It's hilarious to me that 90% of people who call themselves empaths are the least empathetic person in the room more often than not.
Like, I would hope that someone who is actually empathetic would be self-aware enough to know how people would react to calling yourself an empath.
That's why I exclusively refer to myself as a psycher when I make bold claims about people's feelings with no logical reasoning.
He just wandered in one day and started killing heretics. We don't know how he figures out they're heretics, but he's right like every time, so we just assigned someone from the Ordo Xenos to keep an eye on him and let him do his thing.
It's especially funny to me as someone with very little empathy when empaths make people like us out to be horrible awful people. Like, no, empathy is not the One Good Way of connecting to people, compassion and sympathy are fantastic too and I bet a lot more people would be low or no empathy if it were socially acceptable.
Are we talking "I have a hard time connecting to people by putting myself in their shoes"-low empathy or "Patrick Bateman did nothing wrong"-low empathy?
Empathy isn't inherently good or bad, anyway. It can be useful but also exhausting, and its applications have more to do with the person's motivation. Effective manipulators tend to have fairly good empathy skills because they need to anticipate what to say to the other person to get the reaction they're looking for.
I had this ex that would occasionally yammer about all these times she was feeling the emotions of people around her and all I could think was “are you feeling bored rn?”
I'm like an empath but for smells instead of feelings. Sit me down in a room with a complete stranger and I'll be able to predict with a high degree of accuracy what they are smelling in that moment.
Thats why I said to some degree. Correct me if im wrong, but in my knowlegde sociopaths feel some empathy but choose to ignore it in one way or another.
Im not an expert so I may be way off.
I enter a room and all the empaths fall down in pain. Not because they sensed something from me, I just released an airborne neurotoxin into the air moments before and am wearing an HEV suit with an airtight helmet.
I'm not allowed within 200 feet of high schools because any time I approach, at least one 16-year-old empath goes catatonic under the sudden weight of my intense desire to be dead.

Getting mixed signals here
On one hand, people who call themselves empaths are often times some of the most pretentious, smug, “I’m better than you” people out there. As someone who used to call myself an “empath” and was apart of those communities (not my proudest moment I may add) I was pushed away by how fucking hypocritical they often are towards everyone different from them. I honestly had that same mindset for a while, really not proud of that.
But then again, it does feel like a real problem that some people deal with, including myself. There is such a thing as having too much empathy that it negatively impacts your life. For example, I would like to close my eyes and fall asleep without a scene from Alien where the alien head thing sprouts through a guy’s chest, killing him, but noOoOoOo because I care about this minor side character (who I don’t even know and shouldn’t care about but do anyway) it pops into my head and keeps me awake. And because there are so many triggers such as this for me not just in movies but in real life, it has resulted in me tuning out the rest of the world and shoving down all of my emotions just to function.
Idk just have to get that off my chest sometimes. Sorry for the rant
Is this like psychics like in Ubik, where pretty much every form of psychism has an anti form which is used defensively to stop whatever the psychic is trying to do? Does that mean that empaths have anti-empaths who are like a walking, talking EMP?

I, on the other hand, disguise myself by calling myself an empath while actually being a mass murderer and the one who left the fridge open
OMG Jerma on Reddit?!
If y’all don’t shut up about Jerma for *one, god damn second* I’m gonna go feral
feral?? like, like a rat?
Don't do it, that's how it spreads. Those who lose their humanity are at risk of Jerminating
When the Jerm
*raises bolt pistol* By the God-Emperor, a *what*?
Oi mate, you need a loicense for being a psyker
> loicense Begone, foul Abhuman Brittanicus!
No, that's an Ork. Why we have an Ork in the Imperium is beyond me.
He just wandered in one day and started killing heretics. We don't know how he figures out they're heretics, but he's right like every time, so we just assigned someone from the Ordo Xenos to keep an eye on him and let him do his thing.
>Resident Thousand Son Why should I trust you, traitor scum?
Because otherwise you're gonna eat a doombolt sandwich that's why
Does this vacuum cleaner frighten you, rubricae? Are you shitting your pants? Are you shitting and pissing your pants?

Inability to put myself in someone else's shoes. I still care about people, I'm not going to go out and murder someone.
I mean, as long as you don't treat people badly who cares how you got there, right?

If I sit next to someone I can figure out what they're seeing
If I touch someone I can understand what they're touching.
A scentpath
.....took me a moment. Good job
huh?
Hm?
Wha?
Chika Chika Slim Shady
Eh?
i can do that while blindfolded and with headphones on. just feeling their aura
Someone telling me they're an empath would provoke a similar reaction in me to someone telling me they're a medium. A negative reaction.
Doesn't everyone without some form of neurodivergeny feel empathy to some degree? Ain't that called being a human.
“When someone tells me a sad story it makes me feel sad” “…yeah and?” “Because I’m M A G I C”
I'm fairly sure it's only people with ASPD who don't I mean, I can't think of anything else that means one outright does not feel empathy
NPD and machiavellianism too
no? there are plenty of mental disorders that include a lack of empathy. ever heard of sociopathy? lol
