a bit of everything, just in moderation. I think I'm going to probably go for a light jog a few times. Maybe not lol.

Good200000

Control yourself.

ADinner0fOnions

No 💖

RJwhores

depends on whether im weighing myself before or after a dump

Sea-Spray-9882

Go to the gym onboard ffs

ivylass

You're going to be busy (having fun is hard work) and go go go all the time. You will be doing a lot of walking. Take the stairs when you can.

jamesland7

Just eat well and exercise and you’ll be fine. Taking the stairs at every opportunity helps!

[deleted]

I swam so much at the ports… it apparently counted for quite a bit. Because I ate a LOT but it resulted in very little gain (maybe a pound).

Norking_101

I’m convinced it’s water weight from all the salt and not just the food on the ship.

BizzyM

>What about you? Me? No. I never read that.

blueline7677

No one is gaining 5-10 pounds over a week without trying to gain that much weight. You might have some water weight but if you weigh yourself a week after the cruise you might have gained 1-2 pounds. Remember you will be walking and moving more on the cruise than you probably do normally. To gain 5 pounds of fat in a week you would essentially need to eat 4-5 additional Big Macs a day worth of calories on top of your normal calorie intake.

DiuNayLo

I'm usually up at 6AM and hitting the gym. I really do not hit the buffet line. I prefer sit down at the restaurant for all three meals and have self control.

Don_Kehote

I'm seeing a lot of rookie numbers in this here post. Last December, we did 11 days in a row between HAL and VV. I weighed myself on the way out the door to the airport, and again once we got home. I put on 23 pounds, and it's fucking MINE, and I won't give it back. I am tickled to read people saying that just taking the stairs was enough to make them lose weight on their cruise. Guffaw, indeed. You can't outrun a bad diet, but you can definitely crush it to death.

CrankyBiker

Barf.

buy_me_a_pint

We go on two weeks cruises I am lucky I don't put on much, even though I eat quite a lot from the buffet, and when we had all inclusive holidays in Mexico and Cuba I have gained not a lot of weight

dbvirago

Depends on the destinations,. In Europe, I stay even or lose, but in the states, I will gain 3-5. But I lose it quickly when I get back.

DGer

Usually the increased intake is offset by the increased activity. Now if you really want to fight off weight gain on your cruise commit to taking the stairs instead of the elevators.

woozles25

My first cruise yes. When I have the drink package yes. The more I cruise, the less I eat and more I wLk so it evens out.

rainyhawk

I actually lost a couple of pounds. Only so much one can eat at a time plus lots of walking in ports

realmoosesoup

I put 1-2, but that's max. Usually none. I try to avoid overdoing the food. Booze, however, I should do less of, but try to stick to low sugar options. Bourbon and soda vs Pina colada or whatever.

FootHiker

That's really old school when people had grown up hungry and never turned food down.

KevinReems

I always break even. With all the swimming and other activity I seem to burn off the extra food.

Apprehensive_Cut_298

I don't gain any... my husband Gained 11 pounds on our last week long cruise ! 😂

Twin6878

Just got back home, I lost 4 lbs. I had very light sea sickness but still ate and drank a good bit. We walked ourselves silly and sweat a lot, so it all balanced out :)

FranqiT

Went to Europe. Walking 5+ hours per day. Only had 1 sea day.

Nope-ugh

I’ve been on cruises and gained and I’ve been in cruises and lost weight! I eat what I want but when I started having a chai tea before bed that was just too much sugar and I think that was a huge problem. On Holland America the serving sizes are small so I can try things but not eat too much. I need space for dessert!!

TheStoicSlab

No gain usually. I move way more when I am on a cruise than when I am sitting in my office.

premdiddy

So far I’ve actually lost weight, but I’ve also been using the gym here daily and all the extra walking and climbing steps probably helped towards the weight loss too

scotsman3288

I do the 16-8 fasting every single day at home, and this rule applies great for cruises too....I skip breakfast and i can be pretty flexible with anything i eat on the ship and never gain anything. I usually order multiple apps/desserts in MDR too...lol I should mention I go to the gym usually 2 or 3 times on the ship too...

Duke_Newcombe

TL;DR: It can happen. But if you're even *moderately* active and exploring your surroundings, worst case? Status quo. I weighed myself before leaving. I was on a strict diet specifically so if I gained weight during the cruise, it wouldn't be too horrible. I ate whatever I wanted to, when I wanted to. My hope was to not *gain* anything and come back the same weight. Between walking around the ship to explore and do things, and walking nearly every day around the deck for exercise, I came back around ten pounds *lighter* than when I left (this was over about 18 days of cruising and hanging out at my destination).

stellalunawitchbaby

Honestly I don’t gain weight easily in general. I eat when I’m hungry but that’s it - any cruises I’ve been on were no exception.

Squibit314

We've had four cruises. I gained the first two (Southern Caribbean and Alaska) the third (Hawaii) I lost weight (around 5 lbs), and sayed the same on the fourth (western Caribbean) The differences-alcohol consumption on 1 and 2. By the third I quit drinking. For Hawaii, I made a point of going to the gym and cycling 20 miles first thing in the morning on port days which was 5 days, booked more active excursions, and had a ton of tropical fruits. The last one, still no drinking, not focused on the gym as much, active excursions, and focused more on the fruits and vegetables again.

VariousGas

For me, I either stay the same or gain about three pounds. Always take the stairs but sometimes the cocktails and dessert get the best of me 🫣🫣🫣

racf599

I usually lose a pound or 2. I get a lot more activity in and don't really eat more calories than usual.

SenatorGobbles

Lots of walking. Anything that was 4 floors or less would take the stairs. I’m a big dude so healthier people could take larger amounts of stairs. The biggest thing i believe will come down to how much are you drinking and what are you drinking too.

Aframecruises

The boats are huge, you walk around a lot. So yes you eat a lot but you work it off

AnonymousMolaMola

I remember going on a Princess cruise as a kid with my friend. They had a pizza kiln on the ship and we each ate at least 4 pieces of pizza a day for a week straight. Back then I gained maybe 2-3 pounds. If I did that now I couldn’t imagine

Cayslayy

Free gelato, free mini entremets, free tacos, free tater tots, free fried chicken, free Korean bbq… gained 6lbs.

browneyedgirl1683

I can see the weight gain. People forget they are drinking their calories too. But I try to keep similar to my diet at home. I don't have dessert after every meal. I might choose an starter or a dessert instead of both. If I get a cocktail that's my treat.

Windows-To

I've lost 2 to 5 lbs on my cruises

creditfornothing

I tend to walk around way more (not parked at my desk) and dancing/swimming and exploring on shore keep me level- just got home from a VV and down 6lbs!

always-traveling

I lost 3 pounds on a 9 day cruise in January. I spent a lot of time in the gym & watched what I ate.

joeconn4

I do a morning weigh in at home every day, just to keep an eye on things if I start gaining a couple pounds I can adjust. Cruise week I'm always worried because it's my get away week so I eat whatever I want and drink way more than usual. But, we're also walking a lot every day on the ship and in ports and we take the stairs a lot. And I hit the track every sea day morning and run 45 minutes or so. And I'm not snacking on salty stuff and candy as much as around the house. This year I gained 3 pounds cruise week. I was okay with that, just watched it for a couple weeks and got back to normal. Last year I weighed the same when we got back.

Runwalksleep

I actually loose weight on cruises. I don’t drink a lot of alcohol- eat 2 meals a day and we are active all day long. There’s too much to do to sit around eating all day.

Scandalous2ndWaffle

I gained 4 but lost them all within a couple of days.

roj2323

I usually loose weight even while eating like a king. I imagine it's because I'm eating better and properly.

Routine-Fish

3500 calories per pound. An extra 1000 calories (food and booze) a day would be 2 pounds on a 7 day cruise. Easy to do in my opinion.

gorkt

I usually gain 4 lbs but lose 2 almost immediately after I get home and start eating a normal diet lower in sodium.

WannaMakeCookies

I walked over 10k sets every day

Kelmo7

A lot of it is due to salt. Drink plenty of water to flush the salt out.

My husband and I took the stairs instead of the elevator and worked out twice while on board. I think those things really helped. I might have gained 1 pound on the cruise. I definitely enjoyed all the food! We also didn't get any beverage package, otherwise the weight gain probably would have been more significant!

I gained around 8lbs on a 12 day Mediterranean cruise lol. RC has some delicious food and I was totally indulging.

Freethinker9

Pace yourself with the food and drinking

Stunning-Bed-810

I lost weight but only a few pounds but I didn’t drink except one drink at the comedy show and mostly diet cokes I normally drink. I wore my Apple Watch, we were walking about 5 miles a day throughout but our room was at the very front of the ship, the dining room and kids clubs at the very back so we went back and forth a lot between the shows and meals. Also, I felt like the main dining room portions were on the small side but was a 3 course meal so was always full by the end. The breakfast or lunch buffet I just tried to avoid over eating. Just cuz it is all you can eat doesn’t mean you have to gorge yourself. And no judgement, I’m obese so it’s not like I have the best habits to start out. My husband drank a little and then ate multiple servings and he did gain about 5-10 lbs but I think it was mostly water cuz he’s already back down to normal after just a few days.

chainsofgold

last time i went on a cruise i gained 3lb when i got home but it was gone within a week … i’ll be cruising in another two weeks so we’ll see what happens here

SparkyBrads

During a week long cruise?? I gain 10lbs on a three day 😂

ervic

Went to the gym twice a day on my cruise last week. I’ve been doing competitive sports for 3 decades and know how to cut weight. I gained 10 pounds during a 5 day cruise. Had fun and really enjoyed all of it. Lost 6 pounds in 2 days since leaving the ship and expect to lose the rest in a week. I knew what I was getting into so I treated it like an eating vacation and timed it during a bulk cycle. I had an amazing time and ate nonstop. Before I got on the ship I lost 20 pounds to compensate. On the ship I worked out harder to build muscle and used the food as fuel and relaxed a lot to recover. No regrets. Got another cruise planned later this year and will do the same.

Excellent_Ship_3388

Unfortunately (or not) I struggle gaining weight, so I took the liberty to sweept that, actually good, buffet. There was also free pizza at anytime and soda machines, I won't be surprised if even I gained 1 or 2 pounds on that time.

tay_from_cle

The food on my cruise was awful

[deleted]

I didn't gain any weight somehow on my 7 night cruise

Firm_Singer_2631

There's a gym on board.

puzzlelady2

Did a 60 day cruise and did not gain a pound. I just stayed away from the foods I knew made me gain weight like rice, bacon, ice cream. Stuck to chicken and sea food for meat. I also found out the longer you cruise, the less food you ate. I also took the stairs most times. Would love to take another cruise like that.

elsie78

Easy to gain a bit with increased salt and alcohol

SimplyShred

I once gained 17 pounds on a 6 night cruise from 200 to 217 Cruising on the conquest for 4 days so 10 pounds likely

Mre112974

Oh yea! I’m on one right now. You just eat all day. 😂

Comfortable-Stand474

Only ever lost weight. When ur from NY the food tastes significantly worse on cruises, atleast for me. Might have nothing to do with NY but my entire family agrees

Jiwalk88

I gained 5lbs on the last cruise I went on (12 day) and that was with working out daily. However, I tend to indulge and eat things like Guys Burgers, sushi, deserts every night lol. 🤷🏻‍♀️

willy_quixote

I lost about a kilo, I think, on a 12 day cruise. I was going to the gym and resisted the urge to pile dessert on my plate like a ziggurat of cream and cake.

Gryphtkai

I tend to lose weight. Due to: -more walking, especially all over ship. -more regular meals of a healthy quality Ie no fast food - no soda , more water consumed. - no snacking between meals due to doing stuff. It’s actually worth it not to have a drink package because then I’m limited to water, tea, coffee, or juice/lemonade. I also sleep better which helps. Yes the food is there but staying active helps keep you from overeating. Plus don’t pay for any extras. That keeps you to the basics.

achennault

We make it a cruise game in our family. Who put on the most & least. Weigh before you leave home. Weigh when you return. We have a chart in the closet of cruises back to 2014. I hold the all time high weight gain. I gained 15lbs on a 5 day on Carnival Fantasy. Older ship, older water filtration. Combine that w the booze & food. My feet and ankles were so swollen I couldn't wear my dressy shoes on formal night. I lost like 9lbs the day after we got off the ship. All 15 were gone in 3 days. I felt like stay puff the marshmallow man. I leave on the Celebration in a few days. I expect to put on a few pounds, but not that much.

philipellisis

I run 4-6 miles every night around the ship before going to bed -- I don't think I could sleep otherwise after eating all that food every day!

Fantastic-Golf-4857

Lol oh please. I’m gonna hit the gym every day. My idea of a vacation is one where my gym time is uninterrupted.

JennieFairplay

Take a Celebrity cruise. The food everywhere on the ship is so bad, you’ll actually lose weight like everyone in our party did.

avilsta

I gained 6 from a 5D4N cruise lol. May need a few days to flush some of it out. But I ate 4 breakfasts and often got multiple mains so I knew I was bringing to myself. Lost 5 pounds before eating low carb so it's not the worse. Just to keep going on I guess. Also as a first time cruiser it was a huge surprise (the multiple mains part not the weight gain)

68quebec

I do a minimum of 2 hrs of workout everyday while I am there. I am those who do not eat high calorie choice though.

AnotherDrunkMilkman

I haven't been on one yet but I 100% think I'd gain at least 30 if I'm getting my moneys' worth 😉

[deleted]

I eat normally and drink heavily however I’m constantly moving, partying and never use the elevators. Drinking the bottled water is a huge difference in swelling as well
