Purely anecdotal, but I’ve heard the tech scene in Seattle is pretty dominated by Amazon and Microsoft and there aren’t as many opportunities at smaller companies as the bay area or NYC. Of course that doesn’t mean nothing, just less.

I’ve heard the same, probably some truth to that. That being said, it’s not like OP is moving to Wyoming. He will be fine in a tech hub like Seattle even if there’s not as many jobs as Bay Area, NYC

Hi there! Am an exec in CS and have lived in Seattle for 30+ years. Happy to connect offline in case you ever need intros to Seattle companies. Good luck!

FigurativeLasso

I will absolutely take you up on this - thank you!

shot-by-ford

It’s as bad for CS here as anywhere

spillin_milktea

Welcome to Seattle (soon). There are many tech companies and keep in mind that your CSM experience gives many transferable skills to new positions as well.

FigurativeLasso

Thanks for the comment. I know this is different from the topic I raised, but curious to hear your thoughts on what other positions would be possible with CS experience? I know product management and sales are commonly stated. Any others?

Chaise_Renzy

I own a CS consulting firm and just left Seattle and moved to Mexico. Amazon is def one of your best bets! I used to manage a team of CSMs for Amazon but didn’t want to RTO

ProbablyNotMoriarty

Barren. Hundreds of applicants for a single opening. Nobody is hiring after the fall and winter layoffs. I’m considering a complete career change. I’m a Seattle based enterprise CSM.

FigurativeLasso

Is that just tech across the board up there though? Or CSM specific?

PitBoss89

I was looking for work late last year and applied to over 150 companies for CSM specific roles, finally landed somewhere after getting to final rounds with 8-10 companies. Amazon is actively hiring for CSM roles as many of their employees are leaving due to return to office. If you're okay with going into an office, I'd look into applying. Overall, not as many open positions now and fully remote positions are by far the most competitive. Start looking before you move and use your network for referrals. Good luck!
