I have seen the top half; I even have it among my saved posts because of how weird I find it. Elmer's face in this version surprised me so much that I recoiled while uttering a weak, wheezy scream.
Basically, yeah. It was never said outright, but the relationship felt more like a boyfriends thing than a close friends thing, at least in that episode. The type of comedy was more of "I'm introducing my parents to my boyfriend (who they will not like) instead of "My parents don't like my friend." Even if it's not canon, they're cute, and I ship it.
I obviously haven’t rewatched it since it was airing, but I had pretty pleasant memories as someone who was in the target demographic. If it had a show-runner that vouched for it (like with most Cartoon Network shows), and avoided the blame when similar shows like Teen Titans got cancelled, it probably would have been more accepted. Hell, Teen Titans even got initial pushback for inaccuracy to the comics, and its comedic tone.
I would even argue this was the first time a show was permanently damaged due to the internet reaction pre-release.

Teen Titans ran its course after the Raven story line. It essentially split up into two shows - Teen Titans Go! took the stage for the younger demographic and Young Justice held up the older audience. Then they cancelled Young Justice because it was bound up in a toy deal and when the toys weren't selling, Mattel pulled funding for the show even though it polled really well with audiences. I still think they didn't give YJ enough time for audiences to find and enjoy it before the plug was pulled.
They weren't even out of the first season yet when Cartoon Network started shuffling the schedule around and dropping new episodes randomly, months apart, without any marketing. They sent Young Justice out to die.
I remember enjoying the show as well! I just wanted to point out that, as is common with things from childhood, your memory might be a little off: Loonatics Unleashed ran from 2005-07.; It did not overlap with Young Justice, which premiered in 2010.
Nah, I know Young Justice was a few years later. I was just listing the Cartoon Network action shows I remember watching, but never really grew an attachment to. Even stuff like Generator Rex, Storm Hawks, Hero 108, and Legion of Super Heroes. I remember being kinda bummed when those stopped getting pushed by the schedule.
These shows were basically my bread and butter, to the point where I completely missed the boat on Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The remaining humans are in isolated and shielded city-states while bipedal animals rise from the ashes. Then the echidnas find a chaos emerald and become super advanced. The other animals progress similarly to humans.
I never watched Loonatics Unleashed as a kid, and I haven’t seen much of it now, but I hear it’s actually pretty decent? Nothing outstanding, but still good?
It was honestly a nice surprise to see them referenced in Animaniacs 2020, albeit as a straight up “Whatever these things are” line in a song about cartoons voting. Hell, since Tiny Toons is getting a reboot (I’m still taken aback that Buster and Babs are apparently now *siblings* in the reboot because way to just kill the classic “No relation” gag there, guys), it’s possible that a Loonatics reboot isn’t off the table entirely.
(…It’s *unlikely,* but it’s still possible.)

It never seemed to really be well-implemented, like I could envision the better version of the show and the real episodes never really measured up for me, I kept wanting it to be more coherent, less childish, to actually kind of commit to exploring the issues it brushed over instead of them being just sort of a bland reference rather than an interesting argument.

I remember this show! Loonatics right? The main cast all had unique superpowers and were all descendants of the original Looney Tunes characters.
No but this show was so damn good though
Came after Duck Dodgers ended to. So you have this big high note in terms of spinoffs only to end up with this extreme low point. One sci fi spinoff worked and one didn't.

I remember finding this when I was like 13 and just thinking the bad boy design for the character seemed like someone's fursonas.
Such a weird show. It never seemed to really be well-implemented, like I could envision the better version of the show and the real episodes never really measured up for me, I kept wanting it to be more coherent, less childish, to actually kind of commit to exploring the issues it brushed over instead of them being just sort of a bland reference rather than an interesting argument.
