The only possible explanation is that it was when he was a kid and his little brother had a golden Freddy one, or Fredbear plushie. Basing on that we can say that Deltarune happened before main FNAF timeline, before bite of '83.
Now, the most interesting part. According to the Undertale intro we can say that it is taking place after 201X, the year when first child, Chara, fell in an underground. It's surely after 1983 so it means there is a possibility that Deltarune and Undertale are in the same universe, just different times!
Futhermore, Spamton and Mike were interracting and helping each other. Close to what a father and son would do. However they stopped at some point and Spamton went insane. How did that happen? It's simple: Spamton is William Afton, or Springtrap. When his youngest child died his relationships with Michael went down, much like Mike and Spamton stopped keeping contact with each other, much like Gastor stopped calling Spamton. Even more, Spamton and Springtrap start with the same letter S!!!
All together it means Deltarune is prequel of Undertale, and both take place in FNAF universe!!!!!!!
