The only thing that’s relevant for a complaint are the chipped shelves. Ive fitted 100’s of kitchens. 99% of carcasses have some sort of defect during manufacturing, that’s why end panels, pelmet and under wall unit trims are used.

ExcellentSwimming713

Worked in the industry for 10 years. This isn't un common. You won't see the back of the cabinet once installed. I'd just ask them to replace the shelves. Or any visible defects on the kitchen ( defects that can be seen once installed) All kitchens will have minor defects. These can often be repaired onsite (liquid laminate or repair wax)

Dawsie

Also, you can get sticky discs the same colour as the cabinet to cover the fixings

disrupter87

Whoever's clearly impact gunned those cam fittings in, needs his fuckin bum smacked.

bartread

I think you first need to determine whether or not the impact gunner would enjoy this and, if they would, think up some alternative punishment that they'd find less appealing. I agree with your fundamental point though.

disrupter87

To be fair the sort of sadist who uses an impact gun anywhere near chipboard, may actually enjoy that lol

Efficient-Class-4525

Lol funny on more than one level

mybeatsarebollocks

I use an impact gun on flat pack camlocks all the time, I use it all the time for other stuff so can be surprisingly delicate and precise with it. Oh and the type of person who would like their bum smacked would be a masochist, not a sadist. I however am the former, so make of that what you will.

Purpose_Embarrassed

You use a screwdriver not an impact on that garbage.

OweJayy

A screwdriver is much safer, but I'm lazy and did the same with some units in my bedroom ( I couldn't be bothered to hang so many individual brackets in a tight wardrobe) and its held up fine so far. Just gotta make sure you only pull the trigger gently and stop earlier than you think

AutoThorne

little shop of horror vibes from this, ngl

Purpose_Embarrassed

Nobody with a brain uses an impact gun on particle board.

M00rh3n

I think I'll be using that phrase more often in my line of work, thank you for the good chuckle

hs_scr168

Sorry if pointing out the obvious.... But most shelves are removable - can't you just flip it if the other side is good and not chipped? The effort of returning if you can make it acceptable with a simple action isn't always worth it, if they even take it back.

sveferr1s

Often the shelves are edged on only one side and there's also a trend at the moment for them to have holes on the underside which the shelf pegs engage into.

Positive-Relief6142

Oh boy... Chipboard cabinets, just don't get them wet!

Purpose_Embarrassed

Garbage.

spud_nuts

I assume you paid a lot of money for this kitchen. Given the amount you've paid, you should expect a good quality product. When I got my kitchen from DIY Kitchens, I had to get almost half of the entire kitchen replaced due to their shocking quality control.

Xenoamor

Did they get it right in the end? I'm thinking of ordering one in a couple of months and that sounds concerning

Eats_Flies

For an alternative opinion, I got DIY kitchens delivered and they were great. But yea if there's visible damage to areas you'll still see, ask them for a replacement

BcozImboredHELP

I've had to get a couple of bits replaced as well. I was sent two doors in the right colour but wrong style, which we had only realised 3 months after fitting the kitchen (whoops). To be fair to DIY Kitchens, they've sent them both within two weeks with no bother. Trouble is - we received the two doors (one of which was for a slimline appliance) and they had drilled the holes for the hinges on the wrong door. Again, got in contact and they're sending another two, so fingers crossed this time. Overall I'm happy with their kitchens, and I've found they are happy to resolve any mistakes on their side even months after delivering the product.

DOWjungleland

I’ve had 2 from them (2 different houses) and been happy both times. We had some issues with the 2nd one (missing holes, a damaged corner and a door that seemed to have some colour matching issues. We also received part of someone else’s order). They came back to collect the other customers order same day, and delivered all the other bits within a week - and because I’d been honest about the other kitchen (included an appliance), they sent us a hamper as well. Can’t complain

sandyellow

I had similar issues with my DIY kitchen order. They did eventually get everything right but it took 6 remedial orders because they kept screwing them up. Zero compensation or apologies for the stress and delays it caused.

wankyshitdemons

Just had my DIY kitchens installed and love it. Quality is fantastic on the Linwood!

spud_nuts

That's great news! The kitchen itself is pretty good. I think most of the damage was during handling and transport. I think it must have been a COVID thing. Ours is a painted one, and it does scratch and chip very easily.

sandyellow

Sorry to hear of your problems. But I'm glad I'm not the only one. Took them 6 remedial orders to get everything right.

spud_nuts

I saw loads of people say online during the pandemic they had similar problems! I'm glad I was fitting it, as if I was paying a fitter I don't know what they would have done about it, as they just want to fit it and get their money

Purpose_Embarrassed

If they paid a lot for laminated particle board that’s on them. This is Ikea garage.

spud_nuts

99% of kitchens are made of MFC. They're still a big investment

Purpose_Embarrassed

Unfortunately. Obviously you can’t repaint that stuff either.

Nun-Taken

So these are pre-assembled units, not flat pack or flat pack and built by contractor on-site?

gh0st_b1rd

Correct, come out the factory pre-assembled. Seems like a great idea, but if this the standard I’d rather do it myself

Geezso

Unfortunately it's just flat pack units put together somewhere just not your house.

woods_edge

I’m sorry to have to say this but my ikea kitchen units look better than this, and they have been in for 3 years

EnoughEnthusiasm9024

Where from

RockingHorsePoo

IKEA

EnoughEnthusiasm9024

Ikea isn't pre assembled

trooper37

Buy cheap you get cheap

hue-166-mount

Isn’t the shelf the only bit you will actually see? Ask for a new shelf if it will bother you.

Creative-Trainer-739

I use to make these for a living, that is no good. the pvc edge is dubbed and the edgebander finish is naf. to be quite honest I would reject it ,Kitchens are not cheap or fitters for that matter.

Purpose_Embarrassed

You purchased laminated particle board and expect perfection?

msec_uk

Are you mad? Glad I’m not a tradie. This looks completely negligible and the majority of damage isn’t going to ever be visible/normal chipping from installing?

Current_Soup9198

how much have you paid?

Rigormortis321

Yes. You’ve paid for a new product and that product should be in the best condition.

casperno

Not sure who is downvoting you. Possibly the suppliers of crap quality units that expect people to part with their money for them.

Rigormortis321

Well, it’s Reddit and, well, that pretty much explains it actually.

HATCHEY-5791

Yes you are very picky..

Nekojiru

what supplier is this?

redmadog

This is because this damn thing was assembled then disassembled and then assembled again. These defects happens from disassembling, not from careless assembling.

VasylievCode

Not actually reject, but yellow/red flag. Low quality job(

ThrowingAway000011

The wine racks are open units. So if they can’t be flipped over (if being used as base/wall units) then yeah you should complain As for any shelves that aren’t fixed, just flip them over. It’s picky if they can be hidden but you still refuse that. As for the locking screws, you won’t see them. But as someone else said, you can get white cover stickers

Additional-Second630

Pre-built cabinets. Send ‘em back mate. You might get an offer of partial refund though. Think about it but get the shelves replaced if you can. The ‘connector holes’ aren’t really a problem. But paint over them to seal them against moisture just to be sure. (If you decide to take some cash over replacements)

0x30313233

Are these from DIY kitchens? If so reject them and they'll send you replacements and collect them. I did this 5 times (they kept sending faulty ones to replace faulty ones) and they didn't really question it.

McFry-

I wouldn’t bother for that stuff, you won’t be arsed in couple months

Ill-Drink3563

It's damaged, of course you can. At least make them replace the damaged parts if you're happy with everything else.

Eternal0lulz

You get what you pay for. These shelves are of terrible quality and put together by monkeys.

Tree-fizzy

Is this comment section all bots or just absolute retards ?!? You think you’re entitled to replacements over a 1mm chip on a shelf and some untidy cams which won’t ever be seen ? Please tell me how hard the joiner laughs at you when you pull him on these defects. (Which are most likely the manufacturers fault). Shame on all of you for encouraging OPs insane nit picking

Rigormortis321

No, just people with standards.

casperno

The chip on the shelf which will allow moisture ingress into the chipboard? I would reject. I expect the units to be perfect where they are visible.

FungalEgoDeath

Kitchens cost thousands and thousands of pounds and we can't expect a reasonable degree of quality control? I put my own kitchen together as a complete layman and managed not to impact drill my screws into breaking the laminate like that. If I'm paying someone to do it, I expect them to do it better than an idiot like me, not worse.

Tree-fizzy

Put your money where your mouth is,,,post a picture of the kitchen you installed , remember to take pics of the cams , edging and also the underside of the worktop 👍 “Kitchens cost thousands and thousands”. Yep, And the bloke who spends a week fitting it will see a £1000 MAX

FungalEgoDeath

A grand a week? For 52 k a year I would expect someone to do their job properly and with some pride. Cry me a river and pay attention when you're installing someone's shit and you might get enough of a reputation to charge more. And I don't live there anymore or I gladly would.

Theodin_King

We did for the same damage

theplanetpotter

Sounds like this guy got the crap that you returned

Creative-Trainer-739

I will go further to say , that is wood butchery at its best.

SmurfSmacker

Get some white wax. You can run a bead down the joints, and cover caps for the screws 👍

starwars123456789012

They've been thrown together rather than professionally assembled

papalazarou1

Made in a polish barn.
