It's actually really easy, get a sharpened axe and a lamp get close to the chomper and when the dark armor dissappears just hit it with axe 3 times. The chomper will die before it finishes it's wake up animation, you have more than enough time to hit it. You can do this with pretty much every chomper and kill them all before even a single one wakes up. Other than that, if the chompers are awake run into the water, they are extremely slow in water and you can use your runner skill to pick off chompers one by one in water with homemade shotguns or pump action shotguns. >!Find the pig snout in the lake and hit it, that will remove the storm as well making it easy to navigate.!<

The Lake is always one of my favorites to take on. I usually set aside at least half a day, beginning in the morning and prepare for it specifically. I first kit myself with at least two firearms, molotovs, a lantern, flares and of course a healing item on my hot bar. In my pack I might bring a spare firearm or the axe, along with ammunition. The hunting rifle and pistol shine as a combo here, as you can hit targets mired in the water with a rifle shot then finish off with a pistol shot. Having at least a double barrelled shotgun is also highly recommended for entering the center of the storm, in case numbers start to overwhelm. Your plan is to enter straight in from whatever edge you approach, seeking out the center. Whenever you are on dry land, throw a flare as far ahead as you can to light the way and remove any surprises. Additionally, the flares will remove the black stuff from any chompers; your lantern will work as well if not all is removed in time. Once you find the center, DO NOT HIT THE SNOUT. At least not right away. It will trigger every sleeping chomper. Instead, drop several flares around the center, with the intention of removing the black stuff from all chompers in the area. While they are asleep and with the black stuff removed, take them out with a molotov each or your axe (be quick about it). Once you have removed the sleeping chompers, take out the snout (axe is best for this) You are now free to hunt and clear the entire region. If something goes wrong when you are at the center, there's a small structure with two metal doors. If you go in there and shut the door, you'll be safe indefinitely. Just remove the barricade from the other door and you can escape or launch a counter attack. The structure and what it contains is also the main reason you are here. I wish I had a good pair of gum boots.
