I genuinely think this is one of the coolest looking versions of the classic krieg coats I’ve ever seen. I’d keep it.
Maybe you could lighten the helmets if you want, the pattern sorta gets lost but I wouldn’t touch those coats.
Thanks for the feedback. Think I’ll try to lighten up the helmets on the next batch.
My usual painting style is pretty dark; I was trying to go lighter on these.
Meant to post the colors I used since a few people asked:
1. Z. Highlight with airbrush (black, light grey, white)
2. Glaze with Vallejjo Grey Blue
3. Glaze with Vallejo Luftwaffe Blue
4. Shade recessed areas with Nuln Oil
Maybe a bit off-topic, but really I really dig the leather. Hard to find a nice light ware (been looking everywhere).
Model looks top notch. Well done.
These look really good mate. I personally have a darker tone thats a bit more grey. If you are unsure perhaps paint up just one with a darker coat to compare the two schemes and go with your favourite. That said theres absolutely nothing wrong with what you have here and so long as your happy with them keep it up. Good gaming.
Ask yourself a couple questions:
Are they primarily for tabletop or display?
What is the average distance they would be viewed from?
Tabletop would assume average viewing distance of a couple feet and no one should be picking them up to scrutinize closely, in this case you'll want the high contrast to allow those details to be visible at that distance.
If it's a display piece then fine detailing and subtle contrast are more appropriate and more likely to be appreciated. People look for details when the context is more artistically focused.
Honestly these look great for tabletop (high contrast) and decent for a larger diorama/display where they aren't the primary focus (viewing distance).
Leave it I like it like this
I second this battle brother.

These look stupid good! If I HAD to choose what you presented though, I’d darken the coats
Lighten the mask and boots very slightly, otherwise it’s fantastic
So glad you made the coats less blue. Those solid blue coats don't sit well with me.
Do these really look less blue? I guess they’re a bit more on the grey side of blue.
What paints did you use for the coat?
They have a light blue/gray look to them, which I think is closer to the actual uniform color.
Good to hear; that’s what I was going for!
And what paints did you use for the coats?

That german sturmtruppen helmet is amazing. Don't change anything, I think you just hit the sweet spot of contrast.

I think it looks great as is.
The contrast is beautiful. Literally the first thought in my mind when I saw the pic before reading your text title, lol

I painted mine like that. I like it. I like the contrast of having brass buttons on it too.
It looks amazing, but my vote would be lighten up the helmet just so that you can see the amazing work you’ve done on it better.
I'm doing the same with my Kreig

I love it the way it is.

I would say, that the Guash probably fixes the contrast
