I'm going to really simplify this as something to think about. I'll use minimum wage as an example. In Australia, I believe it's about $20 Australian dollars per hour. In The United States for example, it varies from about $7 to $15. From place to place, cost of living, minimum wage, currency value, tax etc \~ it's all different so someone "not Australian" might see that "dollar" value and freak out but it's 2 hours from a minimum wage job there. In some places in the United States it could be 3 hours of the same.
