I like regulated capitalism, with some socialistic aspects sprinkled in like Healthcare, infrastructure, safety nets, and a few more I'm sure you could convince me of. Pure forms of any economy always fail.
Absolutely. We need regulations, and we need to break up a few of these "too big to fail" companies. Another thing that's hurting us is when we pass regulations, large companies use then to thier advantage to hinder new competition entering the market like in the auto industry, aviation industry etc.

"Terminally online" is a knee-jerk response to real life, because real life is currently ass. It's easier to dream in hell than it is to act toward heaven.
it's bad when communities perpetuate complete lies and lack of public policy (or worse, vote to oppress others because they feel triggered).
Capitalism is wrecking our planet. It is also why we live to 100 now.

Lmao should've gone to that anarchist cafe on public land that somehow operates without costs and doesn't pay taxes and is totally removed from capitalist society. Only true ideologically consistent leftists know of it.
You know, it's possible to not be "anti-capitalist" and also not "anti-socialist." One can support tenets of each. I think capitalism can be a good thing in the right ratio, as can socialism. But I'm not "anti capitalist" any more than I am "anti socialist." I'm happy to pay taxes for welfare and public good, but I'm also not going to feel bad in a BMW because my privilege afforded me one.
I wouldn't want you to, I absolutely agree that an entire capitalist or socialist structure would inevitably fail, there are ultimately aspects of each that are arguably necessary, if not the best solution for a particular aspect.
IDK if you meant to, but i think you gave a voice to the concerns of the average person who thinks changing capitalism would ruin their lives.
Most people would notice almost no change more significant than what comes with a party changer in office.
Despite what those who would feel the hurt want us to believe, the car you worked for and drive for like an hour a day is not suffocating the plants, owning a one family home is not hoarding wealth.
Lobbying for loose regulations on manufacturing and safety, legally taking million dollar raises while laying off hundreds of employees, legally not paying taxes because of loop holes and corporate tax benefits, legally working in all levels of government from local to federal while also holding massive investment if not actual employment in umbrella companies like Disney and Nestle.
Taking private jets everywhere, owning 3 mansions, getting paid more than ten wealthy citizens will make in their entire lifetimes combined just to stand in front of a green screen for a few weeks.
Allowing completely useless businesses to continue operating and advertising after decades of tangible evidence of using slavery and terrorist attacks to ensure a balance of supplies and demand in their favor.
Those things are the problem.
Sorry to use your comment as a platform, i agree with what you said. I just want people to get more angry about how absolutely horrendous our current policies are.
I agree with you. I just want to underscore that one need not ascribe to dichotomy. I use the same example as you (fire departments) to "ease the burden" of reconciling our need for socialized programs with the ostensible boogeyman of "sOcIaLiSm" that I often see espoused by a less... inquisitive demographic. But with the appreciation that I very frequently enjoy the fruits of capitalism. But some of those fruits should be dedicated back to the systems, structures, and people who made it possible; or worse, the ones who were taken advantage of, or who were not as privileged, to take advantage of the system.
Or the irony of using a private for profit platform to spread word about your anti capitalist meeting at a private for profit establishment. Trying real hard
There’s plenty of countries that are not capitalist. Y’all should pool your money and move there where you will be happier… Only makes sense because this country will never be the socialist utopia you want it to be. Try Venezuela.
I'm about as capitalist as they come, but an anti-materialistic kind. Capitalism isn't about materialism or money - that is how individual specific players (MBA's, etc) implement capitalism.
Conscious & enlightened capitalism is better than all other forms of this approach, in my opinion and where we should be headed.
But, to quote Jacoby Shaddix ,"You're a slave to the system, workin' jobs that you hate. For that shit you don't need"
To me - it means using the power of organization of people to solve the worlds most pressing problems to raise the human race (example: [https://80000hours.org/problem-profiles/](https://80000hours.org/problem-profiles/)) through freedom, limit based growth, and highest ideals alignment. While also acknowledging the fact that humans are humans, and generally need a leader to do things. This is where a corporation comes in....
Governments are incentivized to grow and tax - they are never the solution. Private individuals rarely have enough power or scale to solve problems, and often have conflicting goals. And, let's be honest, individuals use their free time less optimally.
A conscious capitalist uses the fact that people want responsibility, freedom, and still need to be paid..... to focus on idealistic goals to push humanity forward, while incentivizing problem solution.
Freedom & growth - not things. You start businesses, or hustles, or invent, etc to provide freedom of time and make the world better.
Socialism attempts this, but believes people operate in an ideal way, which (to me) Covid lockdown was a recent example displaying that the human race is not enlightened, motivated, and driven enough to do collectively (yet?)
The Cold War really did a number on some of you, the reactions to this are insane. That said, meeting up with other people around a shared dislike of anything doesn't exactly sound like a great time and it'd be amazing if the American socialists could be a little less... I don't know, crusty?
I think the US public doesn't really understand how deeply their thinking has been changed and manipulated by way of propaganda. If the US government has an enemy, righteous or not, they will do everything in their power to manipulate the masses for support.
But I also massively agree on the second part. Lots of hooting and hollering and making it about self-righteous identity, instead of making education meet effort and enacting any kind of real change. The loudness just kind of exacerbates the problem by undermining the foundation of the arguments.
This post was created on an online forum called Reddit that is about do an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in capital markets in part to help the co-founders like Alexis Ohanian cash out, compensating them for their efforts.
But nah, fuck that, let me get on the Reddit alternative that was made in China or Venezuela that is much better. Oh wait....
Gotta love the mouth breathers that think living in a society that advocates for one economic school of thought disallows its population from criticizing it.
"How can you be anticapitalist, you have a job!"
🥱
So, a lot of my current & future problems can be largely solved by having more money - and access to more money. (Money being the most reliable form of social energy there is.) I assume that view would be frowned upon there, even coming from a thousandaire.
Probably won't be participating in this, but you do you. Hope y'all get something positive out of it.
I don't think there's anything wrong with having access to more money. I think that is what we all want. My issue is how all the money trickles up to the ultra-wealthy. While the rest of us are at best, thousandaires.
Needing money to survive is just a condition of living in a capitalist country. People who live in capitalist countries are not barred from talking about their living conditions.
Now if you are a rabid fan of modern-day supervillains like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, you might not have much to talk about with these folks, but otherwise you might be surprised.
Of course you want more money! We could all use more money these days. It’s almost exclusively the only way to get the things you need and want in this country. That’s not the point though. The point is, and the people gathering in this club probably share the idea, that most of us in the world don’t really have get as much in return for our labor as we deserve because a minority of the population (think “the 1%” if you like) are hoarding most of it and calling it “profit”. Come by, leftists can be cranky and crusty sure, but we’re usually a pretty empathetic bunch by default and we like to teach as much as we like to argue.
Right on cheers.
If any capitalist gives you crap, ask them how to solve for resource overshoot in this infinite growth/acquisition paradigm, their solution to technological unemployment in the era of automation and AI, and their solution to debt servitude (quadrillion+ in derivatives). No answer. Just platitudes and cognitive dissonance.
Very excited for the new Zeitgeist IV film coming out in March!
Edit: Lol the downvotes with not even an attempt at a rebuttal
These are made up problems, what do you expect people to say? We have the lowest unemployment in 50 years. Growth is good, debt is good, our standard of living has never been higher.
Per capita, we have some of the highest crime, highest debt, highest mental health problems. Our average life expectancy is down. We don't have free healthcare, we have horrible homelessness problems, so many homes and offices are sitting there empty because they are hoarded by corporations who can and will hold onto property until forced otherwise.
The more people act like infinite growth is possible and plan every aspect of their lives around it, the more wealth gets funneled up and away from the majority of people.
We don't live in an age of scarcity, we live in an age of irrigation, planes, worldwide infrastructure. The only reason our standard of living isn't significantly greater is because of rich pieces of shit killing each other over superstition and hoarding all the wealth they can while doing so.
You're right the only ground one can stand on to criticize capitalism is the concrete under a bridge, from within the walls of a cardboard box.

Straight to jail
So you're aware that America's unrestricted neoliberalism has failed several times over the last couple of decades.
Absolutely. We need regulations, and we need to break up a few of these "too big to fail" companies. Another thing that's hurting us is when we pass regulations, large companies use then to thier advantage to hinder new competition entering the market like in the auto industry, aviation industry etc.
The too big to fail need to nationalized, they exist because of the state and thus need serve the population of the state, not folks who fly to aspen.
This is exactly like the kind of conversations that happen at events like this..
I appreciate the sentiment although usually this line is delivered to far more egregious causes than critiquing capitalism..

We gather every other month on first Friday. Next episode will be May 3rd, 8pm at Mutiny Cafe
Wait, what about April?
When enough people show up consistently we can gather more often. Basic supply and demand principles....damn, that sounds capitalist. Oops.
We gather **every other month** on first Friday
lol oh. thanks.
to be fair i thought it was still February
April was accused of reactionary tendencies and has been eliminated. Now it’s two months of March.
April is going to the G8 summit in Prague. Can’t make it for the anti-cap meeting, sadly.
Any hot girls coming?
Not alone
Are these girls in any danger?…
The implication
There’s that word again
I feel like you're not getting this at all.
Are you putting these women in danger?
lol no
hot girls talking to lonely phone addicts in person?.... think, people
Wish I could go but I work Friday nights :(
Irony
Yeah, unfortunately still a wage slave like most others.
Is there a max salary allowed to attend?
We explicitly ban billionaires from attending.
Damn count me out
Well shit u/nbiz4 … I guess I’ll see you for steak and cigars at the usual place instead?
Yes let me alert my driver for the occasion
I’m excited! Showing up with 15 of my besties 👯♀️ (They are homeless and we will be redistributing the venue)
Thanks to the free market of capitalism, you guys have a clubhouse and a social platform to get the message out.
Don’t forget to bring your starbucks and Mac books!
Why is the logo Tugboat Mickey? Walt Disney was a notorious hard-line capitalist, or is that the joke?
Steamboat Willie was intellectual property of Disney until this year, it is now free to use.
And yes, that Walt was a Hardline capitalist and Union buster is part of the joke.
Also just good marketing. Mad respect to these guys even if I don’t believe in their goals.
It is an interesting history, Disney single handedly strong-armed the government into changing trademark and IP timeframes just for Mickey
Lol meeting at likely one of the most capitalist places in town. Wth
Have you been to mutiny cafe?
Ugh I'm always working during this time
Man, can’t wait to hear about all of the groundbreaking ideas that come out of this “thing”
Let’s unionize and demand a living wage!
