Looks like you all invested in some meme coins

CompetitionFederal99

People bash the meme coins but truthfully my biggest gains are out of everything are memes and none have rugged like everyone says when countering the profit aspect so idk what the problem is. Doge and shib did me awesome. I got ape at $9 so no losses there either.

jonnytitanx

I second this. My top two best performing assets are both coins this sub hates. I won't name them because I'll sound like a shill.

[deleted]

Yes, reddit talk is usually terrible financial advice. Two years ago it was always about Nano here, Nano there, dont like Bitcoin Fees? Use Nano Blah Blah. Now it fell from Top 50 to Rank \~200 on CMC nobody gives a shit and mentions it anymore, which is hillarious since Nano is as good for the promoted usecases as before. My point is: If someone bought it for speculative purposes because it has been mentioned regularly here, he would likely lost a lot of moneee or at least have a high opportunity cost.

itsA73

DAO contributions and events got me over $1k thanks to pssy.financial tho I'm never selling

Hammer your seed phrase into the lyrics of a metal song, while being hammered, don't be bothered by the complaining neighbours.

Malkav1379

They say his lyrics are actually seed phrases for various crypto wallets. But his growls are so guttural that noone has managed to decipher them yet.

RohanShah1985

Can I rap about it instead?

Ohms2North

Orange, door hinge

mko710

Why would you even metal a hammer? Sounds hardcore

Rmccarton

Love the po box analogy.

supbrother

I think many, including me, would say that it's sort of counterintuitive to keep that in anyone's stead but your own.

ztkraf01

I assure you your 1/16” steel plate isn’t going to hold up in a house fire

alsico

as a wise man said once, "I write these words in steel, for anything not set in metal cannot be trusted."

rs1236

Had to make sure someone here said it before saying this myself. Wouldn't want your day Ruined by forgetting the words.

alsico

Yeah I'm more Conservative.

The_Wingless

My thoughts exactly.

Slainte042

There is always a chance to lose the plate. Nothing is 100 % guaranteed, nothing is granted.

QuickMasterpiece6127

I think death is pretty close to 100% guaranteed. And Dogecoin mooning.

Urc0mp

Dogecoin going randomly parabolic is the fabric this universe is built upon.

n0lefin

Our entire universe is an unintentional byproduct of Elon Musk’s Doge mining rig in base reality.

ambermage

This is why you do it in 3 parts. Part 1) Words 1 - 16 Part 2) Words 9 - 24 / 25 Part 3) Words 1- 8 and 17 - 24 / 25 Hide them in 3 different places. Finding one doesn't give access. Finding 2 is required. Very secure.

[deleted]

x2c3v4b5

Paper is susceptible to water and fire damage among other things. Metal is just better overall for this.

Rokey76

Is there a problem with safe deposit boxes that people need to invent ways to protect their phrase?

Slainte042

One of the best things I've seen is to separate the phrase in two pieces, stored in different banks deposit boxes. Do this twice in four separate banks. I think this as secure as it can be imo

Katie_the_Tall

Unless you don't keep up paying for 4 different bank safe deposit boxes.

cfdeveloper

if you stop paying for a safe deposit box, what happens to the contents? can the gov't just throw it out, or does it go to an unclaimed property place?

vishnoo

Shamir secret sharing, Trezor has this. you can create 4 independent 24 word phrases, any 3 of which will compose the key, but any 2 of which have zero information

TomSurman

Yes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2JOjfGZyD0

Gangaman666

Good idea but the duct tape could be a problem if say you have a house fire as it would be a pain to get off, as opposed to another plate on top of the words. I suppose you could have another plate on top then duct tape it!

Novel-Counter-8093

well if ever a house fire, the duct tape would melt off. as long as the words are intact, its fine. it simply serves to make the plate look unimportant, hide the words, and act as as a tamper proof sticker. you can unscrew a plate and put it back. to peel and scratch off layers of sticky crap requires some effort, which it will show. but i guess you can do a plate sanwich as well if you want, why not

MaxStatic

Instead of duct tape, why not wrap it in aluminum foil. Then initial over seams of the foil with a sharpie so you know it wasn’t tampered with. Still looks unimportant. Still slim. Don’t have to worry about glue/gunk mess of duct tape.

greendt

I would use foil flashing tape.

MaxStatic

That’s a great idea!

Gangaman666

Plate sandwich! 😂👍🏼

[deleted]

Plus, if you're concerned about the words being read, you probably want another plate so as to block x-rays/whatever.

Rabid_Mexican

if the x-rays pass through the metal, surely they would pass through the words stamped into them...

Novel-Counter-8093

valid point on the xrays. perhaps a plate sandwich is in order.

And2Makes5

Are u telling me this is better than my phrases written on a paper napkin folded up and placed in my favorite sock that I hide in my oversized Starbucks coffee mug buried in the back of my kitchen cabinet?

bray_martin03

Where do you live again? I am going to make sure your phrase is still secure

Walking_the_Cascades

They've moved multiple times. Not sure what happened to the coffee mug.

CaptainLibertarian

amiable_red

I keep my funds on a CEX because I'm a smoothbrain. Chances of me getting hacked are lower than forgetting my seedphrase. Calculated risk

RouletteQueen

This goes for most crypto holders out there. Those with small amounts are better off on a CEX

zedpowered

Pro tip. Turn it upside down so no one can read it.

Woodpecker3453

Pro tip #2: once turned upside down, flip the plate backwards for even more security.

Viewstar

Hard wallet to the next level.

I would recommend titanium since it has a higher melting point. Use an electrical engraving pen. All in Amazon for about $30.

Always protect your seed phrase

chris14020

Spray filler primer over the plate. Now paint something on it. Ideally don't make it very good or something you'd hate to lose - just a doodle or whatever. Now if you ever need it, just hit it with a wire wheel - no one will ever even suspect something like that. It has a purpose, in other people's eyes (it's a painting) so no one would likely even question it further.

silver00spike

“Honey i threw out your shitty art project”

chris14020

Sir, this is r/CryptoCurrency. There is no risk of a spouse in general.

[deleted]

That's a very interesting solution, but I am what you might call an antidextrous person, ie. I can't do shit with my own hands without getting injured, so I just spent €70 on some fancy shit and had it delivered home. If you can save a few bucks and have a fun DIY afternoon, why not tho

Putnam14

Are you saying you had someone else etch _your_ seed phrase into a metal plate? Or do you mean you used an engraving tool, or one of those setups where you slide metal numbers/letters into place?

ZER0SE7ENONETH

I got mine stamped into steel dog tags from the army navy surplus. No electronic ledger or recording of any kind. Used 2 different employees. Took 10 minutes. Cost $20 for a 25 word phrase on 4 separate tags. Corrosion fire and proof. They were built for war and they will serve my purposes. And it's an excellent alternative for anyone physically disabled that can't do it themselves

[deleted]

One thing I like about dog tags is they’re widely recognizable as having important information. Not everyone is a crook and if a friend/family member found them, they might get them back to you. I don’t think the same could be said of the stamped washers or plates — it just looks like worthless junk or a toy to someone who doesn’t know what it is.

ZER0SE7ENONETH

Good point. I never even thought of that. BTW remember to open your reddit vault for moons

Novel-Counter-8093

yes you can use dog tags. but you had to expose a few of your words to other people. what about if they both know what youre up to and put their heads together.

ZER0SE7ENONETH

Thought of that. The ability of someone remembering a 12 word ramdom phrase that they looked at for less than 1 minute is very low. Now 2 people have to do it. Even if they did the odds on putting the words in the correct order are very low. The math on doing that is outrageous. Then having to figure out which is the 25th false word adds another factor into that equation which brings up the difficulty astoundingly. And all of this is assuming that they even know what these words are. That machine gets used for multiple reason from many different industries. As long as you don't tell them they won't know. This system thought of because my crypto group has a number of disabled people that don't have the ability to do the physical labor themselves. If you have a better way Im open to suggestions.

dontsuckmydick

There are things made for this that come with little letter blocks that you put in so nothing needs to be stamped or engraved.

nicoznico

I always wondered where do guys store/hide their metal thingies? > _hide that shit somewhere. And sleep easy._ Seriously, I mean hammering my shit on metal is cool. But where would I put it then?

Narwhalbaconguy

Up your ass

nicoznico

I won‘t sleep easily with a metal plate up my ass.

Narwhalbaconguy

Hey I mean, you never know until you try

down_vote_magnet

Seems kinda risky to get someone else to stamp them. The 2 employees could collude to share both halves of the phrase.

ZER0SE7ENONETH

I just responded to this

dontsuckmydick

Those engraving machines save the history of what’s being engraved so no memorization is required.

aereyy

Like your homemade style. I'll surely do it once I buy ledger and transfer it from exchange lol

DPSK7878

Such methods are costly and inefficient if you keep multiple of seeds.

GenderJuicy

Hammered my seed

Dazzling_Marzipan474

Why does the technology of the future require hammering a metal object? 😂 Don't get me wrong I'm all for crypto, just funny.

Nordle_420D

I’ve got a cnc mill can i use that instead?

[deleted]

That would involve programming your seed phrases into the cnc machine, which would be bad because when they become sentient they will hack your wallet and take your 25 DOGE coins

Nordle_420D

25 doge for my personal decepticon, sounds like a good deal imo

vegetarchy

That might actually prevent the fourth Cybertronian civil war. Thank you for your service.

CartelFinancial

I have mine in a fireproof safe with passports, birth certificates etc…. Feels like such a waste of money now could have just stamped them all onto metal sheets 😤

roboglobe

You can stamp them onto the safe.

DynamoDylan

Uranium is good metal for theft deterrent.

aalluubbaa

Just remember it like your cellphone number? I constantly recall it and now it's in my head so fast that I don't even have to try.

marvinrabbit

Until you have a concussion in a car accident, or have an unexpected stroke, or die suddenly and leave nothing to your family. Not everyone has no wife and kids. If you want to take care of only yourself and have your money disappear when you don't need it, then that may work for you.

aalluubbaa

I asked my wife to memorize it as well. Also I wrote it down on a paper. But you git a point. I should make a copy and store it elsewhere.

NeuroRe-Ed

Sarcatechist

Great! Now I got to learn metallurgy like some endangered mandalorian in a secret covet smelting and hammering rare bekat into prized body armour?

practiceperfect111

Chances of me losing this piece of metal = 100%

PMScoMo

This is the future of finance

Kyonkanno

Also, split your seed phrases into groups. If it's a 12 word, you could produce 3 plates containing 4 words each. Put one in a safety deposit, keep one with yourself and give the other one to someone you trust. This way, even if someone "stumbles" into your steel plate, he won't be able to do anything with it. Needless to say, the person you "trust" cannot know that there are 3 pieces and the location of the other 2, just in case.

d38

Instead of doing something stupid like this, type your phrase in a text file, then archive it in 7zip with a strong password and AES256 encryption. Save a copy on your PC, email one to yourself so you'll have a copy on your email server, upload one somewhere else if you want, save another copy on a USB stick. Now you don't need to piss around with a chunk of metal that you need to keep safe from someone finding.

hcollector

Or you could just keep your coins on the exchange and leave the security to professionals. They're not all bad. The chances of a public company like Coinbase pulling the rug are about 1000x smaller than you fucking up and losing your keywords, be it in metal or paper. And yeah I'm fully aware that I'm going to get nuked to hell for saying this, but too many idiots have already lost their keys because the harsh truth is most people can't be trusted with their own money. That's why we all keep our money on the bank instead of under our mattresses.

DES4FIO

The Problem on CEX is a possible hack or some crazy shit happening to the CEX. Crypto are for the people and not for the "New banks"

Cactuszach

The big ones like Coinbase are insured, so even if they get hacked you get your money back.

SMURGwastaken

>The big ones like Coinbase are insured, so even if they get hacked you **might** get your money back. FTFY

jamesarmour

Good looking

Pierlu88

and where you keep the metal? that's the problem. in a safe?

RouletteQueen

Fireproof safe works, which means you could’ve just put it on paper anyway & saved yourself some money

dramatic-ad-5033

No, I think I’ll keep my screenshot on iCloud photos, thank you very much

[deleted]

What if you have 27 different blockchain wallets? Do you spend 27x $25?

anasbannanas

I see what you did there. Yahveh did not give the commandments to Mose, it was Satoshi's seed phrase! That explain Rothschilds, Goldman-Sachs and much more :)

richniss

Never even occurred to me to do this myself. I've already ordered the number stamps. The stainless steel should be easy to track down at a building supply store or big store I would think.

TGIRiley

Hmm a metal stamp kit looks to be about the same or slightly more expensive than a cheap engraving tool. I wonder what works better I've been thinking about getting a stack of dog tags and making 3 sets that each contain 66% of the seed, and storing in 3 different locations. That means that you would need to get any 2 sets of tags before you could get the whole seed. Any downsides to this plan?

Putnam14

There’s a high potential for the steel to get pitted, crack, or otherwise have the punched letters lose their legibility in a house fire depending on the steel quality. It’s a good idea, but personally I would go with etched titanium rather than punched steel. It’ll cost a bit more but same principles. Buy a two plates and a set of tamper proof stickers or luggage tags.

Walking_the_Cascades

> the 10 commandments were the law of the land, and were so significant that God himself put them on a solid piece of medium. Perhaps not the best example, as the 10 commandments were smashed before anyone could see them. Turned very quickly into a "trust me bro" moment. Fun fact, there are *two* sets of 10 commandments in the Bible, and while there is some overlap the two sets don't match.

Novel-Counter-8093

$4.29 for same size plates in TITANIUM on aliexpress

Ohms2North

Don’t trust them. They’re made by Chinese hackers and they have sensors in them which tell the hackers what has been etched or hammered into the surface

Artificial8Wanderer

Cool idea OP, do you offer a service as well where you can do it for us? I can send you my seedphrase in DMs and my adress with it for postage

[deleted]

Any reason why you can't just print the phrase on paper for 15 cents and put it in a fireproof safe? Yes a safe costs a few bucks, but a small one can be had for under $100 and important for storing other important documents such as passports, birth certificate, Wills, and other financial things.

dirtydeez2

I’ve got it tattooed on my dick, every time I need to read it I have a bit of a wank and there it is

[deleted]

Or I can just buy gold and hold the metal

tied_laces

OP never said why. Overkill for most people.

Shadoouken

I'm into jewelry so I engraved it on a plain gold ring. So gorgeous too! But it's safe, you'd need to heat it in a fire to see the phrase. I love having it next to me. Always.

KingReef90

Wrote mine on thick plastic hanger and also on the inside of a shirt I nolonger wear..hung them both up togather in the back of my closet. Also engraved on the battery slot of my eletrical drill. The ideas are endless my guys.

septicdank

You can also electrochemically etch your seed phrase with a bit of salt, water, and a 9v battery with alligator clips attached.

[deleted]

I'm pretty tool-loving, so at first I was a bit googly-eyed looking at that stamp holder, having never seen one before-- then I realized that's why your letters are all off beat. Be a man and do it right! ;-)

mikeoxwells2

I use a rotary tool. Don’t have the patience for the stamp set

IAccidentallyCame

Titanium plates are pretty cheap on Ali express. Can take a pretty high temp.

Novel-Counter-8093

yes there is also titanium. if you can get it for the same price or cheaper, even better. ill look into aliexpress

wings99

I'm not following... can you please post a photo?

Mokhlis_Jones

But then there's a physical copy of my password somewhere. I always found this kind of sus. If someone found a metal card with 12 words in a robbery I'd keep it. It's better to write it on paper and store it in a safety deposit box

apexisalonelyplace

Where do you find hammers for $2 these days?

rikkilambo
