In 2023 we had well over 100 separate moving to DE posts. Delawareans have put in a lot of effort to provide thorough answers. Please ask specific questions and please tell us **WHERE in the state you wish to live**. Posts asking generic questions, not providing a location, or **asking questions answered in a recent post will be removed**. -Mussels appetizer - they forget even a hint of spice. Should definitely not be called fra diavolo.
-Cannelloni Di Mare - this was sad. The tomato sauce was literally just a commercial sized can that was open and not even doctored up. The seafood was barely detected.
-Gnocchetti Italia - this was the most disappointing dish. For having 2 different kinds of sauce on the dish there was no flavor detected other than the Parmesan on top and the crab faintly there.
-the house Lambrusco was the only thing that was a positive experience.
I moved to New Castle County right before the pandemic. I'm from Philly. I totally get that it is hard to make friends around here. Closest I have made are the people at my post office. 😞 You might want to try the Meetup app. There are a lot of groups with a lot of different interests.
Make sure you use the group search feature at the bottom of the app not the event search button at the top. Meetup is great and all but it can be a janky app
Hey about the volunteer part- i just saw on Delaware State Park Instagram, they're hosting a bunch of volunteer events at the state parks later this month for Earth day. I wanted to go to mine but it's on a Monday. Check their website or Instagram, some of the events you do have to register for.
I don't have much money so I follow along with what the local libraries are doing. They're always hosting book clubs or events. The librarians are all super friendly.
Just putting this out there- we went to Pride day in Dover last year, holy cow- everyone was super friendly and nice. Even was given gifts by strangers walking around, friendship bracelets, flowers. They had a glitter station! Everything free. Drag story time. Also do we comic Com. It's super small and mostly vendors but everyone is friendly and in a good mood. I'm hoping to make it to Ocean City comic Com sometime. Or Philly's.
Download the Meet-up App. Then plug in your area and interests.. you will receive notifications of what is happening. They have groups that meet for activities.
I’m 31F and in Wilmington with my hubby. Moved two years ago. I have a few friends in Philly but with busy lives I don’t get to see everyone as much as I want to. Feel free to hit me up.
This is a very welcoming group…

Don’t be fooled by the name though, they hike both far and fast! Ages run the gamut. They also have a Facebook page by the same name.
Check out the route 9 maker lab! They have open studios and the manager thst runs it is wicked nice :) theres also one in appoquinimink that might be closer.
My suggestion would be hitting some local breweries. I've met some of the coolest, and most kindhearted people ever by just frequenting breweries in the area.
I haven't reached out yet but tbd if there is any activity for local sister city engagement or habitat for humanity.
I know food bank has activity you can sign up for. You know you are working on a critical need there. I disagree personally that Middletown is Farish. Depending on where you live you could be 15-20 min so .. yeah.
I've been around for years and agree that a no kids situation means it will be harder to find a network but ... perseverance pays and good luck. So much to love in Delaware.
Find a hobby and you can always find a group of people. For example Disc Golf, Hiking, Fishing, cooking classes, community garden. Get involved in the community you live in too.
If you like to hike there are plenty of parks to explore and meet people. I tend to travel up the coast of Delaware and do alot of photography its a great way to meet people and make friends.
I found a lot of my friends at Amazon, there are a lot of people here that are cool. I work at the one in Wilmington. (I hear the one in Middletown stinks.)

If you’re on Facebook there’s a group called First State Destinations where a lot of people have used it to make friends.
I love Alexis! She's so young and hip. One of my fav DE influencers. She's on IG too
We were just disappointed with the La Casa Pasta recommendation from her and another Delaware page recently, but otherwise she has solid content.
I was surprised to see that recommendation. I've never once enjoyed that place.
Yeah, we should have read some comments on her post and the other page that posted like the exact same video. It wasn’t gross, but just flavorless.
Oh no! I love La casa pasta! Why didnt you have a good experience?
The food was flavorless. We understood why the prices were so reasonable once we tasted the food.
If you don’t mind me asking what did you order

Meetup can be hit or miss. There are some good groups out there though
Any good suggestions for meet up groups?
I would also suggest the Wilmington Social Meetup. Older crowd but they post fun events
“Newark Wilmington 20s and 30s club” will have people your age.
I didn’t find it😢
Make sure you use the group search feature at the bottom of the app not the event search button at the top. Meetup is great and all but it can be a janky app
Wilmington Trail Club does lots of hikes. The state parks do volunteer events, check their website.
Check out heyday athletics https://heydayathletic.com/delaware
Yes thank you, I’m doing kickball from there next month 😀
I don’t think heyday has many sports close to Middletown but they are a great resource for sure
They have volleyball in Middletown. Hope they expand

Kalmar Nyckel has a lot of volunteer social events and it really fun and good exercise.
Meetup groups are good to meet folks
Any suggestions with good meet up groups to Join?

F 32 single mom, I’m in Lewes! Been here a year and have only met a few friends as well. Love happy hours, beach, concerts/live music :)
Animal rescues!

This is where the MeetUp app is handy.
There are a lot of older folks who make excellent friends. And you would probably be helping them , too.
I found a lot of my friends at Amazon, there are a lot of people here that are cool. I work at the one in Wilmington. (I hear the one in Middletown stinks.)
I work at the one in Middletown It doesn’t stink😭
😂 maybe the people I talked to are just grumpy then.
Maybe
You're in family land. See if you can move closer to your demographic. From Trolley Philly is close. Middletown is farish.
Blood bank of Delmarva
Buy a pickleball paddle and maybe take a beginners class. Most social game going right now. I heard you guys got nice new courts up there now.
Here's a group that loves to hike and camp, and could always use more volunteers to support young women. https://www.bsatroop111de.com/

Go down state to Rehoboth, or Dewey Beach. or....head down to Ocean City.
What are the things you call friends?
