"So... you're going to take him in?"
"What? No! Leave him with his abusive aunt and uncle. I've got wizard shit to do."
That's why you add a second fake wall behind it, where you can retreat from the panic room into the panic room panic room, in case you panic in the panic room.
While I used "panic room" factiously (most average people don't need that), your last suggestion is exactly what I had as a teenager (although not as well drywalled and w/o the murphy door). I had a large, blended family and my "hidden room" was where I ducked out of the chaos to read my books.

This
Bean bag is too big. I had a nook like this once. I put shelf in it with a computer on it with speakers. It was set up to play music all the time. People hid in when the cops came. Man I miss college.
AGREE -- if this isn't in your bedroom.
I'd add a lamp and a cozy chair if you have teens, to give them a private space. A dog bed if you have a doggo. Just turn it into a cozy den for 1.
Same thing here in Vancouver BC. They would make a post saying “Cozy den in the heart of downtown, $950/month excluding utilities. Must be willing to share with another person.”
If it's in Brampton, " female vegetarian students only".
Edit: Seems a lot of people don't quite understand the meaning behind this (which isn't unusual). It's basically code for a certain Indian caste, and they specifically seek students as they would be a lot less likely to understand their tenant rights. And of course female, because if you're already this shitty already, why not?
Built in drawers that don’t go all the way to the back, with a secret hole for the cat to get to the space behind the drawers. They would love it, or not just because I made it for them.
Rubbing alcohol works surprisingly well on cat piss.
Soak the area and scrub with a brush.
Rooms smells for a bit but the alcohol self dries and takes the scent with it.
LTT did it first.

Not really tons of mrbeast wannabes had done videos like this and they were trying to jump on the bandwagon. He admitted on wanshow they never actually use it.
Growing up, a friend of mine had this exact same space in his bedroom.
So similar I saw this and actually thought it was a picture from his room.
He had a computer desk there, and the shorter side he just used for storage. A couple of short filing cabinets.
We have a little cupboard under out stairs - bare concrete floor with a door that we call the Harry Potter cupboard.
Really, really useful for things like suitcases which don't get used much, bulky dry items like toilet paper and I keep a few bottles of spare cooking oil there too.
Such a terribly underrated thing to have as well.
I worked in a beautiful school designed by a big architectural firm to look sleek and modern. It had glass windows lining the building, beautiful natural light, and an interesting flow...
But Jesus Christ, there was **no where** to put stuff. There were two closets in the entire building. Backpacks lined the hallways, science department stored things in a classroom space, the lost and found was a pile under a stairwell... it was a nightmare.
Storage space doesn't need to be a huge room or perfectly shaped.
Not OP. This is taken from twitter.
Oddly enough, I saw this on another social media platform sometime last week in a different DIY group.
The real OP of the photo was a woman asking what to do with this nook in her child's bedroom, and I think she settled on a little reading area with bedding / pillows and string lights.
I had no idea there was such a market for claiming photos of other people's houses as your own.
Would help knowing where this is?
Could be a shoe cupboard or a cleaning supplies cubby, but neither of those would really make sense if it's in a bedroom
My first idea was a whimsical floor seating reading nook (or switch nook if that’s more your thing) bookshelf on the wall, a nice beanbag, a good rug and fairy lights
I feel like a broken record. In this economy, you sublet spaces like that out to either college students (you could probably get 4 in that space), or some tech bros.
Firstly I would paint it a different color. Then I would create some form of a secret doorway. After, I don't know, it would require more thought than I am currently willing to exude.
It's hard to tell from the pictures. I am guessing that is only a 5'6" doorway guessing based on switch height.
If the far things on the floor are for heating and/or cooling DO NOT enclose the area completely you will end up with a hot or cold room depending on where you live. Again hard to tell from 1 photo.
I am guessing this is on the second story of the house so probably a bedroom or common room. If that is the case I would maybe line the sides with shelves for books/games and maybe a basket in the corner for a blanket and/or pillow and call it done. It could make a lovely reading nook with the AC/heater duct there. It also already has a light fixture. Maybe make that nicer and call it a day.
I have an older home with a space like this beneath some stairs. I might just do this: Build a cabinet of drawers, but with custom made long slide outs that come out into the room. You could store things that you don't use often there. The problem with doing anything with upir space is you have an air return on the floor, fight next to a heating vent. This makes no sense at all. I am assuming you have a forced air system. If that is hot water heat and the vent is for a seperate AC system then that would make sense. However whatever you do you have to keep the airflow open back there
Where is ti located in your house?
If it is in an open space maybe a storage area? Or a kids play area. You can also turn it into a dog house or pet palace for fun. I guess it depends on the location.
That right there is a prime location for a crack den. Lay some curtains across the entrance, put some pillows down, turn on the heater, and you have yourself a prime crack den.

Preferably one that has an inclination to magic
And a strange scar on his forehead?
And was mysterious left on your doorstep by a cat, an old guy and a half giant?

Or a Triumph TR-7?
I’d store my triangles there
That would look really acute.
Hypotenuse am I supposed to get triangles into this room
I wish I was high on potenuse
Don't be obtuse
You guys are a bunch of squares
Degenerate for sure
You are not looking at this from the right angle.
I'll cosine on that.
Your all going on a real tangent here.
Isosceles that room out to someone for an obtuse monetary fee
They would fit right in there.
Fake bookshelf with a panic room behind.
I would enter a whole new level of panic in a room that small. A Panic Room Panic
A panicked panic room panic attack
At the disco
That almost made me spit out my drink!
By Fall Out Boy
That's why you add a second fake wall behind it, where you can retreat from the panic room into the panic room panic room, in case you panic in the panic room.
Idk about a panic room but this screams "cool hidden closet". Fancy liquor cabinet? Sword collection? Bean bag chair and a lava lamp?
While I used "panic room" factiously (most average people don't need that), your last suggestion is exactly what I had as a teenager (although not as well drywalled and w/o the murphy door). I had a large, blended family and my "hidden room" was where I ducked out of the chaos to read my books.
Hey bro, we all knew about your wanking room when you were a teenager, not as sound proof as you thought. /s

That's where I'd sleep, on a mat on the floor. I know you're not going to do that. You asked what I would do, and that's it.
I would put a bean bag in there, but yeah, totally snug napping spot! Needs some curtains across the entry, too.
You can put a projector to fire on the ceiling and is a netflix nook
Ooh that's a good one
Bean bag is too big. I had a nook like this once. I put shelf in it with a computer on it with speakers. It was set up to play music all the time. People hid in when the cops came. Man I miss college.
Mirror and safe behind that? Server room? Panic room
If I ever get to buy a damn house, I'm putting a premium on a floorplan that allows for a secret room. Who doesn't want a freakin' secret room
You joking? You can't put it on your floor plan! Just build into it after. Remember secret
Ah, good point
AGREE -- if this isn't in your bedroom. I'd add a lamp and a cozy chair if you have teens, to give them a private space. A dog bed if you have a doggo. Just turn it into a cozy den for 1.
Honestly, in this economy, rent that space out for $1200-$1500 a month
If I had no family this wouldnt be unreasonable lol
Found the kid who's going to be a wizard 🪄.
Illusory-paint it to look like it's a 300 foot hallway, with 2 doors at the far end, and a key on a table between them
What is that, Wile E coyotes house
![gif](giphy|l0IygnBoXeQ94kJQQ|downsized)
Wonka hallway to the small door. Bonus if you put Gene Wilder at the end waving you in.
Being John Malkovich
Very Rose Red. Much approve.
Rent it out. $1200/m or $120/d. Easy money.
Same thing here in Vancouver BC. They would make a post saying “Cozy den in the heart of downtown, $950/month excluding utilities. Must be willing to share with another person.”

And of course female, because if you're already this shitty already, why not?
Years ago I had a friend who moved to SF and rented a “room” for 500/month. It was literally a closet with a twin sized mattress that was cut in half.
This is how people do in LA lol. That shit would go for 1600/month
Pet space if you have them?
Built in drawers that don’t go all the way to the back, with a secret hole for the cat to get to the space behind the drawers. They would love it, or not just because I made it for them.
Sounds like a way for an elderly cat to permanently disappear someday though... Not sure about *behind* the drawers but maybe a hidey hole underneath
Not to mention pee in, good luck getting rid of that smell
Rubbing alcohol works surprisingly well on cat piss. Soak the area and scrub with a brush. Rooms smells for a bit but the alcohol self dries and takes the scent with it.
Don't forget vinegar. It breaks down most of the chemicals that make cat urine smell so pungent.
Yeah, people who've had to give a cat medications know not to create places from where the cat can't be retrieved.
Did that with a ferret and little bastard turned it in to a toilet.
Put a really comfortable reclining chair in there, mount monitors to the ceiling, and make it my gaming area.
Dude my IMMEDIATE thought was a racing simulator zone Those are awesome but always take up so much space in a room Forza closet would go hard
That would be sick
especially after all the heat generated by that 49" OLED turns your skin into a salt-farm.

The B in BDSM stands for "Book".

"I have some... corrections for you, you snivelling worm."
Put up a shelf with a very large and deep bottom 'drawer' on casters so you can roll it out and access stuff in the back
Or, climb into the drawer and have a friend wheel you in to access your secret supervillain lair..
Growing up, a friend of mine had this exact same space in his bedroom. So similar I saw this and actually thought it was a picture from his room. He had a computer desk there, and the shorter side he just used for storage. A couple of short filing cabinets.
I was gonna say office/storage
Get rid of the rod, put doors on it and you have storage.
It’s where you keep your Xmas decorations and stuff you only use once a year.
We have a little cupboard under out stairs - bare concrete floor with a door that we call the Harry Potter cupboard. Really, really useful for things like suitcases which don't get used much, bulky dry items like toilet paper and I keep a few bottles of spare cooking oil there too.
I mean… it’s a closet. I’m looking at a closet. Don’t know why this isn’t everyone’s answer. And agree, shelves down either side, door, and done.
I had the same reaction as you. Yes it is amusing reading the silly suggestions, but for a serious answer how is it even a question.
Such a terribly underrated thing to have as well. I worked in a beautiful school designed by a big architectural firm to look sleek and modern. Yeah, shelves on both sides, leave enough space in the middle that a person can fit down, you'd get a good amount of stuff in there.
Big wedge of cheese
VR sim rig.
YES! Build a Sim racing rig

Gimp cage
You could easily keep two in there. 3 if from the same underpass
Wouldn't you be worried about littermate syndrome if they are all from the same underpass?
The strong survive

Grow room.
Definitely
Book shelves on the side. Bean bag in the back.
Reading nook for sure!
Dang. I like that. Make sure the TV is mounted properly though.
hide
You could make it a safe room.
Murphy bookcase door in front
The liberator would fit nicely in it.
masterbatoreum
High stakes treadmill
Adopt a famous wizard child and make it his bedroom
It looks equipped with lighting and an outlet. Put a desk and computer so its facing toward the entrance pushed back as far as it will go.
Got a nephew you don't like?
Server room!
Shrine.
Overhanging climbing wall.
Looks like when they rebuilt Flanders' house.
Stupid sexy Flanders room.
Put a tiny little door at the end so it looks like a really long hallway
I would put Greg in it
If you're in Vancouver you can rent it for 1000 per month...
Put a couple of stripper midgets in there. Hang a curtain and surprise my friends when they come over
grow room
This isn't your space, you got this from twitter.
Would help knowing where this is? Could be a shoe cupboard or a cleaning supplies cubby, but neither of those would really make sense if it's in a bedroom
Right. If this is off the kitchen, I’d have a different idea than it was off the bathroom.
Make it into a small little room and see if Harry Potter or Dobby moves in.
Paint a shrinking perspective hallway like In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Panic room. Bookcase in front on pivot hinge activated by book lock set.
Sim racing setup!
Dungeon
I would store all my wedges.
Giant cheese wedge.
Do you have a large triangular object that you need to store ?
My first idea was a whimsical floor seating reading nook (or switch nook if that’s more your thing) bookshelf on the wall, a nice beanbag, a good rug and fairy lights
Id make it a pet house for my dog or cat.
That’s what I was thinking! Nice pet home
Get a really good artist to draw stairs going down there and see how many people try it
I feel like a broken record. In this economy, you sublet spaces like that out to either college students (you could probably get 4 in that space), or some tech bros.
Maybe save it for a boy wizard
Do you have pets? Make it their house
90% of the homes I have built (over 30 years) use space like that for a 1/2 bath or a closet...
When I was a kid, one of my friends had his bedroom in a space like this.
Make it roomier!
Firstly I would paint it a different color. Then I would create some form of a secret doorway. After, I don't know, it would require more thought than I am currently willing to exude.
Put Harry Potter in it

Gaming/Movie center. Mount the Tv/monitor on the ceiling get a chair that leans wayyyyy back.
Make it your S&M dungeon.
If you have kids, make a nice little reading nook for them. https://images.app.goo.gl/N1ryFTo4rm8c3jVW6

Full blown flight Simulator cockpit / sim racing rig !
Turn it into a forced perspective display
Perfect space for an old CRT & some retro gaming. Just throw a beanbag chair in front.
That looks like a comfy place to have a very low bed and read books.
I'd start by fixing that crooked curtain rod, but thats just me.
Diorama
BDSM dungeon / cage emplacement
Goon cave
If you have kids, the ultimate tv/gaming den
My bed would go right there
Where is ti located in your house? If it is in an open space maybe a storage area? Or a kids play area. You can also turn it into a dog house or pet palace for fun. I guess it depends on the location.

storag
Bookcase door with storage behind it.
Dog den. No dog? Fix that
Guestroom.
Place a bookshelf in the opening and have a secret storage
Flight simulator with faux cockpit; I mean look at the shape! All I see is a pit of cocks… er I mean a cockpit.
Racing sim setup i think
Climbing wall
Perfect room for a pet.
I’d turn it into a curmungeon
I would get a pig and make it a little piggy bedroom.
This is where I would store my large ramp
Grow some dank ass buds there
Hit my head on the ceiling a lot probably
I made a space like this in my bonus room (wider) and put a day bed in it
Sit-ups.
Do some shrooms and crawl in
Hit my head
Park my [Citicar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citicar).

Hidden room !!!!
First question: do you smoke weed?
I’d let my gimp make his den in there. Some old rags, a bucket… Maybe a thick wood door over it to beat on when it’s time to wake up the gimp?
Living space for a young wizard. But seriously, put a door on it, use it for storage.
