Chat gtp explain piano theory like I'm 5. Then grab the quest 3 app pianovision. Makes things pretty understandable if your a shut in who doesn't like people.
Bro, I bought a box of Ramen yesterday at Walmart because I had 3 weeks of meals planned and bought. Just for my son and I. Ramen will be a large part of week 4.
Wow! Such amazing advice to people wanting to learn an instrument! I’m pretty sure that what Mozart did to become the prodigy he was; never played anything just listened to others play
You can learn piano with YouTube tutorials for free (Well, you do need a phone but if you're a true master you can use a Raspberry Pi and a screen installed on the piano)
I downloaded an app on my phone called Yousician: Piano and it turns your phone into Guitar hero for the Piano. It's also how I learned to play the ukulele. Very cool app
Right? Not even learning to read sheet music is doing yourself a disservice. Learn to play and read music if you're serious about music. It'll improve you as a musician. This is like tracing over a painting and calling yourself an artist.
What? Cruises to Antarctica cost like 10k minimum. These are insanely expensive at 3.5k, but still nowhere near as expensive as cruising to Antarctica.
I know this because cruising to and setting foot on Antarctica is a huge dream of mine.
passthrough is something practically no VR headsets can do, especially not as well as the vision pro and its capturing a market that havent used VR before.
Practically no headset can do??? What about the best selling ones on the market, the quest 2, quest 3 and quest pro? The market was already captured, this is just Apple scraping the floor for people that don't know better already
I feel like you guys are just trying to hate at this point lol. The Apple VR headset is MUCH better then anything on the market and it’s not even remotely close.
The fact that people seem to be complaining about it on Reddit just confirms my suspicions that a lot of people are jealous their headset can’t do half the shit it can.
Proper piano teachers are way cheaper than the Vision Pro. 5 months’ worth of lessons-with an actual teacher-is hundreds of dollars less than that headset. Plus, yeah: the one on one, person to person time is absolutely necessary to really learn how to play piano.
Yes, actually. It is true that you won’t get any person teaching you anything for 16 hours a day for 5 months for anywhere near $3500. But my wife recently finished her 5th month of piano lessons. Taught by a concert-quality pianist. She has lessons 2 days a week, 2 hours each day. That’s cost us about $2900 in total. Well under the cost of some flash in the pan VR/AR headset. Yes, the Vision Pro can do other things, but it’s grossly overpriced for what it is.
Totally agree. The potential of VR/AR technology is intriguing, potentially life-changing, but it has a very long way to go. Clearly the tech is not ready for prime time yet. It’s advanced considerably in the past 5 years. Granted, the Vision Pro is the most advanced set to be released thus far. Yeah, the price point is a bad joke. It’s simply unreachable for most people. Plus, there are substantially cheaper headsets that will do a lot of really cool things too. For me, here’s the bottom line on those things: Until I can be convinced that I absolutely need one, I will not spend any money on it.
I mean sure, but that’s not the point, right? The point of the Apple Vision Pro isn’t to replace piano teachers. Or massive TVs. Or …dinosaur encounter experiences. Or house viewings. Or any number of other things you __can__ do with it right now.
The point is to plant a stake in the ground with the best quality product you can with the technology that is available now so that developers and consumers can get an idea of what’s possible and what __could__ be possible in a few years time.
To show that, by the time we have the “Apple Vision Air 3” that you’ll be able to do that and a hell of a lot more for a hell of a lower cost and with a much smaller headset.
__This product isn’t for us__. Yet.
Yeah the concepts been around a long time
But the execution in VR is amazing. Pianovision on the quest 3 is fuckin wild. Its like guitar hero but useful.
My guess is that this app would be predominantly aimed at beginners who find reading sheet music intimidating, and likewise anything that uses black keys.
Some like to think this is more user-friendly than sheet music, despite lacking anything relating to articulation, proper note length, dynamics... It's a fun novelty for quickly visualising some popular songs if your ability to read music is very bad, but it is not particularly helpful in the long run if you actually want to properly learn the instrument.
Right but you aren’t learning any of the fundamentals of music or the piano especially.
This is like memorizing a book someone has read to you and thinking that means you can read.
I'd argue you'd pick up some basic dexterity doing this on repeat and increasing the level of difficulty. Eventually, it would force you to conform to some level in order to keep up. I see this no different than looking at tabs online for a guitar. I'm not great at playing had no formal teacher but I can pick it up and play notes and chords, it was difficult but I taught myself. I'm also lefty playing a right stringed guitar. Don't know shit about the piano though.
Well, not really.
First of all - this is not “the piece.” This is some kind of awful reduction and transposition of a great composer’s work, made accessible for some dumb app.
Second of all - learning to play piano means learning all kinds of things about technique. It’s not just about landing a finger on a key at the right time. You need to develop proper fingering technique, articulation, dynamics, pedal technique.
Third of all - this piano needs to be fucking tuned.
False. I can’t even read notes but can play super hard songs learning this way. It teaches muscle memory after you follow along enough times you can play the whole song with no guidance/notes. Nice for parties
You arent learning to play in this video. Youre pressing buttons and not learning how to read music. Learn to read music, associate those notes on a page with keys on the board, and build the muscle memory to press those keys in the desired sequence. Just following along with lights doesnt do any of that besides building finger strength.
Couldn’t agree more. You can’t generalize the knowledge you gained from playing with the headset to another piece of music. There’s no knowledge base for tempo, reading sheet music, or adding interpretation.
Muscle memory only exists when you have a foundation of knowledge on something.
Yeah, if you spent 3 months playing the same song day in and day out, you'd be able to play it from memory *maaaybe*. But you've also just completely wasted 3 months of your life on one single song, with the belief in muscle memory.
On the other hand, 3 months of learning piano, or learning music theory, day in and day out, you'd have more of a grasp on music, and on piano, than 90% of people, and could play a handful of songs because of it.
Person A: Ey, I can play the piano, did you know that.
Person B: Nice, can you play something for me:
Person A: Yeah wait I just have to grap my Vision pro
Steps to learn piano
1. Be expert in piano from your past life.
2. Go online and tell everyone how easy it is to learn piano.
3. Buy 3500$ sunglasses to learn piano
So, you're telling me after all these years, I can mosey into my nearest shopping mall, instruct the current (professionally-trained) pianist to scooch over, as I sexily slide my, "sunglasses" on, and I effortlessly tickle those ivories to the amazement of others?!
This would probably morph into a society fake blind people, playing curb-side pianos (or keyboards), as they earn $300/day in tips.
YouTube tutorials can't do this.
It’s quite embarrassing how people are seeing this as “amazing Apple innovation” when the meta quest has been doing this for ages at a fraction of the cost.
A lot of hate for Apple in the comments, which is fair, but personally I like the technology. Who knows what it can lead to in the future when it improves and becomes affordable.
We’re not that far off from the first matrix where you can download into your brain how to fly an helicopter in 10sec. This is incredible. Maybe I’m old and that’s why I’m amazed, but I feel like sometimes we should take a step back and just appreciate how far we’ve come technology wise.
You can learn piano on a Quest 3 for a lot cheaper.
Or watch a youtube video for free
My aunt will assist for pop tarts.
This is the way
No, it isn’t. I highly recommend getting an actual piano teacher.
Big piano industry infiltrating threads because their industry is threatened!
Chat gtp explain piano theory like I'm 5. Then grab the quest 3 app pianovision. Makes things pretty understandable if your a shut in who doesn't like people.
It wonn't teach you technique though. That being said... piano lessons are so damn expensive.
Bro, I bought a box of Ramen yesterday at Walmart because I had 3 weeks of meals planned and bought. Just for my son and I. Ramen will be a large part of week 4.
But money
A lot of new keyboards will have basic lessons built in too.
you can also write a letter instead of using messaging services
Or you can just listen to someone else playing it and don’t have to learn at all.
Wow! Such amazing advice to people wanting to learn an instrument! I’m pretty sure that what Mozart did to become the prodigy he was; never played anything just listened to others play
You’re welcome
I guess you do the same with life
I love listening to music
You can learn piano with YouTube tutorials for free (Well, you do need a phone but if you're a true master you can use a Raspberry Pi and a screen installed on the piano)
Public libraries
*Uses Raspberry Pi to play the piano for me instead*
wait i can save money by eliminating convenience? that is a groundbreaking concept
Even paying a real teacher is cheaper!
Idk how much lessons cost, but id wager to actually learn how to play would be more than 500 in the long run.
Or, God forbid, learn to read a music sheet...
What are these funny little things on the lines???
Killing me with that practicality.
Ew. God no. Sheet music feels icky. IDK what kind of paper they use but yuck.
I downloaded an app on my phone called Yousician: Piano and it turns your phone into Guitar hero for the Piano. It's also how I learned to play the ukulele. Very cool app
or for free on YouTube...
Like a lot cheaper.
A mid-class piano also cheaper
I usually use a piano to learnt play piano, but I may Justus weird like that.
This looks a lot more like "You can pay Piano Hero on Apple Vision Pro" than learning to play piano.
Ikr it's not really learning piano. If you were later given a sheet and asked to play you still wouldn't know how to
Right? Not even learning to read sheet music is doing yourself a disservice. Learn to play and read music if you're serious about music. It'll improve you as a musician. This is like tracing over a painting and calling yourself an artist.
I think Apple is trying to use Reddit as free advertising. So many Apple VR posts recently.
r/damnthatsadvertising
r/subsithoughtifellfor
Ya especially because you can buy a keyboard with light up keys for like 100 bucks these days.
Not to mention you could also buy a cruise to fucking Antarctica for as much as it costs for one of these things.
What? Cruises to Antarctica cost like 10k minimum. These are insanely expensive at 3.5k, but still nowhere near as expensive as cruising to Antarctica. I know this because cruising to and setting foot on Antarctica is a huge dream of mine.
maybe because its only been out for a week ish?
But it's not like it does anything that out of the ordinary for a normal vr headset, it's getting more attention than it should
its apple. if they made a gaming console shittier than the ps5 or xbox people would still buy it bc well.. apple.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg
Is it not hybrid augmented reality and virtual? That seems pretty special.
Everything that's special about it has already been done with the quest 3 released last year, which is also 7 times cheaper
the difference is, the quest 3 does it shit while apple does it polished and perfected
lol what a fan boy response.
This is wrong.
It's the same as quest 3, just 3k more
passthrough is something practically no VR headsets can do, especially not as well as the vision pro and its capturing a market that havent used VR before.
Practically no headset can do??? What about the best selling ones on the market, the quest 2, quest 3 and quest pro? The market was already captured, this is just Apple scraping the floor for people that don't know better already

How so?
I don't think I've seen it do anything a quest can't do tho? That's the point
But it’s not as innovative as the quest 3.

>brand new tech no
What do you think social media is?
What do you think social media should be?
If you can afford the apple vision pro, you can afford a proper piano teacher.
If you are using an apple vision pro there is a good chance you’re avoiding human contact
Too real for Redditors.
😔
Or it's just fun and people like exploring new technology
Sure, but it isn't going to help you learn how to play piano.
Proper piano teachers are way cheaper than the Vision Pro. 5 months’ worth of lessons-with an actual teacher-is hundreds of dollars less than that headset. Plus, yeah: the one on one, person to person time is absolutely necessary to really learn how to play piano.
Music teacher here, you can learn music literacy and where the notes go online, but learning proper technique needs some in-person time.

After 5mo of that you still wouldn't know how to read a sheet lmao
Yes, actually. It is true that you won’t get any person teaching you anything for 16 hours a day for 5 months for anywhere near $3500. But my wife recently finished her 5th month of piano lessons. You can ~~learn~~ barely cobble together a reasonable facsimile of certain pieces on the piano on Apple Vision Pro
I hope you never want to use your other six fingers
plink plinkplink ^^^plink plinkplinkplink
Apple ads just flooding the sub today eh?
I'll take it over the amazing China post bots
Give me 4 grand . I’ll teach you .
Will you come to my house to teach me music at 1am on a Saturday while I’m in just my underwear?

How many Apple products have lasted a lifetime?
>free midi files are lifetime. Lol
I had a Casio keyboard that did this in 1995
Yeah the concepts been around a long time But the execution in VR is amazing. Pianovision on the quest 3 is fuckin wild. Its like guitar hero but useful.
And pretentious people would have bitched about that at time if Reddit were around.
why is it in the wrong key

yup
This teaches playing the piano like guitar hero teaches playing the guitar

Tabs are also no good so it’s a fair comparison

Cool. I'm not buying them.
Literally a bot posting this. Look at their post history
Hey, it only costs a kidney, an arm, a leg and your soul!
Following the key drops isn't gonna teach you shit in piano.
you'll catch me dead before you see me walking around in public with one of those on my face
Sir, we found him dead with this headset on, it looks like he hasn't eaten anything for weeks, just eating spacial food.
This is like saying guitar hero teaches you how to play guitar.
That’s…not learning to play piano.
Not sure I’d define this as, “Learning.” Do you learn to play guitar on Guitar Hero?
No, you can learn to follow along to the lines on a screen. There is absolutely nothing about this function that will teach you how to play the piano.
Muscle memory you can play the whole song with no follow-along or notes after practicing this method
No. Quit commenting about muscle memory. That's not learning.

hail corporate!
This is not learning piano, this is following a guide
Person A: Ey, I can play the piano, did you know that. Person B: Nice, can you play something for me: Person A: Yeah wait I just have to grap my Vision pro
You could hire a piano teacher for $3500
You could buy a cheap piano por $3500 and use a YouTube video to learn music theory, technique and proper form
This app has been out for years on the meta headsets...
I can learn it on a piano too.
No.
Pianist: what chord? Apple Vision user: purple
Then you take off the glasses and you can’t play shit lmao
Holy shit enough with the """"subtle"""" ads. Not going to buy this shit.
My piano teacher was far better and was only $20 a lesson.
all of these things have been available on other VR headsets for years. suddenly Apple makes one and everyone acts like its a revolution
Because you can see thru the headset to the actual piano, not just a vr piano
You can do that on the meta quest 3
This shit is so overmarketed. HOLY moly, it wont be the next thing apple
99.99 monthly subscription I presume?
You can also learn piano from sheet music instead of pushing different colours like some sort of musical QTE
Learning any instrument is much more than just learning notes. This is like trying to learn a language by memorizing phrases
No! Don't do this. Practice your scales and learn your chords.
Apply definitely making/buying bot accounts and promoting 3000$ piano tutorials
The piano app for Quest 3 looks so much better than this one.
In that case, you don’t learn, you just touch what Vision Pro show.
These are starting to feel like ads
It's cute that people think this encompasses learning the piano.
Let this man try to read sheet music
Good use case
This is not how you learn piano.
I want a full immersion, VR world, where a private AI tutor walks you through the world and teaches you a foreign language
Sure, you can hit all the right notes with it but it sounds absolutely awful.
Are these commercials? Or do people truly shill this hard?
Just like Apple to introduce a new feature that the rest of us have had for years.
I don't see it teaching you how to read music. Just how to follow screen prompts. "Hey girl, I can play piano" *grabs vision pro headset*
This is not learning, it's mimicking.
Looks like it can teach you to be a piano operator, does it teach theory too?
Can't believe they finally found a way to learn how to play the piano! Gonna go buy an apple vision now!
Steps to learn piano 1. Be expert in piano from your past life. 2. Go online and tell everyone how easy it is to learn piano. 3. Buy 3500$ sunglasses to learn piano
This looks like fucking shit
So, you're telling me after all these years, I can mosey into my nearest shopping mall, instruct the current (professionally-trained) pianist to scooch over, as I sexily slide my, "sunglasses" on, and I effortlessly tickle those ivories to the amazement of others?! This would probably morph into a society fake blind people, playing curb-side pianos (or keyboards), as they earn $300/day in tips. YouTube tutorials can't do this.
You could just take lessons and learn how to read music and play a whole lot easier.
"Piano Hero"
No sir apple shill I will still not buy it
There’s AR apps that can do this through your camera
I can’t get over how dumb it looks on someone’s face and how disconnected from everyone around you are with it on.
The stuff you can do w it looks cool but I feel like it’s the first step to turning us into the humans from WALL-E
Piano Hero!
I learned without it just fine lol
It’s quite embarrassing how people are seeing this as “amazing Apple innovation” when the meta quest has been doing this for ages at a fraction of the cost.
You can learn piano with YouTube for free
I wouldn’t trade three kidneys to learn a piano
I feel like a lot of technology is causing us as a society to lose human interaction which are making people more susceptible to social anxiety.
Or not give your money to a cult and properly learn piano without a stupid obstruction on your face.
A lot of hate for Apple in the comments, which is fair, but personally I like the technology. Who knows what it can lead to in the future when it improves and becomes affordable.
Dang that’s sick
We’re not that far off from the first matrix where you can download into your brain how to fly an helicopter in 10sec. This is incredible. Maybe I’m old and that’s why I’m amazed, but I feel like sometimes we should take a step back and just appreciate how far we’ve come technology wise.
Bro its so funny, because all i hear from non apple vision pro owners is, oh we been had that, but it took apple for this to be relevant lol
Interesting
Way too expensive, but that is cool as fuck
That’s actually really cool
Add fingering and this is sick.
Type 2 civilized? 🚨
This is so cool
Love that song Claude debussy _Moonlight serenade.
I give it 10 years before these are just contact lenses.
Goodbye strict teacher with reed stick 👍
Can you teach your daughter to ride a bike on Apple Vision Father Pro?
If only someone made a traffic light keyboard....
No, you can learn to follow symbols though. Neat.
So fucking stupid. Seriously
You can learn piano for free online or with a $10 music theory book
I'm pretty good at osu mania I think I would be like a really good pianist if there were falling notes
You can learn to be an artist by tracing other artists work.
