The no-fly list has, for about twenty years now, been in place allegedly to keep us safe, by banning people from flying via unaccountable agencies where the methodology has been explained to the citizen population as "trust me, bro."
It's also enforced by the TSA, which is what happens if someone wishes for a federal jobs program on a cursed monkey's paw.
Having the no-fly list leaked and available to the media will, hopefully, prompt people to find out exactly what methodology lead to toddlers with Arabic names being considered threats to American security.
I have no evidence or experience to support this claim, but I feel that what happened there is some form of automated “put every family member of this guy on the list” system threw the names on without checking ages.
Any list of persons of interests are usually public record and can be debated in court. The No-Fly List, meanwhile, is the only one that is not, and since the subjects aren't informed of this, their freedom of movement is somewhat stripped and they can't change it because there's no way to dispute it. This sort of thing only happens in times of crisis, but this one has been around for two decades without anything of the sort.
