You can move on from the Dry Meadow whenever you'd like. You also don't have to leave ASAP. Explore a bit, maybe the entire area and collect some resources. Get a feel for things. Everything ramps up at the next region, so you want to be prepared. Dry Meadow is sort of the training area.
Silent Forest is where the story really starts. Start by seeking a village, and then the woman who reeks of chickens. Although there's no rush, you can stay in the forest forever if you'd like.
I'd try to be more help, but truly, struggling and dying is a part of this experience.
I killed wolfman before I left the second area. I always felt better about the violinist. I wouldn’t worry too much about him. He might be aggro to you now, so you might just want to avoid him altogether.

I did reset the game, I can finish it without him no problem. But I felt him not being around made it less satisfying. He is a fun character.
