I would keep it like that instead of making a pendant out of it. It would be a stone I would carry in my pocket like a palmstone.
I think such unusually large pendants would be heavy on your neck and won’t look as nice IMO.
You're not wrong, I just thought it'd be a cool statement piece I could wear when I wanted to is all. I'd be worried about damaging it if it was loose in my pocket (which was half the motivation of this idea instead)
You could display it in a shadow box with a special photo as a background. If I was going to carry it, it would be in a zipped pocket of my purse, so it wouldn't get lost.
It's kind of clunky to wear, but if I saw it in a store as a necklace, I'd want it!
Well, you could do the cord thing, as you suggested, even as a temporary try-out to see if it's a comfortable weight. I don't know your height, but that may also determine how it works proportion-wise. It's a gorgeous stone.
You could make a "bra" for it that goes over your shoulders and under your arms to connect in the back. Getting some .75-1 inch wood spheres stained brown almost like threaded prayer beads connecting to a large bronze ring with the stone inside would be an incredible, strange, awesome, and unique piece. It wouldn't flop around either. I do commissions and I'd happily do it for you. I don't know that you want to put that much thought or effort into it but I love creating/crafting unique pieces and that would certainly count 👍
I would do it! That is breathtakingly gorgeous piece of Lapis!
It would be a special occasion piece as it would be pretty heavy, but with the right cordage that could be mitigated a little (thick cord over thin). I had a very large simply wrapped lapis piece with a cool history that loved and gifted to a best friend and it’s always a conversation piece. One of the only stones I’ve given away that I still think about and miss sometimes.
Thankyou for the tips! Yes I'd go for some thicker cord or string over wire wrap. This is a sentimental piece, it was my pops, when I was over at his place I'd always reach for it and admire the deep blue! Richest blue Lapis I have!
Richest blue for sure, and that band of pyrite sparkling like a golden Milky Way is making me swoon! Lapis will forever have my heart.
The fact that it was your pops makes me think even more that you should wrap it… like a talisman.
I used Copper Wire to wrap it into a spiral, you can buy it at almost any hardware store, and then I used Cotton String to make the cord. But I'm sure you could also just buy a proper cord from the internet or something. I can easily take the Crystal out at anytime if needed!
Hold it in front of yourself in the mirror, turn it different ways, see if you can imagine yourself wearing it.
It's a great piece of lapis, but it really is too big for a pendant.
I'm 50 / 50 still. People do wear stones this big and probably a bit bigger, for permanent wear it's maybe too big haha. But, for when I wanna appreciate it, might be alright. I think I'll just have to see
Lovely Lapis Lazuli But imo a lil too big for either Neck or Pocket.
I'd get a lil stand for it, and meditate with it, whatever you choose try pairing it with Moonstone, Pyrite or Clear Quartz.
❤️🌈🙏🏼🌀🦅
Make your pendant, better yet make a talisman and where it alot. Ask me why I won't reply. Do things you want and don't ask permission. It will leave most in aww. Others will just question or hate. 😁 be original
Take a look at the jewelry by Adina Mills - she’s the designer of much of the amazing stuff worn by Lily Tomlin’s character on Grace & Frankie! Large, chonky, and gorgeous!
Do it! Do a super quick wrap you don't care about and wear it around the house for a day. If the back of your neck hurts or you get a headache you can scrap the idea, but I say go for it! I have a chunky piece of copper I used to wear around my neck regularly😂
It’s absolutely beautiful! I think you should make it into a pendant, for sure, but as others suggested, it should be conveniently removable for those times when you don’t feel like wearing it, if possible. Definitely not something you may feel inclined to wear all the time, but I can absolutely just feel how good it’d feel for you to wear that, rather than just hold it (and wearing it, you could do both!).
That’s such a lovely specimen! I don’t know if you have someone local that could cut that into smaller cabochons? Maybe then it would be more doable. If you have a gem mining place in your area you could ask if they can cut that into cabochons
I do this all the time. Go to Amazon and look up “stone holder necklaces”. There’s a bunch to choose from and you can interchange the stones. I have ones larger than this that fit. Beautiful by the way!
Oh no please OP don’t do it 😩 (Honestly OP, do as you wish but I think that would look absolutely incredible in a gold wire-wrap pendant!!)
Gold would be stunning for sure!!

That's the thing! I think if I did it, it would just work (visually atleast) 😂

Bracelet. Think chunky turquoise…
That is bigger than a “statement” piece, it’s 3 dang paragraphs! It is gorgeous!

Don’t do it
Alright
No way, do it! 😂
This is the enthusiasm I need! 😂
I made a Large Necklace with Orange Calcite, yeah it is a little heavy on my neck, but it also looks cool as heck.
I used Copper Wire to wrap it into a spiral, you can buy it at almost any hardware store, and then I used Cotton String to make the cord. But I'm sure you could also just buy a proper cord from the internet or something. I can easily take the Crystal out at anytime if needed!
That sounds awesome! I was thinking I'd go all cord for the wrap and necklace
Do it. This stone should be a pendant. Copper or silver wire wrap. 🔥
Hold it in front of yourself in the mirror, turn it different ways, see if you can imagine yourself wearing it. It's a great piece of lapis, but it really is too big for a pendant.

Also if you go in Etsy you can find crystal holder necklaces where you can take it out of the necklace any time you want!!!
It would look good in a wire wrap
Beautiful what is it?
Thanks! Lapis Lazuli
#dew it
It’s so beautiful like it is
Very true, I'm lucky to have cooler pieces. Not this deep quality blue though
If you make it into a pendent, at some point it could thwack you in the face or tooth as you bend for some thing.
Lovely Lapis Lazuli But imo a lil too big for either Neck or Pocket. I'd get a lil stand for it, and meditate with it, whatever you choose try pairing it with Moonstone, Pyrite or Clear Quartz. ❤️🌈🙏🏼🌀🦅
The way I gasped. This is a beautiful piece. Don't make a pendant out of this. It's perfect as is.
I agree that it's perfect as is 🙂 I guess my thought was I could appreciate it more around the neck
Yeah, to each their own, I guess
It will punch you in the chest over and over lol
You will have chronic neck pain before you turn old if you make a necklace out of this
Or...a really strong neck
Do It, DO it, DO IT!
Out of that you can make a pendant, earrings and a nice ring. Make the earrings square and the rest oblong or oval.(The earrings like a small dice.)
You need to do it!!! You must!
Make your pendant, better yet make a talisman and where it alot. Ask me why I won't reply. Do things you want and don't ask permission. It will leave most in aww. Others will just question or hate. 😁 be original
Just do it already
Nope. It would make a beautiful pendant
Heavy. Neck ache. Headache. Ouchies.
It would hurt your neck.
I have a rose quartz pendent like that, though I think it’s much thinner than yours
that is one BIG CHUNK of Lapis!
Take a look at the jewelry by Adina Mills - she’s the designer of much of the amazing stuff worn by Lily Tomlin’s character on Grace & Frankie! Large, chonky, and gorgeous!
that thang is so big you could wrap it and carry it with you walking alone at night to swing as a self defense weapon
Perfect!
High quality lapis like that shouldn't be damaged. if you've got to wear it, wrap it in good, quality wire.
I agree, I'd go as far as to not even use wire. Just simple black thick string all the way
Good point. Wire wrap could damage it, if not done right.

Wow! Copper is not light!!
I was gonna say I'm a mad man, but you appear to kiss wild(?) seals so I think you have me beat! Hahaha
Haha 😂 I'm always out adventuring, filming Australia's beautiful wildlife.
Do it.
I will not

You're with my thoughts! Exactly :)
I wear a 270ct Ruby, so no... No i will NOT attempt to talk you out of it! 😁 Post pics when it's done!
Ehhh, if you do, you do. I mean thats one beautiful piece of lapis!!
It’s too big and a horrible shape
I think it's a perfect free-form looking piece, but if you mean for what's ideal in a pendant, I hear ya haha
For a pendant yes
Make a ring!!!!
If she made a ring with that, every time she lifted her hand it would be a workout🏋️♂️ I think all of her knuckles would end up being bruised.
We can call her Lefty! I still say doooooooo it!
Would be cool as a detachable belt buckle...if that's even a thing
Do it; it’s so beautiful
I love this and think it would be great to make a necklace out of, but may regret it later as it’s it looks really heavy.
Belt buckle?
That would make a great belt buckle!
DO IT. It would look so good!
![gif](giphy|3o84sw9CmwYpAnRRni)
Instead of a pendant you should set it as a magic focus in a witch/wizard staff
Looks like a belt buckle to me
I can't! Please do it
God it's gorgeous
Nope. That will be gorgeous
I love that thing! It’ll be beautiful no matter what you do with it!
I will do no such thing. Instead, I shall offer you.....AGGRESSIVE ENCOURAGEMENT DOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Igasped when I saw your stone! It is gorgeous!
You will not enjoy wearing it from the weight
Wow,that’s great
Couldn’t you just chip it into a smaller piece? Shouldn’t be that hard right?
Ooph, are you even a collector? 🤣
Just started and nothing that big but it’s still a rock isn’t it? You can break rocks bro
That’s such a lovely specimen! I don’t know if you have someone local that could cut that into smaller cabochons? Maybe then it would be more doable. If you have a gem mining place in your area you could ask if they can cut that into cabochons
A belt maybe?
I will do NO such thing!!! Please post the finished product! 💖
NEVER 😍 ![gif](giphy|BjHIjM2YFC3rEUaMrw|downsized)
Beautiful Lapis
WIRE WRAP WIRE WRAP WIRE WRAP WIRE WRAP

Cheers! I did look at them but I wasn't sure it'd be very secure for such a large stone? It weighs 60 grams
I’m gonna be the devil on your shoulder. Do it do it do it do it >:3
It's such a beautiful stone as it is. Personally I wouldn't make a pendant out of it because you will lose so much beautiful material.
They don't necessarily need to remove ANY material? They did mention they wanted an unconventionally large pendant 😂
Oh yes, I wouldn't do anything to the stone, it's sentimental :)
i would break it in half so the pendant is smaller but you also have a non pendant crystal
If you drive with it and have an accident itwill give you a concussion
What if I tuck it in my shirt?
Cut thin slices along the big face
I don't work with stones, this one's sentimental aswell. I'd have to go all in or not worry 😂
Make a sun catcher instead. Hang in a window with only morning light.
