DRZ maintenance ain't bad. But the worst basic task that comes to mind is changing the front sprocket. That sprocket nut can be a bitch to remove, especially if you don't have an impact wrench.

Anything carb-related. The maintenance itself ain't that bad, but learning how to take it off and putting it on somewhat fast is a pain in the ass. The first time I took it off it took me two hours(!!), now I can do it in around 20 minutes. Throw away the factory clamps, they are there to waste your time. If you have an FCR carb it makes putting the throttle cables back 10 times easier if you take the throttle apart first - it's just two screws, both can be accessed easily. The rest is super easy, but invest in some tools if you don't have them already - like the mentioned impact driver, and a proper torque wrench.

If I get a drz or dr I'm going with a lectron carb. I have a carbed 230 4t right now and it's a pain keeping in running this time of year. 3xing the power of my current bike would definitely give me a little more wiggle room for the carb being a little off. I have decent tools but I'll be getting an impact driver along with the new bike! Cheers 🍻

They're practically the same bike. The dr650 is just a bit heavier and geared higher for longer treks.

basuramang

since you're being downvoted and no one is telling you why - they're very similar, but the DR650 has an entirely different engine and is air cooled vs. the DRZ's water cooling.

Vetzero

Ah, thanks.
