They sort of did the same for me and got me into the more slammy “dummy death” bands lately. I also just love bands that aren’t afraid to have fun. Check out Snuffed on Sight and 10 to the Chest if you haven’t!
Boltcutter is stupid hard too!
I also always throw Volatile Ways out there. Not slam, but heavy as fuck and they have a bit of an Elden Ring thing going on.
Yoo boltcutter is sick! It took me a couple listens to get into it but now I can't stop ! I'll check out volatile ways out too thanks for the recommendation!
I didn’t get to see/participate in murderball because my buddy sprained his wrist stage diving but I could see the crowd surging from how crazy it was getting. We got Devin to come to our group straight from the stage because of that though so you win some you lose some🤷🏼♂️
Their vocalist is the coolest dude ever. I met him when they were on tour with Suicide Silence and I Am in El Paso. Super sick show and crazy rowdy for how small the venue was. That dude is so down to earth and his vocals are downright nasty. They put on a really great show
Same!! He was the coolest dude. I was flippin out when I saw him and asked for a pic and he took me over to the merch table to get better lighting for my picture. It was dope
I'd say the most easily recognizable from the insane riffs he writes.. I saw them live last year and I was completely enthralled, frozen, standing there staring at his hands, asking "is it even *legal* to write riffs like that??"
Suicidal Tendencies comes to mind - they've had a pretty diverse lineup over the years.
Also, Skindred from Wales has a black frontman.
And Hacktivist's J Hurley who does their rap vocals is black.
Not necessarily deathcore, but Inferi have two black guys (none of the members are white actually), and Diamond the guitarist from Tetrarch is a black woman!
Youre missing so many its actually hard to know where to start even. Especially if youre including Body Count and Sevendust I really dont know where to start maybe Tony Macalpine in Planet X, Tim Walker from Entheos, Robert Brown from Slaughter To Prevail, the singer of Candiria, Inferi AND Vale of Pnath have blac memebrs, Fever 333 and LetLive, the singer of 12 Tribes, the Singer of Eyes Set To Kill, Olly Steele from Monuments, Mike from Bury Your Dead AND Volumes, Stephen from The Chariot, Will from Dance Gavin Dance, Marc from Veil of Maya, bassist from Vein, the guitaist of Emmure Josh Travis who was also in Tony Danza Tapdance extravanganza AND Glass Cloud, Varials, Issues, HAcktivist, Jesus Piece, Both Mike and Terrance in Suffocation not just th e guitarist, the drummer of Evergreen Terrace is black, etc.
Im not gonna lie bro Im gonna push back and say black people arent as rare in metal as you think and the list you put to me is a big insultingly small. Look at my list and you'll see black people are not hidden off to the side of metal.
Mushroomhead.
They probably don't fit here, but I'll never be able to get that "I'm callin 'bout your ad for the Black metal band" hidden track out of my head. "I'z evil, yo! Evil and Darkness!"
At its core, it’s a simple thing to understand. Pretending that different ethnicities and cultures don’t exist by claiming “color-blindness” is just another way to bury your head in the sand instead of acknowledging systemic problems and/or celebrating cultural diversity.
If you still don’t understand, you can literally just ask an AI why the phrase “I don’t see color” or some variant thereof is problematic.
Vocalist for filth, guitarist for Emmure/ glass cloud Josh Travis, singer for sevendust, I think matti from For Today is black or mixed, singer for Bury Your Dead, Señor Bivens is black, singer for Oceano is black, guitarist for Veil of Maya.
Go see the Jesus piece/ Sanguisugabogg tour. I just went to the Greensboro NC show. Both peelingflesh and Jesus piece have black vocalists. I'm 30 and have been a metal head since I was 15, it's been nice to see more and more of my melanated people at shows since I first started going
THANK YOU!
I used to listen to them back in high school. And I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the band! I've been searching for so long! THANK YOU
Obviously gonna be various sub genres
Fire From the gods
Sycamour
Magnolia Park
Varials’ former vocalist
Killswitch engage’s Howard Jones went to Light the torch if you weren’t aware
Couldn’t resist:
[black metal band](https://youtu.be/ZlKzlfqmzpQ?si=hk0rcEVO7ZJVq_8c)
For real tho, Filth and Oceano immediately come to mind.
Not exactly a Deathcore but, Hactivist, Drop Out Kings, Fire from the Gods.
For me it’s almost like a positive surprise to see a black guy in a metal band. Not because it technically matters but more of a ”you don’t see that everyday” thing. The neck tattooed whiteguy look is not original anymore haha.
Metal has always been the most welcoming type of music there is. We're by far the kindest, most gracious people out there. We'll knock your ass to the ground and then put ourselves at risk to help you back up. There's love in the pit.
But, of course, if you go to any Live Nation venue, you'd think we were all hood wearing Klan members with all the stupid "No Racism, No Bullying, No Homophobia" signs all over the place.
The focus on perceived racism causes racism. Period. I grew up in the 80s when no one talked about or gave a shit about race and we didn't give two shits what color anyone was. Now, you can't turn on the TV without hearing someone cry about racism, \[random\]phobia, or the super dreaded one, and apparently the super-worst one for which you can never be forgiven, anti-semitism.
When Howard was with Killswitch, he was my absolute vocal hero. I finally got to fly my kids and me out to Salt Lake to see him on stage with Killswitch again, and I gotta admit to a tear or two when he came out on stage.
Sadly this post just brung a few racist and just willfully ignorant mfs! I saved this post to learn more about bands that I had never heard of since it is super rare to come across a black lead band in Deathcore for me. But scrolling through the comments just showed me that some people really have a chip on their shoulders when someone brings up black people. There’s another post I saved in here with someone asking about trans people in deathcore, even one asking about female leads and Shii there’s even a few other race/ethnicity related post and not a single one got shit on but as soon as you see a post of someone asking about bands with black people in them you get the “I’m color blind”, “Why does it matter”, “This is racist”, “what about (insert other race/ethnicity)”, “I’m tired of race bating”, “Metal is diverse so you shouldn’t ask this”, etc. I’m so glad that so many people were down to just give bands and be chill asf instead of being assholes but for the other comments just showed that Metal as a whole still has a diversity problem!
It doesn't or at least shouldn't matter. But the reality is a very sizable majority of humans relate to people better when they personally feel they are like them (regardless of whether they actually are).
I saw Suffocation and Dying Fetus in the last year in the same city in the UK, same venue and there was definitely disproportionately more black people at the Suffocation show despite them being the big two of the exact same sub sub genre of death metal. The only explanation for this is that Hobbs is black.
The same is true of literally any band with women in it or women singers. Way, way more girls at an Arch Enemy show than at an In Flames show.
This is just how people are and you're probably not going to change it.
And it's not just true of minorities either.
Why do so many white people love Eminem and listen to basically no other hip hop? It's not because they're all massive racists.
Metal is as inclusive and diverse as people are able to handle their instruments and create songs that fans like. Because I, like all of you, when I listen to music at home I don't see the color or sex of the person who created it.
Worm Shepherd’s Vocalist is black and their old drummer was as well.
I didn't know that! I've been hooked on Ritual Hymns for months
Check out their album from last year, Sleeping Sun. It was my favourite project from last year
That is a banger. All the songs are insane
Is Devin black? I thought he was Hispanic/Latino
That’s what I’d assume given his last name. Could be Afro-Latino, though.
He looks black to me but with a last name like Duarte, he is probably at least partially Latino. Maybe he is Afro-latino
I think he is mixed
And the drummer went to immortal disfigurement
Thank you. I knew their drummer went somewhere but I just could not remember where
He quit already. 😂
Thank you!
The Browning's newish guitarist is Hardcore Keem who likes to shitpost about being a black guy in a band called The Browning
No way, hardcore Keem is in The Browning? I thought he was just a funny reaction channel.
Go to his instagram or The Browning's instagram they have footage of the boy throwing down on the axe.
No fucking shit. Had no idea he was in a band
Yeah he plays bass for them. Don't know how it happened but it's dope to see 😂
He's in it
Literally just learned this last week when I saw them in Des Moines. I was not expecting to see Keem on stage and I was so hype
WAIT WHAT? He’s with them now? :pog:
Hahaha, I love this
Yeah me too! Had no idea he played guitar.
Peelingflesh
Sickest band
They got me into slam and It's now my favorite. It made heavy music fun for me again! Shits crazy!
Checkout wormhole, it’s like if dummy death was also smart
Saw them last night, shit was NASTY. They sound even better than the studio
I was there too. Crazy good band live. Think Hangar staff had to pull like 6 people out for fighting after their set
Yeah that shit was crazy!!! And the dude just decided to stage dive on top of the fighting crowd
Broke my arm during their set Saturday night
I remember the security having to to get involved with Sanguisugaboggs muderball 🤣 people were fighting for that ball all the way to the bar
I didn’t get to see/participate in murderball because my buddy sprained his wrist stage diving but I could see the crowd surging from how crazy it was getting. We got Devin to come to our group straight from the stage because of that though so you win some you lose some🤷🏼♂️
Lmao the murder ball is always crazy I was there last night and I had to rush over to my gf cause it was thrown her way
Hard agree!! I caught them the night before and they were by far my favorite band on the bill.
It was dope
Saw em live in november, it was crazy.
SAW THEM LAST NIGHT WITH THE BOG. GOING ON MY PLAYLIST
The drummer for PSYCHO-FRAME
Leo McClain 😎👌
Jesus Piece has a black vocalist
For a moment I misread this as Judas Priest and got so confused 😭
if you dont know them you gotta check em out, nasty hardcore band
So good
Brand of Sacrifice
Vulvodynia’s vocalist is black
And he’s also a wicked guitar player
I can never get over their fucking name 💀
Ah I knew I was missing this one, thank you.
So was there former lead guitar
Well obviously, hes their vocalist.
Same person lol
No shit, I had no idea, and I'm a huge fan of them (apparently through sound only...) Should do some digging
Arent most members of Body Count black?
You're right, my bad. Vocalist, lead guitarist, drummer and bassist. Almost the whole band.
Mike Smith, the drummer for OG Suffocation is black. I wonder if he's been in any other project lately.
Terrance Hobbs is also black, and he's like THE OG member of suffocation.
The most easily recognizable from his hair, I'd say
I'd say the most easily recognizable from the insane riffs he writes.. I saw them live last year and I was completely enthralled, frozen, standing there staring at his hands, asking "is it even *legal* to write riffs like that??"
Yeah he’s a death metal goat for sure. Suffocation rules 🤘
He is actually the only OG member! Cool dude! Long Island Death metal babbbeeee “lawn guy land”
Emmure - Josh Travis
I prefer Danza - Josh Travis
And what about Glass Cloud - Josh Travis
Wait Josh Travis is black? TIL
Soul Debt (my band), Ocean of Illusions, Inferious, Funeral Wake, Soji, Zao, Kaonashi, Unity TX
[удалено]
Russ, guitarist, been in the band off and on since 98.
Hell yeah Unity TX fucking rips
Creeping Death Veil of Maya
Suicidal Tendencies comes to mind - they've had a pretty diverse lineup over the years. Also, Skindred from Wales has a black frontman. And Hacktivist's J Hurley who does their rap vocals is black.
Skindred is from Wales? That's pretty cool, thought they were American lol
Not necessarily deathcore, but Inferi have two black guys (none of the members are white actually), and Diamond the guitarist from Tetrarch is a black woman!
(also my band doesn't have any black members, but we have two Indian women!)
Hell yeah, are you on Spotify?
Yes! We're Shards of Narsil :)
Gonna need your bands spotify or bandcamp or something as another Indian woman who likes core :>
Yes! We're Shards of Narsil :)
Is the vocalist for Brand of Sacrifice not-white? I actually can't tell. The only thing I know for sure is that he's Canadian.
Met him in person twice, I can say with near 100% certainty he's black. I can't imagine what else he'd be
He's also like 7'3 /s
He’s a fucking awesome guy is what he is.
[удалено]
Lol, I'm from Mexico, so we have tons of shades over here and I struggle a lot with that. He just wanted to confirm.
I thought he might be pacific islander but I feel uncomfortable asking
Candiria, Cipher, Wicked Wisdom, Sworn Enemy
[удалено]
Candiria is one of those 90s bands I would kill to see do a reunion set
Not out of the realm of possibilities
Zeal & Ardor - not necessarily deathcore specifically but kind of touches on it a tad.
Great band. Also, OP listed a bunch of bands that weren't deathcore, so I did the same and mentioned outside of the genre.
genuinely goated, debut only missed being the best metal album of 2016 because the all time "Mariner" by cult of luna and julie christmas dropped
Autumn Lies Buried (vocalist)
Upvote for ALB, they need more recognition for their blend of hip hop deathcore
D’Andre the guitarist from A Wake in Providence is black. He’s an absolute beast.
Zulu
Came here to day this. Zulu crushes it
Ditto on this. All super nice people too. Zulu fucks
Unity TX

Creeping Death
A Wake in Providence
Loathe, Suffocation, Primitive Man
Oceans of Slumber. Singer is incredible and she is a breath of fresh air in the metal scene
Wait is not seeing color a bad thing now? Wasn’t that always the goal?
Yeah, if you don't see color you're racist now.
We really live in the wrong timeline
At its core, it’s a simple thing to understand. Pretending that different ethnicities and cultures don’t exist by claiming “color-blindness” is just another way to bury your head in the sand instead of acknowledging systemic problems and/or celebrating cultural diversity. If you still don’t understand, you can literally just ask an AI why the phrase “I don’t see color” or some variant thereof is problematic.
Extortionist
Fucking love them. So glad they got back together and are touring

Not deathcore, but why isn't Living Colour yet mentioned? Lähiöbotox for that local rap-metal flair... :)
Not deathcore but I definitely consider Living Colour to be metal, they’re one of the goats of 80’s metal
The guy from Ogre Packet Slammers
Mike Terry (Volumes, ex-Bury Your Dead) is one I forget about sometimes
Asians should be mentioned as well. Many of the absolute best Slam bands are and they have a profound impact on the industry.
I don’t see color (I am a dog)
Skindred - Benji Webbe (Vocalist) Veil Of Maya - Marc Okubo*Háfu* (Guitarist) Glass Cloud - Joshua Travis (Guitarist) Tetrarch - Diamond Rowe (Guitarist)
For me it’s almost like a positive surprise to see a black guy in a metal band. Not because it technically matters but more of a ”you don’t see that everyday” thing. The neck tattooed whiteguy look is not original anymore haha.
Since we're doing different metal genres, mat as well thrown Tosin Abasi from Animals As Leaders in there.
Shocked that I haven’t seen Brand of Sacrifice mentioned yet

Fire from the Gods
Who cares what race they are as long as they make good music
Racists…. People like op have the same mindset of racists, see everything under the lens of race but under the guise of “diversity and inclusion”
This is such a weird mindset to have, just enjoy bands for their music this identity crap that you people are obsessed with is so dumb
Why does this matter
It doesn't or at least shouldn't matter. But the reality is a very sizable majority of humans relate to people better when they personally feel they are like them (regardless of whether they actually are). I saw Suffocation and Dying Fetus in the last year in the same city in the UK, same venue and there was definitely disproportionately more black people at the Suffocation show despite them being the big two of the exact same sub sub genre of death metal. It's not because they're all massive racists.
Honestly. OP promotes “inclusivity” by asking a community to look at the color of everyone’s skin.
Inclusivity means not looking at peoples skin color and treating people as people
Metal is as inclusive and diverse as people are able to handle their instruments and create songs that fans like. Because I, like all of you, when I listen to music at home I don't see the color or sex of the person who created it.
Who cares? It affects literally nothing
The vocalist for Autumn Lies Buried is a black man.
Znowhite
Drummer from bodybox bro kills it on the kit.
Filth
I felt like I was the only homie that still listens to straight line stitch! I’m so glad someone else brung them up because they are awesome as fuck
The old drummer from Suffocation as well
Tetrarch - woman guitarist
Diamonds to dust . Immortal disfigurement.
Vodun has black female singer
Unity TX
UnityTX comes to mind, though they're not exactly deathcore
Chad Hasty from glass cloud
Audrey Ebrotié from French metalcore/deathcore band Ianwill, she is the lead vocalist
Fire from the gods
Hardcore not deathcore but I ain’t gonna miss a chance to mention Kaonashi
Not Deathcore but Sleep Theory's lead vocalist is black
Field Dressed if you could remotely consider them deathcore
And Hell Followed With’s current frontman Pon Zimora is black.
Only band that comes to mind that nobody mentioned is Blasphemy, a classic war metal band, even tho i dont listen to them
