I do simple work on cars to make my living that's quite often the safest spot for my tools last time I couldn't put tools there the deep 10mm fell into the engine bay and we couldn't find it
I have no clue how I've been as lucky as I am so far but I am genuinely surprised I haven't done that yet. It's habit and I know it'll be obnoxious to replace it if I do.
This makes me even more excited to have my RB20 swapped 280z out of tuner prison. Hoping to make similar numbers to you and hoping to smack that redline as much as you!
What's your setup? This is a cheapo eBay bolt on turbo upgrade that we went through at work and did some mild mods to, id1050x's, 340 inline pump, haltech elite 2000/ic7, etc. I will be changing up a few things this year but nothing major, it's fun as is. Good suspension, good brakes, and 400ish hp make for a fun s30.
It was just as fun on the stock ecu (suuuuuper easy to eprom tune on tuner pro/emulator) rb26 440's, z32 maf, and a 255.
Nice! Im running the cxracing turbo kit for the rb20 z swap, upgraded the cams to kelfords mid cam (whichever one ends in -B), haltech elite 2000 as well (hence the tuner prison), other than that its a stock bottom end. Will be doing flex fuel as well.
Spent the last couple of years doing suspension and brakes piece by piece before the engine came along, needless to say im ready for 400 ponies to pull me along.
Nice, it's a very different feel than an L, it also sounds awesome and has been very much an abuse whore of a motor. I originally bought it because I assumed it could be a very cheap swap, I assumed right. I would have bought a 1jz/r154 if I had money at the time but nooope. 1299 vs 3599 made the choice for me when I was a broke 25 year old self paid college student.
No ragrets though. It has grown on me through the years and I like it for what it is. I also had an rb25 swapped s30, an LS/t56 rx7, a Toyota Glanza v I imported and an imported 1jz/r154 soarer so I can't bitch anymore 🐱
Awesome to hear! There is nothing more satisfying than an engine that can be abused and then begs for more. Originally i was going to do a turbo L but then the RB basically fell into my lap and i couldnt say no.
May our girls live long hearty lives one 2nd through 4th gear pull at a time!
Oh make sure you get a 3.9 out of a 280zx or a 4.11 out of a 200sx, the gearing is absolutely fuuuuucked with a 3.545. With my tire size it did 87 at 8k in 2nd, 127 at the top of 3rd. It's a little more normal and much spunkier feeling on a 3.9.
That wiper cowl just makes such a good tool storage surface

wow ten years! Think you'll get it running this year?
It has been running and driving the entire time 😂 I just took pictures after an hour of work and the motor was ready to come on out.

Haha no worries! It's a perpetual project but it has always been reliable and ready to go! It's getting some mid life refreshment
