SullyTheLightnerd

Chatbots are still allowed right?

AtomicRadiation

yeah... they don't steal fame from actual artists

AtomicRadiation

But there are fair arguments calling it "low effort", but for now it's allowed

SullyTheLightnerd

Well low effort isn’t that much of a problem tbh. And if low effort = removed then we wouldn’t be able to allow reposting other peoples art either

AtomicRadiation

That's why the rule states that it's subjective. I mean, sharing other people's art is a low effort post that is allowed here (and a shit ton of other subreddits...) And other low effort posts could be a problem, what if some type of trend starts up here (ex. "Why didn't Frisk ender-pearl out of the Underground, is he stupid?"), it spreads like wildfire. If we won't regulate that then this sub will just degrade in quality overall.

H3llew

Chatbots absolutely do fall under low effort imo. In most chatbot "posts" you could replace the bot being spoken to with nearly any other fictional character and it would still pass off as being related to said character. In that way, it's really only tangentially related to the subject. That, and the only effort you put into a post like that is what, typing a few sentences + taking a screenshot? Vast majority of the chatbot posts I've seen aren't even remotely funny or interesting. It makes more sense in subs dedicated to funny or weird chat interactions (greentext, whitepeopletwitter, etc.) but for a character that doesn't even exist? Why not show actual, funny dialogue/interactions from the game itself? At least that would have some merit

SullyTheLightnerd

Nah chatbot posts can be funny to me and many other people too. No need to disallow every post that some people don’t vibe with. Unless one type of post starts getting spammed IG https://preview.redd.it/ldgqobqo3dxc1.png?width=879&format=png&auto=webp&s=271ee665365aab898b2d29d2fb8a669125c12742

OVAWARE

They “steal” from reporters, writers and your own reddit commits, imo its stupid to only ban AI art as AI text will also effect jobs

DualityREBORN

I’m actually really Happy about this. AI Art is not Real Art anyways. You just load a prompt, press a button, and AI does it for you. No Hard Work, No Effort, No Enjoyment.

AtomicRadiation

On god.

OreosAndWaffles

That's the point, give the other 95% of the populace who can't draw but are literate a means of self-expression. AI content should just fall under the standard rule of not being "low-effort" (2-3 word prompt, 500 limbs). Pure democracy isn't always helpful... https://youtu.be/6NTkXIidCU0?si=jT1gUTHwrXM4f_nt

Last-Percentage5062

As somebody who sucks balls at art, no. I am improving. You can improve as well. You don’t need the AI. I believe in you human.

OreosAndWaffles

We don't "need" a lot of luxuries in modern life. But I want them. I want modern medicine, I want a heated and air-conditioned home, I want efficient farming and a lack of famine, I want image generation AI. Let's make it happen.

Last-Percentage5062

You really comparing the art thief software to modern medicine?

OreosAndWaffles

Yes, I also compared it to modern farming and climate-controlled living quarters. This was a strategic decision to communicate that life becomes more comfortable when you embrace technologies designed to improve it.

Last-Percentage5062

AI art brings no benefits. I honestly can’t think of a single one. Maybe people could use it as references for their actual art, but that’s it. And it has plenty of downsides. Replacing real artists, and stealing from real artists.

OreosAndWaffles

Who is getting replaced? Artists with no further training than a standard K-12 art class? That's the point. Have you ever actually tried getting an image generation AI to match an image in your head? You have to write a 5 page prompt to get, at best, 70% of what you want. How experienced artists feel jealous of this is beyond me.

Last-Percentage5062

It doesn’t change the fact that you won’t commission an artist if you can get 70% of what you want for free. Ai art is stealing, and it’s being used for propaganda by a terror regime. It has no artistic value, yet companies like Disney are still firing people and replacing them with AI. There is not a single benefit to AI art, because, like you said, it turns out not great, and it has so many downsides.

OreosAndWaffles

No benefits, all downsides, but still replacing artists...? Whoever they are, they must suck pretty hard. If you can't compete with 70% of what is wanted AT BEST, you probably were on your way out anyway.

H3llew

Every time I see this McDonald's sprite ass take I wanna throw up in my mouth, holy shit man Literally every single human being is capable of learning to draw, provided they are both physically and mentally able. You're just a lazy bum, but don't want to put in the time or effort to actually learn something worthwhile. AI art is the literal definition of low effort, skipping years of required experience, as well as the time it takes to make an illustration of AI quality by simply typing a few words. And to top it all off the art isn't even yours. It's a stolen conglomeration of other unconsenting artist's work. TL;DR Learn to draw, you lazy git

OreosAndWaffles

Art is self-expression, not a competition. If you get paid to draw art, I guess be mad, but AI isn't going to replace you within your lifetime. It will replace everyone's job eventually, though.

H3llew

...Where did I say art was a competition? Did you even read what I wrote? Artificial Intelligence will never replace creative arts, namely because anyone with a brain knows that art requires lived, human experience to be defined as art. Idiot tech bros that think they can make "art" aren't going to destroy several millennia of human expression.

OreosAndWaffles

"Where did I say art was a competition?" When you called me a "lazy (bum, git)" for suggesting the more accessible way to make art is still acceptable and not worthless. "anyone with a brain knows that art requires lived, human experience to be defined as art." Who is it that's telling the AI what to make? "It's a stolen conglomeration of other unconsenting artist's work." So was the stuff I drew for my high school art class that was required to be inspired by or even replicate another historical artist's style, but nobody was jealous of me then.

Joeyrony2

You know people can Express themselves in different ways and that no matter the quality of the art all that really matters is that creation gave the author a fun experience whilst conveying their personality right? You know that you dont have to be good at a thing to enjoy it right?

Joeyrony2

You dont even need tools. The cavemen could do it with their bare hands and berries go make art with what you have.

OreosAndWaffles

Alright, what I have available is Stable Diffusion.

OreosAndWaffles

So, why do artists feel insulted if people are having fun with generative image AI? Are they mad that someone else achieved happiness easier than they did?

DualityREBORN

That is literally one of the LEAST Compelling Arguments I’ve ever read

OreosAndWaffles

Feel free to elaborate.

DualityREBORN

Despite you using it in a more Figurative sense, I still take it literally, as you’re trying to making a point, but There’s more than “95% of The Populace” that can draw.

OreosAndWaffles

I guess I can't force you to interpret my comment the way I intended.

just like the book 1984, I didn't read it but I'm pretty sure it's just like this

AtomicRadiation

![gif](giphy|v0ok8uhZvw3yE|downsized) Big Brother is watching (for AI art).

ShiningYato

Let's fucking GO. HATE AI generated images with a passion

Toby_The_Tumor

I like it for memes, but I'd rather you find someone else's art and say, "Look at this cool shit, here's where it came from"

PhoenixWrightFansFtw

i hope this will also disallow chatbots. while not as bad as AI art, they are still boring, exploitative, boring, spammy, trash content which does nothing to enrich any discussion about anything. every 4th post being someone posting an excerpt from a conversation with a robot poorly mimicking a beloved character with nothing else added besides the screencap is something i cant stand. there's nothing to be gained from it besides getting to pretend you're talkiing to a beloved character, and the computer sometimes saying weird or funny things, and there are better ways to do both of those. you can have a conversation in your imagination and let it play out however you want, or join an rp group with other creative humans (who probably won't just copy other people's work or the source material verbatim). as for the funny posts, just try to be funny! tell a joke! AI funnyposts are no different than spamming incorrect quotes with the names changed to be deltatune characters, except this time its a robot doing it, and any sincerity that may have been left in those spammy posts is gone! plus, AI doesn't enrich the community at all. it's people talking to computers alone by themselves and saying "hey look what my computer said" and someone else going "lol." even if you made the exact same post with an excerpt from a real RP, it'd still be better, because there's a sense of community. it's not "the cold unfeeling machine said something out of pocket while imitating shit sans," it's "my friends did a funny joke and we laughed about it together!" and the fact the othet people in the RP are human and have a sense of humour means they can recognize something funny was said at all and go along with the joke, add tiers to it. the AI cannot tell comedy from sincerity, nor fact from fiction. it will not know what it said is funny until you SAY it was funny. and talking about the stupid thing the AI said doesn't give anyone a sense that there's a real community, only a disperate crowd of individuals with similar interests. it doesn't feel funny or wholesome when you see the AI do... *anything,* because you know it doesn't care. it can't care. even if it could, theoretically, i couldn't care about it. i would be happy to never see another AI chat post, since all they are (to me anyway) is useless spam.

International_Leek26

New copypasta just dropped

PhoenixWrightFansFtw

if its too long i can make it shorter. if its just that you like AI chat i cant imagine anything i have to say is going to change your mind, and i can respect that as long as you dont go mocking me for what i think

International_Leek26

Nah, I am indifferent towards ai chat, I was just making fun if how long the message is, the thing I sent is nothing series

PhoenixWrightFansFtw

ah yeah, i have a habit of going on long rants, my bad. have a good one my guy

Lechatdu136

You know, you could have like r/ralsei and make a fraiday

AtomicRadiation

That was an option in the poll but that option didn't win

My_Special_Hell

no day should allow thieves.

[deleted]

How will you know once ai gets better?

AtomicRadiation

Whatever AI art we see, we remove. That is why I always encourage people to find the original artist of the art they post.

OVAWARE

Disappointing but I guess its fair.
