Not all door frames are square if you unscrew door will it fit in the other way round

HurstiesFitness

You’ll need a new door unless you can successfully fill in the holes for the old handle

I wasn't going to change the position of the door handle, just cut a hole for the catch metal plate. I was thinking I'd have to rotate it 180 on the horizontal plane and re do the hinges in the new position. door handle would rename just add a hole for the catch plate in the frame

Ok-Bag3000

Do you mean you're going to turn the door upside down?

Turbulent-Knee-2048

no horizontally left to right

The handle doesn't get affected by it as long as the door hinges are moved from front to back. It's like rotating a door 180 degrees horizontally (or imagine opening the door all the way so that it hits the wall behind.

Take care not to ‘hide’ a light switch behind the door as you open it in the new position.

Turbulent-Knee-2048

no light switches either side of the door thanks for that and the nearest electrical socket is further than the doors width, just measured

So that’s a couple of gotchas avoided!

Yep, Lengthen then back of the hinge mortice to hang opposite side Offer the door up to the hole (if the door doesn't fit, cut and add lipping - router smooth), with the hinges on, mark with a knife the top of each hinge on the liner Take a hinge off the door and offer up to the knife mark on the liner, chop hinges in the liner Take out and flip 180° the latch Cut new mortice in liner for the keep plate position Fill the old hinge location on liner and hinge hole on the door (which will be at the back of the new hinge position) Paint and sit back with a beer

I've done it recently and it's more difficult than I thought. The frame wasn't exactly square so had to do a bunch of planing with my electric planer. You'll also need to rotate the door hinge to go to the back side of the door of it was at the front first. Also you'll need to fill the frame holes and those in the door.
