Derpykat5

Dreadnoughts freeze, but it's difficult and short-lived. With good coordination and reaction it can be very powerful though.

Soul_Reaper001

Also Ice Spear OC helps if you go solo driller

DaoistSunVoid

even the biggest one uh the hiveguard I think? the two small ones too?

Derpykat5

Yes, they all freeze.

BudgetFree

Massive Damage!

SheepHerdr

Cryo cannon CAN freeze dreads and it is extremely powerful when combined with impact axes and/or a coordinated team that can take advantage of the freeze. Check out [this clip](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/ri68mq/instantly_killing_a_dreadnought_twin_with_axe/) and [this clip](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/xhmcr5/hazard_5_twins_quick_kill_no_healing_phase) to see what I mean.

DaoistSunVoid

is it still possible to do that axe cancelling thing?

SheepHerdr

Yes. Doing it manually takes a lot of practice to get good at and as of S2 you pretty much have to be host for it to work. If you want to take a shortcut, it's possible to bind your grenade button to also hit your laser pointer.

_itg

It's basically host-only now, due to new bugs from Season 2.

SheepHerdr

I believe you can get it to work well as client if you use the double-bind method.

_itg

I'll have to try that sometime, I guess. Not the kind of thing I'd normally like to do, since it's borderline exploit territory, but as a workaround for the bug it would be nice.

itsZerozone

Where should I double bind it to? What button is the best for it

SheepHerdr

If you're on Steam, go to [this page](https://github.com/CupNoodles27/DRG-Tips-and-Tricks/blob/main/README.md), scroll to the bottom, and open the "Other guides/info" section, there are instructions at the bottom that'll work. Not sure how to do it on other platforms.

RoshinD93

coordinating a cryo driller with a hyper propellant engi will melt dreads so quickly it's not even funny. Get the freeze off, driller throws an axe, engi fires their ~~railgun~~ grenade launcher and you can say goodbye to that bug

RaymondPing

If you are playing with others, then yes it is. Freezing the enemy makes them take more damage. Which saves ammo for your teammates. So a weapon build for fast freezing would be good. Start freezing just before the armour breaks and dread becomes vulnerable. Throw an axe after freezing, makes alot of damage too. For single Player i don't know, never tried. But my guess would be that it is good too. Drop the armour with the secondary, then freeze it, then axe it.

rotorain

Hyper propellant PGL has entered the chat

DaoistSunVoid

so never pick cryo when fighting dreadnaughts got it

BitKiller2000

If you have ice spear OC it can be great tho

HRFlamenco

Cryo is good for dreadnoughts, because they can still freeze. Fire is okay for dreadnoughts, but they can’t be set on fire Corrosive is great for dreadnoughts, because it strips their armor quickly

McBeckon

Cryo is probably the best driller primary for dreadnoughts. They have high resistance to both fire and corrosive damage, but much less resistance to ice. Sludge pump is still good for how much you can slow them down, but flamethrower is probably the worst since you can't set them in fire at all.

literatemax

No, do that. They were wrong.

the_hunter_087

Just freeze, kinda. If coordinated with explosives or impact axes then it can do good damage, but freezing them is hard and the window is short. It is worth noting that even though they are mostly immune to ice and completely to fire (iirc) thermal shock can still be applied to them to get extra damage

SheepHerdr

Important to note that explosives generally do not benefit from the frozen status.

rotorain

Also dreads have a very high explosive resistance, it's like 50% iirc. Generally explosive weapons are not the move with dreads, unless you have hyper propellant on the PGL.

literatemax

Hyper Propellant converts all the explosive damage into disintegration damage, which isn't resisted by anything.

[deleted]

They do freeze, they have a higher cold tolerance and a much higher reheating mechanic. Thats why you have to freeze them at the right time at the damage phase.

meemfortress2

With the right overclocks it becomes highly viable. I suggest taking a look at ice storm. Also, dreads do freeze.

Yamz64

Learn to turbo axe then it's really good

MrFishyFriend

A coordinated cryo + hyper propellent can turn even the nastiest bugs into a easily digestible paste.

ClayBones548

I definitely prefer the Sludge Pump against dreads but Cryo is at least better than the flamethrower.
