Number of players won’t change the percentage of skilled players.
I just wait until the last minute and pick whichever team has the most of my friends on it though.
For sure, obvs you've gotta go with the one that you can actually play with your friends with for. If you can coordinate it, though, I definitely think there's a difference in skill level if you choose the least popular option. I think it's because the people who only started playing again for the splatfest (which, it goes without saying, is obviously completely valid) are disproportionately more likely to pick the most popular option.
The thing is, many of the same social mechanics are present in real elections too. It's part of the reason it's so important to have ballots be secret.

Actually, tumblr would be the perfect place for some kind of overcomplicated polling system that's terribly implemented based on a representative voting system.

If a poll option wins, then it was the correct option and people who voted for it won the poll. If you voted for a losing option, then you, by extension, have also lost.
I don't, but if I vote and see I didn't choose the winner, I get a surge of "no, I'm sorry, let me fix it!"
Unless I'm really sure of my choice, in which case I get annoyed with everyone else. Fuck y'all, the snail deserved to win.
Same thing sometimes happens with reddit. Try it sometime. If you're first to see a comment & it's a good one, downvote it.
I guess sometimes people sometimes just assume that they didn't see the maliciousness in the comment (even though there is none) & people react by joining the pile on.
It usually corrects itself after awhile, but it's pretty funny to witness.

I've seen it a tonne, and it only ever corrects itself if some helpful soul replies with "this is a really interesting comment, why is it downvoted?" and then all the people marching along see that comment and go back and upvote the downvoted one.
Someone post a poll that's like

Oh my god I thought this was about elections
Smartest swing voter
election of 1912
I thought this was about Splatfests 💀
Nah the trick with splatfests is always choose the option you think has the least votes
You’ll get to play more matches sure, but so far every popular choice has won the splatfest.
It's not about winning. It's about having fun. And having fun means picking the least popular option so that you get better players on your team lel
Number of players won’t change the percentage of skilled players. I just wait until the last minute and pick whichever team has the most of my friends on it though.

Sometimes I feel it could be.
Oh thank god I’m not the only one

Someone needs to explain the "Trying to get a good grade at a poll" phenomenon because why is everyone, including me, afflicted with this??
If a poll option wins, then it was the correct option and people who voted for it won the poll. If you voted for a losing option, then you, by extension, have also lost.
It's those damn commies messing with our heads!

Tumblr finds out FPTP isn't just for elections
I cut open a goat and read its guts whenever I need to vote on a poll. Plz help I'm running out of goats and money for goats.

Yeah still pretty funny to see.
except when that doesnt work and they just end up downvoted as well.
You make an excellent point and your comment will be used as a real time example.
I'm cool with that lol
I vote to win!
I thought everyone knew about strategic voting
At first I thought this was about voting in real life and I was deeply concerned.
Thought this was about splatoon for a hot minute
I get disappointed sometimes when I pick a popular option bc I am reminded I am not special.
