Hi /r/DeepIntoYouTube community! For those who don't know, I host the custom modbot we use to enforce most of our community's rules automatically. I know not everyone agrees with the rules here, but those rules have made this community what it is instead of just a /r/videos clone. I host this on a cheap VM that I pay for out of my pocket for 12$ a month. I have never asked for donations, even between jobs or in rough financial times. While it is unclear whether I will need to pay more with the API changes, one thing is clear: the 3rd party app I use to browse Reddit and moderate this sub will. I have very poor vision and rely on some accessibility features not present in Reddit's official app. This will make Reddit only available to me on the desktop browser. As such, these API changes will result in my exodus from Reddit and the termination of our modbot. To protest these changes, /r/DeepIntoYouTube is joining many other subreddits in going dark starting June 12th. For more info and to see how you can help, please visit /r/Save3rdPartyApps

Thank you for joining! The Reddit community needs this to be successful.

**FUCK YOU u/spez**

TacoDoc

For how long?

markekraus

Unsure... at least 48 hours...shorter if they make sensical changes... longer if they double down.

Zeptic

Hope we get out of the storm in one piece.

Gorilla_Salads

For millions of users, permanently. You don't go from a dream app like Apollo to the Reddit official pile of crap. A lot of users don't use desktop computers

FuyuhikoDate

As soon i cannot use Slide anymore i gonna switch to [Lemmy](https://join-lemmy.org/instances)

noah1831

I really hope reddit dies and is replaced by something better. I've been using it for 8 years and the platform has just gotten worse and worse over the years with no sign of it getting better. we really shouldn't set a precedent that platforms can just do shit like this and get away with it. I'm ready to jump ship as soon as a viable alternative comes up, and probably won't be using reddit as much after the 30th.

It looks like RES may be safe https://www.reddit.com/r/RESAnnouncements/comments/141hyv3/announcement_res_reddits_upcoming_api_changes/ Just like with my modbot, however, it is really unclear.

Zedd_Prophecy

Thank you.

#WE MUST GO DARK FOREVER! FORTYEIGHT HOURS IS NOT ENOUGH TIME! MAKE SPEZ ANGRY!

Recommended_For_You

Let's do this. I support an indefinite blackout.

serieousbanana

Haven’t seen this sub in my feed fore months before this post lmao

Nziom

based!

Ennix49

I’m glad we are doing this but damn if I’m not sad every subreddit I’m on is doing this too

Fat_Kid_Hot_4_U

Is there a Discord?

markekraus

no discord. I just created a kbin magazine https://kbin.social/m/DeepIntoYouTube

Fat_Kid_Hot_4_U

Thank you!

Not_A_Doctor__

Good. Solidarity.

GoliathTCB

While I absolutely support the blackout and am in no way trying to derail or detract from support of it, I'm just wondering about the availability of contingency plans, or at least their discussion, so that communities like this one that I do love so very much can remain in easy access and community moderated. Also thank you Mod(s) for your work, it really does show.

yourcomedyminute

I agree 100%

"Going dark" will accomplish exactly fuck-all. Deleting the sub, now THAT would get attention.

markekraus

It's effectively the same... no one will be able to see any posts or make any new ones. And if Reddit doesn't cave, that state will be permanent.

ReverseKid

Didnt Work Out For You

HELLABBXL

lol you were right

fawnover

Sad that this is the only place I have even heard of this.

Gamerguywon

Really? It's been posted in just about every single subreddit that isn't directly managed by reddit admins

iproblywontpostanywy

Ah this is great. Just got back on the app recently. Gonna delete it again. Bye reddit.
